The Effect of Pedal Crank Arm Length and Seat Height on Joint Angles in an Upright Cycling Position
Manipulations in crank arm length and seat height have resulted in significant changes in cycling performance. To better understand how these manipulations affect cycling performance, the purpose of this investigation was to determine the effect of 5 pedal crank arm lengths (l10, 145, 180, 215 and 250 mm) and 3 seat height (short, medium, and long) on joint angles (minimum, maximum, and range of motion) of the hip, knee, and ankle, as determined by 3 in an upright cycling position for 7 male participants. Nine 5 x 3 Repeated Measures Factor ANOVAs revealed that 35 mm increments in crank arm length from I l0-250mm resulted in a significant (p \u3c 0.01): (1) decrement int he minimum hip and knee angle; (2) increment in the minimum ankle angle; (3) increment in the hip and knee range of motion; and (4) decrement in the ankle range of motion. It was determined that 6 cm changes in seat height from the shortest to the longest seat height resulted in a significant (p \u3c 0.01): (l) increment in the minimum and maximum joint angle of the hip, knee, and ankle; and (2) increment in the range of motion of the knee. No significant interactions were found between crank arm length and seat height for different angle measurements (minimum, maximum, and range of motion) of the hip, knee, and ankle. In conjunction with the results of previous investigations, certain joint angle ranges result in more effective cycling performance
Approaches to Treatment of Schizophrenia as a Function of Evolving Stigma
In the early twentieth century, Eugen Bleuler coined the term Schizophrenia for a mental disturbance which he noted as being characterized by a separation of emotion and thought (Pridmore, 2016). Bleuler believed the defining feature of Schizophrenia to be a disorganized change in thought (Pridmore, 2016). Today, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders (DSM; American Psychiatric Association, 2013) states that Schizophrenia is a complex mental disorder that is typically severe and often long lasting, characterized by both disturbed thought and behavior
Comparison of lake trout (Salvelinus namaycush) fatty acid signatures in the Finger Lakes
Fatty acid signatures (FAS) can be used to study predator-prey relationships in aquatic food-webs and provide long-term foraging patterns that can reflect the diet composition of predators based on the principle “you are what you eat”. Lake trout Salvelinus namaycush is a native species in the Great Lakes region that relies on different prey throughout the Finger Lakes and therefore we predict that they will present different FAS among lakes. Lake trout were collected from six Finger Lakes between 2016 and 2020. FAS from lake trout were quantified using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. Our results indicate that lake trout FAS significantly differed among the six Finger Lakes (ANOSIM, global R = 0.709, P \u3c 0.001) and were characterized by concentrations associated with pelagic and benthic foraging. These results will ultimately be compared with FAS of prey species to evaluate lake trout diet composition in each Finger Lake.https://digitalcommons.brockport.edu/research_posters/1046/thumbnail.jp
Social Emotional Learning and English Language Learners
Social emotional learning (SEL) is a process of obtaining and effectually applying the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions in life for both children and adults. There are many challenges that English language learners (ELL) face in comparison to their English-speaking peers. ELLs have the challenges of learning a new language, culture, and academic and social-emotional skills. In this capstone I examine the overarching The research suggests that integrating SEL into the classroom curriculum and culture can support elementary students to better manage personal and collective behavior, to improve attendance rates, and to raise student achievement rates for ELLs. This capstone includes a professional development on SEL for teachers working with ELLs and mainstream students. The goals of the PD are to learn, understand, create and implement SEL activities. There is a great need for additional research on implementing SEL in classrooms with ELLs
HOW DOES SPORTS RETIREMENT AFFECT ELITE ATHLETES WELL-BEING?
Athletic retirement for an elite athlete can be one of the most significant if not scary moments of their life. The end of their athletic career begs major life decisions on where to go next and what will they do – who will they be if not an athlete? Therefore, the purpose of this synthesis project was to examine how athletic retirement affects elite athletes’ well-being. Data was collected using the EBSCOHOST search engine, found on SUNY- Brockport’s Drake Memorial Library online research website. A total of 10 critical mass articles were analyzed. From the critical mass the researcher identified factors which positively affected elite athletes and negative factors which led to difficulty in the retirement transition for elite athletes. A synthesis data coding table was created with the data from each article. The following three research questions were answered: (1) What positive factors made the retirement transition easier for the athlete?, (2) What negative factors made the retirement transition more difficult for the athlete? (3), and What impact did the termination have on the athletes’ overall quality of life? Results indicated that factors such as strong athletic identity and lack of planning/preparation for life after sport will result in a negative retirement transition and will affect the athletes’ overall quality of life in retirement. In contrast, factors such as autonomous retirement motivation, preparation/planning for life after sport, and strong social or organizational support during athletic retirement transitions for elite athletes will lead to a more positive experience and more perceived subjective well-being after retirement. These findings can assist athletic administrators in attempting to ensure positive retirement transitions and overall wellness for their former and current athletes.

Teachers’ Beliefs, Perceptions, and Use of Reproduction and Production Teaching Styles in Physical Education
Historically, Physical Education (PE) teachers have utilized traditional teaching styles for PE instruction. There has been a growing emphasis over the past 20 years, however, for teachers to utilize a variety of teaching styles in PE in order to meet National and State standards along with goals and objectives of learning in the psychomotor, cognitive, and affective domains. This synthesis, then, reviewed literature regarding teachers’ perceptions and beliefs about, and intentions to utilize both reproduction (teacher-centered) and production (student-centered) teaching styles in PE. The three research questions used for this synthesis include: (a) what are teachers’ perceptions relative to the different teaching styles used in PE, (b) what are PE teachers’ beliefs about reproduction and production teaching styles and their relationship to the content being taught, (c) do intended curricular goals across the three domains of learning influence teachers’ choices of particular teaching styles for instruction? Data for this synthesis was collected using EBSCOHOST (found on The College at Brockport’s Drake Memorial Library online research website) and Google Scholar search engines. Key words in SPORTDiscus and the Google Scholar search engine were utilized to find 10 studies that focused on the synthesis’s purpose and research questions. An article grid was composed with data from each of the articles that made up the critical mass. Results influenced three key points that should be taken away from this synthesis: PE teachers prefer the utilization of reproduction styles over production styles; PE teachers’ beliefs about teaching styles impact which teaching styles they implement; and, PE teachers need to increase the usage of production teaching styles as a means to develop not only psychomotor goals in the PE curriculum, but cognitive and affective goals as well. Administrators and colleges can use this information to assist teachers in learning how to implement and utilize the different teaching styles
The Economic Impact of Professional Sports in the United States
Abstract
Since 1990, stadium construction for professional sport franchises has boomed significantly (Harger et al., 2016). Often times these stadiums are publicly subsidized by tax payers to lure franchises to either stay in the city they are present in, or replace the organization in a new city. Public officials often promise economic benefits to come with the presence of a new stadium or professional franchise when subsidies are campaigned for (Feng & Humphreys, 2018). Literature on this topic of economic impacts, relating to professional sport franchises and sports facilities, show mixed evaluations (Jasina & Rotthoff, 2016). The purpose of this synthesis was to review the literature on the economic impact of American professional sports franchises

Geometry A does not Stop for COVID-19; Resources for Remote Instruction
This curriculum project was created to support remote teacher lesson planning with the focus of high school geometry. This project was constructed by a student teacher during the international pandemic of 2020, the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. The viral outbreak changed the classroom, academics, and humanity. Teachers, students, and administration had to adapt to an online format instantaneously. This project focuses on an actual unit plan from a local geometry class that had to convert its entire curricular structure to support modern technology, Common Core State Standards (CCSS), students, administration, supervising teacher, and Brockport College.
This curriculum project is modified with video commentary (VC). This project is designed for the universal audience. Anywhere there is a (VC), it is a link to a video commentary pertaining to specific content. Further, anything that is blue, is a link to a website, a specific page, a video, an image, or documentary to inspire the future structuring of curricular documentation
