Write Like the Character: A New Take on Using Mentor Text to Support Writing
Get PDFWriting is a complex process that requires the orchestration of cognitive, social, and emotional processes. This analysis explores ways to help our students navigate the complexities of becoming a writer by expanding the use of mentor texts to include an examination of characters who write, modeling the real challenges and rewards associated with becoming a writer. The themes identified within the selected mentor texts focus on finding encouragement and inspiration to write from others, making sense of the world through personal writing, and discovering one\u27s voice and identity as a writer. By extending our use of mentor texts, we help our students learn to overcome their fears of writing, learn to take risks, and find their voice and identity as writers
An Exploration of the Available Services for Offenders with Mental Illness (OMI)
Get PDFThe study is an exploration of services available for offenders with mental illness (OMI) and obstacles to providing treatment. It aims to identify services and obstacles to delivering treatment for offenders with mental health and substance use disorders in Augusta and Rockingham Counties. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with representatives of local agencies. Based on the agencies interviewed, services for OMI vary across the Sequential Intercept Model, with services like Crisis Intervention Teams, Medication-Assisted Treatment, and supervisory housing. Participants reported that despite the variation in services, barriers in infrastructure due to poor funding, low staffing, and lack of housing were present. Additionally, participants faced challenges with offender utilization because of anosognosia—a disorder that affects an individual\u27s ability to recognize they have a disorder and need treatment. To address these barriers, it is necessary to increase funding and raise awareness about these individuals\u27 challenges and substance use as a mental illness

It explores the benefits and drawbacks of AI in HR recruiting and scheduling by comparing traditional methods with AI-driven approaches. While traditional recruitment practices, such as in-person interviews and resume evaluations, are effective, they often limit access to a broader candidate pool. AI can streamline these processes, enhancing efficiency, provided human oversight exists to mitigate biases and ensure accuracy.
Through a comprehensive literature review, this study reveals varying degrees of AI adoption across organizations and highlights its dual impact: increased productivity alongside ethical and employment-related concerns. The article evaluates the effectiveness of traditional HR practices compared to AI-enhanced approaches, particularly how AI has transformed the hiring process by utilizing keyword recognition to streamline resume screening. This efficiency allows HR professionals to allocate more time to strategic roles. However, the reliance on AI for resume evaluation raises significant concerns, leading to an exploration of ethical and legal perspectives. This research aims to provide valuable insights into the implications of AI integration, fostering a thoughtful approach to its application in HR and recruitment practices as we navigate this evolving technological landscape

The study aims to address how genetic predispositions, nurturing environments, teaching methods, and societal influences interact to shape mathematical abilities. Using insights from genetic research, cognitive psychology, and education theory, we analyze the role of effective teaching methods, such as active knowledge construction and differentiated instruction, in fostering mathematical skills. The study also examines how societal biases, particularly gender stereotypes, impact students\u27 confidence and interest in math. The findings highlight the importance of promoting gender-inclusive practices and early exposure to math-related activities to support long-term achievement. These results demonstrate the significance of creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment, contributing to the broader understanding of how both intrinsic and external factors influence mathematical competence. This study not only builds on existing literature but also opens new avenues for future research in educational equity and personalized learning strategies
