INDONESIAN EFL POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS' PERCEPTION TOWARD ACCENT IN LISTENING COMPREHENSION
Listening comprehension has been one of the most challenging proficiency for EFL learners in Indonesia, including for postgraduate students. In this research, the researcher aims to investigate postgraduate students perception of accents within listening comprehension. Furthermore, this research employed a mixed method and an online open-ended questionnaire as the instrument. 33 Indonesian participants who attended Indonesian and Indian universities were willing to join the research. Moreover, the Questionnaire consisted of 11 questions that needed to be answered by the participants. In addition, the researcher analyzed the data by chart and percentage to show the difference between the participants responses. The result revealed that 93.9% of postgraduate students were primarily familiar with the American accent rather than the British accent throughout their education. It is because most of the schools in Indonesia adopt an American accent for their English course.Furthermore, 87.9% of the participants used an American accent when speaking in English, and 63.6% sometimes had difficulty understanding Americans. Additionally, 66.7% of the participants stated that the speaker's speed was the significant problem they had in listening comprehension. However, all of the participants found that accent also had the utmost role in listening comprehension because the accent they listened to correlated to their understanding of vocabulary being spoken by the speaker in the listening comprehension audio. Thus, based on the research, Indonesian postgraduate students perceived accent as pivotal in listening comprehension. The speaker's accent on the listening comprehension audio determined how well they could do the listening comprehension test
DEVELOPMENT OF LEARNING MEDIA WITH GEOGEBRA TO INCREASE STUDENTS LEARNING INTEREST ON FLAT-SIDED BUILDING MATERIALS
GeoGebra is mathematics software that is packaged practically and is easy to use for learning and teaching at all levels of education. This research aims to determine the results of developing valid, practical and effective GeoGebra media on flat-sided geometric materials. This research was conducted at SDN Tukangan Yogyakarta. This research uses Research and Development procedures with the ADDIE development model of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. The subjects of this research were teachers and 27 class VI students. The data collection technique used was a questionnaire. The data collection instruments include material validation questionnaires, media validation questionnaires, practicality test questionnaires, and effectiveness test questionnaires. The data analysis technique uses descriptive analysis techniques, namely describing the data that has been collected. Research results: Validity tests carried out by media and materials experts produced scores of 2.4 and 2.8, both considered sufficient, so revisions were necessary. Furthermore, the revised GeoGebra learning media was tested individually, obtaining scores of 3.7 (very good) and 2.7 (fair) for 5 students and teachers. Field trials carried out by teachers and class VI students resulted in scores of 3.1 and 2.9, considered good in practice. Furthermore, the interest in learning questionnaire showed an increase from 45% to 69% in respondents who were classified as having good interest after using the media. In this way, GeoGebra learning media is validated, practical and effective
PROFIL PENALARAN INDUKTIF SISWA SMP DALAM MEMECAHKAN MASALAH NUMERASI PADA MATERI POLA BILANGAN
Based on the results of the preliminary study, most students were unable to infer formulas of the created patterns and to apply them to the problem's context. This inability refers to inductive thinking, specifically the formulation and generalization stages.The purpose of this study is to describe the profile of students' inductive reasoning in solving numeration problems in the material of number patterns. This study uses a qualitative approach. This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 12 Malang. The stages of students' inductive reasoning are understanding the problem, organizing the problem, looking for and guessing patterns, conjecturing formulas, validating conjectures, and generalizing. The subjects in this study were three students of class VIII C SMP Negeri 12 Malang. Data collection used questions in the form of numeracy questions on number pattern material and interview guidelines. Qualitative data analysis through data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of this study indicate that students with high abilities can carry out all inductive reasoning activities, students with moderate abilities carry out inductive reasoning to activities for finding and guessing patterns, and students with low abilities do not carry out inductive reasoning
CONVERSATIONAL IMPLICATURE FOUND IN STUDENTS’ CONVERSATIONS OF PRAGMATIC CLASS
Pragmatics is a relatively new branch of linguistics. Pragmatics can be interpreted as a branch of linguistics that studies the meaning intended by speakers or, more often, studying language in terms of language speakers. Language plays an important role in communication. This role will impact the interlocutor's acceptance of the speaker. Sometimes, spoken language functions in a different form. What is said with what is intended is sometimes different. This study will be discussed in conversational implicature. Conversational implicature tries to analyze a conversation to obtain its true meaning. The concept of conversational implicature explains the differences between what is said and what is implied. Humor is the mental ability to find, express, or appreciate something funny or uncommon. Each implicature has a specific intent and purpose by each speaker
ICT TO OVERCOME THE STUDENTS’ SPEAKING ANXIETY
In this digital era, English is the most popular international language. Thus, students have to understand well how to speak in English, but some students feel anxiety when they are asked to speak in English. Thus, in this research, the researcher wants to know whether ICT could minimize the students' anxiety in speaking English. In other words, anxiety is a significant problem for students when the lecturer asks them to speak in front of the class. The sample of this research is 18 students as the total number of students in AKBID Wahana Husada Bandar Jaya in the first semester of the academic year 2022/2023. The research was conducted in AKBID Wahana Husada Bandar Jaya Central Lampung. The researcher used quantitative research, a questionnaire test, and an analysis of the data collected in this research; the researcher used a T-test. The result of this research showed that the use of ICT as media was significantly effective in minimizing the students’ speaking anxiety, and they had a positive perception toward the use of ICT as a media in reducing their anxiety in speaking. The students are more confident in speaking English in front of the class
Pengembangan Bahan Ajar Berbasis Project Based Learning untuk Membangun Keterampilan Scientific Creativity dan Kolaborasi Peserta Disik
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan bahan ajar berbasis project-based learning pada materi difraksi cahaya yang praktis dan valid untuk membangun keterampilan scientific creativity dan kolaborasi peserta didik. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah Design & Development Research (DDR) yang terdiri atas 4 tahap yaitu analisis, desain, pengembangan, dan evaluasi. Tahap analisis, didapatkan hasil bahwa dibutuhkannya bahan ajar yang melatihkan keterampilan scientific creativity dan kolaborasi. Pada tahap desain dilakukannya pembuatan storyboard untuk mengembangkan bahan ajar. Sedangkan pada tahap pengembangan, didapatkannya bahan ajar berbasis project-based learning yang selanjutnya dilakukan pengujian validitas dan kepraktisan. Instrumen yang digunakan pada uji kevalidan adalah lembar skala validasi yang terdiri atas validasi isi dan validasi desain. Sedangkan instrumen yang digunakan pada uji kepraktisan terdiri atas uji keterbacaan, respon pendidik, dan respon peserta didik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahan ajar berbasis project-based learning : 1) valid, yang ditunjukkan dengan a) nilai rata-rata validasi isi yaitu 3,25 dengan kategori valid dan b) nilai rata-rata validasi desain yaitu 2,98 dengan kategori valid. 2) sangat praktis, yang ditunjukkan dengan a) persentase rata-rata uji keterbacaan yaitu 74%, b) respon positif pendidik (92%) terhadap bahan ajar, c) respon positif peserta didik (79,5%) terhadap bahan ajar
THE INFLUENCE OF PROBLEM-BASED LEARNING MODELS ON THE CRITICAL THINKING ABILITY OF PHYSICS STUDENTS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORES
This research aims to determine the effect of problem based learning on the critical thinking abilities of physics students at the University of Flores. This type of research is experimental research with a research design that is pre-experimental design with a quantitative approach. The population of this study were all 17 students taking the introductory solid state physics course using a sampling technique, namely saturated side, where all members of the population were sampled. The results of the research show that there is an influence of the use of problem based learning on the critical thinking skills of physics students at the University of Flores. This is evidenced from the results of the analysis of the data obtained, namely the sig. (2-tailed) t table is obtained, namely 51.85 > 1.746
PERBEDAAN LEVEL KEMAMPUAN METAKOGNISI SISWA DALAM MEMECAHKAN MASALAH MATEMATIKA DITINJAU DARI KEMAMPUAN MATEMATIKA SISWA
Penelitian ini bertujuan membedakan level metakognisi siswa dalam memecahkan masalah matematika ditinjau dari kemampuan matematika siswa. Jenis penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah tes kemampuan matematika (TKM), tes pemecahan masalah (TPM), dan pedoman wawancara. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 3 Merauke yang dipilih berdasarkan kemampuan matematika siswa yakni kemampuan tinggi, sedang, dan rendah. Dari ketiga kategori kemampuan tersebut, dipilih masing-masing 2 siswa yang mewakili masing-masing setiap kategori, yaitu siswa JM dan AE mewakili kemampuan tinggi, siswa CA dan EM mewakili kemampuan sedang, siswa AP dan ID mewakili kemampuan rendah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: 1) siswa dengan kemampuan matematika tinggi digolongkan pada tingkat metakognisi “strategic use”, dalam memecahkan masalah matematika; 2) Siswa dengan kemampuan matematika sedang digolongkan pada tingkat metakognisi “aware use”, dalam memecahkan masalah matematika; 3) Siswa dengan kemampuan matematika rendah digolongkan pada tingkat metakognisi “tacit use”, dalam memecahkan masalah matematika.This study aims to differentiate the level of students' metacognition in solving mathematical problems in terms of students' mathematical abilities. This research type is a descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The instruments used in this study were the math ability test (TKM), problem solving test (TPM), and interview guidelines. The subjects of this study were class VIII students of SMP Negeri 3 Merauke who were selected based on students' mathematical abilities, namely high, medium, and low abilities. From the three ability categories, 2 students were selected to represent each category, namely JM and AE students representing high abilities, CA and EM students representing medium abilities, AP and ID students representing low abilities. The results showed that: 1) students with high mathematical abilities were classified at the "strategic use" level of metacognition, in solving mathematical problems; 2) Students with moderate mathematical abilities are classified at the metacognition level of "aware use", in solving mathematical problems; 3) Students with low mathematical ability are classified at the level of metacognition "tacit use", in solving mathematical problems
ANALISIS BIBLIOMETRIK TREN RISET GLOBAL TENTANG PENERAPAN SOFTWARE MATEMATIKA MENGGUNAKAN BASIS DATA SCOPUS
Keberlanjutan dalam pendidikan terus berkembang, yang pada gilirannya menciptakan sudut pandang penelitian yang mampu memberikan peluang interaksi yang lebih besar antara sekolah dengan lingkungannya. Penerapan software matematika dalam pendidikan adalah salah satu bentuk usaha untuk memastikan keberlanjutan pendidikan. Studi ini mengidentifikasi penelitian terkait penerapan software matematika yang dapat memberikan perspektif global ke dalam pembelajaran, dan pengembangan penelitian. Oleh karena itu analisis bibliometrik dilakukan untuk mengidentifikasi total 542 artikel jurnal antara tahun 2010 hingga 2023 dengan menggunakan informasi yang diambil dari database Scopus. Penelitian ini membahas dua isu: (i) tinjauan lintasan pertumbuhan studi terkait penerapan software matematika; dan (ii) pemetaan antar tema untuk mengidentifikasi kesenjangan dan topik yang paling penting. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa lintasan studi dimediasi oleh dampak pembatasan sosial sebagai akibat dari Covid-19. Topik utama dan kesenjangan penelitian dibahas. Beberapa implikasi disajikan sebagai informasi yang berguna bagi para ilmuwan dan pemangku kepentingan.Education is constantly evolving and creating research points of view. This development is able to provide opportunities for greater interaction between schools and their environment. The application of mathematical software in education is a form of effort to ensure the sustainability of education. This study identifies research related to the application of mathematics software that can provide a global perspective into learning, and research development. Therefore bibliometric analysis was carried out to identify a total of 542 journal articles between 2010 and 2023 using information taken from the Scopus database. This research addresses two issues: (i) reviewing the growth trajectory of studies related to the application of mathematical software; and (ii) mapping between themes to identify gaps and the most important topics. The results of the analysis show that the study trajectory is mediated by the impact of social restrictions as a result of Covid-19. Key topics and research gaps are discussed. Several implications are presented as useful information for scientists and stakeholders
LITERASI MATEMATIKA SISWA GAYA KOGNITIF FIELD DEPENDENT DAN FIELD INDEPENDENT DALAM MENYELESAIKAN SOAL TRIGONOMETRI
Studi pendahuluan yang dilakukan peneliti membuktikan bahwa siswa belum mampu menerapkan konsep, prosedur, fakta dan alat-alat matematika. Hal ini mengakibatkan rendahnya literasi matematika contohnya dalam menerapkan rancangan model matematika. Penelitian. ini bertujuan untuk memperoleh deskripsi literasi matematika tipe gaya kognitif field independent (FD) dan field dependent (FI) pada siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal trigonometri. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 4 siswa kelas X SMA Negeri 1 Srengat terdiri dari kuat lemahnya kategori gaya kognitif field independent dan field dependent. Instrumen pada penelitian ini menggunakan lembar wawancara dan lembar tes yang terdiri dari GEFT dan tes literasi matematika. Analisis tes literasi matematika mengacu pada indikator dari tiga tahapan literasi matematika yang dikembangkan dari OECD (2021) yaitu merumuskan (formulate), menggunakan (employ), interpretasi (interprete). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) subjek FD lemah (FDL) mampu memenuhi satu tahapan literasi matematika merumuskan (formulate); (2) subjek FD kuat (FDK) mampu pada satu tahapan literasi matematika merumuskan (formulate); (3) subjek FI lemah (FIL) mampu menguasai ketiga tahapan literasi matematika dengan tahapan menggunakan (employ) konsep perbandingan trigonometri; (4) subjek FI kuat (FIK) mampu menguasai ketiga tahapan literasi matematika dengan tahapan menggunakan (employ) konsep aturan sinus dalam segitiga sebarang. A preliminary study conducted by researchers proved that students were not yet able to apply mathematical concepts, procedures, facts and tools. This results in low mathematical literacy, for example in implementing mathematical model plans. This research aims to obtain a description of mathematical literacy types of Field Independent (FD) and Field Dependent (FI) cognitive styles in students in solving trigonometry problems. The subjects of this research were 4 class X students of SMA Negeri 1 Srengat consisting of strong and weak categories of Field Independent and Field Dependent cognitive styles. The instruments in this research used interview sheets and test sheets consisting of GEFT and mathematical literacy tests. The analysis of the mathematics literacy test refers to indicators from the three stages of mathematics literacy developed by OECD (2021), namely formulating, employing, interpreting. The results of the research show that: (1) weak FD (FDL) subjects are able to fulfill one stage of formulating mathematical literacy; (2) strong FD subjects (FDK) are able to formulate at one stage of mathematical literacy; (3) weak FI (FIL) subjects are able to master the third stage of mathematical literacy with the stage of using (using) the concept of trigonometric comparisons; (4) Strong FI (FIK) subjects are able to master the third stage of mathematical literacy with the stage of using (using) the concept of the sine rule in any triangle
