Critical Discourse Analysis and Its Implication in English Language Teaching: A Case Study of Environmental News Text
English learners are usually taught English in university by focusing on improving learners’ language skills instead of critical aspects of language use. However, critical reading is crucial in English language learning. Critical discourse analysis (CDA) is an approach to deal with the analysis of linguistic features, and the deployment of these linguistic features in the texts can dramatically influence how humans perceive social changes. Accordingly, this study employs CDA in English Language Teaching (ELT), which aims to cultivate students’ critical thinking (CT) and critical language awareness (CLA). The present study integrated CDA into the English reading of English and Translation majors to enhance students’ critical learning. Eighteen students were chosen to attend the training workshops. Six news items were purposively selected as the reading materials for students. After the training, the study found students’ CLA increased, and students were interested in analyzing and criticizing the English language. Furthermore, students were motivated to learn English and equipped with critical thinking skills. The findings imply that deploying CDA for authentic texts (e.g., news outlets) in ELT is effective, and English language teachers can integrate it into daily teaching

The findings contribute insights for current and large firms regarding the influence of disruptive innovation, indicating that this ensures enhanced organizational performance via organizational innovation capability. More importantly, the study also increases the knowledge of disruptive innovation, informing predictions and assisting decision-makers involved in generating firms’ competitive advantages
AI- and Employee-Based Customer Services in Restaurants: Customer Engagement Leading to Loyalty During the Covid-19 Pandemic
This study aims to examine the extent to which customers’ perceptions of AI and employee services evaluations, influence their engagement with restaurant service delivery, which in turn drives customer loyalty during the COVID-19 pandemic. Data were gathered from 527 respondents via an onsite survey from restaurants providing both AI and human staff services. A partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) technique was used to formulate hypotheses and develop the model. The results of this study contrast with previous research which states that customers tend to appreciate AI services rather than human staff. The AI-based service performance value and trust in the AI-based service and system had a strong effect on customer engagement, whereas employee-based service support significantly explained substantial variance in customer engagement. Interestingly, customer engagement with AI-based services had a negative impact on loyalty. While customer engagement with employee-based services had a positive impact, this impact was not significant with regard to loyalty. One possible explanation for this result is that restaurant businesses preferred to use AI-based services that replaced human-based services in order to provide contactless options during the COVID-19 outbreak. Additionally, restaurant image positively moderates the link between service evaluation and customer engagement with AI service and negatively moderates the effects of service evaluation on customer engagement with employee services
Systematic Literature Review: The Use of SEM in Journal of Travel & Tourism Marketing (JTTM) Between 2020 – 2022
The aim of this study was to categorize and analyze the patterns of structural equation modeling (SEM) used in research in the travel and tourism industry, published in the journal of travel & tourism marketing (JTTM) between 2020 and 2022. This review seeks to provide an updated literature overview and identify gaps in the literature relevant to future research by employing the systematic literature review (SLR) method. The findings of the study indicate that factor-based SEM has been more frequently used compared to composite-based SEM. However, for future research, there should be more emphasis on composite-based SEM, particularly utilizing techniques such as integrated generalized structured component analysis (IGSCA) and partial least square consistent structural equation modeling (PLSc-SEM). These methods are hybrid techniques that can analyze both factor and composite variables within the same model. Additionally, this study has categorized research in the travel and tourism industry into eight major themes: 1) destination, 2) attraction, 3) hotel/resort, 4) airline, 5) restaurant, 6) social media, 7) festival/event, and 8) travel agency. For future research, there should be a focus on the festival/event and travel agency themes, as there is a relatively limited body of research within these themes
Assessing the Influence of Differentiated Instruction on Enhancing Reading Comprehension Skills among Learners: A Quasi-Experimental Study
This quasi-experimental study aimed to investigate the impact of Differentiated Instruction (DI) on the reading comprehension skills of 30 Grade Eleven Academic Strand Learners. Using a pretest-posttest design, the research assessed the effects of DI on reading comprehension levels before and after treatment. The experimental group, comprising 30 participants, received DI, while the control group of 30 participants underwent traditional classroom instruction. It is essential to note that participants primarily used English as their second language (L2), and the research was conducted in the Philippines. The quasi-experimental design involved the pretest-posttest control group with matched subjects, utilizing reading comprehension passages with corresponding difficulty levels. Assessment tools included the Informal Reading Inventory (IRI) standardized test, adapted from Jerry Johns Basic Inventory (2008), and the Checklist of Intelligence Strengths (Armstrong, 2009) for determining participants' learning preferences. Descriptive statistics, including means and standard deviations, evaluated comprehension levels. The researcher employed t-tests for independent and correlated samples to test the relationship between variables, with a significance level set at .05 alpha. Findings indicated that learners undergoing Differentiated Instruction achieved a Middle High School Level of comprehension, while those in Traditional Classroom Instruction reached only a Sixth-level comprehension. The study underscored DI's positive impact on developing learners' reading comprehension skills, enhancing their interests and enthusiasm for better understanding. Importantly, integrating learners' preferences in Differentiated Instruction proved effective in fostering motivation and performance, shaping competitive, skillful, and knowledgeable 21st-Century Learners
