This article discusses the imagery of anthropomorphic and zoomorphic figurines which accompanied eleven burials in the Stone Age cemetery at Zvejnieki, Latvia. These burials date to the sixth, fifth and early-mid fourth millennia cal BC, according to radiocarbon dates of human remains from ten of the eleven burials, three of which were dated for this paper. The figurines are considered in terms of their characteristic formal qualities and their position within graves. Parallels are drawn with similar finds from elsewhere in the Baltic region. The imagery employed appears to be based on observations of nature, the fishing and hunting lifeways of these communities, and their beliefs concerning life after death, which were not apparently affected by the transitions from Mesolithic to Neolithic, and between Early Neolithic Narva culture and Middle Neolithic Typical Comb Ware Culture.Key words: Zvejnieki, Stone age, Burial ground, Radiocarbon dating, Anthropomorphic and Zoomorphic figurinesDOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.15181/ab.v25i0.183

The main goal of social services is to satisfy the vital needs of individuals when they are unable to achieve them by themselves, to restore peopleʼs abilities to function independently in society and to provide them for prevention purposes, in order to prevent problems. People working in social services sector must have sufficient knowledge, skills and appropriate competencies. The scientific problem: what kind of competencies are needed for social service providerʼs work and how they might be improved?Subject: competencies of social service provider and possibilities to improve them. Objective: to analyze theoretically and empirically reveal the important competencies for social services providersʼ work and ways for improvement. The scientific literature suggests that the social service providerʼs field of activity is to provide support/assistance. The study revealed that the social service provider activity raises challenges and promotes the need to constantly improve the professional competence. The most important reason for social workers professional development is the improvement of their work quality, acquiring new knowledge and the development of practical skills. In particular, there is a lack of adult education and training knowledge, decision-making, analytical knowledge, teamwork and collaboration, intelligence gathering and evaluation and planning skills. The most effective forms of training informants indicated cooperation with related institutions and participation in training events.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.15181/andragogy.v8i0.171

SOCIOKOGNITYVINIS KONFLIKTAS KAIP UGDANTYSIS VEIKSNYS SUAUGUSIŲJŲ MOKYMOSI SITUACIJOJE

This theoretical article is aimed to analyse a socio-cognitive conflict as an educational factor in the context of adult learning and education. For a long time, the socio-cognitive conflict had been considered a negative factor in a learning or study process. Actually, a positive attitude toward the aspect was formed as late as in recent decades – thenceforth, a socio-cognitive conflict was claimed to be a positive phenomenon where a teacher or an andragogue is able to provide appropriate assistance in this case, he/she knows how to handle it, to make it a learning incentive, an epistemological source of new knowledge and social representations. An analysis of a socio-cognitive conflict might help to provide a more thorough answer to the following problematic issue: how to perceive and explain the idea of a socio-cognitive conflict, its educational importance in the context of adult learning and education? The article is not aimed to find answers to all problematic issues which, though, allow posing a scientific problem of the article: what does a socio-cognitive conflict mean as an educational factor in the context of adult learning and education? Thus, an object of research has been a socio-cognitive conflict in the context of adult learning. The goal of the article is to study a socio-cognitive conflict which performs a function of an educational factor. When writing the article, the following research methods were applied: analysis of scientific literature for revealing a concept and idea of a socio-cognitive conflict; meta-analysis – for reviewing the findings of previous studies in this field. The article consists of two parts: the first part deals with a concept of a socio-cognitive conflict, the second – with its significance, where the latter is treated as a source of adult learning and an educational factor. The analysis of scientific literature suggests that a socio-cognitive conflict (SCC) in the context of adult learning and education is a destabiliser of a learning process that arises in the process of cognition through interaction with other people as a result of different social representations, attitudes toward facts, phenomenon, object, information, existing knowledge, and other confrontations. The phenomena of SCC and cognitive conflict mechanisms are identical, though, differ in the context of social interaction which is not always inherent in a cognitive conflict.SCC is considered an educational and learning factor under the following conditions only: asymmetry of social relations (e.g., a different social-occupational status) scarcely ever creates favourable conditions for SCC solutions, while the SCC does not become an educational and learning factor. This is especially true of hierarchical relationships, where SCC is resolved solely on the basis of mutual relations, rather than a cognitive problem. Such an SCC decision is inappropriate since it only emphasises, for example, a teacher’s status or underlines a connivance of students;intensity of socio-cognitive relations (majority-minority opinions) may have a positive impact on learning if account is taken of a positive verbal and nonverbal communication and the weight of the arguments put forward;features of social affective interaction are: an emotionally secure and positive (as well as learning) environment for solving the SCC, which is safe from interpersonal stains. Participants in social interaction, in case of SCC and provision of assistance, must have provisional positive cognitive and social skills for solving SCC and other learning issues.Adult learning and educational situations are often complex, ambiguous, involve not only a socio-cognitive conflict, but also identities of andragogues, adult learners, personal motivation, interpersonal relations, existing social representations, etc. It is, therefore, assumed that the above theoretical insights presume further empirical narrative studies in this field to disclose the experience of adult education players (andragogues, teachers, students, adult learners, etc.), their social representations upon coming through a social conflict as an educational and learning factor, in much more detail.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.15181/andragogy.v8i0.172

This paper presents a thorough theoretical scientific analysis on cluster life cycles and highlights in detail the main structuring of the life-cycle types. Moreover, based on the provided example of the maritime industry cluster conditions, the author presents a deductive analysis of the entire cluster life cycle distinguishing the main local and global driving factors. Using scientific literature analysis and synthesis, systemization, as well as deduction there are outlined the emergence and evolution of the key cluster driving forces. Finally, the paper provides the most important findings on the cluster life cycle conditions that have impact on the cluster development processes.KEYWORDS: cluster, life cycle, driving factor.JEL CODES: D21, D85, E32, F44.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.15181/rfds.v23i1.168

Kiekybiniame tyrime dalyvavo 152 respondentai: gydytojai, slaugytojai, laborantai. Pasirinktas netikimybinis tiriamų grupių parinkimo būdas – atsitiktinis. Tyrimo instrumentas – anoniminė (bevardė) anketa, kurioje pateiktais teiginiais siekiama nustatyti inovacijų diegimo padėtį ir proceso tobulinimo poreikį. Tyrimas atliktas privačioje sveikatos priežiūros įstaigoje Klaipėdos mieste. Nustatyta, kad tirtoje sveikatos priežiūros įstaigoje būtina tobulinti inovacijų diegimo (3-ias žingsnis) idėjų pateikimą ir įgyvendinimo kontrolę (8-as žingsnis). Įstaiga turėtų skatinti darbuotojų įsitraukimą į inovacijų diegimo procesą, didinti jų motyvaciją, tobulinti inovacijų diegimo kontrolės formą, tai drausmintų darbuotojų veiklą. Nuolat tobulinami inovacijų diegimo žingsniai suteikia daugiau galimybių įstaigai stebėti savo inovacinę veiklą, įvertinti pranašumus ir trūkumus, laiku atlikti koregavimo veiksmus. Tai lemia inovatyvią, efektyvią, kokybišką įstaigos veiklą.PAGRINDINIAI ŽODŽIAI: inovacija, inovacijų diegimo žingsniai, sveikatos priežiūros įstaiga.JEL KLASIFIKACIJA: I15; O31.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.15181/rfds.v26i3.181

SPOONS WITH APOSTLE FIGURES IN LITHUANIA

    Get PDF
Ten apostle spoons have been found in Lithuania during archaeological excavations and site surveys, and two have been brought to the museum by people who found them on their land. This article discusses their identification, material, context and provenance. Additionally, it is argued that apostle spoons, which for a long time were thought to be only used as christening gifts, had other purposes. The distribution map reveals that all the apostle spoons were found inland, with the largest number concentrated in Vilnius, the capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The apostle spoons that were found in Lithuania were probably made in the 17th century, and used until the first half of the 18th century. The features of the figures indicate that they were made in and imported from England and continental Europe. Of the 12 spoons analysed, only five apostles could be identified with certainty, and they correspond well with the most popular saints and names in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the 16th and 17th centuries.Key words: apostle spoon, Lithuania, christening present, Post-Medieval, England, German-speaking regions.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.15181/ab.v25i0.183
