Unveiling Muhammadiyah\u27s Cultural Da\u27wah: An Ethnographic Exploration at PCM Kasihan, Yogyakarta
This ethnographic study examines Muhammadiyah\u27s grassroots cultural da\u27wah via PCM Kasihan, Bantul, Yogyakarta (2023–2024), revealing how this puritanical movement negotiates and transforms Javanese culture. Grounded in cultural da\u27wah, Dahlanism (selective-accommodative-transformative strategy of K.H. Ahmad Dahlan), and purification-accommodation dialectics (Geertz, Malinowski), it deploys participant observation, interviews, FGDs, and thematic analysis of da\u27wah interactions. Findings highlight Dahlanism\u27s success: accommodating Javanese calendars/Krama in rituals; repurposing yasinan/tahlilan for Qur\u27anic education; maslahah-driven cultural partnership. Challenges include balancing purity with tradition and cadre hesitancy; recommendations advocate integrating the model into central training and inter-branch forums. Contributions: empirical micro-portrait of da\u27wah; theoretical sharpening of Dahlanism beyond puritan-traditional binaries for modern Islamic locality strategies
Religious Culture Learning and Islamic Character Formation in Integrated Islamic Schools
In a global educational context marked by rapid social change, digital transformation, and increasing concerns over moral and character formation, schools are challenged to balance academic excellence with the cultivation of ethical and religious values. This study examines how religious culture learning is planned, implemented, and evaluated in an Islamic junior secondary school, and assesses its contribution to shaping students’ religious character. Employing a qualitative phenomenological design, data were collected through in-depth interviews with school leaders, teachers, students, and parents. The data were analyzed thematically to capture participants’ lived experiences and institutional practices related to religious culture learning. The findings indicate that the school has systematically integrated religious culture into instructional planning, classroom practices, and evaluation processes. Active learning strategies, the use of diverse learning media, and consistent habituation practices were found to effectively support the development of students’ religious character. Nevertheless, the study also identifies challenges arising from contemporary social dynamics and external influences that may affect character formation. The study concludes that religious culture learning, when supported by collaborative engagement with parents and the community, can function as a meaningful pedagogical strategy for character education. These findings imply that Islamic educational institutions need adaptive, context-sensitive models of religious culture learning to ensure continued relevance and effectiveness in fostering holistic student development
Integrating Nationalist Character and Social Care Education in Islamic Elementary Schools
Character education is a central concern in Islamic elementary schools as they are expected to cultivate students’ religious values alongside nationalist attitudes and social responsibility in an increasingly complex social context. This study aims to examine the implementation of nationalist character education and social care education, including the strategies employed, challenges encountered, and outcomes achieved in an Islamic Elementary School. The research employed a qualitative descriptive method with a case study design and collected data through in-depth interviews and document analysis. The findings indicate that nationalist character education has been systematically integrated into school culture through routine activities such as flag ceremonies, morning assemblies, and the practice of national songs, thereby effectively fostering students’ sense of national identity. In contrast, social care education is implemented mainly through community-based programs, including charitable activities such as distributing rice packages to underprivileged communities. However, the study also reveals persistent challenges in strengthening students’ social sensitivity, particularly regarding environmental cleanliness and empathy toward others. These results highlight an imbalance between the development of nationalist values and social care behaviors. This research implies that Islamic educational institutions need more holistic and consistent strategies to integrate nationalist character education and social care within Islamic education curricula to enhance students’ moral, civic, and social responsibility
Empathic Professional Competence Through A Deontological and Islamic Values-Based Pedagogical Model
The growing complexity of social interaction, digitalized learning environments, and ethical challenges in contemporary education has intensified the need for teachers who demonstrate not only pedagogical competence but also strong empathic and moral responsibility. This demand is particularly salient in Islamic educational institutions, where teachers are expected to embody ethical conduct, compassion (rahmah), and professional accountability grounded in Islamic values. This study aims to design and qualitatively examine a deontologically grounded pedagogical model for developing empathic professional competence among prospective teachers in Islamic higher education. Adopting a qualitative research design, the study integrates pedagogical modeling with classroom observations and semi-structured reflective interviews involving pre-service teachers and teacher educators in Islamic higher education institutions. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis to explore how empathic professional competence was internalized, enacted, and reflected upon within authentic teaching contexts. The findings reveal three interrelated themes: internalization of moral duty as a professional obligation, growth of empathic sensitivity toward students’ cognitive and emotional needs, and enhanced ethical reflection in pedagogical decision-making. These findings indicate that the deontological and Islamic values-based pedagogical model supports the holistic formation of empathic professional competence by fostering ethical awareness, reflective judgment, and morally grounded teaching practices. In conclusion, the study offers a theoretically grounded qualitative framework for strengthening teacher preparation in Islamic education, with practical implications for cultivating ethically responsible, empathetic, and reflective educators in madrasah, pesantren, and Islamic higher education institutions
Genealogi Penafsiran Bidadari dalam Al-Qur’an: Analisis Wacana Kuasa dalam Tafsir Klasik hingga Kontemporer
This article explores the genealogy of interpretations of the term bidadari (heavenly companions) in the Qur’an from classical to contemporary periods. Using Michel Foucault’s genealogical method and supported by feminist hermeneutics, particularly Amina Wadud’s classification of tafsir, the study investigates how gendered narratives in eschatological verses have evolved over time. Classical exegeses tend to present bidadari as sensual female figures intended as rewards for male believers, reinforcing patriarchal paradigms. In contrast, contemporary interpretations emphasize symbolic and ethical dimensions that are more inclusive and just. By tracing interpretive models—traditional, reactive, and holistic—this study demonstrates how exegetical authority interacts with cultural power structures, producing normative gendered meanings. The analysis also shows how knowledge production in tafsir is embedded in political, religious, and social contexts that marginalize women’s experiences and spiritual agency. Ultimately, this article contributes to Qur’anic gender studies by offering a critical discourse analysis of theological narratives that have long been accepted as absolute. It argues for interpretive renewal that prioritizes justice, reciprocity, and contextual relevance
THE EFFECT OF THE CORRUPTION PERCEPTION INDEX AND PUBLIC SUPERVISION ON THE ACHIEVEMENT OF ECONOMIC GROWTH
The achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 8 on inclusive and sustainable economic growth, faces significant challenges across many countries. One of the main obstacles is corruption, which undermines economic efficiency, reduces investment, and weakens public trust. In addition, weak public oversight leads to a lack of accountability in the management of national budgets. These issues create a need to understand the extent to which the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) and public oversight influence the attainment of economic growth. This study aims to empirically analyze the impact of the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) and public oversight on the achievement of SDG 8. The study employs secondary data sourced from Transparency International, the Worldwide Governance Indicators, and the UNDP, covering 148 countries in 2021, and uses multiple linear regression with the Human Development Index (HDI) as a control variable. The results indicate that both CPI and public oversight have a positive and significant effect on the attainment of SDG 8, while HDI shows no significant influence. These findings underscore the importance of governance integrity and effective public oversight in supporting inclusive and sustainable economic growth. They also provide implications for governments and stakeholders in formulating more responsive development policies to accelerate the achievement of SDG 8
Nomenklatur Program Studi Hukum Keluarga Islam dan Persepsi Masyarakat: Studi Empiris di Kabupaten Rejang Lebong
Changes in the nomenclature of the Islamic Family Law Study Programme (HKI) at State Islamic Religious Universities are often assumed to affect the level of public understanding and interest in the study programme. This study aims to analyse public perceptions of the naming of the Islamic Family Law Study Programme and its implications for study interest in Rejang Lebong Regency. This study uses a descriptive quantitative approach with a survey method. Data were collected through questionnaires administered to 439 respondents from various social backgrounds and regions. The results show that the public\u27s understanding of the name of the Islamic Family Law Study Program is moderate, with the majority of respondents aware of the existence and general characteristics of the study program, although they do not yet have a comprehensive understanding of the competencies of graduates and their career prospects. Empirical findings also show that the name of the study program does not have a significant effect on the decline in the number of new students, as evidenced by the stability and even increase in the number of applicants in the last academic year. This study concludes that the main factor influencing student interest is not the nomenclature of the study programme, but rather strategies to strengthen its academic image and socialise graduate competencies. Therefore, strengthening the brand image of the Islamic Family Law Study Programme is a strategic step in increasing its competitiveness and public trust
Assessing The Role of Halal Certification in Shaping Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises’ Perceptions and Income
Halal certification has become increasingly important among Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), especially in the food and beverage sector, following the implementation of Indonesia’s Law No. 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Assurance. This certification serves both as a regulatory requirement and a means to gain consumer trust, particularly from the Muslim majority. This study aims to explore the impact of halal certification on business actors’ perceptions and income levels within the traditional market area of Pasar Tumpah, Komplek Bumi Harapan, Bandung Regency. A descriptive qualitative method was used. Primary data were collected through direct observation and semi-structured interviews with nine culinary business owners. Six of whom were certified halal and three were not. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that certified business owners generally perceive halal certification positively, recognizing its benefits in improving consumer trust and business image. However, only two of the six certified businesses reported a noticeable increase in income. The remaining four did not experience significant financial changes. Uncertified respondents acknowledged the value of halal certification but cited cost and process complexity as primary barriers. Halal certification contributes positively to the perception of MSMEs in traditional markets, though its direct impact on income may vary. Support mechanisms may be needed to assist small businesses in obtaining certification
