IMPROVING STUDENTS’ LISTENING SKILLS THROUGH ZACH SANG SHOW PODCAST: (A pre-experimental study at MTS Al-Jawami)

    No full text
Listening skills play a crucial role in language acquisition, yet many students lack an understanding of the vocabulary and grammar used in listening contexts. Therefore, researchers use podcasts to provide alternative learning and improve students’ listening skills. The research aimed to evaluate students’ listening skills before and after using the Zach Sang Show podcast and examine any significant improvements resulting from its use as a learning tool. The study employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design, collecting data from a single group using pre-tests and post-tests. Multiple- choice and true-false questions were used to assess students’ listening skills. The data was collected using a convenience sampling technique, with 18 junior high school students in the eighth grade as the sample. Meanwhile, the statistical data computation revealed a significant increase in the mean score. The pre-test results revealed a highest score of 85 and a lowest score of 35, with a mean score of 55.56, indicating that students faced difficulties and challenges in listening. In contrast, the post-test results showed a highest score of 95 and a lowest score of 65, with a mean score of 79.17, demonstrating a significant improvement in listening skills after using the Zach Sang Show podcast. As a result, the null hypothesis was rejected, and the alternative hypothesis was accepted. Furthermore, the medium-range N-Gain mean score of 0.54 supported this finding, indicating that the research media effectively improved students’ listening abilities. In conclusion, the Zach Sang Show Podcast proved to be a reliable instructional tool for improving listening skills

Inter-religious marriage between Fragrance Law and Maqasid al-Shari’ah

    No full text
Surah Al-Māidah (5:5) permits Muslim men to marry women from among the People of the Book (Ahl al-Kitāb). However, Article 40 (c) of the Compilation of Islamic Law (Kompilasi Hukum Islam, the Compilation) in Indonesia explicitly prohibits marriage with both polytheist and Ahl al-Kitāb women. In Indonesia’s positive law, interfaith marriage is not explicitly regulated. Law No. 1 of 1974 on Marriage stipulates in Article 2 (1) that a marriage is valid if it is conducted according to the laws of the respective religions and beliefs of the parties involved. Consequently, interfaith marriages are only considered legally valid if one party converts to the religion of the other. This study aims to analyze interfaith marriage from the perspective of Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh al-munākahāt). It employs a qualitative research method with a descriptive-analytical approach through literature review. The findings indicate that the legal rationale (‘illat al-ḥukm) behind the prohibition of interfaith marriage is based on theological and fundamental religious grounds. The stipulations in the Compilation align with the core objectives of Islamic legal theory (maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah), particularly the objectives of safeguarding religion (ḥifẓ al-dīn) and preserving lineage (ḥifẓ al-nasl). Therefore, the transformation of classical Islamic jurisprudence into the Compilation represents an effort to codify and unify Islamic family law within Indonesia’s national legal framework, taking into account the public interest (maṣlaḥah) and the socio-religious context of Indonesian Muslim society. Contribution: This research elucidates the rationale behind the legal prohibitions and demonstrates how the transformation and unification of classical fiqh into Indonesia’s statutory legal framework reflect considerations of public interest and local Muslim societal context. Thus, the study offers valuable insights into the harmonization of religious jurisprudence and state law in a pluralistic society

Synergy of Environment, Diversity, Customer Focus, and Quality for Competitive Advantage

    No full text
This conceptual study investigates how the integration of environment, diversity management, customer focus, and quality contribute to sustainable competitive advantage in contemporary management. Drawing on theories such as contingency theory, resource-based view, stakeholder theory, and total quality management, the research proposes a unified framework capturing the dynamic interaction among these elements. Using a structured literature review and thematic synthesis of international journal articles, books, and institutional sources, the study reveals that an adaptive environment enables strategic responsiveness, diversity enhances innovation, and customer-centric quality initiatives strengthen performance. Schermerhorn’s insights on alignment, inclusion, and systemic quality provide foundational support. The findings demonstrate that firms integrating these factors holistically are better positioned to achieve differentiation, agility, and stakeholder legitimacy. This research contributes theoretically by extending strategic management models with human-centered, quality-oriented constructs, and practically by offering actionable guidance for leaders and policymakers. The framework offers a roadmap for aligning internal capabilities with external demands in an increasingly complex and globalized business environment

From Accessibility to Participation: The Strategy of the General Elections Commission (KPU) in Enhancing the Political Engagement of Persons with Disabilities in the 2024 Local Election in East Jakarta, Indonesia

    No full text
This study aims to analyze the strategies implemented by the General Election Commission (Komisi Pemilihan Umum-KPU) of East Jakarta in enhancing the political participation of persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the 2024 regional elections. This research addresses the persistent challenges faced by PWDs in accessing their political rights, particularly the low voter turnout despite a significant increase in their inclusion within the Permanent Voter List (Daftar Pemilih Tetap-DPT). Employing a qualitative approach with an explanatory case study design, the data were collected through in-depth interviews, direct observations, and document analysis involving KPU officials, disability organizations, and community stakeholders. The findings reveal that although the number of registered disabled voters in East Jakarta rose from 1,568 in 2017 to 17,502 in 2024, only 24% of them exercised their voting rights. Key obstacles include limited access to polling stations, insufficient voter education, and a lack of family and social support. However, several strategic innovations were found to be impactful, such as inclusive voter simulations, collaboration with disability organizations (e.g., PPUAD), social media-based outreach, and field-based data validation. The study contributes to electoral studies by highlighting the importance of dual strategies—offensive (proactive outreach and education) and defensive (protection and facilitation measures)—to empower marginalized voters. Moreover, the integration of digital platforms and community engagement models emerges as a key element for enhancing inclusive democratic participation. Compared to prior studies that primarily emphasized accessibility, this research brings an original focus on institutional collaboration, adaptive strategies, and the sociopolitical empowerment of PWDs within urban election systems. The findings underscore the need for continuous policy innovation and interagency cooperation to ensure meaningful participation of all citizens in democratic processes

    No full text
Rapid advances in digital technology have led to a significant increase in the intensity of online gaming among children, particularly at the elementary school level. This study aims to examine the psychological impact of online gaming addiction on children in Sidorame Timur Village, Medan Perjuangan District, North Sumatra Province, identify the contributing factors, and explore the response patterns exhibited by parents. This study employs a qualitative approach with a case study design, involving in-depth interviews and direct observations of eight children aged 11–12 years who exhibit symptoms of online game addiction, along with their parents. Data analysis was conducted using a thematic approach. Findings indicate that online game addiction has negative effects on children\u27s psychological well-being, such as learning concentration disorders, anxiety, sleep dysfunction, and reduced social interaction. Key factors contributing to addiction include poor communication between parents and children, the diversity of evolving game types, and peer social pressure. In response to this situation, some parents have begun to adopt open communication patterns, establish more structured schedules, conduct active supervision, and encourage their children to participate in social and physical activities. This study emphasizes the importance of strengthening digital parenting capacity at the family level as a preventive measure against online game addiction. These findings provide practical contributions to the development of digital literacy-based education policies and community-based intervention programs. The uniqueness of this study lies in its in-depth exploration of addictive behavior and parenting strategies in a local context, offering contextual insights into the study of child psychology and education in the digital age

Dynamic Governance in Accelerating Stunting Reduction: A Study on Local Policy Implementation and the Use of Digital Platforms in Sumedang Regency, West Java

    No full text
This study aims to analyze the role of dynamic governance in accelerating stunting reduction in Sumedang Regency, West Java, with a focus on the mechanisms of sensing, seizing, and transforming as well as the orchestration of multi-actor collaboration. This research is important because stunting remains a critical challenge for Indonesia in achieving the 14% target by 2024, while existing studies are mostly dominated by medical and nutritional perspectives rather than governance aspects. The study employed a qualitative research approach with a case study design, in which data were collected through in-depth interviews, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), participatory observation, and document analysis. The findings reveal that Sumedang possesses strong dynamic governance capabilities: (1) sensing through data-driven policies utilizing Riskesdas and e-PPGBM, (2) seizing through adaptive regulations and cross-sectoral coordination with Regent Regulation No. 82/2018 and the implementation of the Eight Convergence Actions, and (3) transforming through institutional innovation with the SIMPATI platform and the establishment of a permanent stunting task force. These capabilities are strengthened by the collaborative roles of local government, NGOs, village administrations, health cadres, and the private sector. The integration of digital governance and participatory mechanisms has enabled Sumedang to successfully reduce stunting prevalence from 32.2% in 2019 to 27.6% in 2022, and further to 7.89% in 2023. The implications of this study affirm that dynamic governance can serve as a replicable model for other regions to overcome bureaucratic rigidity, strengthen cross-sectoral partnerships, and enhance evidence-based decision-making in public health policy. The originality of this research lies in positioning stunting reduction not merely as a health intervention but as an innovation in adaptive governance, thereby filling the gap in the literature that rarely discusses the intersection of governance, technology, and community participation in public health policy

    No full text
This study aims to examine the use of code switching and code mixing in Instagram content by Sehand Azhar, especially in the form of video reels, to understand its function and meaning in digital communication. The method used is a descriptive qualitative case study with the technique of simak libat cakap. Data were taken from 15 video reels watched by more than 20,000 people, and analyzed using a summative approach to identify elements of code-switching and code-mixing. The results show that the use of code-switching and code-mixing in Azhar\u27s content enriches expression and strengthens social identity between speakers, with some Arabic elements that are difficult to translate into Indonesian, thus adding aesthetic and functional value in the pesantren context. The analysis also reveals that this phenomenon is supported by the multilingual ability of the speakers and the appeal of Arabic among the audience, most of whom have a pesantren background. The implications of this study show that code-switching and code-mixing in social media not only strengthen social relations, but also contribute to the preservation of pesantren language and culture, and open up opportunities for further research on the impact of multilingualism in digital communication.

    No full text
This study aims to analyze local economic development strategies through human resource empowerment in the MSME sector in Medan City. The methodology of this research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, collecting data from primary sources by distributing questionnaires to respondents using the pentahelix collaboration model (ABCGM), comprising academics, businesspeople, communities, government, and media. Analysis technique by analyzing the integration of SOAR matrix strategies (Strength, Opportunity, Aspiration, and Result). The results of the analysis show that the MSME development strategy produces four strategies, namely: (1) comprehensive training and mentoring programs for human capital formation, (2) development of the MSME digital ecosystem towards a knowledge-based economy, (3) strengthening the PentaHelix collaboration (ABCGM) as a governance innovation, and (4) developing industrial clusters based on local potential for regional competitive advantage. The study\u27s findings have profound implications for the development of MSME policy at local, regional, and national governance levels. The validated strategic framework provides compelling evidence in support of integrated policy approaches that deliberately transcend traditional sectoral boundaries and administrative silos, arguing for comprehensive policy coordination mechanisms that address MSME development as a complex, interconnected challenge rather than a series of discrete problems. The research highlights the critical importance of developing an institutional framework, suggesting that policy attention should prioritize governance structures and coordination mechanisms over narrowly focused program-specific interventions that fail to address systemic constraints on MSME growth and competitiveness
