    AKTIVITAS ANTIBAKTERI EKSTRAK DAN FRAKSI N-HEKSANA KULIT BUAH KAKAO (Theobroma cacao L.)

    This study aims to evaluate the antibacterial activity of the n-hexane extract and fraction of cocoa pod husk against Staphylococcus aureus. The antibacterial was tested using the paper disc diffusion method. The results showed that the extract inhibited bacterial with inhibition zones of 7.13 ± 0.29; 8.58 ± 0.14; 9.60 ± 0.87; and 10.97 ± 0.08 mm at concentrations of 1%, 5%, 10%, and 20%, respectively. The fractionation process produced 9 fractions and the 9th fraction showed the greatest inhibitory activity with inhibition zone diameters of 7.42 ± 0.03; 9.22 ± 0.03; 10.43 ± 0.03; and 11.83 ± 0.03 mm at concentrations of 1%; 5%; 10%; and 20% respectively. Phytochemical analysis and thin-layer chromatography (TLC) showed the presence of terpenoid and steroid compounds. Based on the antibacterial activity exhibited by the extract and fraction, this plant shows potential to be developed as a source of natural antibacterials

    Students' Mental Behavior in Solving Mathematical Problems Based on Mathematical Ability and High Cognitive Style

    Mental behavior is the activities that occur in a person's mind when solving mathematical problems. These activities are important to explore in problem solving, but exploration of activities is still rarely done by lecturers. This study aims to describe mental activities in solving mathematical problems of students who have high mathematical abilities and field independent (FI) and field dependent (FD) cognitive styles. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with the subjects of the study being mathematics education students at Syiah Kuala University in the 2023 academic year. Data collection techniques were carried out using problem-solving tests and interviews. Data analysis was carried out by data reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions. Data validity was carried out by time triangulation. The results of the analysis obtained mental activities in problem solving displayed by students with high mathematical abilities and FI cognitive styles were more complete than students with FD cognitive styles in the activities of reading questions, understanding questions, linking information and explaining solutions, but the mental activities displayed by FI were the same as FD at the calculation and manipulation stages.     This research aims to criticize the perspective of Sam Harris on which he built his philosophical and intellectual framework in his cognitive neuroscience-based interpretation of multiple philosophical concepts such as belief, disbelief, morality, and free will in his base research paper titled (Functional Neuroimaging of Belief, Disbelief, and Uncertainty). This research relied on description, analysis, and criticism. It describes Sam Harris’s core thoughts in his study on neuroimaging, and then analyzes them and states their purposes and implications. Then it criticizes his ideas, relying on two elements. First, the logical and philosophical and Kalam argumentations to criticize his ideas and to explain the flaws in his knowledge foundations. Second, relying on the neuroscientists’ views contradicting the theses in Harris’ paper besides general scientific criticism. The research concluded that consciousness precedes matter and not the opposite, and that belief is innate in the human mind from birth and is one of the so-called necessary-knowledge that cannot be refuted by material experiences. Thus, faith is an innate awareness and not a purely materialistic cognitive state that can be reduced, or abstracted, and its level cannot be measured by simply conducting tests through belief, disbelief, or uncertainty about written prepositions

    TEACHERS’ PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND REINFORCEMENT AT INTEGRATED ISLAMIC SCHOOLS IN INDONESIA

    The development of Integrated Islamic Primary Schools is in response to the society’s increasing demand for quality graduates. Thus, the emphasis on the effectiveness of learning in Integrated Islamic Primary Schools (IIPS) necessitates institutional innovation and teacher professionalism. This research investigates the professionalism in IIPS and determines the factors that contribute to teachers' professional practices. The study is qualitative with a phenomenological approach. This study employed the “Tarbiyah learning framework” developed by Abdurahman Al-Nahlawi, and the data were collected through in-depth interviews and observations to investigate the dimensions of teacher professionalism, teaching methodologies, and factors affecting teacher professionalism. The findings reveal that there is a mismatch between professional development initiatives and the actual conditions faced by students. Teaching-learning process that is responsive to students needs and characteristics, collaborative learning programs and supervision sctivities are all viable strategies. Teacher professionalism can be identified by demonstrating strong commitment and work discipline. The IIPS also provides structured training programs and collaborative partnerships with the education office to improve relevant teaching competencies and methodologies. Further, the social implications of this research include the availability of high-quality educational options for the community at the primary school level.     EFL pre-service teacher identity development during international teaching practicum program: A narrative study

    The international teaching practicum provides pre-service English teachers with opportunities to enhance their professional experiences and develop their teacher identity. This study explores the professional identity development of two Indonesian pre-service English teachers during a one-month teaching practicum in the Philippines, focusing on the factors shaping this process through the lens of teacher professional identity. The research centers on two students from the English Education Department at a private university in Yogyakarta. Employing a qualitative narrative approach, data were gathered through semi-structured interviews and analyzed thematically within the framework of teacher professional identity. Findings reveal that the practicum significantly advanced the participants’ professional identity across its key dimensions. Mentor teachers’ guidance, positive student relationships, and a supportive practicum environment were critical to this development. These results highlight the interplay between individuals and their environment, emphasizing the need for a nurturing setting to foster personal and professional growth

    Development of E-Module Based Physics Test Instrument: Multiple Choice Test

    The purpose of this study was to develop a question instrument and describe the validity of reliability, and item analysis. The research design used in developing the instrument is RnD with the 4D method. Based on the results of the analysis and discussion, it can be concluded that the results of expert validation meet the valid criteria. The empirical validity obtained states that it meets the validity criteria with a good category. The results of the reliability test on the product show that the test instrument is quite reliable. The results of the item analysis stated that the instrument was in the category of good difficulty level. In the analysis of item discrimination, there are 15 categories of questions that are feasible to maintain. In the analysis of item distractors, there are 15 questions with distractors that are accepted because they are good enough and there are 5 questions whose distractors are revised. This research is useful for knowing how the level of quality and effectiveness of the development of test instruments

    Effect of Aluminium Plate Layers and Electric Current on Pendulum Damping Time

    The pendulum is a classic oscillatory system commonly used in physics to study motion and damping phenomena. One notable damping mechanism is electromagnetic damping caused by eddy current induction. This study investigates the effects of varying the number of aluminium plate layers attached to the pendulum and the electric current supplied to a surrounding coil, which generates a magnetic field, on the pendulum damping time. An experimental approach was used by measuring the damping time across different combinations of plate layers and current levels. The data were analyzed to identify the relationship between these variables and the damping behavior of the pendulum. Results indicate a negative exponential relationship between the electric current and damping time, as well as a significant effect of aluminium plate layers on damping  efficiency.     Effectiveness of Integration of Exit Slips Formative Assessment in Problem Based Learning in Improving Critical Thinking Skills of High School Students on Heat Material

    This study was motivated by the need to address the lack of critical thinking skills among students in order to meet the demands of the 21st century. The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the effectiveness of integrating formative assessment in the form of Exit Slips into problem-based learning to improve students' critical thinking skills related to current issues. The research design used was quasi-experimental with matching only pretest posttest  control group, involving 69 eleventh-grade students in Bandung. Data were collected using the ACTA test for critical thinking, formative assessment called Exit Slips, and student questionnaires. Data analysis was conducted using the N-Gain test, effect size, and quantitative descriptive analysis. The results of the study showed a significant difference in the improvement of critical thinking skills between the experimental group and the control group, with N-Gain values in the moderate category and effect sizes in the high category. Student responses to the integration of Exit Slips formative assessment into problem based learning were also in the good category. Overall, the integration of Exit Slips formative assessment into problem-based learning was highly effective in improving critical thinking skills

    The Independent Curriculum is a development of the K13 curriculum that focuses on developing students' talents, potentials, and interests by digitizing learning with technology. This curriculum begins the Society 5.0 era, where technology dominates. The Independent Curriculum consists of four schools of educational philosophy, each of which has a different way of building a curriculum. One of them is the Reconstructionist philosophy. To find out what dominates the philosophy of education, the development of the independent curriculum must be reviewed from a Reconstructionist perspective. This will make it possible to determine the basis of the curriculum and its results. A qualitative method was used in this study. The primary source of this study came from scientific literature, while secondary sources came from supporting sources such as essays, papers, and interview results with teachers. The results of the study show that reconstructionism is an important component in changing the SDIT Irsyadul Ibad curriculum to the Independent Curriculum.     This study investigates learning difficulties in reading comprehension among primary school students using a neurolinguistic approach. The neurolinguistic approach focuses on the relationship between brain processes and language skills, aiming to align teaching strategies with how the brain processes language. A descriptive qualitative method was employed, with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and reading comprehension tests. The research subjects consisted of fourth and fifth grade students who faced barriers in reading comprehension. The results indicated that internal factors, such as attention disorders, limited vocabulary, and difficulties in mapping sentence structures, significantly affect reading comprehension. Additionally, external factors, including inadequate teaching methods and a lack of learning media, contribute to these difficulties. The study demonstrates that neurolinguistic strategies, such as visualization, repetition, and concept mapping, can improve students' comprehension by aligning teaching with cognitive processes. The findings suggest that neurolinguistic strategies may be effectively integrated into reading instruction to address comprehension challenges, offering a promising approach for enhancing reading skills in elementary education.
