Transportation Needs of Entrepreneurs in Wroclaw Agglomeration – Study Results
The article aims to present the results of research conducted by the International University of Logistics and Transport in Wroclaw on behalf of the Municipality of Wroclaw, concerning the demand for transportation among entrepreneurs in Wroclaw Agglomeration in the medium term (3 - 5 years). The essence of the study was to determine the volume of traffic generated by enterprises excluding intra-urban traffic and to provide additional information describing this movement in terms of dynamics and modes of transport used. The obtained results are compared to research conducted by J. Burnewicz (2007) regarding the projected demand for transport services in Poland until 2020
Strategies of Effective and Reactive Supply Chains
The article deals with the analysis and assessment of lean strategy as well as of Six Sigma and the Theory of Constraints applied in effective supply chain management. These concepts were found mutually complementary. Agile strategy, as well as its comparative assessment with lean strategy, were analyzed. Agile strategy's aspects of development in reactive supply chain management were discussed. Three kinds of supply chain processes and the corresponding strategies such as lean, agile and lean-agile were singled out. The article established that effective and efficient supply chain management based on agile strategy is conditioned by the preceding both geographically and chronologically lean processes implementation
Types of Computer Models in Spatial Planning
The complex nature of cities and regions need proper tools to explain how a particular phenomenon comes about or to help in building plans. Such a tool is a computer model that is able to simulate different aspects of processes occuring both in urban areas and in regions. The first attempt to apply computer modeling was in the 1960s. The aim of the paper is presentation the following types of models: transport-allocation models, cellular automata, multi-agent models and models related to Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
Combined (Intermodal) Transport Market in Poland in 1993-2009
From the early 90s combined transportation (based on standardized transportation and transshipment technologies) hasn't exceeded 3,5%2 of overall weight of loads transferred by railway in Poland. During the same period the share of that type of transport in overall railway transfers in European Union countries has made up from 10 to 20% and has a tendency to grow systematically. At the same time it should be emphasized that intermodal transportation in Poland has mainly resulted from the requirements of foreign contractors moving their freight in standardized unit loads. The scale of container transport is not large in the internal transport
Analysis and Assessment of Transport Potential of E70 Waterway
E70 waterway connecting Rotterdam with Kaliningrad is one of the longest navigation routes between east and west covered by the AGN agreement. Unfortunately, its Polish segment is virtually innavigable. The article presents characteristics and assesses transport availability of E70 waterway as well as attempts to estimate its transport potential
Multicriteria Evaluation of Designing Transportation System within Distribution Sub-Systems
The paper presents the problem of designing transportation system for goods distribution with usage of multicriteria decision supporting method. The general characteristic of transportation system as an element of distribution system was presented. Moreover, the distribution system was identified as a one of the most important elements of supply chain which aims in making products available in place and time matching client needs. In further part the problem was mathematically formalized to optimization task. Analyzing the problems of modeling conveying system forces claim that decisions taken within area of transport organization consist in solving complex decision problems. Complexity follows from the demand of best decision according to many aspects. Solution must ensure othe best realization of all partial criteria (aims) taken into account during decision making process. The article contains characteristics of methods of multicriteria evaluation with regard to short literature review. The emphasis was placed on ELEKTRA and MAJA methods which can be applied in the evaluation of complex decision problems in transportation systems. The last part of the article is verifies of presented issues by tneans of numerical experiment
Continuity of Entrepreneurial Activities and Enterprise Risk Management
An enterprise performs its activities within micro-, macro-and internal environment. The characters are subject of these environments and their consequences are many times in contradiction to defined enterprise objectives. The specific items are generally called risks. The risk is quantified as the multiplication of likelihood and the consequences of the specific event. There is optimal level of risk (generally) what is a compromise between the amount of risk and return/ invested capital. Intuitively this assumption is clear but the problem in practice is to answer/solve following questions: How to establish optimal level of risks? Is there only one level or is there a hierarchy of enterprise risks? How to evaluate/quantify risks and their consequences? Is there a set of relevant/irrelevant risks and under which criteria to define them? How to proceed to establish organizational structures responsible for/focused on risk management? Nowadays, an enterprise is facing to the following risks: globalization, loss of reputation, shortening of a product life cycle, new technologies, catastrophic events (natural catastrophes, catastrophes as the impact of man-made activities), different economic and non-economic risks active in interaction between an enterprise and its environment. Risks mentioned above are complex, while specific situation of an enterprise can be characterized by political, social, technological, technical and other features. All this says about "downsizing of entrepreneurial world" and "acceleration of the development", those threats existence and operation of an enterprise
An Analysis of Stochastic Inventory Control Models in Reverse Logistics Systems Based on a Periodic Review
In reverse logistics systems demand can be partially satisfied with new items manufacture or procurement and re-turned products value recovery. The products are brought back to the places where they are stored in most models presented in literature on reverse logistics. Value recovery processes are carried out in due time in order to meet the existing demand. Some part of returns can be disposed of. Inventory management has significant meaning in reverse logistics. This article's purpose is to present models being modifications of a classical inventory control model in a periodic review system. The first model of that kind was developed by Simpson in 1978. Guided by similar assumptions, Inderfurth, Kiesmuller, Minner and Cohen, among others, designed periodic review models as well
Selected Aspects of Model Approach to Logistics System of Poland
The paper presents selected aspects of an innovatory approach to formalization of a notation of Polish Logistics System regarding transport co-modality issue. The importance of external transport in logistics process implemented by Polish Logistics System was discussed. The preliminary identification of Polish Logistics System model elements and links between them were made. As a result the formalization of notation of Polish Logistics System structure was proposed
