Abstract The reliability of supply of the logistics systems is the one of the most important factors determining the competitiveness of businesses. The main purpose of this paper is to assess the reliability of supply of a given system with the use of warranty analysis, based on the Nevada chart. The reliability analysis performed is done in the following way: shipping and warranty return data  of a given supply system are converted into a classic data form. Then, the life data analysis is performed, which allows to obtain the given reliability indicators and predict the future returns of the products and services. The paper consists of some useful reliability measures, that may be used in the assessment of reliability for the supply system. Used reliability indicators may be the basis for the development of the preventive tasks to reduce the future returns. The presented approach for reliability assessment of supply system discloses its applicability. Forecasting the future returns and determining the selected reliability measures may be applied in any supply system. It is valuable for the identification of the weakest product or service and it is necessary for developing further preventive activitie

The application of the concept of supply chain management in the construction industry

    Get PDF
The innovation and practicality of SCM solutions has been used in the construction industry relatively recently. Companies and construction companies have recognized the concept of supply chain management as a way to reduce costs, improve production quality, shorten project execution time and increase scheduling flexibility.Construction Supply Chain (CSC) refers to the whole project. The links in this chain are the suppliers and recipients of raw materials, materials, machines and equipment, people (workers), money and technical documentation, as well as many different information and intangible assets that are necessary for the execution of works and structures..Well planned and developed logistics concepts and logistics management solutions provide the opportunity for efficient project execution and cost reduction related to logistics as well as total project cost. An important element in increasing the efficiency of the project is the proper coordination of the logistics processes of all its stakeholders at every stage of the investment cycle.High risk of construction investment, mortgage crisis and high customer demand - this is the real estate market nowadays. Looking for solutions, on the one hand minimizing the costs of contractors, on the other hand it is important to maintain the high quality of the product. Can CSCM be the answer to the current state of affairs

Designing a More Effective Supply Chain

    Get PDF
Supply chain can be considered as a series of linked inventories. This paper considers the impact of inventory on the economics of the businesses and the whole chain and discusses causes of inefficiency.  In most supply chains the goods are inactive for the majority of the time, and this leads to longer term and therefore less accurate forecasting. The result is typically excess inventory, shortages, and inflexibility. By analysing the wasted time and costs in the supply chain, a clearer view of the whole process can be created. Total supply time can be considered as three components, namely value added time, non-value added process time, and waste time. This basic approach shows where improvements should be focussed. Using this time-based measurement enables more relevant comparison between supply chains than the normal supply chain efficiency ratio

Predictive business process monitoring is a current research area which purpose is to predict the outcome of a whole process (or an element of a process i.e. a single event or task) based on available data. In the article we explore the possibility of use of the machine learning classification algorithms based on trees (CART, C5.0, random forest and extreme gradient boosting) in order to anticipate the result of a process. We test the application of these algorithms on real world event-log data and compare it with the known approaches. Our results show tha

Electric-car-sharing in urban logistics – analysis of implementation and maintenance

    No full text
The implementation of the sustainable transport policy in cities aims at finding various solutions that support the use of ‘clean energy’ in urban logistics. One of current global sustainable transport trends involves various measures related to electromobility. An example of electromobility in urban logistics is the e-car-sharing, or a short-term electric car rental.Since electric car-sharing is rather new to the transport market, operators and cities and metropolises may face various difficulties while implementing such services. Based on still operating and discontinued e-car-sharing systems, the authors analysed strengths and weaknesses of those systems with the focus on implementation and maintenance issues. The goal of the article is to determine strengths and challenges for e-car-sharing in urban logistics. The article is designed to assist stakeholders interested in the implementation of e-car-sharing.The analysis was provided under the international research project of ‘Electric travelling platform to support the implementation of electromobility in Smart Cities based on ICT applications’ funded from the National Research and Development Centre as a part of the ERA-NET CoFund Electric Mobility Europe Programme

The processes of globalization and increased competitiveness caused that the company have begun to look for solutions and strategies that give opportunities for development and further market expansion. The intensification of competition on the global scale in the 1980s, forced companies to offer low cost, high quality and robust products with greater design flexibility. Various management concepts have been used to improve production efficiency and speed up the cycle. In the 1990s, many manufacturers and service providers began to focus on improving collaboration with suppliers and improving purchasing and supply management. Initially the cooperation was mainly developed in the area of purchasing policies and supply management in factories, but as time went on, it became increasingly popular among wholesalers and retailers who also decided to integrate their transport and logistics functions in a supply chain with a view to gain competitive advantage (Choon T.). The increase in customer requirements with the same pressures to reduce costs and accelerate time service delivery resulted in the growing importance of planning and anticipation of future events. The increasing amount of data makes management depended on systems that allow for rapid decision-making. Apart from ERP systems, which mainly support the management of individual businesses, more and more companies invest in systems APS (Advanced Planning System), which provide  better support in planning processes throughout the supply chain. The aim of the article is to present the idea of advanced supply chain planning, constraints and challenges facing the managing the flow of products and information. The study also addressed the role of Advanced Planning Systems in supply chain management and identify main problems and obstacles that users and decision makers come across while implementing and using IT system

The subject of the article concerns the stabilization of communication earthworks using the so-called lightweight retaining structures. The stability of the embankment with the embankment built with the gabion wall is analysed, assuming a uniformly distributed load on the crown and a case of unilateral water pressure in the event of a flood. Final results of stability calculations made with the Fellenius and Bishop method in the form of slip surface with the smallest value of the coefficient were presented. Then, assuming the case of damming up of flood water, discretization of the filtration area, velocity distribution and hydrodynamic grating and slip surfaces were developed. The variable parameter is the wall configuration
