Market Giants vs. Dwarfs: New Zealand’s Perspective on Environmental Reporting
This paper examines New Zealand listed firms’ compliance with Global Reporting Initiative- environmental reporting standards (GRI 300) and the impact of environmental reporting determinants on the level of sustainability reporting. The author collected data from annual and sustainability reports of the top and bottom 30 firms listed on the New Zealand Stock Exchange (NZX). The author then conducted content analysis to measure the extent of each firm’s environmental reporting score. The study findings indicate that large firms report only one-thirds of the relevant information, whereas small firms neither adopt international reporting frameworks nor report on the environment. Additionally, we found that firm size and profitability are positively associated with the extent of environmental reporting in New Zealand, whereas industry-specific differences play a minor role. This study further finds that firms, which explicitly referred to the “Global Reporting Initiatives” or “GRI” terms in their annual or sustainability reports, outperformed in environmental reporting compared with those that did not. This study uses GRI 300 standards to assess the level of environmental reporting of each firm. Finally, the study compares environmental reporting practices between top and bottom-listed firms in New Zealand. The findings emphasize the desirability of making the environment reporting mandatory in all companies to ensure the New Zealand Government’s latest enforcement of climate risk reporting
Chief Executive Officer Duality, Nationality and Firms’ Growth Opportunities
Corporate governance mechanisms highlight the invaluable role of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in the affairs of an organization. The nexus between CEO characteristics and firm performance is not mute in the literature and mixed findings have also been presented. This study deviates from previous studies by focusing on the impact of CEO attributes on growth opportunities of the firm. Accordingly, this paper analysed duality and nationality of CEO on firms’ growth opportunities against the backdrop of national culture and societal values. To this end, secondary data of 76 non-financial firms listed on the Nigerian Exchange Group from 2010- 2019 were analyzed. Various diagnostic tests for panel data unit root were conducted. The result of the robust panel data analysis revealed that both CEO duality and nationality have negative but insignificant relationship with firms’ growth opportunities. Clearly, the CEO attributes examined do not wield significant influence in diminishing growth opportunities
Food Service Provision Status and Patients’ Satisfaction at Selected Government Hospitals in Ethiopia
The daily provision of hospital patients’ nutritional food dietary intake is still a major problem at the majority of government hospitals found in Ethiopia. this leads to increased recovery time, morbidity, and mortality of lives. This cross-sectional study was designed to investigate the current status and functioning of the health facility concerning daily dietary food provision for patients under health care treatments for various health reasons. The main objective of this assessment was to generate evidence-based information on the current status and functioning of the health facility concerning daily dietary food provision for patients under health treatments for various health problems. A cross-sectional design, with a mixed-method approach (both qualitative and quantitative methods), was conducted from February to May 2019. The qualitative data were collected from key informants and quantitative data were collected through a structured questionnaire. The mean age of the participants was 37.35 (±16.59) and overall, 74.75% of the targeted populations were not satisfied with the food prepared at hospitals and 13.00% of them had no idea about the food prepared for the patients. Insufficient budget allocation, unskilled manpower, and less attention to hospital nutritional foods were common problems among the 13 governmental hospitals. The nutritional food services offered to hospital patients should be improved
Role of Emotional Intelligence in Dyadic Adjustment of Married Couples
This study aims to investigate the relationship between emotional intelligence and dyadic adjustment of married individuals. It was hypothesized, that there will be a significant positive relationship of emotional intelligence with dyadic adjustment of married individuals. This study employed a quantitative correlation survey research design. The sample of this study consisted of married individuals (N = 205) that were approached via purposive snowball sampling technique. The demographic shows that 138 (67.3%) participants were females while males were 67 (32.7%) and their years of marriages were from 10-50 (M= 12.97; 56 & SD=10.62).The data was collected through a google form which included informed consent, demographic information form, Schutte Self-Report Emotional Intelligence Test (SSEIT) and Revised Dyadic Adjustment Scale (RDAS). The results revealed a significant weak positive relationship of emotional intelligence with dyadic adjustment of married individuals. Furthermore, the emotional intelligence remained high as years of marriage progressed but dyadic adjustment decreased with the increase in years of marriage. This implies that emotional intelligence and years of marriage play a limited role in the dyadic adjustment of married individuals. The current findings can be utilized in the development of indigenous intervention plans for marital adjustment and conflict resolution
Microbial Quality and Sensory Properties of Ogiri Produced from Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) Seed
The aim is to study the microorganisms involved in fermentation, their occurrence and the organoleptic properties of fermented watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) seeds. The watermelon seeds were dehulled, sorted, washed and boiled for 4 hours and fermented naturally for nine days. Microorganisms isolated from the fermenting watermelon seeds were Bacillus sp, Lactococcus sp, Pediococcus sp, Streptococcus sp, Micrococcus sp and Alcaligenes ps for bacterial, while the fungi obtained were Mucor sp, Rhizopus sp, Fusarium sp, Candida sp and Saccharomyces sp. The bacterial count increased from 4 x101 cfu/mL to 1.21 x 1010 cfu/mL while fungal count also increased from 8 x 101sfu/mL to 1.2 x 109sfu/mL during the period of fermentation. The pH and temperature increased from 6.3 to 8.7 and 29oC to 40oC respectively. The total titratable acidity decreased from 0.176% to 0.027%. The mean sensory characteristics value of fermented sample as scored by the panelist shows that the texture of the fermenting sample become softer as fermentation progressed. The aroma became more pungent with a strong ammonia odour responsible for the characteristic flavour and a darker colour of product. The overall acceptability of fermented sample was adjudged like very much while the sample bought from the market was adjudged like moderately

A sample of 88 participants from both universities was chosen randomly. The results showed a highly positive attitude towards Padlet as a mobile online interactive and collaborative tool. In addition, the results showed a significant difference in means of the university variables. However, there was no significant difference between the means related to gender. The study recommends training staff members on using Padlet in distance learning sessions to increase interactive and collaborative learning
Mediating Role of Teachers’ Self-Efficacy and Psychological Capital in determining Success during Learning Transition Periods in Vocational Education
Polemics on the low quality of teaching and learning outcomes during the period of transition from online to offline learning is an issue that must be addressed by vocational education institutions. This study aims to analyze the effects of retraining and teaching experience on successful learning outcomes during the transition period, either directly or through the involvement of self-efficacy and psychological capital as mediators. An ex-post-facto study that adopted a research design from Cohen, Lawrence & Keith (2011) was carried out with a sample of 247 vocational education teachers in Indonesia. Data on all variables were collected through a closed questionnaire method based on a four-point Likert-scale. The data were then analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM) analysis techniques with path analysis and bootstrap methods. The results of the study reveal that retraining and teaching experience have a significant effect on the success of learning outcomes during the transition between online and offline teaching methods in vocational education. There is a significant indirect effect of the two exogenous variables through the mediating involvement of self-efficacy and psychological capital. In Vocational education it is very important to organize the retraining that is needed among teachers to improve the quality of learning in the learning transition period, in addition to providing more teaching experiences to strengthen self-efficacy and provide sufficient psychological capital so that the quality of learning outcomes can be enhanced and sustained
Money Supply Movement and Food Inflation in Nigeria
Among the major macroeconomic objectives of any nation is to ensure higher economic growth without significant and persistent upward trend in the general price level. No wonder monetary authorities do emphasis low inflation-output growth. In Nigeria, all efforts of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to achieve single digits inflation over the years have been abortive. Against this background, this paper examines the impact of money supply on food inflation in Nigeria using monthly data between 1996:01 and 2021:12. The augmented Dickey-Fuller test of unit root is to check the stationary of money supply growth and food inflation. Thereafter, an autoregressive distributed lag model (ARDL) model is specified in order to capture both contemporaneous and effects of money supply on food inflation and the model is estimated using the ordinary least squares (OLS) estimation technique. The results reveal that money supply has contemporaneous effect on food inflation. No evidence of lagged effect is found. It is therefore concluded that controlling the growth in money supply is an effective measure to control food inflation
