Improving Teachers’ Readiness for Change Through Social-technical Organization Development Interventions: An Action Research Study of Beijing Polytechnic in China
The research aims to investigate the impact of Social-technical Organization Intervention, which is based on the modified GROWEF model, on Perceived Usefulness (PF), Performance Feedback (PF), and Intention to Use (ITU) to improve teachers’ readiness for change during the implementation of the comprehensive evaluation system based on big data in Beijing Polytechnic. The modified GROWEF model included Goal Setting, Reality Check, Options Exploration, Way Forward Planning, Evaluation and Feedback. The sample consisted of 240 full-time teachers who were selected from 8 schools using stratified sampling. However, only 236 completed the questionnaire. A mixed-method methodology was used to collect data: quantitative method using questionnaire and the qualitative method using in-depth interview. As evidenced by the quantitative and qualitative data results, the Social-technical organization development interventions (ODIs) resulted in significant improvements across all variables. The findings of the modified GROWEF model ODIs indicated that (1) there are differences between the Pre- and Post- ODIs on Perceived Usefulness (PU), Performance Feedback (PF), Intention to Use (ITU) and (2) there was a significant difference between pre- and post- ODIs on teachers’ Readiness for Change (RFC), and (3) Perceived Usefulness (PU), Performance Feedback (PF) significantly impacted teachers’ Readiness for Change (RFC) and Intention to Use (ITU) as the mediator enhanced the influence of the independent variables (PU, PF) on the dependent variable (RFC).
The Convergence of the COVID-19 Pandemic and EFL Writing Pedagogy: The Paradigm Shift
In the academic context in the COVID-19 era, learning, once traditionally taking place in the classroom, has been changed to be driven online. This happens in all fields of study, including the writing pedagogy. Even in the post-pandemic, its influence can still be witnessed in forms of online or digital learning via various communication platforms such as ZOOM or Webex Meetings. However, though this phenomenon sparks a surprising educational transformation as being discussed in diverse articles across different disciplines, its silver linings, positively affecting writing pedagogy, specifically in the EFL writing instruction context, can be recognized though they come with great challenges as being reviewed. To be aware of these issues, this academic article aims to raise this topic as a paradigm shift of EFL writing pedagogy, particularly in higher education by virtue of the COVID-19 pandemic. In so doing, the novel EFL writing pedagogy frameworks, its new feedback regime, and its triangular dimensions are introduced and discussed for long-term practical pedagogical implications, especially after the pandemic legend in the digital era
DYING WITH DIGNITY AND THE ARGUMENT FROM CONSCIENCE
This paper examines some of the arguments in favor of and against “mercy killing”. Euthanasia is defined as the voluntary or involuntary killing of a terminally ill human being suffering from unbearable pain and intolerable suffering. Literally, euthanasia means “good death” or “dying with dignity.” But the argument for mercy killing hides under the ill motive of emancipating oneself the burden of having to bear a life that appears meaningless. This inquiry argues that such a position is morally unacceptable since it violates life itself. But the reason this paper puts forward is not based on the stewardship argument, one that says life is sacred. The stewardship argument is weak compared to the “right to die” advanced by liberal philosophers. As an alternative, the “argument from conscience”, which puts emphasis on recognizing the moral mistake of reducing the value of human life into something that is instrumentalist, is proposed. James Rachels’s utilitarian argument for mercy killing seeks to diminish the suffering in the world. But what it hides is that it actually mistreats human life as something that is quantifiable. The argument from conscience is a humanist position that is grounded in the love and attention for the dying

Purpose: This study aims to investigate the factors influencing the behavioral intention and usage behavior of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) among adult students in higher education. The proposed conceptual framework includes variables such as perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, subjective norms, performance expectation, intrinsic motivation, behavioral intention, and usage behavior. Research design, data, and methodology: The researcher employed a quantitative method, distributing questionnaires to a sample of 500 adult students in higher education in Chongqing. The study utilized purposive, stratified random, and convenience sampling techniques for both online and offline data collection. The collected data were analyzed using structural equation modeling and confirmatory factor analysis to derive meaningful insights. Results: The findings indicate that perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, subjective norms, performance expectation, and intrinsic motivation significantly influence behavioral intention, with performance expectation having the strongest impact and perceived ease of use having the weakest impact. Furthermore, behavioral intention was found to significantly impact usage behavior. Conclusions: The study confirmed six hypotheses aligned with the research objectives. As a result, it is recommended that colleges and universities focus on enhancing adult students' performance expectations in MOOC teaching to achieve better educational outcomes
An Analysis of the Factors Impacting Satisfaction and Continued Intention to Use Digital Library: A Case Study of Universities in Chongqing, China
Purpose: This study explores the influencing factors of students’ satisfaction and to continued intention to use digital libraries in Chongqing. This study proposes a causal relationship between system quality, perceived ease of use, usefulness, confirmation, information quality, satisfaction, and continued intention. Research design, data, and methods: This study used a quantitative method (n=500) to conduct a questionnaire survey among postgraduates from several universities in Chongqing. The researchers used judgmental, quota, and convenience sampling to collect data in the study. In order to ensure the reliability and reliability, Item-Objective Congruence (IOC), and Cronbach's Alpha method were adopted. Structural Equation Model (SEM) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) were used for data analysis, including model fitting, reliability, and validity. Results: The findings reveal that system quality, perceived ease of use, and information quality exert a substantial influence on satisfaction. Moreover, satisfaction plays a significant role in determining continued intention. However, it's noteworthy that neither usefulness nor confirmation exhibits a significant impact on satisfaction. Conclusion: The research shows that universities should continuously improve the quality of digital library services, systems, and resources, improve the management level, serve the training of postgraduates, and enhance students' satisfaction and continuous use intention
Organization Development Interventions (ODI) on Employee Turnover Intention at AAA Hotel, Thailand
The purpose of the research was to investigate the impact of an organization development intervention on turnover intention at a hotel in Thailand. The research was conducted from December 2023 to January 2024 at AAA Hotel, a medium-sized hotel attached to a conference center in Bangkok. AAA Hotel has strategically targeted a reduced turnover rate. Having seen success with its initial changes, it would like to build on these improvements. The research was situated in five hotel departments with the highest turnover, and it sampled 125 of the approximately 200 staff members at the hotel. The research investigated five key variables, including job satisfaction, employee motivation, performance management, organizational commitment, and turnover intention. An appreciative inquiry approach to intervention was used, with interventions including job-building workshops, individual career discussions, implementation of employee recognition and short-term reward programs, and team-building activities. Data was collected using pre- and post-intervention surveys, along with interviews. Survey data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, regression, and paired t-tests, while interview data was analyzed using content analysis. Quantitative findings showed that job satisfaction, employee motivation, performance management, and organizational commitment were significantly higher post-intervention, while turnover intention was significantly lower. Qualitative findings showed that employees were positive about the changes but still concerned with a lack of career progression. Furthermore, the qualitative findings revealed that employees did not find many opportunities within the organization, and while this did improve over the course of the intervention there were still limited opportunities seen. During the interventions, reasons why employees chose to leave AAA hotel were revealed, including a perception that there was a lack of career progression opportunities and in some roles, there was limited autonomy to make even small decisions. Thus, despite the optimistic view given by the quantitative findings, there are clearly still issues that remain for AAA Hotel, which need to be addressed in further organizational change processes. The research concluded that the changes implemented during the intervention were positive, but that there were additional changes needed to cement these gains. Further techno-structural interventions were recommended to the hotel.
