Railways, Social Mobility, and Colonial Urbanization: Bogor in the Early Twentieth Century

This article examines changes in social mobility in Bogor following the introduction of railways in the early twentieth century by positioning rail transport as a key infrastructure in the process of colonial urbanization. The study demonstrates that railway construction in Bogor cannot be understood merely as a technical innovation in transportation, but rather as an economic–political instrument that integrated the hinterland into the administrative and economic networks of the Dutch East Indies. Using a historical approach grounded in colonial archival sources and secondary references in the form of peer-reviewed academic articles and credible media reports, this research analyzes the relationship between railway development, social mobility, and the transformation of urban space during the period 1900–1930. The findings show that railways operated as a colonial mobility regime that simultaneously expanded horizontal mobility among indigenous populations—through intensified spatial movement and occupational diversification—while failing to open vertical mobility in an equitable manner. Access to education, official positions, and social status remained constrained by colonial structures based on race and class. In addition, railway lines and stations functioned as urban nodes that reconfigured the spatial organization of Bogor according to the logic of timetables, economic extraction, and colonial administration. Consequently, mobility and urbanization in Bogor were produced in a differential manner through colonial infrastructure that both accelerated movement and normalized social inequality. This article argues that railways functioned as a politically charged agent of social change and contributes to the historiography of colonial transportation in Indonesia through an analytical lens centered on mobility, power, and social stratification

Representasi Patriarki terhadap Tokoh Fathiya dalam cerpen "An- Nadahah" karya Yusuf Idris: Teori Feminisme Radikal Representasi Patriarki terhadap Tokoh Fathiya dalam cerpen "An- Nadahah" karya Yusuf Idris: Teori Feminisme Radikal: Analisis Feminisme Radikal

    No full text
This study examines the representation of patriarchy and female resistance through the character of Fathiya in Yusuf Idris’s short story An-Nadahah (1962). Employing Kate Millett’s radical feminist theory, the research analyzes how patriarchal domination operates through sexual violence, male passivity, and the internalization of oppressive values within female consciousness. Using a qualitative approach with close reading techniques, the findings reveal that patriarchy functions not only as an external system of male domination, embodied by Afandi’s sexual violence, but also through Hamed’s silence and failure as a husband. Furthermore, the study demonstrates that Fathiya internalizes patriarchal norms that frame silence, shame, and self-sacrifice as moral imperatives. This analysis highlights how patriarchy controls women both structurally and psychologically, reinforcing the relevance of radical feminist theory in literary criticism. Keywords: Patriarchy, Radical Feminism, and Yusuf Idris’s Short Story “An-Nadahah”Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis representasi patriarki dan bentuk perlawanan tokoh Fathiya dalam cerpen “An-Nadahah” (1962) karya Yusuf Idris.

THE INFLUENCE OF GOLD PRICE FLUCTUATIONS, FEAR OF MISSING OUT (FOMO), AND INVESTMENT KNOWLEDGE ON CUSTOMER INTEREST IN THE GOLD INSTALLMENT PRODUCT AT BANK SYARIAH INDONESIA

Gold is regarded as a stable investment instrument and a haven asset amid economic uncertainty. In line with advancements in digital financial services and the growing preference for Sharia-compliant financial products, Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) introduced its Gold Instalment Program as a practical, Sharia-compliant financing facility for gold ownership. However, public interest, particularly among BSI KC Langsa customers, is relatively low. This study examines the effects of Gold Price Fluctuations, Fear of Missing Out (FOMO), and Investment Knowledge on Customer Interest in the BSI Gold Instalment Program. The research was conducted at BSI KC Langsa using a quantitative method and a non-probability convenience sampling technique. A total of 100 respondents were selected using the Slovin formula. The findings indicate that, to some extent, Gold Price Fluctuations significantly influence Customer Interest, whereas FOMO and Investment Knowledge do not. Simultaneously, all three variables significantly influence Customer Interest. This study is expected to provide insights for the public in making investment decisions and for BSI in developing more effective educational and promotional strategies

This study aims to analyse the influence of Tax Knowledge, Tax Service Quality, and Taxpayer Awareness on Rural and Urban Land and Building Tax Compliance with Tax Socialisation as a moderating variable in Cibiru District, Bandung City. The novelty of this study lies in the integration of the role of Tax Socialisation as a moderating variable, which has not been widely studied in the context of Rural and Urban Land and Building Tax, thus contributing to the understanding of the mechanism of how the interaction between taxpayers\u27 internal factors and government intervention affects tax compliance. This study uses primary data collected through a quantitative approach employing proportionate stratified random sampling, with 389 questionnaires distributed to Rural and Urban Land and Building Tax in Cibiru District. Data analysis was conducted using Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) in SPSS version 29. The results show that Tax Service Quality and Taxpayer Awareness have a significant effect on taxpayer compliance. Tax Socialisation moderates the effects of Tax Knowledge and Tax Service Quality on compliance, whereas it does not moderate the effect of Taxpayer Awareness on compliance. These findings provide empirical and practical contributions to the development of strategies to improve Rural and Urban Land and Building Tax compliance through improving the socialisation and quality of tax services

Collaborative Innovation for Green Economy Implementation: A Case Study in Sumedang Regency

This study examines the application of collaborative innovation in the implementation of a green economy in Sumedang Regency, as a sustainable development approach that combines economic prosperity with environmental conservation. The background of this study is the challenges faced by local governments in integrating green economy principles, including cross-sectoral coordination, limited resources, and low public awareness. Collaborative innovation is seen as a potential strategy to overcome these obstacles, by involving the active participation of the government, the private sectors, academia, and communities in designing and implementing sustainability-based programs. The method used was a qualitative case study. Data were collected through literature review, focus group discussions, and field studies that included observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using the iterative model of Miles and Huberman. The results indicate that collaborative innovation in Sumedang Regency is developing in various sectors, such as waste management, organic farming, environmental conservation, and renewable energy. Various innovative green economy collaborations have been implemented, including the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (TPS 3R) Waste Processing Facility, the Waste Bank Unit, the RDF (Refuse-Derived Fuel) processing partnership, maggot processing, the development of microbial-based organic fertilizer QRR (Quantum Rotan Revo), and the Climate Village Program. Policy support, the government\u27s role as a facilitator, multi-stakeholder involvement, and synergy between public and private actors are key driving factors. However, technical, managerial, and financing challenges still limit program optimization. Collaborative innovation has great potential to strengthen the implementation of a green economy in Sumedang. Success can be achieved by expanding the scale of implementation, integrating cross-sector programs, enhancing the government\u27s role as a facilitator, intermediary/liaison in collaboration, improving human resource capacity, and establishing a clear regulatory framework. Thus, this research is expected to contribute to the theory and practice of public administration, especially for the role of government as a policy maker and implementer

This study analyses the challenges and opportunities of research and community service policy at the Institutes for Research and Community Service (LP2M) of UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung and UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. Specifically, it aims to identify the configuration of structural and cultural issues that affect policy implementation, and to map strategic opportunities for strengthening the governance of research and community service in these two State Islamic Higher Education Institutions (PTKIN). The study employs a qualitative approach with a comparative case study design, drawing on in-depth interviews with LP2M stakeholders (chairs, heads of centres, and academic staff), as well as an intensive analysis of national regulatory documents, university statutes, strategic plans, research and community service roadmaps, guidelines and SOPs, and institutional performance and ranking data. Data were analysed thematically to identify policy patterns, constraints, and strategies for reinforcement. The findings show that research and community service policies at both universities have been designed within a relatively comprehensive and integrated framework, with LP2M positioned as a strategic hub for the governance of the Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi. However, effectiveness remains constrained by limited funding, disparities in human resource capacity, high academic workloads, administrative bureaucracy, weak global networks, and an academic culture that is not yet fully adaptive. At the same time, the status of both UINs as national reference institutions, regulatory support, the ongoing transformation of PTKIN, digitalisation, and local strengths and strategic networks offer significant opportunities for policy reform and for strengthening research and community service governance in a more effective, inclusive, and socially transformative direction

This study investigates the impact of social media convergence on the communication strategies of Islamic organizations in West Java, namely Persatuan Islam, Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama. Using a qualitative approach, the research involved field observations, in-depth interviews, and content analyses of social media platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook. Data were analyzed thematically to understand shifts in communication patterns and identity construction. The findings reveal that these organizations have actively adopted digital platforms to disseminate religious narratives, engage audiences, and construct institutional identities. Social media convergence enables decentralized communication, reshaping traditional religious authority and expanding outreach to digitally native demographics. NU and Muhammadiyah emphasize moderate and inclusive Islamic narratives, whereas Persis adopts a more doctrinal yet adaptive approach. All three demonstrate differentiated audience-targeting and platform strategies aligned with organizational values. This transformation reflects a structural shift in religious communication from hierarchical models to dialogic, participatory, and algorithm-aware strategies. Organizational success depends on media literacy, narrative adaptability, and collaborative leadership that integrates traditional and digital actors
