Exploring Strategies for Developing Entrepreneurial Behavior of Students in Romanian Universities
Throughout this research paper we want to emphasize the correlations of theory and practice regarding the topic of the entrepreneurial university. The research combines a two-level approach by correlating both a qualitative-bibliometric analysis and a quantitative exploratory analysis. To identify the theoretical descriptors of the “entrepreneurial university” concept we performed a cluster analysis by using VOSviewer software selecting the published articles in the Scopus database since its beginning. The relevance of this analysis consists in the opportunity of extracting the most relevant information on the analyzed topic according to several criteria such as keywords, co-occurrence, co-citation, or publication topics by year. From this perspective the pieces of evidence are meaningful and we shall present them within the sections of the paper. On the other hand, for obtaining a practice grounded perspective, we applied 350 questionnaires to a target group involved in a university grant for young entrepreneurs. The purpose of the survey was to determine a series of characteristics and patterns of behavior of respondents related to their entrepreneurial orientation. The questionnaire contained a large number of variables for each individual to identify his/her distinct options and thus to draw the big picture. The variables were grouped into 6 dimensions which we identified as a priority for the entrepreneurial orientation framework: personal traits, motivation, attitude, framework conditions, and skills and knowledge. We statistically processed the survey data to identify the most meaningful correlations and interdependencies between the variables. The results of both research protocols are correlated and argued within the final section of the paper followed by conclusions and further research tracks
Ageing and responsible consumption
Multiple studies show that the contemporary society is increasingly more responsible and ask companies to prove responsible citizens, too. The current study aims to a better understanding of the role of age plans in responsible consumption attitudes and values. Investigating the literature in the field, including studies developed worldwide as well as on the Romanian market. The research documents that the younger adults are more responsible and greener than older persons. Nevertheless, the older the consumer, the more trustful in the personal impact of her/his consumption is. The older adults seem to be less inclined towards responsible buying. The available data also suggests that the age gap is closing, and older consumers tend to be increasingly more responsible
Sustainability and Financing: “The American Way of Life” – Switching Gears Towards a Sustainable Approach
The financialization of society has generated an ethos based on the desire for profit without ethical limits worldwide, leading to the destruction of natural ecosystems and cultures, and poverty and inequality. Moreover, the financial lack of control has led to the crisis of the system itself, not only economically but also environmentally, because financial capitalism is not sustainable, since it needs to grow indefinitely to maintain itself. Naturally, this is not feasible for the simple fact that we live in a closed system, with limits that cannot be surpassed, which is Earth. Therefore, the grounds of this article rely upon the following hypothesis: the strategy against financial capitalism and consumer society resides in the transformation of the “American way of life” into a sustainable lifestyle. First and foremost, the present article aims to describe and offer an in-depth perspective about what, in the specialized literature, is known under the name of “The American way of life”. Our main goal is to pinpoint some of its key features and try to offer, for each one of them, a sustainable counterpart. Hence, a systematic literature review of the subject matter has been carried out with a search for information in various media such as books, magazines, newspapers, and web pages. The main topics pondered were: political and economic news; critical philosophical thinking with capitalism; the history of ecology and current proposals; and conferences of international institutions related to sustainable development. Therefore, the article is structured as follows: the first part of the article aims to review the current situation, based on recent informative data, books on the main theme as well as documents from international organizations. Thus, an analysis of the role of culture in civilization is being carried out, focusing on the cultural model of capitalist civilization and the reasons for its crisis, throughout the literature review. Secondly, we try to explain why there is a global need to move towards sustainable development by analyzing the possibilities of evolution. Finally, we try to advocate for a sustainable-oriented paradigm of doing business, one that can help us redirect and reconfigure our business effort of growing and expanding, underpinning research and practice of sustainability and development. It is therefore essential to adopt a core framework for practice and research on human-environmental systems, to bridge gaps between science and practice – on one hand, and social, ecological, professional sciences - on the other hand
The Current Exchange Rate Regimes Effect’s on the Economic Growth: Case Studies of MENA Countries
This paper is an attempt to analyze the effects of current exchange rate regimes on the economic growth achieved by the MENA countries. To determine in a dynamic perspective new relationships that will be established between growth and exchange rate regimes, we are looking for an answer to two major concerns, namely: the question of the choice of the exchange rate regime and the question of the impact of this choice on economic performance. To reach our objective we first studied the theoretical and empirical literature of the exchange rate regime and then we had to study the evolution of the exchange rate regime in MENA countries. Then, we got an economic model based on the determinants of growth. The data used on this model takes the form of panel data for 5 MENA countries (Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, and Tunisia) for the period 1984-2019, as well as, several methods of modeling will be discussed, to finally adopt one from them that best applies to our research goal and shows several possibilities that can be used to apply this model in different ways depending on the country considered. The results reveal that it is very important to take into account the monetary policy framework that accompanies the exchange rate regime when assessing the effects of this regime on the overall performance of the economy
The Impact of the Mobile Money on People’s Use of Financial Services in Sub-Sahara Africa
This paper details the impact of mobile money financial technology on financial inclusion in Sub-Saharan Africa. The research methodology used was descriptive research design with the use of secondary information sources to collect panel data. The research model had Financial Technology as the independent variable and the dependent variable was Financial Inclusion. The analysis of data was done using Stata 15. From the interpretation of the findings using the panel data on the 14 selected Sub-Saharan countries, it was found that the increase in the number of registered mobile money agents per 100,000 adults led to an increase in the total number of people using the financial services per 100,000 adults in Sub-Sahara Africa. Furthermore, the relationship between the registered mobile money agents per 100,000 adults and the total number of people using financial services was proven to be significant at a 5% level of significance
Strategic Management Initiatives that Promote Organizational Performance
Organizational performance is broadly defined in the literature as a complex concept, which clusters a myriad of elements that promote performance in a modern organization. Previous empirical research has studied various strategic management initiatives and found that, separately, elements related to organizational culture, leadership, work environment, learning, change, innovation, and individual performance are influencing organizational performance. This study aims to connect various research models to identify and analyze the relationships between organizational culture, leadership, work environment, learning, change, innovation, and individual performance, on the one hand, and organizational performance on the other. This paper further shows that these variables are more effective when people are in the center of the organizational focus and suggests a model for the relationship process between these in a structured diagram.
Conceptual Atlas of the Knowmad Literature: Visual Mapping with VOSviewer
This research paper aims to contribute to the advancement of the knowmad concept understanding in the academic literature. The relevance of the knowmad worker is sustained by their skills and competencies aligned with the pre-announced requirements for competitiveness in the future business environment, where disruptive changes will become the norm. Knowmads are agile, flexible, determined, and overall resourceful to succeed. During COVID-19 pandemics, companies and employees worldwide have been facing one of the most disruptive events of our times that marked the acceleration of an already shifting paradigm: the migration from rigid work arrangements towards flexible ones. In the context where the knowmad worker assets are seen as the solution to a global crisis, and they continue to be seen as significant competencies for the future, we consider that a better understanding of the concept is currently required. This has been achieved in the present research project by conducting a systematic literature review, enhanced by text mining and scientific mapping analysis. Even though the notion of knowmad worker is relatively new in the knowledge management literature being presented by John Moravec only in 2008, novel research instruments are being used as an innovation factor. Considering the unprecedented access to information and advancements in conducting academic research, in the present landscape of the business research domain, new methods are available to structure and examine a body of literature. The text mining and scientific mapping analysis conducted with VOSviewer software version 1.6.16 is allowing us to identify meaningful insights about the knowmad concept, such as the (1) existing research gaps, the (2) future research directions – understood as the peaks and the valleys are defining our knowmad concept atlas – and (3) the research interest trends seen by this topic for the period between 2008 and 2021. To achieve this, a database derived from Web of Science’s core collection has been used, and the text mining based on term co-occurrence analysis contributed to a deeper understanding of current and future global workforce dynamics
The Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on the Banking Sector
The purpose of this paper is to contribute to the academic research in the management field, by exploring banking strategies implemented during complex crises, with a focus on the recent pandemic. To improve the comprehension of the economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic we analyzed the differences between the crisis from 2008-2009 and the crisis induced by the pandemic. The banking system has always been at the center of the crises, both in 2008 and in the 1930s, but this time the situation is different because, now, we are facing a crisis that is related to systemic health issues. In the previous crises, banks were considered as part of the problem, but this time they are perceived as part of the solution. This approach increases the role of banks in the coronavirus crisis and the strategies adopted by banks influence the whole economy. The pandemic has changed the world economy entirely and impacted tremendously most businesses. The banking system plays an essential role in this situation because it is a key component from an economic point of view. In recent years, the banking system has adapted continuously – it has been reinvented to keep up with customer expectations and the need for cost reductions. The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated digitalization in the banking system although, the need for innovation and digital strategies have been an important factor in banking even before the pandemic had started. We present furthermore an opinion based on a narrative literature review and a summary of the most important elements that redesign the banking system during the COVID-19 pandemic context. The literature regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and its implications for the banking system is still developing since the pandemic is an unfolding new experience for the world.
Advancing Strategic Management Through Sustainable Finance
In a VUCA world dominated by volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity as it is the case today, strategic management is redefined by the necessity to acquire strong organizational capabilities of agility and resilience, simultaneously with a prominent orientation toward adoption of measures destined to meet climate change and social challenges. The environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria are the new must when designing corporate programs, starting to be adopted by small and medium enterprises (SMEs) as well, but with different success rates. High-profile ESG programs tend to be launched and developed mainly by organizations that integrate them into evolving business models and strategies, thus translating gradually to sustainable strategic management frameworks. Nevertheless, to adopt sustainability in business requires concomitantly acquiring financial performance and having access to disposable financial capital. The paper explores the current challenges of sustainable strategic management in parallel with the academic discussions on shareholders’ value creation, investigating the relation with available sustainable investments’ practices. The long-term and short-term financial performance of sustainable business practices are investigated, as well as the orientation of professional investors regarding ESG programs, as presented in recent literature. The authors discuss the importance of knowledge in adopting sustainability in business, the organizational maturity in adopting sustainability in day-to-day activities, as well as the impact of regulatory stimulus and of financial performance on investing in ESG programs. Finally, the paper tackles the necessity to make available more financial resources alongside a gradual transformation of managerial mentalities oriented toward measurable and well-defined planned sustainable strategic management
Mexican Researchers Contributions to the World Scientific Publications
This paper highlights the importance of scientific publications produced by Mexican researchers in journals that are listed in Scopus and Web of Sciences (WoS). This research found that 98% of these publications were written by members of the National System of Researchers (SNI, by its acronym in Spanish), hence the importance of strengthening this organization. The paper also analyses the evolution of the funds that have been invested in science and technology; financing represented only 0.40% of the GDP (Gross Domestic Product) from 2000 to 2017. Therefore, it is concluded that such a variable is not determining enhancing scientific production among Mexican researchers. It is stated that per capita income growth within a country could improve the conditions for scientific production; however, in Mexico, this indicator was barely 0.8% annually; therefore, it is not a significant variable regarding the growth of Mexican publications. Mexico has gained importance in world science explained by a growth in the number of researchers and their willingness to participate in the production of knowledge
