Admitting Students to the RNBSN Completion Program Pre-Licensure
Our current program admission guidelines are to admit students after they have passed NCLEX (state boards) and have a New York state RN license. The RNBSN program is requesting to admit students pre-licensure. Students will need to show proof of board registration. This will keep our program competitive and in line with other area colleges admission RN to BSN program practices
American Solipsism: How Sectional Differences in American Culture Affected the Reception of the Congo Reform Movement, 1890-1905
As part of HST 390: Research Methods, this paper seeks to look at how Civil War sentiments regarding slavery, and Africans by extension, influenced American reporting on the Congo crisis by comparing news reports from the North, South, and African Americans. There were varying publications criticizing Leopold II’s reign while others glorified his work for its industrial development. The author’s goal was to look at these varying opinions and see how they corresponded with the values of the former Union and Confederate states to determine if there was a connection and if it supported their idea that the call for reform would be from the same source as the call for abolition. The text focuses on individual newspaper reports from the period that are contextualized by modern scholarship
The re-emergence of seasonal hypoxia in Lake Erie: Causes and implications
Hypoxia is an extreme environmental condition occurring where dissolved oxygen is present at concentrations /L. During the mid-late 20th century, Lake Erie began experiencing exaggerated seasonal hypoxia in its central basin as a result of anthropogenic phosphorous loading. The seasonal hypoxia began impacting aquatic organisms negatively, such as benthic macroinvertebrates, and the Canada-US Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement (GLWQA) was signed in 1972 to address and combat the issue through monitoring and reduction of phosphorous loading. After 1972, hypoxic conditions were observed to decrease for a short while. However, during the early 1990s, seasonal hypoxia as a result of algal blooms began to emerge once again in the central basin of Lake Erie. The goal of this paper is to address and discuss the causes of the re-emergence of hypoxic events, the impact of hypoxia on Lake Erie’s ecosystem and aquatic organisms, the implications of climate change as it relates to hypoxic events, and current management efforts relating to hypoxia. This paper was written for ENV 466 (Great Lakes Issues) as a literature review on an issue facing the Great Lakes

Barriers to Physical Activity in Adolescents
Abstract
Physical activity is an important component to living a healthy lifestyle; however, adolescents’ physical activity levels are often very low. Thus, the purpose of this synthesis was to examine barriers adolescents face when it comes to being physically active and find out how they can be prevented or overcome. The critical mass revealed several internal and external barriers that adolescents face. These include lack of motivation/interest, lack of resources, and increased screen time. Since the research is examining adolescents, parents also played a large role in the studies. In order to address some of the barriers, strategies focused on increasing motivation, providing adequate social support, and redirecting screen time should be implemented. Future research should look further into trying to prevent barriers, especially internal ones that adolescents have more control over. If barriers are prevented, then adolescents will hopefully be more physically active and live a healthy lifestyle.
