Article Argument in Abstracts: A Comparative Discourse Study Between Indonesian-Based and Refereed Journals in Islamic Studies

    No full text
Although there have been studies on the ways writers argue for the importance of their work in their journal article abstracts, such studies on journal article abstracts in the field of Islamic studies have never been conducted. This is important because authors from different fields use different rhetorical styles and linguistic features in their journal articles, such as in their abstracts. The purpose of this study is to look into the argument strategy used in journal article abstracts that are published in local and refereed journals in the field of Islamic studies. For this study, 60 abstracts (i.e., 20 from Indonesian-based journals, 20 from Indonesian-based refereed journals, and 20 from international refereed journals) in Islamic studies were selected and analyzed. The findings indicate that, in terms of abstract length, the three groups of articles are not significantly different; however, in terms of the appearance of Move 1 (introduction, background, or setting) and article justification argument types, they are different. The articles published in the two groups of reputable journals (Indonesian-based and International Refereed Journals) are similar but different from those in Indonesian-based journals. This implies that local journal authors should modify their rhetorical and argumentative styles in their abstracts to match those found in reputable journals, thereby improving the quality of the abstracts.

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is a key commodity in maintaining national food security. However, its production increase is still constrained by limited land availability and low fertilization efficiency, particularly in sub-optimal lands with poor soil fertility. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of sensor-based fertilization on the yield of two rice varieties, IPB 9G and Gogo rice, under sub-optimal conditions. The research was conducted in Kembang Kerang Daya Village, East Lombok, using a split-plot randomized block design with two factors: fertilizer dose (6 levels, including sensor-based recommendations) as the main plot, and rice variety as the subplot, with three replications. Yield components observed included the number of grains per panicle, percentage of filled grains, 1000-grain weight, yield per plot, and estimated yields of harvested dry grain and milled dry grain. The results showed that sensor-based fertilization, combining inorganic, organic, and bio-fertilizers, produced the best performance in nearly all yield parameters, particularly in the IPB 9G variety. This system significantly increased GKG yield compared to conventional fertilization methods. The agronomic efficiency of sensor-based fertilization was 27% higher than conventional fertilization, aligning with the principles of precision agriculture. In conclusion, applying sensor-based fertilization on sub-optimal land presents a promising innovative solution to enhance rice productivity and input efficiency, especially in areas with low soil fertility. Khuruj in the Nidzamuddin Tabligh Jamaah: Implementation and religious implications in Bandung

    No full text
This study investigates the implementation of khuruj within the Nidzamuddin faction of the Tablighi Jamaat in Bandung, Indonesia, and examines its implications for the religious behavior of its members. Using a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study method, the research collected data through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis. The analysis is framed through Max Weber’s theory of social action, which helps interpret khuruj as a form of meaningful and multidimensional religious engagement. The findings show that khuruj is not a mechanical or purely traditional ritual. It is a dynamic process shaped by affective experiences, rational calculations, and deeply held spiritual values. The practice contributes to personal religious transformation, strengthens consistency in worship, and fosters a sense of communal responsibility in religious outreach. The study also explores how internal organizational tensions, particularly the split between the Nidzamuddin and Syura Alami factions, reshaped the movement’s social structure and emphasized the role of value-based cohesion. This research contributes to the sociology of religion by showing how informal, experiential religious practices can influence identity formation and offer meaningful alternatives to formal religious education

Restraint of Trade Clause in the Digital Economy: South African and Islamic Law Comparison

    No full text
Abstract: A Restraint of Trade clause stands between employers to safeguard legitimate protectable interests and the employee\u27s right to exercise a profession freely. Therefore, this research aims to conduct a comprehensive examination into enforcing restraint of trade agreements in South Africa, critically analyzing the judiciary\u27s balance between the legitimate protectable interests of employers and the constitutionally enshrined right of employees to freedom in occupation and profession. A doctrinal review of key South African case law is carried out, where judicial enforcement depends on a value judgment between public policy and contractual freedom, particularly under section 22 of the Constitution. Furthermore, this research engages with the Islamic legal framework on restraint of trade, drawing on foundational concepts such as hurriyat al-kasb (freedom to engage in lawful trade), gharar (prohibition of uncertainty), and the ethical obligations embedded in shurut (contractual conditions). The results show that Islamic jurisprudence imposes strict moral limitations to ensure no clause unjustly inhibits a worker’s right to earn a lawful livelihood while acknowledging the sanctity of contracts. Selected Islamic countries legally approach restraint of trade clauses within a legal system grounded in Sharia principles and statutory law as reported through a comparative analysis. The implications of restraint clauses are also assessed in the context of a digitalized economy, where traditional notions of geographic and jurisdictional limits become blurred. In the absence of precedent, South African courts can rely on territoriality (place of work) or nationality principles (parties’ origin) to determine jurisdiction over cross-jurisdictional digital labor disputes. The contribution advocates for the creation of a robust legal framework to address restraint enforcement in virtual environments, striking a balance between innovation-driven business protection and the fundamental rights of workers under constitutional and Islamic legal traditions

Khusr in the Perspective of the Qur\u27an: Transformation of Meaning from Worldly Loss to Spiritual Loss

    No full text
The term khusr in modern human thought is often understood in material terms, such as financial loss or business failure. However, in the Qur\u27an, all forms of khusran (loss) primarily refer to spiritual and existential dimensions. This study aims to explore the meaning of khusr in the Qur\u27an using a qualitative approach based on Toshihiko Izutsu\u27s semantic analysis. By examining the relational meaning of khusr in the pre-Qur\u27anic period through pre-Islamic Arabic poetry, the concept of loss is shown in the context of warfare and tribal social life. For example, in the poetry of Ka\u27ab bin Zuhair, khusr signifies destruction and misguidance. During the Qur\u27anic era, khusr frequently appears as an ism fā’il (active participle) indicating those who experience loss due to human misconduct, such as disbelief, deceit, oppression, misguidance, and futile deeds. In the post-Qur\u27anic period, the meaning of khusr remained consistent with this spiritual understanding, although its usage gradually expanded toward more material aspects of life

Practical innovation in measuring chlorophyll content of Peranggi chili toward the student learning outcomes

    No full text
Practicum is a learning method that involves students in experiments to understand concepts in depth. One concept that is often considered abstract is chlorophyll, which formation is influenced by environmental factors such as water availability. To clarify this concept, a practicum on chlorophyll extraction from peranggi chili (Capsicum annum L. Var Chinensis) under drought stress was conducted, while introducing local plants to students. The innovation in this practicum lies in the use of color reference sheets as visual indicators. This study aimed to measure learning outcomes and students\u27 responses to the practicum. This study usesed a quantitative descriptive method with instruments in the form of teaching modules, LKPD, psychomotor and affective observation sheets, and response questionnaires. This research consisted of three stages. The first stage of preparation included making and validating instruments. The implementation stage included chlorophyll extraction activities, observations with color reference, psychomotor and affective assessments, and questionnaire filling. Data analysis was carried out by calculating and categorizing data based on Riduwan\u27s categories. The results showed the acquisition of cognitive (85.85), psychomotor (95%), and affective (93%) scores with a very high category, as well as a student response of 81%. This practicum is a new innovation in chlorophyll observation with a simple method and low cost, so it can be applied in schools
