An Integrated Sharia-Based Performance Management Framework for Indonesian SMEs
This study develops a structured Sharia-based approach to employee performance management in Indonesian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). SME performance systems often emphasize efficiency, while Islamic ethical and spiritual principles remain under operationalized within formal HR mechanisms. The study integrates Maqāṣid al-Sharī‘ah and Islamic Work Ethics into a three-dimensional performance framework encompassing spiritual motivation, ethical conduct, and organizational contribution, addressing the limited operationalization of Islamic ethics in SME performance research. A qualitative exploratory conceptual design is employed through document analysis of classical Islamic texts and contemporary management literature. Four foundational principles: intention (niyyah), trustworthiness (amanah), excellence (ihsan), and justice (‘adl), are translated into a three-dimensional Sharia-based performance framework encompassing spiritual motivation, ethical conduct, and organizational contribution. The framework advances Islamic management and IHRM scholarship by repositioning Sharia principles as an operational evaluative infrastructure that bridges spiritual accountability and formal HR systems, while offering practical guidance for ethically resilient SMEs in Indonesia
Unraveling Religious Symbolism in Tokwi Lasem Batik Motifs: Charles Sanders Peirce\u27s Semiotic Analysis of the Representation of Meaning and Cultural Identity
This study investigates the representation of religious symbols embedded within the Tokwi Lasem batik motifs, utilizing the semiotic framework of Charles Sanders Peirce. Originating from the Chinese Peranakan community in Lasem, Central Java, these batik motifs carry profound spiritual significance, particularly symbols rooted in Taoist belief systems, such as the Three Star Gods (Fu Lu Shou), the Eight Immortals (Ba Xian), dragons, phoenixes, and Mandarin characters. Employing a qualitative method, data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with artisans, cultural experts, and curators, as well as a literature review. The findings demonstrate that the motifs serve not merely as decorative art but as sacred signs functioning within Peirce’s triadic model of semiosis—comprising representamen, object, and interpretant. These signs embody a dynamic interplay of religious meaning and cultural memory, forming a visual language that bridges the sacred and the everyday. The motifs reflect a deep-seated syncretism between Chinese Taoist cosmology and Javanese local traditions, articulating identity, reverence, and continuity of belief. Theoretically, this study contributes to the growing body of scholarship on religious semiotics and material culture, while also emphasizing the interpretive richness of traditional batik as a medium of spiritual communication. Practically, the research advocates for the recognition of batik as a living heritage, fostering cultural resilience, interethnic understanding, and localized approaches to heritage education and preservation
Integration of the Numbered Heads Together Model and Audiovisual Media in Social Studies: Strengthening Character Education in Elementary Schools
This article examines the effectiveness of integrating the Numbered Heads Together (NHT) cooperative learning model with audio-visual media in social studies to boost learning outcomes and character development among 60 fifth-grade students at Elementary School Cluster 1, Takalar Regency, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Using a quantitative experimental design with pre-test/post-test control groups, the experimental group (NHT + audio-visual) outperformed the control (conventional methods), achieving a mean post-test score of 82.4 vs. 66.3 (p < 0.05). Observations showed enhanced participation, collaboration, accountability, critical thinking, and social skills. This approach fosters a dynamic environment for cognitive, moral, and social growth, emphasizing teacher training and tech infrastructure
A Phenomenological Inquiry into Political Marketing Dynamics in Indonesia\u27s 2024 Presidential Election: The Case of Anies Baswedan\u27s Campaign Narrative
This study aims to analyze the political marketing strategies implemented by the Anies Rasyid Baswedan and Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar (AMIN) ticket in the 2024 Presidential Election through a phenomenological approach. The research focuses on interpreting the experiences of political actors—including the supporting parties, campaign teams, and volunteers—in building a political narrative based on change and social justice. The phenomenological approach was chosen to explore the subjective meaning of the political communication process and campaign strategies that shape the candidate pair\u27s image in the public eye. The results of the study indicate that the strategy of Segmenting, Targeting, and Positioning (STP) and the implementation of the Marketing Mix (product, promotion, price, and place) became the main foundation in shaping the public perception of the AMIN ticket. Political products that emphasize moral values, integrity, and support for the common people were promoted through digital strategies and a massive volunteer movement. These findings confirm that political marketing is not only an electoral instrument, but also a social communication process that builds moral legitimacy and public participation. This research provides a theoretical contribution to the development of political marketing studies in Indonesia, particularly in the context of participatory democracy that emphasizes ethics, transparency, and public trust
AI-Era Digital Literacy: Cultivating Honesty in Islamic Education
This qualitative case study at SMP Prima Cendikia Islami (PCI), Bandung, examines integrating AI-driven digital literacy with honesty education in a faith-based junior high school. Using purposive sampling of leaders, teachers, students, and parents, data from interviews, focus groups, document analysis, and observations underwent thematic analysis with triangulation for rigor. Findings show AI platforms (e.g., TAKJUP, LMS, Parent Information System) embed moral reasoning via formative monitoring, sustaining top national character rankings. High teacher training and student-led clinics promote ethical accountability, proving pedagogical design determines AI\u27s moral impact. Faith-based schools can thus harmonize tech innovation with values education, offering a scalable model. Future research should explore longitudinal moral outcomes and validated honesty measures
Integrating Islamic Marketing Education to Building Consumer Literacy and Entrepreneurial Mindset in Pesantren
Globally, Islamic educational institutions face increasing pressure to respond to digital economic transformations while maintaining Islamic ethical and pedagogical foundations. This study aims to examine the role of Islamic Marketing Education (IME), integrated with the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT), in enhancing consumer literacy and fostering an entrepreneurial mindset among santri in Indonesian Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). Using a quantitative cross-sectional survey design, data were collected from 350 santri and analyzed through Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) using SmartPLS version 4. The results demonstrate that IME has a positive and significant effect on consumer literacy, entrepreneurial mindset, and core UTAUT constructs, including performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, and facilitating conditions. In addition, entrepreneurial mindset and UTAUT variables significantly predict santri’ intention to use e-commerce, while consumer literacy acts as a moderating factor that supports reflective, value-based decision-making and mitigates uncritical technology adoption. The study concludes that integrating Islamic pedagogical approaches with technology acceptance frameworks effectively strengthens digital readiness without compromising Islamic moral principles. These findings imply that Islamic education, particularly within pesantren contexts, should systematically incorporate ethically grounded digital entrepreneurship and consumer literacy to prepare students for responsible participation in the contemporary digital economy
Religious Tourism at Mama Sempur\u27s Tomb Improves the Quality of Economic Welfare with Religious Tourism
This study aims to analyze the impact of religious tourism at Makam Mama Sempur on the economic well-being of the local community and how social and economic transformations occur due to the increasing number of pilgrims. Employing a qualitative research approach with a descriptive-analytical method and field study, this research explores the dynamics of community-based economic shifts. The findings reveal that religious tourism has created new economic opportunities, allowing residents to transition from precarious employment to entrepreneurship, thereby improving their standard of living. Drawing on microeconomic and socio-economic theories, the study highlights that the sustainability of this sector depends on social capital and the implementation of inclusive management strategies. The study concludes that religious tourism serves not only as a spiritual practice but also as a catalyst for local economic growth. However, its sustainability requires careful attention to environmental management and the equitable distribution of economic benefits
Holistic Spiritual Qur\u27anic (HSQ) Method in Da\u27wah: Irshad\u27s Perspectives on Religious Studies and Contemporary Issues
How positive affect moderates job characteristics and lecturer job satisfaction in higher Islamic education?
This study examines how job characteristics dimensions and positive affect influence job satisfaction among lecturers in Faculties of Islamic Economics and Business at State Islamic Religious Universities (PTKIN) in Indonesia. It aims to address the growing concern regarding academic job satisfaction within Islamic higher education institutions facing increasing professional and institutional demands. Despite the strategic role of lecturers in ensuring educational quality, declining job satisfaction remains a persistent issue in Indonesian higher education. Limited empirical evidence exists on how job design and affective dispositions jointly influence lecturer satisfaction in Islamic university contexts. This study contributes to the literature by integrating the Job Characteristics Model and dispositional affect theory through moderation analysis in the context of Islamic higher education. It provides empirical evidence on the interactive effects between job characteristics and positive affect, which remain underexplored in prior studies. This study employed a quantitative explanatory survey design involving 207 lecturers from seven PTKIN institutions in Java. Data were collected using validated instruments and analyzed using moderated regression analysis to examine direct and interaction effects among variables. The results indicate that skill variety, task identity, task significance, and autonomy have significant positive effects on job satisfaction, while feedback does not show a significant influence. Positive affect demonstrates a consistent positive relationship with job satisfaction. Furthermore, positive affect partially moderates the relationships between most job characteristics dimensions and job satisfaction, although the moderation effects are negative. This study confirms the relevance of job design and affective dispositions in shaping lecturer job satisfaction within Islamic higher education. The findings suggest that institutional efforts should integrate job enrichment strategies with psychological well-being programs to enhance academic performance and organizational sustainability
Transformative Leadership from Marginalized Origins: A Model for Community Empowerment and Socio-Economic Change
This study aims to examine the transformative leadership model implemented by a village head with a background as a former thug and its implications for the community empowerment process in Cikuya Village, Cicalengka District, Bandung Regency, Indonesia. Village leaders with non-conventional backgrounds are often perceived negatively and considered problematic in the context of village governance. However, in practice, such figures have the potential to bring about significant social change, particularly in village development and strengthening community participation. This study uses a qualitative approach with juridical-sociological methods to deeply understand the socio-political dynamics, leadership patterns, and the legitimacy of the village head\u27s power from the perspective of constitutional law and Islamic values. Data collection techniques included in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation, involving the village head, village government officials, community leaders, and residents of Cikuya Village as key informants. Data analysis was carried out using the siyasah dusturiyah theoretical framework as proposed by Ibn Taymiyyah, which emphasized that the legitimacy of leadership is not determined by a person\u27s social background, but rather by the leader\u27s capacity to carry out mandates, uphold justice, and create benefits for the wider community. Through this approach, research is expected to be able to reveal the process of social transformation from a thug figure to a formal leader who is recognized legally and socially. Apart from that, this research is also expected to show how leadership can form effective, responsive, and inclusive patterns, as well as to provide theoretical contributions to the study of village leadership and practical contributions to strengthening village governance
