Get PDFThe object of the study by Ukrainian ethnomusicologist Iryna Klymenko (Iрина Клименко) are 5-complex rhythmic formulas, which are used in ritual melodies of Ukrainians, Belorusians, Poles, Lithuanians. The material for the study was ca. 5.000 melodies of wedding, winter (carols), spring cycles, which contain 5-complex figures. The author studies the differences in the variation of 5-syllabic group, which depends on various factors: from (a) the genre, (b) from the type of the verse formula: monorhythmic V55 or heterotrhythmic V553, V557, etc., (c) from its localization. A large range of rhythmic options is reduced to two key algorithms. The variants are applied to the geographic maps, after which the obtained habitats are compared. By this publication, the author expects to draw the attention of the scientific community to complex typological-geographical plexuses taking place in the large rituals of the song massifs of the Slavic-Baltic early-tradiation melodical massive.Key words: the Slavic-Baltic early-tradition melodical massive, ritual tunes, wedding songs, carols (kolyadky), arealogy, rhythmic variations, 5-syllabic group.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.15181/td.v13i0.169

Get PDFAn attempt was made to classify general trends and forms of Ukrainian historically-informed performances in folk-instrumental art realization in the article. The main vectors are folk authenticity, reconstruction of performance forms on European antique instruments Renaissance and Baroque period, historical national practice of performing secular courtier and concert playing here. PREFACE
No full texthe 13th volume of annual edition “Tradicija ir dabartis / Tradition & Contemporarity” is the continuity of the initiative from historical Department of Folk Music, Faculty of Arts (later on – a part of Department of Instrumental Music, and a part of Department of Music at present, Academy of Arts) at Klaipėda University, Lithuania. The idea to edit such periodical science journal was born there in 1994, when the 1st volume was published. And now the name of the actual Department became as history because of continuing structural reforms at whole Klaipėda University. We have got just Program of Folk Music later on as the part of Department of Instrumental Music, and as the part of Department of Music at present. And the articles by the authors from this Department together with scientific people from Vilnius (Lithuanian Music and Theatre Academy, LMTA; Lithuanian Literature and Folklore Institute, LLTI) presented their materials for the volume. The top outstanding contemporary Ukrainian ethnomusicologists from numerous scientific institutions in Kyiv, Lviv, Rivne, Dnipro, Kropyvnytskyi and Droghobychy became as our authors as well, together with their colleagues from Russia in Moscow and St. Petersburg.This volume continues publishing of scientific articles, based on various aspects of tradition and contemporarity in ethnomusicology from Lithuania, Ukraine and Russia. Get PDFThe article by Ukrainian ethnomusicologist Liudmyla Aliieva (Людмила Алiєва) deals with the information on folk music research in Eastern Podillia, from the second half of the last century up to the our times. In particular, information on folkloristic activities of well-known collectors Anastasiia Prysiazhniuk and Hnat Tantsiura are presented. The work on the fixation of musical folklore in this region was analyzed by research institutions of Kyiv, Lviv, Khmelnytskyi, Vinnytsia, Kamianets-Podilskyi, Kropyvnytskyi. The Great War in Lithuanian Literature and Memoirs
Get PDFWorks of fiction and memoirs relating to the First World War written in the Lithuanian languageor by Lithuanian authors have so far not been a preoccupation of Lithuanian literary scholars.Due to the breadth of the topic, the analysis in this article is limited to the most importantworks of fiction and witnesses’ memories of the Great War. The first fictional and documentaryworks analysed in the article were written during the war itself, the last at the beginning of theSecond World War. There is quite a large and very varied (from the point of view of artisticquality) amount of this kind of literature. Using methods of narratology and comparison, theauthor sets out to analyse the main themes, plots and possible influences, while placing thewritings in the history of Lithuanian literature.Key words: First World War, Lithuanian literature, military fiction, war memoirs

Get PDFThe article shows what information the press between 1905 and 1940 provided Lithuanian readers about Shrovetide celebratory traditions around the world. The information collected, consisting of seven articles, thirty photographs and drawings, is fragmentary but fairly informative, providing a good and concise understanding of this cultural phenomenon in a popular manner. Get PDFA person is a sexual being expressing oneself as a man or a woman. People exercise relationships and possess a certain gender identity. However, as a result of the sin and damaged sexuality, there is an incentive to use oneself and others as instruments whereas it becomes difficult, if not impossible, to build and maintain relationships and to experience sexuality (femininity or masculinity) and one’s gender the way that the Creator has planned for the human nature. Restoration of these sin-damaged abilities of relationships, sexuality and gender identity is possible by turning to God, recognizing His plan for people and believing in His power and willingness to restore within a person what has been ruined. Different practices of Christian faith, psychotherapy or self-help groups serve this purpose. One of the ways to render assistance is programs of “Living Water”. In Lithuania there are two active programs: “Living Water” and “In the Beginning”. In a number of cases these programs have a positive impact on personal relationships, sexuality and gender identity.This article focuses on God’s plan, personal relationships, sexuality and gender identity, which were all corrupted by the sin, discusses possible solutions to restore what has been damaged by the sin, as well as presents the analysis of the outcomes of the research on the influence of the programs of “Living Water” on women’s personal relationships, sexuality and gender identity.KEY WORDS: relationships, sexuality, gender identity, femininity, masculinity, the program “Living Water”, the program “In the Beginning”
‘Lithuanian Nationalists’ against ‘Imperial Russians’? Generational Conflicts between Senior Lithuanian Army Officers
Get PDFWith the creation of the Lithuanian armed forces in the early 20th century, the question ofhaving officers loyal to the idea of the nation-state inevitably arose. It became especially relevantduring the Wars of Independence that followed the First World War. Due to the need tocreate the armed forces urgently, individuals from different backgrounds and with differentexperiences joined the corps of officers in the emerging Lithuanian army. Therefore, a varietyof tensions of a political and social nature arose between them, which in some cases grewinto open conflict. The article examines the question of whether these conflicts were based ondifferences in officers’ education, social background, national engagement or experience. Canwe explain the conflicts between the officers by the generation gap? Get PDF2017 m. gegužės 5 d. pakirstas klastingos ligos mirė vienas iš Klaipėdos universiteto kūrėjų ir puoselėtojų docentas daktaras Antanas Lukoševičius. A. Lukoševičius gimė Pušalote 1954 m. vasario 14 d. 1977 m. baigęs Vilniaus universiteto Filologijos fakultetą 3 metus dirbo mokytoju, klasės auklėtoju Panevėžio rajono Krekenavos vidurinėje mokykloje. Apie pirmąją darbovietę visam gyvenimui išliko šviesūs įspūdžiai. Geru žodžiu Antanas visuomet minėjo savo auklėtinius, buvusius bendradarbius. Praėjus daugeliui metų ir kolegoms, ir studentams jis šmaikščiai, su linksmomis detalėmis papasakodavo nuotaikingų, prasmingų istorijų apie savo pedagoginės karjeros pradžią. Mokytojavimo patirtis sustiprino jo pedagoginį pašaukimą, o kartu nulėmė ir tolesnį profesinį kelią
