The Ultimate Academic Planner
Get PDFThe purpose of this project was to research the benefits of planners, and different techniques to organize information in ways that seem reasonable and manageable, with the intent of supporting students in self regulation at Bridgewater College. Planners are very popular forms of organization but in a world of technology, are they still valid? This study focuses on the benefits of using a planner and more importantly a paper planner. In this project, I researched the importance of self-regulation, the benefits of using a planner, techniques for organization and retention, and surveyed the population of Bridgewater College. Self-regulation is a big part of education in elementary or secondary schools, but in college it is not a topic that is discussed much. But, self-regulation skills are needed, possibly even more so in college because of new independence, big life changes, and most importantly, because students are paying for their studies. If a planner can help academic success, how and what do students need to make agendas more accessible? After research, it became clear that there are benefits to using a paper planner and in my project, I compiled my information in the form of a planner that is personalized by Bridgewater College students. I hope to find more techniques to give access to students who need a tool for organization and success in their classes and in college
Coach and Athlete Perceptions of the Effects of the Menstrual Cycle on Female Athletic Performance

Recommendations for coaches based on the findings of the research are provided. The study investigates whether female athletes and their coaches are aware of the physiological and psychological effects of the menstrual cycle and how they are managed throughout the course of a sport season

Pressure Profiles from Improved Noise Quantification
No full textWe present pressure profiles of galaxy clusters determined by high resolution Sunyeav-Zel\u27dovich (SZ) observations from the MUSTANG-2 Bolometer on the Green Bank Telescope. We are particularly interested in studying the galaxy cluster RXJ 1347 that presents a cluster shock feature. We introduce a change in technique from previous papers where we no longer assume the noise to be independent. To account for this change, we look at the covariance matrix of a noise map for each cluster and implement that into our model. We take both of these models and construct non-parametric fits to create electron pressure profiles. This electron pressure was solved for in terms of the Compton parameter, y. We then looked at the change in electron pressure before and after the shock in order to calculate the Mach number. This tells us how quickly a portion of the cluster was moving. We did this with two different models for pressure profiles. One binned the map in terms of angle and radius, separating the shock from the rest of the cluster. The other model binned the map radially, but also fit for shape, taking into account the shock. We compared these results with each other and values from the literature and found a Mach number of 1.36 , which agrees with literature values

The Low Countries at War: Responses of the Benelux Monarchs to Nazi Occupation
No full textIn May of 1940, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg were quickly overrun by Nazi forces. While the Low Countries had each promised neutrality should a wider European war break out, Hitler and his generals dismissed these declarations due to their avaricious demand for territory and wider plans towards invasion of France. As such, the Low Countries were invaded in a surprise attack that saw them each capitulate within days despite resistance by their own militaries. In this chaos the monarchies of Belgium (King Leopold III), the Netherlands (Queen Wilhelmina), and Luxembourg (Grand Duchess Charlotte) were each left with a difficult choice. On one hand, they had the opportunity to remain in their occupied countries alongside their subjects and soldiers, which was similar to the circumstances of the French government based in Vichy. On the other, the monarchs could have fled to the relative safety of Britain to manage their governments-in-exile more effectively and to encourage their countrymen to resist Axis aggression whenever possible through propaganda broadcasts. This project examines each of the Benelux monarch\u27s responses to the occupation of their respective realms as well as their activities in exile or captivity
