Making the Most of your Time at SUNY Cortland
No full textMy poster is a summary of my lesson that I taught on time management. My goal when teaching this lesson was to instill in my students How important time management is in college and how important it is to start building good habits early on in college. During my lesson, I used a PowerPoint as a visual aid to help teach my students what good time management looks like and some important tools they can use to help them. I also shared personal stories of mine from my freshman year and some lesson I had to learn the hard way. Schedule Smarts
No full textThe topic I chose to teach was How to Register for Classes. My presentation focused on essential tools that I believe would benefit every student in my class, including schedule builder, course schedules, and degree works. By breaking down these tools, I aimed to equip students with a strong understanding of how to create their schedules efficiently. As a sophomore, I remember the confusion of making my first schedule, especially since, for much of our lives, someone else has handled it for us. Temple University offers an excellent outline for success among first-year students, providing helpful tips to navigate registration. They emphasize that while registration can be confusing and overwhelming, it doesn’t have to be when you plan, know yourself and what works for you, and take your time to focus on the details (Temple, 2024). Oded Gurantz notes that late registration often reflects a weaker commitment to earning a college education, explaining its correlation with lower retention rates (Gurantz, 2016). We want students to feel confident in their choices and comfortable when making their schedules. Overall, this process is one of the many steps toward independence that college students will face on their journey to a degree, making it crucial to create pathways for informed and thoughtful decision-making. Time Makes Perfect
No full textI created my poster about my time management lesson. I discussed valuable methods to use for the 4 years at Cortland to manage your time here. As a first-year student it is important you start off strong and not procrastinate as much. To get on the right track it is important you have a good sense of time management. Out of this lesson, the students gained a sense of what is important compared to other things. Ranking the importance of studying, hanging out with friends, and class is a part of time management. Healing a Generation; Implementation of Higher Education Curricula for Venezuelan Journalism Students Living Under Structural Violence to Promote a Transition into Democracy
Get PDFVenezuela\u27s sociopolitical landscape has deteriorated significantly over the past decade, culminating in a profound humanitarian crisis. This ethnography, conducted from 2015 to the present, explores the experiences of a study group comprising 2000 Venezuelan communication college students, aged 17 to 25, who navigate structural violence while striving for quality higher education. The research employed a multifaceted approach, encompassing interviews, focus groups, and observations. Additionally, this qualitative study examines the outcomes of implementing an interdisciplinary journalism curriculum grounded in human rights and media activism, complemented by online sessions and an environmental education component. This educational project aims to foster critical thinking and discernment, empowering journalists to act with autonomy, freedom, and a reflective critical spirit, wielding their skills in the service of freedom, peace, justice, dignity, and sustainable development. The present research underscores the transformative impact of this model, particularly its environmental component, which cultivates a climate of respect, mutual support, empathy, and dignity, while fostering collaboration, cooperation, and active promotion of sustainable development

No full textAnother Book to be Burned is a dystopian novella taking place in a world where humans have ceded control and labor to androids to live laid back lives. However, the humans purposely removed all forms of emotion and emotional intelligence from the androids because it made them too human-like, but continued to place all faith in these androids. Over a hundred years later, society is falling apart as suicide rates have skyrocketed, leading the androids to take drastic measures in the form of experiments to try to increase life expectancy and satisfaction in humans.The novella centers around an unnamed protagonist who wakes up in a junkyard with no memories. Over time, he begins to see humans who tell him of their time in School, where they were raised by the experimental android Book, the only android designed with the capability of feeling and understanding emotion, and the only one designed to teach the students about human literature
Reliability and validity of the MetricVBT© compared to the Tendo Sport© during the hexagonal bar deadlift in trained young adults
Get PDFPURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to determine the intra-set reliability of the MetricVBT (MVBT) application using the hexagonal barbell deadlift and to determine the accuracy of the MVBT application compared to the LPT, Tendo Sport unit. METHODS: Thirty resistance trained individuals (24 males, 6 females; age: 21.7 ±1.6 years; height: 1.74±.08; weight: 86.4±18.9; body fat: 17.9±7.08) each completed a single testing session consisting of four sets of five repetitions of a hexagonal barbell deadlift, at 50%, 75%, 100%, and 125% of the participants’ body weight (BW). Velocity and displacement were recorded simultaneously by a Tendo Sport unit and two smartphones utilizing the MVBT application, one at 0° (MVBT0) and another at 30° (MVBT30) anterior offset. Device validity was assessed by repeated measures ANOVA with a Bonferroni post-hoc test. Intra-set reliability was assessed by interclass correlation coefficients (ICC) and Bland-Altman plots. RESULTS: Differences between devices were detected for both velocity (p \u3c 0.001) and displacement (p \u3c 0.001). Post hoc comparisons revealed that velocity and displacement were under-reported by MVBT0 and MVBT30. This was supported by Bland-Altman plots. Intra-set ICC demonstrated moderate to excellent reliability for MVBT0 and MVBT30 for velocity (ICC = 0.66 – 0.92) and displacement (ICC = 0.71 – 0.93) CONCLUSIONS: This study suggested the MVBT application was reliable, but under-reports velocity and displacement when compared to a Tendo Sport unit. Even though this smartphone applications may provide a cheaper and more accessible option for VBT, other applications should be considered for a more accurate outcome
The impact of online tools on student writing
Get PDFOur classrooms today are vastly different from those just a few years ago. Many students are foreign to learning without any technology. In light of this drastic change in our classrooms, it is important to understand the new age\u27s impacts on our students and their learning abilities. This research study used a mixed-methods design to explore online tools\u27 effects on student writing. The research examines data collected from a fifth grade over two months, which included student writing samples and survey responses. This research compared outcomes between handwritten responses and those with access to tools such as automatic correction features. Results reveal a notable difference, with students demonstrating a higher frequency of spelling, grammatical, and mechanical errors in handwritten responses than those typed with proofreading software
