Exploring cost-effective and asymmetric alternatives to 9-BBN
Catechol borane, pinacol borane, and 9-borabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane, 9-BBN, are versatile cyclic borane (CB) hydroboration agents.1,2 The borinates/boronates obtained from their reactions with alkenes and alkynes are good candidates for various Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reactions–a very important reaction that has been used in the synthesis of multiple drugs. However, CBs do have a few drawbacks, such as the high cost of 9-BBN, and are relatively unreactive compared to their dialkylborane analogs. Furthermore, none of these boranes provides the chiral environment required for asymmetric induction by themselves.3,4 A quick survey of natural products revealed many terpene dienes such as limonene, ɑ-phellandrene, and valencene that could be used in place of cyclooctadiene with the potential of producing cheaper and possibly chiral reagents. Expanding on previous findings that exhibit 2-BBN’s reducing capabilities after hydroboration with BDMS and limonene, the purpose of this project is to (1) examine CBs from other terpenes, primarily (-)-ɑ-phellandrene, with diene functionalities for utility as 9-BBN alternatives and (2) effectively scale-up and isolate the hydroborated diene 9-BBN analog for simplification of future reduction reactions, where (3) in the case of a successful reduction with a CB, asymmetric induction may be examined and optimized
An Evaluation of Promotional Tools: Trends and Practices
It is generally acknowledged that marketers achieve promotion objectives through the optimal use of Advertising, Sales Promotion, Direct Marketing, Personal Selling, the Internet, and Social Media. Nevertheless, there is a widespread misconception when it comes to comprehending what promotion entails. Moreover, the distinction between various promotional tools, including their individual merits and demerits, remains largely underappreciated. Thus, to address this knowledge gap, the current study employed secondary data along with qualitative interviews to examine the application and effectiveness of various promotional tools across different communication contexts. The findings present a rich analysis and description of specific promotional tools, including Advertising, Sales promotion, Direct marketing, Social media, and Personal selling. Furthermore, the study findings revealed how marketers employ specific communication channels, including broadcast media, print media, and support media, to deliver promotion campaigns that boost sales and positive brand awareness. Finally, this study contributes to both theoretical and managerial knowledge by providing a greater understanding of promotion and promotional tools while offering guidance to managers on how they best employ strategic promotional planning to succeed in business
Shepherds of Loss: Religion and Grief in the Shenandoah Valley
This study explores the relationship between faith leaders and religious communities with the human experience of grief, death, and loss. Inspired by the researcher\u27s own experience, this paper argues that the United States has a generally uncomfortable relationship with death and hypothesizes that religious traditions can serve to assist with grief in a positive way. After interviewing six religious leaders in the Shenandoah Valley, two themes arose: the mystery of death and the concept of making space for the grieving, dying, and dead. In the paper\u27s conclusion, the faith leaders make known their own concerns with death in the United States, and the researcher reflects on whether religion is beneficial to the death experience
