    Karinding: kearifan lokal budaya Jawa Barat sebagai pengendali hama pada tanaman padi

    The green revolution promoted synthetic pesticide use in agriculture, but this practice negatively affects the environment and health. Karinding, a traditional musical instrument from West Java, is believed to offer an eco-friendly alternative for repelling pests in rice cultivation. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of karinding as a pest control method. A non-factorial randomized block design was used with four treatments: control, manual karinding, recorded karinding, and synthetic pesticide. Each treatment involved 10 rice clumps, repeated four times, with 10-m spacing to minimize bias. Parameters observed included pest attack intensity, insect diversity, soil pH, and microorganism population. Results showed no significant difference in pest attacks between weeks 4–12, except in week 7 where synthetic pesticides had the lowest intensity (13.15%). Insect diversity was moderate across treatments, highest in the control (H’=2.083) and lowest in the pesticide treatment (H’=1.595), with no dominant species (C<0.5). The synthetic pesticide reduced overall insect populations, although some species remained. Soil pH in karinding treatments ranged from 5.7–5.8, with higher microorganism populations than in the pesticide treatment. The highest number of panicles per hill was in the control (40.72), and the lowest in the pesticide treatment (22.27), while panicle length and dry grain weight were not significantly different. Although less effective than synthetic pesticides in suppressing pests, karinding helps preserve insect diversity and soil health, making it a promising environmentally friendly pest control alternative.   ABSTRAK Revolusi hijau mendorong penggunaan pestisida sintetik dalam pertanian, namun penggunaannya berdampak negatif bagi lingkungan dan kesehatan. Karinding, alat musik tradisional Jawa Barat, diyakini sebagai alternatif ramah lingkungan untuk mengusir hama pada tanaman padi. Penelitian ini bertujuan menguji efektivitas alat musik karinding sebagai alat untuk mengendalikan hama pada padi. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimental yang menggunakan rancangan acak kelompok non-faktorial dengan empat perlakuan: kontrol, karinding manual, karinding rekaman, dan pestisida sintetik. Setiap perlakuan terdiri atas 10 rumpun padi dan diulang sebanyak empat kali. Untuk mengurangi bias, jarak antar perlakuan dibuat sejauh 10 m. Parameter yang diamati meliputi intensitas serangan hama, keanekaragaman serangga, serta kondisi tanah (pH dan populasi mikroorganisme). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan intensitas serangan hama pada 4-12 minggu setelah tanam tidak berbeda signifikan, kecuali pada minggu ke-7, di mana pestisida sintetik memberikan intensitas serangan terendah (13,15%). Keanekaragaman serangga tergolong sedang dengan nilai terendah pada perlakuan pestisida sintetik (H’=1,595) dan tertinggi pada kontrol (H’=2,083), tanpa serangga dominan (C<0,5). Populasi serangga pada perlakuan pestisida sintetik lebih sedikit dibandingkan perlakuan lain, kecuali beberapa spesies tertentu. Karinding memperbaiki kondisi tanah dengan pH 5,7-5,8 dan populasi mikroorganisme lebih tinggi dibanding pestisida sintetik. Hasil tanaman menunjukkan jumlah malai per rumpun tertinggi pada kontrol (40,72) dan terendah pada pestisida sintetik (22,27). Panjang malai dan bobot gabah kering tidak berbeda signifikan antar perlakuan. Kesimpulannya, penggunaan karinding tidak efektif mengendalikan hama seperti pestisida sintetik, namun dapat menjaga keanekaragaman serangga dan kesehatan tanah sehingga berpotensi menjadi metode pengendalian ramah lingkungan.   Kata kunci: Hama padi; intensitas serangan; karinding; pengendalian ramah lingkungan; pertanian berkelanjuta

    Despite the fact that micronutrients are crucial for the growth, metabolism, and crop yield of plants, they are required in relatively small proportions. The recent advancements in agriculture have resulted in the development of biostimulant products that are abundant in micronutrients which is advantageous. The objective of this investigation was to evaluate the potential of micronutrient-enriched biostimulants (MB) to enhance the quality characteristics of chili fruits. This study was conducted at Jatinangor, West Java. The experimental plots were laid out in a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with seven treatments and repeated four times, so the total number of treatments was 28 units. The treatments consist of farmer practice and doses of 0.75; 1.0; 1.5; 2.0; 2.5 and 3.0 L ha-1 MB. The results of this experiment indicated that the treatments with doses of 2.0–3.0 L ha-1 were consistently preferable in terms of fruit quality, yield, and growth. Plants that were more productive, capable of grading fruit, and had a slightly extended shelf life after harvest were the final result of the biostimulant product, which contained micronutrients. The farmer\u27s practice consistently failed to meet the standards of all the treated sites. The combination of biostimulants and micronutrients significantly enhanced the physiological and reproductive functions of chilies. ABSTRAK Mikronutrien, meskipun dibutuhkan dalam jumlah yang kecil daripada makronutrien, penting untuk perkembangan tanaman, fungsi metabolisme, dan produktivitas tanaman. Perkembangan terkini dalam bidang pertanian telah menghasilkan produk biostimulan yang kaya akan mikronutrien yang sangat penting. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menilai potensi biostimulan yang diperkaya mikronutrien (MB) dalam meningkatkan kualitas buah cabai. Panelitian ini dilakukan di Jatinangor Sumedang, Jawa Barat. Plot percobaan disusun dalam Rancangan Acak kelompok (RAK) dengan tujuh perlakuan dan diulang empat kali, sehingga total perlakuan adalah 28 unit. Perlakuan tersebut terdiri dari metode konvensional; dosis biostimulan yang diperkaya mikronutrien (0,75; 1,0; 1.5; 2,0; 2,5 and 3,0 L ha-1 MB). Hasil percobaan ini menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan dengan dosis 2,0–3,0 L ha-1 adalah yang paling konsisten unggul di seluruh parameter pertumbuhan, hasil dan kualitas buah. Produk biostimulan dengan tambahan mikronutrien membuat tanaman lebih kuat, lebih produktif, lebih baik dalam kualitas buah, dan memperpanjang masa simpan setelah panen. Dibandingkan dengan semua yang diberi perlakuan pupuk mikronutrien dan biostimulan, perlakuan konvensional memberikan respon yang paling kecil. Secara umum, penambahan mikronutrien dan biostimulan secara bersamaan dapat memberikan dampak besar pada peningkatan fungsi fisiologis dan reproduksi tanaman cabai.   Kata kunci: Biostimulan, Cabai, Keberlanjutan, Produktivita

    Enhancing Students’ Critical Thinking Through Problem-Based Learning With Socio-Scientific Issues: A Study On Stoichiometry In Grade X Science

    Understanding stoichiometry remains a significant challenge for many secondary school students, primarily due to traditional instructional approaches that emphasize memorization rather than analytical reasoning. To address this issue, this study examines the effectiveness of a socio-scientific issue (SSI)-based problem-based learning (PBL) model in fostering students’ critical thinking skills in stoichiometry instruction. The research employed a quasi-experimental design with a non-randomized pretest–posttest control group structure. Participants consisted of two grade X classes from SMAN 1 Sipirok, with one class assigned as the experimental group receiving SSI-based PBL instruction and the other as the control group receiving conventional teaching. Data were collected through essay tests designed around Ennis’s twelve critical thinking indicators. The results of an independent samples t-test indicated a statistically significant difference in posttest scores between the two groups (p = 0.027, p &lt; 0.05), demonstrating that the experimental group outperformed the control group in critical thinking. These findings suggest that integrating socio-scientific issues into problem-based learning can effectively enhance students’ reasoning, engagement, and conceptual understanding in chemistry education. The study contributes to the ongoing discourse on innovative pedagogies by highlighting the pedagogical potential of SSI-based PBL for cultivating higher-order thinking skills in science classrooms.The critical thinking skills of high school students in chemistry are still relatively low, one of which is caused by the dominance of the teacher in the learning process, which makes students passive. This study aims to determine the effect of the application of problem-based learning (PBL) based on socio-scientific issues (SSI) on students\u27 critical thinking skills on stoichiometry material. The research was conducted at SMAN 1 Sipirok with a sample of two classes: class X MIA-1 (control class) with 17 male and 18 female students, and class X MIA-2 (experimental class) with 15 male and 20 female students. This study used a quasi-experiment with a non-randomised group pre-test and post-test design. The instrument used was an essay test of 10 questions representing 12 indicators of critical thinking, according to Robert H. Ennis. The results showed a significant increase in students\u27 critical thinking skills after the application of the SSI-based PBL model. The application of the PBL method effectively improves students\u27 critical thinking skills. The results of hypothesis testing using the T-test (Independent Sample t-Test) obtained a sig (2-tailed) value < α, namely 0.027 < 0.05 so that H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected. This shows that there is an effect of the problem-based learning model based on socio-scientific issues on students\u27 critical thinking skills in stoichiometry material

    Chemistry Mobile Learning of Chemical Elements to Foster Education for Sustainable Development

    Students often face difficulties in learning chemical elements due to the large number of concepts that require memorization and limited contextual engagement. At the same time, chemical elements play a vital role in addressing environmental issues, making their understanding essential for advancing Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). This study aimed to develop an Android-based Chemistry Mobile Learning (CML) application in the form of an educational game to promote ESD-oriented chemistry learning. The development followed the ADDIE model (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate). The CML application was validated by six expert reviewers, resulting in Aiken’s V scores of 0.91 and 0.93, indicating a high level of validity. Student feedback showed that 91% rated the learning experience as “Very Good.” The results suggest that the developed CML tool is both feasible and practical for classroom implementation. It enhances student engagement, supports meaningful learning, and fosters sustainability-oriented thinking in chemistry education.Siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam pembelajaran kimia unsur karena banyaknya konsep yang harus dihafal. Selain itu, unsur-unsur kimia juga memegang peranan penting dalam Pendidikan untuk Pembangunan Berkelanjutan (PPB), karena banyaknya konsep kimia yang dapat digunakan untuk memecahkan masalah lingkungan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan pembelajaran kimia mobile (CML) yang disajikan dalam bentuk permainan edukatif berbasis android untuk mendukung Pendidikan untuk Pembangunan Berkelanjutan. Penelitian ini dirancang dengan menggunakan model metode ADDIE (analyze, design, development, implementation, and evaluation). CML divalidasi oleh 6 orang ahli dengan nilai 0,91 dan 0,93 (Nilai Aikens) dengan Kategori Valid. Respon siswa terhadap penggunaan CML adalah positif, dengan 91% siswa memberikan penilaian dalam kategori "Sangat Baik". Media pembelajaran CML dinilai layak dan praktis untuk digunakan di kelas. Media ini secara efektif mendukung pembelajaran kimia yang bermakna dan berkelanjutan, menjadikannya media pembelajaran yang berguna untuk meningkatkan keterlibatan dan prestasi siswa sesuai dengan tujuan ESD

    Community-Based Strategies for Countering Fundamentalism, Radicalism, and Terrorism

    This study examines the role of community structures in preventing the emergence and growth of Fundamentalism, Radicalism, and Terrorism (FRT) using Cherian George’s Assertive Pluralism theory as its conceptual framework. The relevance of this research lies in the increasing challenges to social cohesion in pluralistic settings, including spatial segregation and exclusivist narratives that have the potential to fuel radicalisation. Employing a qualitative approach, the study draws on literature review, in-depth interviews, and field observations, focusing on an interfaith cooperation model developed in Salatiga City, Central Java, by the Salatiga Church Cooperation Agency (BKGS) in partnership with Muslim and Christian community networks. The findings reveal three main points. First, community-based organizations such as BKGS, Banser NU, Forum Hati Beriman, and the Interfaith Young Friends Movement (Gerakan Sobat Muda Lintas Iman) play a central role in fostering trust, solidarity, and mutual respect through interfaith collaboration in religious events, public services, and humanitarian programs. Second, interfaith education initiatives by UIN Salatiga and UKSW—through the integration of Islamology courses, halal studies, and the Kampus Kebangsaan program—strengthen interreligious understanding and engage students as agents of tolerance. Third, challenges remain, including the development of exclusive sharia housing, moral superiority narratives, rejection of interfaith activities, and weak assertiveness among local authorities, all of which can limit interfaith interaction and create fertile ground for radicalism. The study’s implications underscore the importance of synergy among four pillars—grassroots organizations, educational institutions, collaborative public initiatives, and responsive local governance—in community-based pre-conflict prevention.     STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT OPTIMIZATION THROUGH IFE AND EFE SWOT ANALYSIS

    This study aims to optimize the implementation of strategic management at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) 2 Pamekasan through SWOT analysis, enriched with the IFE (Internal Factors Evalaution ) and EFE (External Factors Evaluation) frameworks. Adopting a sequential exploratory mixed-methods approach, qualitative and quantitative data were collected from various key stakeholders to comprehensively identify strategic factors. The results of the internal analysis (IFE) indicate that the madrasah\u27s main strengths lie in its Adiwiyata predicate and unique skills programs, although it faces weaknesses in student and staff learning interest and discipline. From the external side (EFE), the biggest opportunity is the madrasah\u27s position as an Islamic institution with added skills, amidst the threats of intense competition and shifting societal preferences. A synthesis of these findings yields four strategic assumptions: SO (leveraging strengths for opportunities), WO (addressing weaknesses with opportunities), ST (using strengths to face threats), and WT (minimizing weaknesses and avoiding threats). This research concludes that the optimization of strategic management at MAN 2 Pamekasan requires the implementation of concrete actions that are synergistic between internal and external factors, which in turn will enhance the madrasah\u27s competitive advantage and sustainability

    This research, titled EFL Students\u27 Emotional Geography Experience During Learning Reading in Online Classroom: A Qualitative Study at 10th Grade of MA Mathlaul Anwar Pameuntasan Soreang, aims to (1) investigate students\u27 emotions while learning reading in an online class during the pandemic, focusing on physical, moral, and professional geography, and (2) identify the factors influencing students\u27 emotional geography experiences during online reading lessons in the pandemic. This qualitative study was conducted at MA Mathlaul Anwar, involving 10th-grade EFL students. Data were collected through open-ended questionnaires and in-depth interviews, and analysed in three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Findings were categorized into physical, moral, and professional geography. The study found that (1) students face challenges in online learning, including difficulties in understanding the material, limited interaction, and accessibility issues, but they adapt by developing strategies and utilizing resources such as internet data provided by the school, in terms of physical, moral, and professional geography; (2) based on interviews with 6 students, factors influencing emotional geography in online learning were identified, such as difficulties in understanding the material, long sessions causing boredom, poor communication, and internet connectivity issues, while some students appreciated the flexibility of learning at home.

    ISLAMIC JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL EFL TEACHER\u27S EXPERIENCE IN BLENDED LEARNING: A CASE STUDY

    The growth of technology has encouraged educators to incorporate technology into learning, leading to dynamic learning environments, such as blended learning. This research delves into teachers\u27 experiences and challenges in teaching English using blended learning techniques.  Using a qualitative case study method, two English teachers from a junior high school were interviewed about their experiences with blended learning. Results showed that initial apprehensions about blended learning were overcome with school support. Technical readiness and infrastructure are crucial for successful implementation. Blended learning was found to enhance students\u27 motivation, performance, and engagement in English language classrooms, fostering skills like communication and teamwork. Students benefit from the interactive nature of blended learning, combining online elements with face-to-face interactions

    The purpose of this research was to determine students\u27 perceptions of using DeepL Translator to translate academic texts from Indonesian into English. DeepL Translator is an artificial intelligence (AI)-based translation tool that uses neural machine translation (NMT) technology to translate text between various languages. This research involved 2021 students from Sunan Gunung Djati State Islamic University Bandung who took the Education Translation course. This research employs a case study design and qualitative methods. Interviews and document analysis were the methods used to get data. This research investigates the phenomena surrounding using DeepL Translator in Education Translation classes through in-depth interviews. Purposive sampling was used in the research for sample selection. Three students were chosen as respondents to participate in interviews and document analyses. This research indicates that using DeepL Translator to translate academic texts from Indonesian into English has a positive impact. After using DeepL Translator, students feel helped and can improve the quality of student translations. Since the results of document analysis are given to students, students can pay attention to the quality of translated text from Indonesian into English by completing this research. Furthermore, lecturers are expected to be able to use translation machines such as DeepL Translator in translation classes as a learning medium, following technological developments and strengthening students\u27 translation skills

    INVESTIGATING THE STRATEGIES USED BY EFL STUDENTS AND THE ACCURACY IN TRANSLATING NARRATIVE PICTURE BOOKS FOR CHILDREN

    This research aims to investigate the strategies employed by EFL students when translating a narrative from the English children\u27s picture book "Last Stop on Market Street" by Matt de la Pena (2015). The accuracy of the translation will be evaluated using a scoring scale developed by Nababan, Nuraeni, and Sumardiono (2012). This research offers valuable insights to students by identifying effective translation strategies to help them recognize and correct their errors. Data was collected from 10 students in a translation class at Sunan Gunung Djati State Islamic University in Bandung through a translation test. The findings reveal that the participants mostly use five out of the seven translation strategies proposed by Vinay and Darbelnet (2000): calque, literal translation, transposition, modulation, and adaptation. Literal translation and modulation with calque are the most frequently used strategies. Although some participants can produce accurate translations, they also demonstrate the need to address inaccurate translations. This research also identifies the most common mistake made by students as mistranslating words from the source language to the target language, which could potentially confuse readers. The findings underline the importance of providing targeted instruction on translation strategies for EFL students, emphasizing the role of educators in helping students develop the skills and knowledge required to produce high-quality translations that effectively convey the meaning and nuances of the source text
