Morning Routines as a Discipline-Oriented Character Education Mechanism in an Islamic Boarding Junior High School
This study aims to examine morning routine activities as a discipline-oriented character education mechanism at SMP Islam Al-Falah Rempoa Boarding School, South Tangerang. The research employed a qualitative descriptive case study approach, with data collected through observations, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis involving the school principal, vice principal for student affairs, vice principal for curriculum, Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers, duty teachers, and students. The findings indicate that morning routines are planned collaboratively, implemented through structured time–place arrangements and role distribution, and framed within an Islamic educational orientation. Consistent implementation is associated with discipline-related behaviors reflected in students’ rule compliance, punctuality, learning readiness, and responsibility in completing tasks, across both school and dormitory contexts as described in this study. However, student engagement varies, particularly in activities perceived as less interesting, suggesting the importance of routine refinement through activity variation and student-involving formats to strengthen intrinsic motivation. The study concludes that morning routines can function as an effective instrument of character education when systematically designed and supported by school stakeholders, while continuous evaluation is needed to address engagement differences.
Building Family Resilience Among Early Marriage Practitioners in North Bogor, Indonesia
The present study is motivated by the high potential for divorce among early marriage practitioners, as revealed in several previous studies. Therefore, efforts are needed to strengthen family resilience among young couples registered at the Office of Religious Affairs (Kantor Urusan Agama) in North Bogor, Indonesia. This research seeks to address two main questions what are the factors contributing to early marriage in KUA North Bogor, and what strategies can be employed to build family resilience among those who have entered early marriage in the area. This study adopts a field research design with a descriptive-analytic approach, combining normative legal and sociological perspectives. Data were collected through documentation and interviews with early marriage couples and marriage registrars (penghulu) at KUA North Bogor. The data were analyzed descriptively using the family resilience theory, which explains how families adapt to difficulties and life challenges. The findings reveal that early marriage in KUA North Bogor is influenced by five major factors: the desire to avoid zina (premarital sexual relations), religious belief and conviction, family influence, economic conditions, and educational attainment. Efforts to build family resilience among early marriage practitioners are implemented through four key dimensions: communication resilience, physical resilience, psychological resilience, and social resilience. This study provides practical implications for couples who have engaged in early marriage, helping them maintain household harmony and reduce the potential for conflict, domestic violence, and divorce
Women's Rights Protection Through Taklik Talak: A Response to Missing Person Problem in Sukahati Village, Bogor, West Java
This research discusses legal issues experienced by women as wives in Sukahati Village, Bogor, West Java. After marriage, their husbands left and never came back or disappeared. In most cases, they solve the problem by managing of what is colloquially called a "certificate of missing person," as a such kind of administrative legal procedure. However, the process of issuing the certificate is quite time-consuming, causing the wife who is left behind is increasingly experiencing losses, both materially and non-materially. The research discusses the facts how a woman as a wife tries to protect their rights when they were abandoned by their husband and stated legally as a missing person. Using non-doctrinal (empirical) legal research method based on both primary and secondary data, the research concludes that there are still many women as wives who do not understand how to solve problems when they are abandoned by their husbands as missing persons. There is a legal procedure, namely taklik talak, that can be used by women as wives when they experiencing problems with the loss of their husbands. Conceptually, taklik talak is intended to protect the interests of women as wives in a marriage bond
Suluk dan Cinta Ilahi: Kajian Psikospiritual Tentang Perubahan Emosi Negatif dan Positif pada Jamaah Suluk di Aceh
Mental health difficulties have become increasingly visible as individuals face social and emotional pressures that disrupt psychological stability. Within Islamic spiritual practice, suluk provides a structured setting for worship, dhikr, and guided reflection that may support emotional regulation. This study examines changes in anxiety, depression, and positive emotional states related to divine love among participants of a ten-day suluk retreat. A quantitative one-group pretest–posttest design was used with 58 participants at Darul Aman Islamic Boarding School, Aceh Besar, who completed an adapted version of the Mental Health Scale by Veit and Ware (1983). Paired sample t-tests were applied to assess score differences before and after the retreat. The results show significant reductions in anxiety (11.66 to 5.62; t = 14.433; p < 0.001) and depression (8.38 to 3.88; t = 10.684; p < 0.001), along with an increase in the love dimension (9.33 to 13.91; t = –9.746; p < 0.001). These findings suggest that suluk contributes to emotional adjustment by lowering psychological distress and strengthening positive spiritual affect. The study highlights the relevance of suluk as an Islamic-based psychospiritual practice that may support mental well-being in contemporary contexts.
Negotiating Qur’anic Interpretive Authority in the Age of Artificial Intelligence in Aceh
Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly used in Qur’anic learning through tools that search, translate, recommend, and generate explanatory outputs. While these technologies expand access to Qur’anic resources, they also raise questions about interpretive authority when religious meanings are mediated by automated systems. This study examines how boundaries for AI use are articulated in Qur’anic learning and interpretation in Aceh. Using a qualitative design, the research draws on semi-structured interviews with ulama affiliated with dayah (traditional Islamic boarding schools in Aceh). The data were analysed thematically to trace how authority was framed, where limits of use were drawn, and what educational risks were anticipated. The findings show that AI is generally regarded as mubaḥ for limited technical purposes, accompanied by iḥtiyat to safeguard aqidah and reduce uncritical reliance on machine-generated outputs. Interpretive credibility is understood to remain anchored in teacher-guided transmission through talaqqi and sanad, alongside the cultivation of adab and dirayah. AI is restricted from activities that resemble tafsir, particularly where contextual reasoning (including asbab al-nuzul), methodological discipline, and sustained engagement with the classical turath are required. Although AI offers practical benefits for teachers in preparation and administration, it is also associated with concerns about student dependency, weakened study discipline, and reduced engagement with demanding texts. The study shows how epistemic norms in ulum al-Qur'an are operationalised as practical boundaries that conditionally accommodate AI in Qur’anic learning while protecting interpretive authority in dayah contexts in Aceh
Institutionalizing Sabar Ngantri as a Life Philosophy at Baitul Makmur Islamic Boarding School in a Generation Alpha Context
This study examines how SANTRI, an acronym for sabar ngantri, is enacted as a locally grounded life philosophy at Pondok Pesantren Baitul Makmur in Metro, Lampung, within the Generation Alpha context. The study addresses recurring tensions in crowded routines, including line cutting, pushing, verbal disputes, and difficulty sustaining discipline during shared activities. A qualitative field-based study with a descriptive orientation was conducted. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using an interpretive approach with thematic coding and triangulation across sources. The main informant was an ustazdah responsible for supervising daily routines, complemented by student perspectives representing varied experiences in the boarding environment. The findings indicate that SANTRI is reinforced as an ethical discipline across core routines such as submitting Qur’anic recitations and classical text readings, performing ablution, taking meals, bathing, and practicing respect rituals such as sungkem and sowan to the kiai. In this setting, SANTRI supports emotional regulation and fairness by translating moral instruction into observable turn-taking behavior reinforced by caregivers and peers. The study presents SANTRI as a locally grounded model of character education that helps reduce everyday conflict while supporting communal stability in a dense pesantren environment shaped by the fast-paced habits associated with digitally socialized youth
Humanitarian Theology in Comparative Perspective: Gus Dur and Martin Luther King Jr. on Peace and Global Justice
This article examines the humanitarian thought of Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur) and Martin Luther King Jr. through a comparative analysis grounded in religious ethics, peacebuilding, and social justice. Both figures are widely recognized as religious leaders who translated faith-based commitments into concrete responses to injustice, yet they operated within distinct sociopolitical contexts and adopted different strategic approaches. This study employs qualitative library research and comparative content analysis to examine three analytical dimensions: theological foundations, core humanitarian principles, and the contexts in which those principles were implemented. The findings show that Gus Dur and King share a fundamental ethical convergence in treating religion as a public moral resource for defending human dignity, equality, and justice, as well as in rejecting violence as a legitimate means of social change. Gus Dur articulated humanitarian commitments through Islamic concepts such as rahmatan lil ‘alamin and al-maqasid al-shari‘ah, emphasizing pluralism, dialogue, and institutional reform within a multi-religious society. King grounded his humanitarian vision in Christian theology, particularly Imago Dei and agape, and advanced disciplined nonviolent action as a moral and strategic response to racial segregation and structural injustice. The analysis also reveals a significant divergence in operational strategy. Gus Dur primarily pursued reform through engagement with political and religious institutions, while King mobilized mass participation and moral pressure from outside the state. Read together, their approaches offer a complementary framework for contemporary humanitarian practice that links civic resistance with institutional responsibility. The study contributes to scholarship on religion-based peacebuilding by demonstrating how shared ethical commitments can generate different strategies shaped by political opportunity, social structure, and conflict configuration
Curriculum Integration and Epistemological Identity in Indonesian Madrasahs: A Post-Reform Analysis
Curriculum integration in Indonesian madrasahs has been promoted as a strategic policy to align Islamic education with the national education system in the post-Reform era. While this integration aims to strengthen institutional legitimacy and improve competitiveness, it also raises critical questions regarding the epistemological orientation and identity of madrasahs. This study examines curriculum integration in Indonesian madrasahs as an epistemological issue rather than merely a technical or administrative arrangement. Employing a qualitative library research design with a philosophical–analytical approach, this study analyzes national education policy documents—particularly Law Number 20 of 2003 and the Decree of the Minister of Religious Affairs (KMA) Number 183 of 2019—alongside relevant scholarly literature on Islamic education reform. The findings indicate that the frequently cited 70:30 proportion between general and religious subjects does not represent an explicit regulatory mandate, but rather functions as an analytical abstraction derived from the structural organization of the madrasah curriculum. Interpreted through Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas’s framework of the de-secularization (Islamization) of knowledge, the study reveals an epistemological tension in which general sciences tend to assume a dominant structural position, potentially positioning religious knowledge as supplementary. This condition reflects an identity dilemma shaped by the interaction between Islamic worldview–based education and policy-driven standardization. The study concludes that sustainable curriculum integration in madrasahs requires an epistemological foundation rooted in tawhid and adab to support holistic human development and prevent epistemological fragmentation
Experiences Of Emotional Abuse and Anxiety in Romantic Relationships Among Early Adults
Anxiety is a complex emotional response that is temporary and can vary in intensity depending on the situation faced by the individual. This study aims to determine the relationship between experiences of emotional abuse and levels of anxiety in young adults in Banjarmasin City. The approach used in this research is quantitative with a correlational design. A total of 100 respondents aged 18 to 25 years were selected using purposive sampling techniques. Data were obtained through a questionnaire containing two main scales: an anxiety scale adapted from the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), and an emotional abuse scale measured using The Multidimensional Measure of Emotional Abuse (MMEA). The results of the data analysis indicate a significant positive relationship between emotional abuse and anxiety (ρ = 0.573; p< 0.001), meaning that the higher the emotional abuse experienced, the higher the level of anxiety in individuals. These findings highlight the importance of education, early detection, and awareness regarding emotional abuse to foster healthy relationships in early adulthood.
