Background. Anemia and IDD are interlinked nutritional problem especially indeveloping countries. Anemic conditions has been known to decreased iodiumefectivity. Attention in adolescence nutritional status is still limited that studies onnutrition and micronutrient status of adolescents are still needed. Relationshipsbetween micronurient and cognitive development in adolescents require clarification.Objective. To determine the relationship between anemia status with cognitivefunction, using level of intelligence and learning achievement, in early adolescenceperiode. Method. This was a cross-sectional study conducted in the Bulu and Kedudistrict, Temanggung. Samples were 120 first grade junior high school students. Datacollected include cognitive function, with level of intelligence and learning achievementas indicators. Intelligence was measured with CFIT (Culture Fair Intelligence Test)and academic achievement measured by standardized tests on mathematics. Anemiastatus was measured with hemoglobin levels using CyanmetHb method. Researchdata were analyzed by independent sample t-test and linear regression. Results. Theresults showed that student with cognitive function with intelligence level indicator onis quite high (62.9%). Female in early adolescent had 1.5 times risks to have anemiathan male, but statistically not significant (OR: 1.55; 95% CI; 0.61-3.93). There wasno association between anemia status (p>0.05) and gender (p>0.05) with intelligence(p>0.05) and learning achievement (p>0.05). Intelligence level contributed most tomathematics achievement (beta=0.257 p<0.05). Conclusion. There is no differencein the level of intelligence and learning achievement in early adolescence period, based on the anemia status and gender. Intelligence is a dominant factor influencingmathematics achievement. Further research is necessary in the middle or lateadolescence to obtain more comprehensive understanding in the effect of anemiaon adolescents cognitive function. Keywords: anemia status, cognitive function, early adolescent

There are clinicians who agree with treatment of subclinical hypothyroidism but others are disagree. A few of subclinical hypothyroid patient without regular thyroxine or iodine treatment will turn into clinical hypothyroidism. Objective. This study aimed to determine the levothyroxine intervention thyroid status in subclinical hypothyroidism patients, especially comparing the Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) dan free tetraiodotironine (fT4) level after 50 µg per day dose of levotiroksin intervention. Method. This is an experimental study using randomized double blind controlled trial design. The respondents were goiter patients with subclinical hypothyroidism in Litbang GAKI clinic who fulfill inclusion criterias (TSH ≥2.5 μIU/mL and FT4 0.8 - 2.0 µIU/mL). There were 57 peoples divided into two groups: 28 peoples given 50 µg dose of levotiroksin intervention and 29 people given placebo. Data were analyzed using Anova test. Results. The delta mean of TSH level in the first month of study decreased by 3.2 µIU/mL in the intervention group and 0.96 µIU/mL in the placebo groups with p value=0.003. At two months, the TSH level decreased by 4.1 µIU/mL in intervention group and 1.5 µIU/mL in the placebo group with p value=0.001. The fT4 level was not decreased in the first month intervention with p value=0.054, the delta mean was 0.23 µIU/mL in the intervention group and 0.02 µIU/mL in placebo groups, while in the second month, the delta mean of fT4 level increased by 0.4 µIU/mL in the intervention group and 0.06 µIU/mL in the placebo group with p value=0.008. Conclusion. The 50 µg per day dose of levothyroxine intervention could improve the fT4 level in the second month of intervention, tailored to decreased levels of TSH in the 1st intervention

Recently, there were many reports a occurence of iodine deficiency disorders(IDD) and extension of goitre area in lowlands urban which should be enoughof iodine. Air pollution caused by motor-vehicle has reached high level in urbanarea (60-70%). Research in Yogyakarta (1997) found 55,9% subject wascontaminated by plumbum. Another research found there were mothers withlow iodine status. It is expected other factors were inhibiting iodine utilizationprocess. The child bearing age women (CBAW) are among vulnerable groupwhen incured lead exposure. It is related to possible hazard to their pregnancyand foetus. The aim of this study was to find prediction model the thyroid functionbased on age and blood lead level factors among CBAW with risk of plumbumexposure in urban area. Study design was cross-sectional. This study conductedin crowded traffic area in Yogyakarta. Subject were 99 CBAW 15-49 year. Bloodlead level was analyzed by AAS method; TSH-FT4 by ELISA; UIE by APDM;haemoglobin by CyanmetHb; data of cyanide and protein intake were collectedby interview using Semi-FFQ; and nutritional status was determined by BMI.Proportion of hypothyroidism was 19,2% (95%CI: 11,4%–26,9%). The CBAWwith high blood lead level was 49,5%. Logistic regression test result showedthere was relationship between blood lead level with thyroid function (p=0,018,RR=3,99). The contribution of age was very small (p=0,031, RR=0,92). The t testresult showed there was no relationship between cyanide, protein and iodineconsumtion, haemoglobin level, and nutrition status with thyroid function. Thehigh blood lead level was the risk factor of hypothyroidism among CBAW withrisk of plumbum (Pb) exposure in urban area

Lymphatic filariasis (LF) is still a public health problem in Indonesia, particularly in rural area. Untill 2009, there were 186 LF cases reported from South Sumatera. LF is a chronic disease that caused by the infection of filariae worm and transmitted by various species of mosquitoes. LF that caused by B. malayi is not only infect human but also animal, such as crab-eating macaque (Macaca fascicularis), silvered leaf monkey (Presbythis cristatus), and cat (Felis catus). A study was conducted in order to know the reservoir and vector of malayi filariasis in Muara Padang village, Muara padang sub-district, Banyuasin district, South Sumatera. This was a cross-sectional study where data were collected through reservoir blood examination (cat) and finding microfilariae  L3 form in mosquito. The results showed that mo microfilariae of B. Malayi was found in 17 blood samples of cat. Instead of B. malayi, Dirofilaria repens, a type of animal filarial, was found in 11 blood samples of cat. Moreover, there was no microfilariae L3 form in 701 mosquitoes

    Permasalahan Informed Consent Penelitian Kesehatan

    No full text
Informed consent is consent given by research subjects after he obtained the information completely. One ofthe most important problems is the lack ofunderstanding of the subject of the content of the informed consent  form  caused by the use of inappropriate standards and language that is not easily understood. Thus the existence of this paper is expected to minimize errors due to informed consent of research through literature search sourced  either from the study materials, books, journals, magazines and the Internet. Formulation of an appropriate informed consent refers to the Nuremberg standard code (1947), Declaration of Helsinki (1964, revised 2002, 2004, and 2008) and research ethics in each country. With the appropriate standard form and simple language, the subject will be easier to understand and is upected to provide a rational agreement andwithout coercion

Since the first cases of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) appeared in indonesia in 1968, DHF has been spreading throughout provinces in Indonesia. Y ogyakarta is one of the provinces with a high incidence rate which shows an increasing trend each year, particularly in Sub-district Umbulharjo. Many efforts have been done to reduce the incidence of dengue cases, however dengue cases are still high. The purposes of this study were to establish the child jumantik and to determine the density of Aedes aegypti before and after the establisment of child jumantik. Quasi-experimental method was used on this study. The results indicated that there was a difference in Ae. aegypti density before and after the establisment of child jumantik. Child jumantik showed higher accuracy compared to adult jumantik. They can monitor the density of Ae. aegypti while playing and doing it together with their friends. Therefore, it is expected to lower the density of Ae. aegypti and eventually decrease the number of cases of DHF
