Assessing the Impact of De-radicalisation and Counter-radicalism Initiatives: A Case Study of PW Fatayat NU in West and East Java, Indonesia

    No full text
This study comprehensively evaluates de-radicalisation and counter-radicalism programs administered by the provincial branches of PW Fatayat NU in West Java and East Java, Indonesia. Employing a qualitative field research methodology, the study integrates data from document analysis, participant observation, semi-structured interviews with key organisational leaders and partners, and focus group discussions with diverse stakeholders. The analysis is framed by Kinsley’s seven organisational effectiveness dimensions—structure, strategy, systems, skills, style, staff, and shared values—offering a multidimensional perspective on program implementation and outcomes. Results reveal that while both provincial branches have established foundational organisational structures and strategic orientations conducive to program delivery, significant differences exist in system utilisation, professional capacity, and advocacy effectiveness. The West Java branch is characterised by strong interdepartmental coordination, effective communication channels, and well-defined governance structures. In contrast, the East Java branch faces challenges with strategic impact and resource mobilisation. Both branches demonstrate active stakeholder engagement through knowledge sharing, social reintegration, and policy advocacy. The study identifies critical constraints, including limited professional expertise, inconsistent communication practices, and insufficient collaborative networks, which impede optimal program performance. This research contributes to the growing scholarship on countering violent extremism (CVE) by foregrounding the importance of professional organizational management and inclusive multistakeholder engagement. It further underscores the imperative of gender-sensitive approaches and continuous capacity development to enhance program sustainability. These findings offer actionable insights for policymakers, civil society organisations, and government agencies committed to strengthening the efficacy and resilience of counter-radicalism interventions in complex socio-political environments

    No full text
Enhancing educational outcomes for underachieving gifted students, defined as those with an IQ ≥ 110 but mathematics scores below 80%, requires innovative teaching strategies. This study investigates the effectiveness of the Student Teams Achievement Divisions (STAD) compared to conventional teaching for improving mathematics learning outcomes among underachieving gifted students. Using a experimental design with randomised pre-test and post-test groups, 60 students from class XII IPA at SMA Negeri 5 Surabaya were assigned to either the STAD (n=30) or control group (n=30). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and an independent t-test. The STAD group achieved a mean gain score of 39.633, compared to 27.267 for the control group, with a significant difference (t(58) = 7.380, p <0.001, d =1.91). These findings suggest STAD is effective for enhancing mathematics performance in this Indonesian population, supporting its use in collaborative learning contexts. Further research should explore long-term effects and additional outcomes

Jewish Liberation Theology and its perspectives among Jewish religious leaders on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict

    No full text
This study explores the theological perspectives of Jewish religious leaders on the Israel–Palestine conflict, with a particular focus on Jewish Liberation Theology. Employing a qualitative approach through literature review and in-depth interviews with nine rabbis representing three theological strands—Religious Zionism, Moderate Judaism, and Liberation Theology—this research examines how the Jewish collective historical experience, particularly the Shoah and diaspora, has shaped differing interpretations of justice, power, and interfaith relations. The analysis adopts a contextual hermeneutic paradigm that integrates textual interpretations of the Torah, Talmud, and prophetic literature with ethical reflection on structural oppression and political violence. The findings reveal that Jewish Liberation Theology constructs a narrative of universal solidarity, rejecting exclusivist claims to sacred land and advocating for the rights of Palestinians as a moral imperative rooted in Torah ethics. In contrast, Religious Zionist theology affirms the establishment of the State of Israel as a fulfillment of divine prophecy and upholds Jewish ethno-religious sovereignty. Meanwhile, Moderate Jewish theology seeks a balance between pluralism, democracy, and religious tradition. The study concludes that these theological divergences have significant implications for the political and ethical orientations of Jewish communities both in Israel and the diaspora. The research contributes to the field of religious studies by offering a new typological mapping of Jewish theological responses to political conflict and demonstrating how religious belief can function both as a source of domination and as a liberating moral force

Ḥabs as Common Living Heritage: Beyond the Cash Waqf as Deep Financial Innovation

    No full text
Abstract: This conceptual exploration examines the deep meaning of ḥabs as a common living heritage extending beyond mainstream financial interpretations that consider private waqf an innovation of Islam and cash waqf being the best innovation in private waqf. Through the conceptual-hermeneutic approach, Rizq (divine provision) precedes human notions of ownership and city organisation, with the first ḥabs being Bayt (House of Allah) built by Ādam. This research highlights the spiritual relevance of the sacred milieu of Makkah and critiques modern economic concepts that prioritise material growth and individual ownership over the holistic understanding of life and divine provision inherent to the deep meaning of ḥabs. Finally, this research advocates for a re-evaluation of how we perceive wealth, ownership and societal well-being considering ḥabs as a dynamic, connected living system

A Thematic Exegesis of The Qur’an on the Climate Crisis: An Analytical Study of Seyyed Hossein Nasr’s Ecological Philosophy

    No full text
The global climate crisis poses a serious threat to human sustainability that cannot be solved by technology alone. This article explores how thematic interpretation (tafsīr mawḍūʿī) of the Qur\u27an can help raise ecological awareness and responsibility, focusing on the environmental philosophy of Seyyed Hossein Nasr. Using a qualitative descriptive approach based on library research, the study analyses selected Qur\u27anic verses related to environmental ethics. It also reviews Nasr’s critique of modernity and his call to re-sacralise nature. The findings show that the Qur\u27an encourages environmental stewardship and ethical responsibility, while Nasr’s spiritual cosmology provides a strong theological basis for an ecological ethic grounded in the Qur\u27an. The study concludes that combining thematic Qur\u27anic interpretation with Nasr’s insights offers a comprehensive framework for addressing the climate crisis within Islamic thought. Additionally, institutional support, academic traditions, and digital platforms are essential to effectively promote these ecological values in contemporary Muslim communities

From Ritual to Consensus: Local Traditions as Mechanisms of Interfaith Harmony in Toraja, Indonesia

    No full text
This study investigates the role of Rambu Solo funeral rituals and Tongkonan ancestral houses in fostering interfaith harmony and social cohesion in Rembon, Tana Toraja, Indonesia. The research aims to explain how these traditions, beyond their symbolic functions, operate as practical mechanisms for conflict resolution and community solidarity in a highly plural society. This focus is crucial given Indonesia’s recurring challenges in managing religious diversity, where pluralism, if not effectively governed, can lead to social tension and communal conflict. A qualitative case study design was employed, drawing on in-depth interviews with traditional leaders, religious figures, and community members, complemented by participant observation and document analysis. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis to uncover the mechanisms, values, and processes embedded in Rambu Solo and Tongkonan. The findings reveal that Rambu Solo serves as a site of interfaith cooperation through collective participation in rituals, while Tongkonan provides a deliberative forum for consensus-building on social and religious issues. The implications suggest that Toraja traditions can serve as models for multicultural policy and practice, particularly in promoting local wisdom as instruments of peacebuilding. Adaptive strategies, including simplifying ritual obligations, integrating cultural values into education, and fostering interfaith dialogue between adat and religious leaders, are recommended to sustain harmony. The originality of this research lies in its demonstration that interfaith harmony emerges not only from doctrinal ideals or abstract principles but from living cultural institutions that embed pluralism into daily practices. By bridging Durkheim’s concept of collective consciousness and Weber’s theory of communal solidarity with empirical evidence from Toraja, this study contributes a distinctive model of sustainable pluralism rooted in indigenous traditions
