Implementation of Curriculum 2013 requires students to learn actively, independently, and critical thinking. Critical thinking is an activity through thinking about ideas related to concepts or problems. The efforts to improve critical thinking skills of learners can be done by using the appropriate learning model. One of the learning models that can be used to improve the ability of critical thinking is a problem-based learning model. This type of research is quasi experiment with randomized control-group pretest posttest design. The sample of this research choosed by used purposive sampling method. Class VIII6 as experimental class and class VIII4 as control class. Data of this research result are quantitative data of critical thinking ability. Data were analyzed by using t test. The results showed that the mean difference of posttest value with pretest value of critical thinking ability of experimental class learners is higher than control class. Hypothesis testing with t-test obtained tcalculate=2,94>ttable= 1,67, then H1 accepted. Based on these results the authors conclude that the implementation of problem-based learning model has a positive effect on the ability to think critically learners on the material additives and addictive substances

The learning process at SMPN 13 Padang is teacher-centered, that effects students are less active. Teachers have not implemented innovative learning model, this makes students bored and lack of concentration during the learning process. When group discussions are held,  students can not cooperate and communicate well. This resulted  low competence knowledge and attitude of students, so it is necessary  learning process that can improve the competence of knowledge and attitude of students by apply cooperative learning model type make a match. The purpose of  this research to determine the positif effect of the model of cooperative learning type make a match to the competence of knowledge and attitude of students on the material organizational system of life in SMPN 13 Padang. This research is a experimental research with Randomized Control-Group Pretest-Posttest  Design. The population of this research is students of class VII SMPN 13 Padang. Sampling by purposive sampling technique with VII.2 students as control class and VII.4 as experiment class. The research instruments are test for knowledge competence and observation sheet for attitude competence. The research hypothesis was tested by t-test. The result showed that eksperimental class and control class have different achievement of the knowledge competence with t calculate is 3,07  and t table is 1,669  and attiude competence with t calculate is 3,98 and t table is 1,669 with α 0,05. It showed that t calculate > t table, so it concluded that the implementation of cooperative learning model type make a match can improve the competence of knowledge and attitude of learners on the material organizational system of life in SMPN 13 Padang

Misconception is a concept that doesn’t suitable with the concept recognized by experts. Misconception whom occur in students’ selves prohibit the formed of relation with the new concepts and disrupt the realization of learning process. Misconception may occur in learning of biological concepts, for example in substance transport material. This material contains the concepts that underlie the understanding of students to know the further biological concepts. Understanding of substance transport material has been obtained since at school and it’s difficult to understand for abstract reasons so it has the possibility of misconception. Therefore, misconception needs to be known by teacher and followed up early. The aim of this research is to identify the misconception on the concepts of substance transport material which experienced by first year class students in study program of Biology Education of UNP. This research is descriptive research which conducted in study program of biology education. The population of this research are 179 students of class 2017. The sample is 25% of 179 members of population, which is 45 members. The taking of sampling used simple random sampling technique. The data used are primary data which taking by using multiple choice test accompanied by Certainty of Response Index (CRI) and analyzed through quantitative technical analysis by percentage.Based on the analysis of data, it can be known that the percentage of students with the highest misconception is on the concept of passive transport mechanism about 23,03%, then on the concept of active transport mechanism about 22,69%, on the concept of transport mechanism through ensocytosis and exocytosis about 21,11%, and the lowest is misconception on the concept of cell membrane structure about 15,55%   Keywords: Misconception, substance transport, CR

Student activity is an important factor that must be a concern in the learning process, especially in biology subjects which have tended to be considered as many memorized and Latin subjects. One effort that can be done to improve student learning activities is through the application of discovery learning models along with the provision of rewards with the material used, namely animal networks. The purpose of this study was to improve the learning activities of Biology students in class XI MIA 2 SMAN 1 Padang. This type of research is Classroom Action Research (CAR) which was conducted in two cycles consisting of four stages, namely planning, implementing, observing, reflecting. namely students of class XI MIA 2 SMAN 1 Padang the number of students as many as 29 people. Data collection techniques were obtained through observation, questionnaires. The results showed that the application of discovery learning learning models can improve the learning activities of Biology students in animal network material. students are classified as good from 67.93% in Cycle I, increased to 78.62% in Cycle II, and increased by 10.72%

Critical thinking is a purposeful and clear process used in mental activities such as problem solving, decision making, persuading, analyzing assumptions and conducting scientific research. The ability of thinking critically is  effected by the competence of knowledge acquired by the students. Based on midterm exam, the result showed that 87,5% of students do not meet the minimum exhaustiveness criteria (KKM). One way that can be condusted to overcome it is applying inquiry learning  model.the purpose of this research is to find out the effect of inquiry learning model towards studens’ critical thinking skills. The research is Quasi experiment research by using Randomized Control-Group Research Posttest Only Design. The population is VIII class student in SMPN 11 Padang. The sample is VIII.B students as an  experiment class and VIII.C students as a control class, that are selected by purposive sampling technique. The instrument used is final test in form of essays to see the effect of inquiry laerning model of critical thinking ability of students. The hypothesis in this research is examinated by t-test, because the data is distributed normally and it has homogenen variation. Based on the research, the result showed that critical thinkingability t arithmetic > t table (4,23 > 1,67). Therefore, the hypothesis is accepted it can be concluded than applying inquiry learning model can give positive effecttowards students competence of critical thinking ability about excretion system in VIII class SMPN 11 Padang.&nbsp

Kurikulum 2013 emphasizes science and technology, student centered learning patterns and principles of self-construction to learners. SMA Negeri 12 Padang as the school organizer of Kurikulum 2013 when observation is found non-conformity such as learning conducted is teacher centered, construction of knowledge is less conceptualized in the students. This research is an experimental research with Non-Equivalent Posttest Group Only Design. The study population is the students of class XI MIA SMA Negeri 12 Padang 2017/2018 academic year which spread into four classes. Sampling research using purposive sampling. The results were selected class XI MIA 3 as experimental class and class XI MIA 1 as a control class. The result of t test is known that the knowledge competence of tcount > ttable (2,67 > 1,67), attitude competence tcount > ttable (learning activity: 4,67 > 1,67 and practicum activity: 2,15 > 1,67) , then competence of skill  tcount > ttable (2,07 > 1,67). It is known that the hypothesis is accepted. So it can be concluded that the implementation of constructivism approach through Learning Cycle 5E learning model can improve students' learning competence of class XI MIA SMA Negeri 12 Padang

Based on the observation, it was found that the learning process did not motivate the students. Media that teachers use when the learning process is also less interest and motivation of learners. In addition, the media has not provided a clear picture for learners in relating it in everyday life. This study aims to develop a contextually oriented contextual learning medium for a valid and practical X class. This research is a development study. This learning medium was developed using three stages of 4D models. Data obtained from the validation and practicalization. Media that has been designed, validated by three experts, then tested to a teacher and 30 students of class X in SMA Negeri 12 Padang to know the level to the practitioner. The result of the research shows that the media developed in the biology learning oriented contextual approach on the material of kingdom Animalia for students of class X is stated very valid and very practical
