The analysis of the economic relationship between China and Australia
Australia's economy has been significantly influenced by the economic relationship it shares with China for the last twenty years. China’s rapid expansion and appetite for natural resources have powered Australia through an export-led boom, propelling it into uncharted territory of booming wealth. But in reality, relations have experienced major bobs and weaves under recent Australian governments, with trade wars and diplomatic parries. This article looks at the complex reality of the Australia-China relationship, with China being Australia's biggest trading partner and its impacts reaching into sectors such as mining, agriculture, and services. It examines trade flows, investment trends, and strategic collaborations, highlighting areas of mutual gain, ranging from market access to tech cooperation and risks such as supply chain exposure and geopolitical volatility. Drawing on quantitative trade data, policy reviews, and economic forecasts, the analysis underscores China's indispensable influence on Australia's GDP, employment, and fiscal stability. Ultimately, the study advocates for pragmatic diplomacy to mitigate risks while maximizing benefits, offering policymakers a roadmap for sustainable economic interdependence in an era of global flux
Analysis of trade in Nigeria: The role of remittance inflows and tourism
The importance of trade in stimulating the overall production of goods and services cannot be overemphasized across the world. Trade is crucial in an economy in terms of income generation, job creation, improvement in consumption, and poverty alleviation. Apart from the significant contributions of trade to overall growth, tourism and remittance inflows to Nigeria can be relevant in explaining the dynamics of trade. Unfortunately, the effects of tourism and remittance inflows to the Nigerian economy on trade are yet to be documented in the existing literature. Therefore, this study focuses on how the aggregate effects of tourism and remittance inflows to Nigeria influence trade in the country. The objectives of this research were adequately achieved through the support of the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) estimator and time series data spanning from 1981 to 2021. The outcome of the study revealed that tourism and remittance inflows to the country have a positive and significant impact on trade. Based on the results, it is evident that tourism and remittance inflows to Nigeria are veritable channels in encouraging trade in the country. The study recommends that the government promote policies supporting remittance and tourism to achieve maximum trade performance in Nigeria through legislative instruments
ESG Rating and Firm Performance of Indonesian LQ45 Listed Companies: The Role of Female Commissioners
This study examines the impact of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) ratings and governance mechanisms on a firm's performance. The purpose of this research is to also analyze the impact of governance mechanisms on ESG. This research employs a sample of LQ45 listed companies in Indonesia from 2020 to 2023, generating 100 panel data units from 25 companies, which were analyzed using random-effects GLS regression. Documentation was used for data collection. The results indicate that ESG ratings do not provide significant evidence of influencing firm performance as measured by return on assets, return on equity, and earnings per share. The presence of a board of directors with several meetings can negatively affect firm performance. A notable finding of this study is the positive and significant impact of the female board of commissioners' composition on the firm's performance, as measured by return on assets and return on equity. The proportion of female board members also significantly impacts ESG ratings. However, only company size can significantly affect EPS. This study suggests that a female board of commissioners has a positive impact on firm performance and ESG ratings. This study extends the upper echelon theory by proving that gender diversity on boards of commissioners plays a significant role in improving a company's financial performance and ESG rating. This study highlights the role of female commissioners on ESG and company performance, emphasizing the importance of gender diversity in boards of commissioners
Industrial policy and diversification in the economic development of Kazakhstan
This paper explains the role of industrial policy and diversification in Kazakhstan. The oil and gas sector has led Kazakhstan’s economic growth. Kazakhstan’s economic growth rate has been mediocre compared with its neighbouring countries. The government pursued market-based reform, privatization, and diversification. Although it has emphasized developing agriculture and manufacturing, development in sectors other than oil and gas has not been apparent. The dominance of the extractive sector suggests the existence of the Dutch disease. After explaining industrial policy measures, this paper evaluates the role of government policy and provides policy implications for developing countries. Although the government has tried to diversify from a heavy reliance on the oil and gas sector to the agricultural and manufacturing sectors, the diversification strategy has been unsuccessful overall. Kazakhstan’s government must pay more attention to improving human capital and raising R&D expenditure. Active government policy is needed to diversify FDI inflows by sector. The government must clarify the objective of SME promotion and fiscal incentives must be finely targeted, considering industrial policy objectives. Clusters must be closely related to the overall direction of the industrial policy. The government must establish other infrastructure that may attract foreign investors to value-added industries

The need for values education programs for both pre-service teachers and in-service teachers in Vietnam
This paper investigates the perceptions of pre-service teachers and in-service teachers regarding the concept of 'values education' and the preparation of values education in professional programs in Vietnam. Furthermore, the pedagogical strategies employed by teachers in addressing values education situations in their classrooms are explored. A qualitative research design was employed, involving interviews with forty-three pre-service teachers from a university. Additionally, eighteen teachers from two different high schools were interviewed, and their teaching sessions, along with school assemblies, were observed. The findings reveal that values education is primarily understood as the instruction of living skills and moral education. There is a lack of conceptualization and knowledge regarding values education among the participants. Both pre-service teachers and in-service teachers did not receive formal values education programs during their university education, and the support provided by schools in this regard was limited. Teachers tended to integrate values education into subjects randomly and subjectively, without employing advanced strategies. Inconsistencies in implementation and challenges associated with teaching values were observed. Highlighting an urgent necessity, this article emphasizes the imperative need for values education programs tailored for both pre-service and in-service teachers in Vietnam. Can Photographs in The Sustainability Report Obfuscate Negative Environmental Issues? Evidence from Indonesia
This study aims to discover the motivation for and use of photography in sustainability reports. This study examined 267 photographs from PT Freeport Indonesia’s (PTFI) sustainability report using a content analysis approach. Photographs were interpreted according to the impression management theory. The number of environmentally related photographs had decreased, and they were displayed the least. The predominance of photographs of social activities was allegedly used by PTFI to obscure or cover up its poor environmental performance. In comparison to places and objects, photographs of people were displayed the most. Repeated images of happy people’s expressions were used as a visual rhetorical impression management technique that tapped into readers’ emotions to enhance the company’s image and legitimacy. This research has implications for companies to be more transparent in disclosing photos related to environmental issues. The social implication of this research is that people have to be more careful and critical, not just take the impression of the photos conveyed by the company. The findings of this study enlighten and raise awareness that photographs in sustainability reports are used as rhetorical and impression management tools to boost image and legitimacy
