    Transformasi Teks Kaba Sabai Nan Aluih Menjadi Komik Kaba Sabai Nan Aluih

    The transformation process can be found in Kaba Sabai Nan Aluih text when it is transformed into Kaba Sabai Nan Aluih comics. Using intertextual studies, the process of expansion, conversion, modification, and excerpt is found in the Kaba Sabai Nan Aluih comic and the meaning of the changing process that occurs. The process shows that in Kaba Sabai Nan Aluih comic there is a reduction of story characters that are not too influential in the story, adding a setting to emphasize the storyline, and changes at the end of the story. In general, changes in comics can be identified as reduction of verbal that are converted into images and text balloons in simplified language, ranging from characters, settings, and storylines. Through these images the reader can easily understand the characters, settings, story lines, and messages contained in the story.     PERAN ALAM YANG DIKALAHKAN SANG SAPURBA DITINJAU DARI PERSPEKTIF ETIKA LINGKUNGAN

    This study aims to reveal the concept of the role of nature from the view of Malays based on the type in Dikalahkan Sang Sapurba romance by Ediruslan Pe Amanriza. The method used is analytical descriptive with reference to environmental ethics and Kluckhohn. Data, in the form of sentences or paragraph quotes from romances, are classified and analyzed to obtain a complete understanding of environmental issues based on the concept of the role of nature. The results of the analysis show that the role of nature, which is believed to be both magical and real, will determine the form of identity of its social control. Magical roles provide sacred nature as a form of ecocentricism, while the real role symbolizesthat nature can be mastered or opposed which reflects the form of anthropocentrism from the perspective of environmental ethics. This study also shows that the real role is more dominant than the occult role so the end of the story is shown by the form of sad ending.Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan mengungkapkan konsep peran alam dari pandangan orang Melayu berdasarkan tipe dalam roman Dikalahkan Sang Sapurba karya Ediruslan Pe Amanriza. Metode yang digunakan deskriptif analitis dengan acuan teori etika lingkungan (ekokritik) dan Kluckhohn. Data berupa kutipan kalimat atau paragraf dari roman yang diklasifikasikan dan dianalisis untuk memperoleh gambaran secara lengkap atas persoalan lingkungan hidup berdasarkan konsep peran alam. Hasil analisis dapat disimpulkan bahwa peran alam yang diyakini baik gaib dan nyata akan menentukan wujud identitas kontrol sosialnya. Peran gaib memberikan konsep alam yang suci (sacred nature) sebagai bentuk ekosentrisme, sedangkan peran nyata melambangkan bahwa alam dapat dikuasai atau dilawan yang mencerminkan wujud dari antroposentrisme dari perspektif etika lingkungan. Penelitian ini menunjukkan pula bahwa peran nyata lebih dominan dibandingkan peran gaib sehingga akhir cerita ditunjukkan dengan bentuk sad ending.

    ISLAM EKSKLUSIF YANG TOLERAN: TELAAH ATAS POLA DIDAKTIS ADIT SOPO JARWO

    This study aims to explain the reservations about the popular TV series Adit Sopo Jarwo, whose plots are considered simplistic. Specifically, the questions raised here are: 1) how does didacticism manifest in Adit Sopo Jarwo and 2) what serves as the background forsuch didacticism. I reviewed the theory of didacticism in children’s literature and theories related to the phenomena of post-secularism and post-islamism. The object of this study includesten episodes of Adit Sopo Jarwo. The objects were analyzed in two stages. In the first stage, I analyzed the themes of the objects of study. Then, the pattern obtained from the first stage was discussed with regards to the social and historical backgrounds of the objects. The study resulted in the discovery of the monolithic tendency in the didactic pattern of Adit Sopo Jarwo, which in this case manifests in the presence of Haji Udin as the dominant source of wisdom. It can be interpreted here that Islam is the dominant source of wisdom despite the fact that the characters are diverse in terms of religion. With regards to the social background, this monolithic tendency can be interpreted further as being in line with the phenomena of post-islamism, especially with the notion of exclusivist but tolerant Islam, in which there is an exclusivist tendency in terms of theology but sociologically tolerant.Adit Sopo Jarwo is an Indonesian animation series that has gained quite high popularity in the past couple of years. However, there is still some dissatisfaction among its audience regarding the series’ overtly didactic nature. This study aims to highlight and explain the didactic pattern of Adit Sopo Jarwo and to interpret this didacticism with regards to the social context that serves as the background of this work. For the purpose of this study, ten episodes of Adit Sopo Jarwo obtained from a YouTube search were analyzed. This study reveals the monolithic tendency of the didacticism of Adit Sopo Jarwo with the involvement of Haji Udin both direct and indirect as the source of wisdom. In the final analysis, the writer proposes the hypothesis of exclusivist but tolerant Islam as the explanation for the didactic pattern of Adit Sopo Jarwo

    Dekonstruksi Eksistensialisme Tokoh dalam Novel Divergent Karya Veronica Roth

    This study focuses on the study of the deconstruction towards the concept of character’s existentialism in Veronica Roth's Divergent which begins with the propagation of existentialism as a mainstream value in the novel but still raises problems and issues of freedom. Generally, this study has two main problems: (1) how deconstruction works on the existentialism of the characters in the novel, (2) what are the inherent values contained in the novel as a result of the deconstruction study of the concept of character’s existentialism. This study employs the theory and method of deconstruction as a framework of analysis and existentialism as a concept. The result of this study indicates that the existentialism echoed by the author as the primary value is deconstructed into character’s dehumanization who deals with the non-freedom of choice of life.Penelitian ini berfokus pada kajian dekonstruksi terhadap konsep eksistensialisme tokoh dalam novel Divergent karya Veronica Roth yang berawal dari pengajuan eksistensialisme sebagai nilai arus utama di dalam novel namun masih menimbulkan permasalahan dan isu-isu terkait kebebasan. Secara garis besar, penelitian ini memiliki dua permasalahan utama yaitu (1) bagaimana dekonstruksi bekerja pada eksistensialisme tokoh di dalam novel Divergent, (2) apa nilai-nilai inheren yang termuat di dalam novel sebagai hasil dari kajian dekonstruksi terhadap konsep eksistensialisme tokoh. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori dan metode dekonstruksi sebagai kerangka analisa dan eksistensialisme sebagai konsep. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa eksistensialisme yang digaungkan pengarang sebagai nilai utama justru terdekonstruksi menjadi dehumanisasi tokoh yang masih terjerat ketidakbebasan atas pilihan hidup

    Reinterpretation of Bambang Sumatri Story in Sujiwo Tejo’s Graphic Novel Serat Tripama: Gugur Cinta di Maespati

    This paper aims to analyze the reinterpret the story of  Bambang Sumantri in Sujiwo Tejo’s graphic novel Serat Tripama: Gugur Cinta di Maespati.  The meaning of heroism in this novel was reexamined through various doubts, unawareness, and wonder of Bambang Sumantri. The data were collected through reading, observing, and taking notes. The data were analyzed with the semiotic method.  The interpretation is done by interpreting changes through looking at the relationship between the signifier and the signified within which the implicit, indirect, and uncertain meanings operate, by interpreting the meanings hiddeng behind the words,  phrases, and sentences that are called connotative meanings (second layer) by semiotics. The reinterpretation on this graphic novel shows that in addition to Bambang Sumantri  depicted as truly heroic, there are many other “hands” who helped him become a figure and hero. The heroism of Bambang Sumantri is not the center of this book. Instead, there are also other figures who made him a hero. Therefore, the author reinterpreted the heroism of Bambang Sumantri from different point of view.This paper aims to analyze the transformation of  Bambang Sumatri in Sujiwo Tejo’s graphic novel Serat Tripama: Gugur Cinta di Maespati.  The goal of the study is to discuss the reinterpretation of Wayang (shadow puppet) story into the graphic novel. The story of Bambang Sumantri is one of the three epic stories in Serat Tripama (three role models) written by KGPAA Mangkunegara IV (1809-1881). Serat Tripama is tembang (song) Dandanggula which consists of seven stanzas telling about Bambang Sumantri, Kumbakarna, and Adipati Karna’s heroism which serves as role model for every warrior. Sujiwo Tejo transformed the three of the stories into graphic novels in which Bambang Sumantri is the central character of the first book entitled Serat Tripama: Gugur Cinta di Maespati which was first published in February 2016. The story of Maespati Kingdom’s duke becomes the first of three books as per the order of the tembang: the first and the second stanzas narrate the heroism of Bambang BS, the third and the forth tell about Kumbakarna, the fifth and the sixth tell about Adipati Karna, while the last serves as the conclusion. The transformation in this graphic novel shows that Bambang BS is not always depicted as truly heroic, but also shows many other “hands” which made him the figure and hero. The heroism of Bambang BS is not the center of this book, instead there are also other figures who made him as hero.     Perbandingan Monstrositas Kriminal dalam Red Dragon (1981) Karya Thomas Harris dan Hannibal (2015) Serial Televisi NBC

    This study aims to reveal how differences in criminal monstrosity are portrayed in Red Dragon novel (1981), with the adaptation of his television series titled Hannibal (2013). The problem discussed is the blurred norms as the form of criminal monstrosity development in Hannibal. The theory used is the criminal monstrosity developed by Alexa Wright (2013). This research uses analytical descriptive method. Data from novels and television series are described and compared to get the grand concept of criminal monstrosity. The results showed that the blurred norms in Hannibal can be seen through normalization of cannibalism by using culinary aesthetic,  the role of Will Graham from FBI to Hannibal’s crime partner, and  a more intimate relationship between Will and Hannibal. These blurred norms created a new monstrosity narrative: a monstrous criminal nature behind a person who looks normal and able to function properly in society.Dr. Hannibal “the Cannibal” Lecter merupakan salah satu karakter antagonis yang paling popular di Amerika. Kisah Hannibal diceritakan dalam bentuk tetralogi novel dan telah diadaptasi dalam berbagai medium. Salah satu dari empat novelnya yang berjudul Red Dragon diadaptasi sebagai serial televisi di NBC dengan judul Hannibal. Terdapat perbedaan antara serial TV ini dengan novelnya, terutama dalam menampilkan monstrositas kriminal yang terkait erat dengan praktik kanibalisme. Ada banyak adegan memasak daging manusia yang dikemas dalam gaya Eropa dalam versi adaptasi, namun tidak pada novel. Perbedaan ini menimbulkan satu pertanyaan, yakni bagaimana berbedanya monstrositas criminal antara novel Red Dragon dengan adaptasinya, Hannibal. Penelitian ini bersifat komparatif, menggunakan metode kualitatif, dan menggunakan teori monstrositas kriminal oleh Alexa Wright. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kanibalisme dilihat sebagai tidak etis, barbarik dan gila didalam Red Dragon, sementara Hannibal membawakan sebuah narasi baru: seorang kanibal yang berkelas dan berpendidikan

    Historiografi Tradisional, Raja-Raja Melayu, dan Kekuasaan dalam Hikayat Negeri Johor

    The aim of the research is to find the elements of history  from the kings of Malay in Riau, time of the power, and historic event in Hikayat Negeri Johor. The qualitative method was used with descriptive analysis and comparation study. Results of the study proved that Hikayat Negeri Johor contains many historical elements consisting of figure of the Malay kings, background place and time, and historical events related to their politics and their power. The politics pertain to the dominion of the kings related to some periods, from Sultan Abdul Jalil Syah until Sultan Mahmud. The historical elements can proved from comparation of many sources. The conclusion is that this work has highly historical value. This work can be considered to be used in compiling a local history. The content of the historical elements in this work includes six characters of Malay Kings in Riau, places and times of event, and historical events. Based on the comparation study, it was found that many historical events in Hikayat Negeri Johor are proven facts in history
