The study identifies types of small scale foundry enterprises operating in Lagos State and also assesses their development and sustainability. Data for the study were obtained from thirty (30) selected small scale foundry enterprises in Lagos and randomly sampled one hundred and fifty (150) of their consumers using questionnaire, focus group discussion (FGD) and Key informant Interview (KII). Data was analyzed using simple frequency method, statistical package of social sciences (SPSS) and qualitative analysis from the FGD and KII. The study revealed that the majority of the foundry enterprises jobbing foundries. The management strategy of the enterprises in terms of reliability (2.11), product and service quality (2.29), and business relationship with consumers (2.09) were satisfactory. Overall ranking shows erratic power supply, flooding market with imported goods, difficulty in obtaining raw materials, flooding the market with imported goods, low linkage between the knowledge institution and the industry, policy discontinuity as factors that highly affect the development of the foundry enterprises. It was concluded that most foundries in Lagos State in Nigeria are jobbing foundries and the remaining few are production foundries. Also, the rate of development of the foundry sector in Nigeria is very low. It was recommended that government policy continuity, provision of soft loan to foundry entrepreneurs, stable power supply, availability of raw materials at low cost, improving the linkage between the knowledge institution and the industry would enhance the development and sustainability of the small scale foundry enterprises in Nigeria
Perceived Roles of Skills in Growth and Transformation of Ready Made Garments and Pharmaceutical Industries in Bangladesh: Results from an Industry Survey
This article examines the contribution of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs to growth and transformation in the Ready Made Garments (RMG) and Pharmaceutical industries in Bangladesh as perceived by the industries through a company survey with 100 RMG and 61 Pharmaceuticals. It identifies a missing link between skill development through TVET and the needs of industry in Bangladesh. Results show that, with the exception of pre-employment TVET for technicians and higher management, on average less than 20% of the companies had workers with pre- and in-employment TVET across all occupational levels. This indicates that TVET providers better fulfil the needs of industry for a smaller number of employees at mid- and higher management level compared to TVET for large numbers of employees at lower levels of general workers, operators and supervisors. It concludes that establishing strong collaboration and partnerships between government, industry and TVET institutions is necessary to harness human resources for employment and development through the world of work
Assessment of Public-Private-Participation of Solid Waste Management: A Case Study Warri, Nigeria
The menace of indiscriminately disposed heaps of refuse in most urban centers in Nigeria is a confirmation of the inability of the government to cope with the ills associated with rapid population growth rate and urbanization. This study assessed the participation of the private sector in the management and recycling of solid wastes as they together with the public sector strive to attain healthy and neat cities. The Actor Network Theory (ANT) was used as a framework to illustrate the interrelationship, interdependence and co-existence of the different participants in the management of solid waste. This co-existence was revealed to generate several challenges especially for the major Actors such as that of the preference of informal private waste collectors to the registered contractors assigned by the government to their residential areas and the hindrances posed by community youth on Private Sector Participant (PSP). However, from the study it was revealed that the introduction of Private Sector Participant was not enough to check the problems associated with solid waste management. Rather, a holistic approach where all actors, whether householders, formal or informal waste collector, scrap collectors, NGOs or CBOs should be considered by the Government in the policy formulation and implementation in sustainable solid waste management practices
Impact of CSR on Firm Value: The Moderating Role of Corporate Governance
This study aims to investigate whether the corporate governance (CG) moderates the link between corporate social responsibility (CSR) and firm value (FV). For this purpose, anatomization was conducted by extracting data from the published annual reports of non-financial firms listed on the Pakistan Stock Exchange. Correlation, regression, and moderation analyses were conducted to obtain the statistical outcomes. The results showed a significant direct relationship between CSR and firm performance. Additionally, it was found that the interactivity between CSR and FV weakened when CG was included as a moderator. The results of this study could be used by stakeholders to make economically sound decisions since it provides complete guidance regarding how to engage in productive CSR activities. Moreover, this study contributes to future research by examining the association between CSR and FV using CG as a moderator, in a market where, as in other developing markets, this relationship has not been the focus of research. Apart from its theoretical contributions, this study explores the role of CG as moderator, in line with research conducted in under-developed markets, which may be considered a significant contribution
Predictors of Seasonal Flood Control in Owode Yewa, Ogun State, Nigeria
The increasing challenges of seasonal flood pose serious threat to lives and properties of citizens. This is a major concern for residents in an uncontrolled environment like Owode town in Ogun State. The current study examined a linkage between land use planning and flood control in Owode town. Utilizing a systematic sampling technique, a structured questionnaire was administered to 191 household heads in the study area. The data was analysed with logit Regression model and Marginal Effects at 5% level of significance. The result points out the significance of good road network (Beta= 0.056; p = 0.008) better drainage system (Beta= 0.024; p = 0.000), planned environment (Beta= 0.023; p = 0.000), and public awareness (Beta= 0.016; p = 0.011) as land use planning measures to completely stop flood occurrences in Owode town. Thus, an integration of these measures can sustainably reduce flood risk in flood prone towns like Owode. The study therefore recommends the need for government to re-evaluate its environmental policies to control both human activities and natural habitats
The Attitudes of High School Students Studying in Sports High Schools in Turkey toward Addictive Substances
The aim of this study is to reveal the attitudes of students, who study in sports high schools in Turkey, toward addictive substances. The study group consisted of 326 randomly selected students from Elazig, Erzincan and Malatya Sports High Schools. In order to obtain the data from the research group, the Attitude toward Addictive Substances Scale, consisting of 45 items, was used. The data obtained from 326 students were analyzed in SPSS 22 Package software. Firstly, normality analysis was performed and it was decided to perform parametric and non-parametric tests according to the results. There was a statistically significant difference in age and class variables of the students. There was no statistically significant difference between the variables of gender, monthly income of the family and educational status of the parents. As a result of the study, it was observed that male and female students' attitudes toward addiction increased as age and class levels progressed. In this context, more attention should be paid to education-oriented studies to prevent addiction. It is suggested that educational activities, such as psychological support and health programs, provided by guidance teachers and psychological counselors should be increased in number

Socio-Economic Implication of Political and Economic Participation of Women in Nigeria
This paper examined social-economic impacts of economic and political empowerment of women in Nigeria between 1990–2018. To achieve our main objective, we employed a trend analysis and ARDL technique with data sourced from the WDI (2019) and various issues of National Bureau of Statistics. We observed that the growth of women (between age 15 and 64) in labour force participation in Nigeria is trending downwardly during the period under consideration. While the proportion of female representation in the parliament has been on the increase since the advent of the fourth Republic in 1999. Finally, we unsurprisingly, discovered that despite the huge resources committed to advocacy for women’s empowerment, the social costs in terms of the increased crime rate among youth and the level of insecurity in the country significantly overwhelmed the economic benefits in term of increased economic growth. Consequently, we inter alia recommended that the governments together with these advocacy groups should channel the same amount of resources devoted to campaigns for women empowerment into reversing the ugly trend of juvenile delinquency if the level of insecurity in Nigeria is to be curtailed. And, the proposed bill by the National Assembly and the 36 state Houses of Assemblies to increase the maternity leave from its current level of 3 months to 6 months should be fast-track and duly implemented across board in both public and private organizations
Robotics in Education: Examining Information Technology Teachers’ Views
This study examining the robotic codings and robotic tournaments from the perspectives of Information Technology (IT) teachers was carried out using the qualitative case study method. In the study, a total of 20 teachers from private schools and state schools were asked for their views. The research data collected from the IT teachers helped determine the advantages and limitations of robotic coding and robotic tournaments. The results revealed that the IT teachers generally reported positive views about robotic coding and robotic tournaments. In addition, the teachers reported that robotic coding activities arose the students’ curiosity and attention. As for the negative aspects, the teachers thought that students had to perform the tasks in a very limited time; that there was no equality between the materials owned; that the environment was encouraging; that the juries did not act objectively during the scoring phase; and that the tournaments served for corporate advertising. Consequently, it was found that the students achieved active learning with the help of the robotic coding trainings and tournaments, which increased their motivations
Indonesian Implicit Leadership Theory: Typical and Positive Leadership Prototypes for Indonesian Millennials
Leadership studies in Indonesia tend to discuss the way leadership affects individual attitudes and behavior as well as team effectiveness. However, a more contextual and recent approach study in understanding leadership remains underdeveloped. As a preliminary, this study aims to explore the concept of Indonesia’s leadership based on local perspectives by taking into account Implicit Leadership Theory. Data were gathered by involving 404 millennials (63,6% female, 36,4% male) using an open-ended question namely “Describe three characteristics of a leader” and two scales asking participants’ perception about how typical and effective each leaders’ characteristic count for leadership. A total of 1159 responses were analyzed using thematic analysis and demonstrated four characteristics depicting prototypes of leaders namely moral (41,07%), generally-competent (29,42%), charismatic (20,79%), conscientious (8,71%). A one-way ANOVA was also conducted to compare the effect of leader’s prototypes on perception of typicality and effectiveness of leadership. There was a significant effect of leadership prototypes on perception of typical leadership at the p<.05 level for the three conditions for each of perception about how typical and effective the prototypes reflect leadership. However, at the level of prototypes, no differences were found in perceiving which prototypes were considered as more typical and effective. The descriptive scores of each prototype indicates all of the prototypes were perceived as high in reflecting typicality and effectiveness in leadership. In conclusion, all leadership prototypes emerged from the responses were perceived as both typical and effective by the participants
