Curriculum to Support the Flipped Classroom in 8th Grade Mathematics
In mathematics classrooms much time is spent on instruction leaving little time for student questions and almost no time for student-teacher interactions during problem solving. One solution that addresses this problem is the flipped classroom model. This thesis will provide teachers with curriculum to teach a unit on systems of linear equations using a flipped classroom model of instruction.Provided are notes for instructional videos, bellwork, classwork, a unit review and unit test. The curriculum provided is intended to give teachers a template to use to record their own instructional videos, and work for students to do during class time
Level of Extraversion and its Impact on Reading Comprehension in the Presence of Background Music
The current study seeks to understand how background music affects reading comprehension depending on the personality of the individual. According to Eysenck’s theory of personality, extraverts perform better with high levels of outside stimuli compared to introverts. So far, support for this theory has been unclear. This could be because the tasks participants are being asked to complete are too easy, resulting in little competition between mental resources. In order to better understand whether or not task difficulty is important, this study uses both easy and difficult reading conditions. Participants listened to Alternative/Rock music with lyrics while reading easy or difficult reading passages, and then answered comprehension questions to the best of their ability. Based on previous research, the study hypothesized that in the easy reading condition introverts and extraverts would have similar scores, but for the difficult reading condition extraverts would perform better than introverts. There were no significant results for the interaction between extraversion and reading difficulty, however, a pattern did emerge to support this hypothesis. In addition, studying habit was measured to reveal that scores for participants who regularly listen to music while studying were not significantly different from scores of participants who do not regularly listen to music while studying. This was true for both easy and difficult reading passages

An Exploration of Providing Additional Support for Direct Entry Nursing Students
Change can always be hard, especially the transition into a new role. Nursing students across the country struggle to make this transition from a high school to a college student. This struggle is evident with the direct entry nursing students at The College at Brockport. A select few students are chosen out of high school to be directly entered into the nursing program as a freshman. These students are just responsible for maintaining a 3.25 GPA and complete all the required prerequisites. If these students fulfill these requirements they automatically gain entry into the nursing program their junior year. These individuals who earn this privilege of direct entry into the competitive nursing program face great difficulty attending classes, living in the dorms, and socializing with students who are competing for a seat in the program. I explored the effectiveness of a mentor program for these individuals that modeled the mentor programs offered to new graduate nurses at hospitals
