Codification of Islamic Law in Comparative Perspective: Between Tradition and Modernity
This paper examines the transformation of Islamic law through the process of codification from a comparative legal perspective. While classical Islamic law was traditionally pluralistic, jurist-driven, and uncodified, modern developments, especially since the 19th century, have seen states systematically incorporate Islamic legal principles into codified legal systems. The study explores how codification, influenced by European civil law models, reshapes the epistemology and authority of Islamic law, shifting interpretation from scholars to state actors. Through comparative case studies such as the Ottoman Majalla, Egypt, Iran, Malaysia, and Indonesia, the paper illustrates diverse models of codification ranging from centralized statutory codes to non-legislative presidential directives. The analysis highlights key debates around legal pluralism, gender reform, and the tension between tradition and state centralization. Codification, the paper argues, is not merely a legal technique but a transformative process that redefines the relationship between divine law and state sovereignty, producing hybrid legal systems that negotiate between Islamic authenticity and modern legal rationality
Interest in Waqf Among Gen Z: The Role of Technological Literacy and Digital Waqf Innovation
The development of digital technology in the modern era has brought significant changes to various aspects of life, including in the field of Islamic philanthropy such as waqf. Generation Z, as the digital generation, has great potential to drive the development of waqf, particularly through the utilization of technology and digital innovation. This study aims to investigate the influence of Technology Literacy and Digital Waqf Innovation on the Interest in Waqf among Generation Z. The study employs a quantitative approach using multiple linear regression analysis and classical assumption tests, conducted on 100 student respondents. Primary data was collected through an online questionnaire. The results indicate that both Technology Literacy and Digital Waqf Innovation have a positive and significant influence on Interest in Waqf, both partially and simultaneously. The coefficient of determination (Adjusted R Square) value of 58.3% indicates that both independent variables contribute strongly to the dependent variable, while the remainder is influenced by other factors not examined in this study. These findings suggest that enhancing understanding of technology and innovation in the management of digital endowments can stimulate interest in endowments among Generation Z
Ecotourism as a Driver for Sustainable Waste Management and Environmental Conservation in Lhokseumawe, Indonesia
This study evaluates the role of ecotourism as a strategy for promoting sustainable waste management in environmentally friendly tourist destinations in Lhokseumawe City, Aceh. Research using qualitative methods was conducted with a case study approach in several tourist destinations that have implemented ecotourism concepts, such as community-based waste management and the use of environmentally friendly technology. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and a literature review, complemented by questionnaires administered to explore the perceptions of tourists, local communities, and business actors regarding the effectiveness of, and support for, sustainable waste management policies. The findings indicate that the implementation of ecotourism has not yet played a significant role in improving waste management effectiveness in tourist areas. Ecotourism principles have not been comprehensively applied; as a result, destinations have not succeeded in maintaining environmental cleanliness, attracting sustainability-conscious visitors, or fostering synergy between local communities and the government. Although tourists and local residents generally responded positively to these initiatives and expressed support for ecotourism-based waste management policies, many still perceive waste management as primarily the responsibility of the government. This study contributes to the literature on sustainable waste management and may serve as a reference for policymakers and tourism practitioners seeking to enhance environmental quality through an ecotourism approach
Improving Educational Statistics on HOTS Through Religious Moderation and Cognitive Test
This study aims to determine the development and effectiveness of cognitive test instruments to train students' higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) in educational statistics courses. The method employed is research and development (R&D) based on the ADDIE model, which includes analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The research sample was purposively selected, consisting of PGMI students at Universitas Islam Negeri Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten who were enrolled in educational statistics courses. The research findings indicate that lecturers need to refine syllabi according to the specified curriculum, develop cognitive test instrument grids in the form of questions with indicators, and design statistical questions based on religious moderation using the ADDIE model. The development of cognitive test instruments based on religious moderation is effectively used to measure higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) in educational statistics for students. The implications of this research highlight efforts to train students' higher-order thinking skills through educational statistics based on religious moderation using cognitive test instruments
Basic Physics Module Based on Religious Moderation Values: Urgency, Validity, Practicality
Religious moderation has a high urgency applied in learning both in universities and schools. The students as agents of change need to be instilled with the religious moderation values so that they have awareness of caring for diversity in Indonesia. The basic physics module based on religious moderation values was developed considering that there are still limited teaching modules in Basic Physics courses that support students' religious moderation values. The aims of the research are: (1) to understand the process of developing the basic physics module based on religious moderation values; and (2) determine validity and practicality level of the basic physics module based on religious moderation values. This research was R & D with 4D model consists of four stages, namely define (curriculum review and needs analysis), design (module design), develop (validation of module with expert validators), and disseminate (testing student and lecturer responses). There are two aspects identified namely validity and practicality. The novelty of the research is integrating religious moderation values into the basic physics module. The assessment results by expert validators show that the basic physics module based on religious moderation values is very valid and very practical to use. Future researchers are advised to involve more subjects from other universities
Validity of a Project Based Learning Based Physics Teaching Module on Dynamic Fluids to Enhance Students’ Creative Thinking
This study develops a physics teaching module based on Project-Based Learning (PjBL) integrated with a deep learning approach to improve students’ creative thinking in dynamic fluid concepts. The development addresses the limited exploration and investigative learning opportunities caused by teacher-centered instruction. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) design using the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate), with implementation focused on the Develop stage. Three expert validators assessed the module’s validity, while practicality was evaluated through One to One and Small Group Evaluations involving eleventh-grade students. Validation scores were 80% to 100%, which means very high validity in form of content correctness, presentation good appearance, and language design. Utility percentage scores were as high as 89.63% and 91.8%, which was rated very useful. These results demonstrate that the module is user friendly, fun and useful to lead students through project work with supported reflection tasks. This makes the module as a valid teaching materials and easy to use in Merdeka Curriculum.
The Influence of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) Model Based on Local Wisdom on Students' Physics Learning Outcomes at SMAN 8 Banda Aceh
Low physics learning outcomes in high school are often caused by teacher-centered learning that does not relate the material to real life or local culture. This study aims to determine the effect of the contextual teaching and learning (CTL) model based on local wisdom on the physics learning outcomes of students at SMAN 8 Banda Aceh. The population of this study was all 10th grade IPAS students, using random sampling. Grade X IPAS 2 became the research sample. Data were collected through learning outcome tests and observations. Data analysis used normality tests (Shapiro Wilk), N-Gain tests, and t-tests (paired sample tests). The average pretest score was 23.1, while the average posttest score was 83.83. Furthermore, the results of the hypothesis test using the t-test showed that tcount ≥ ttable (5.45 ≥ 1.699) (α = 0.05), so it was concluded that the contextual teaching and learning (CTL) model based on local wisdom had a significant effect on improving students’ physics learning outcomes. Observations of the implementation of the first meeting reached 88.812 and the second meeting reached 88.49, indicating that students were more motivated and understood the concepts better. Thus, contextual teaching and learning (CTL) based on local wisdom effectively improves students’ physics learning outcomes
Students’ Level of Awareness in the Practice of Jinayah Knowledge at Universitas Islam Negeri Alauddin, Makassar: Perspectives from Islamic Law and Islamic Education
Law that regulates human activities in daily life is one of the essential aspects to be studied, including Islamic law. This is particularly relevant for students of the Islamic Religious Education Program at the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, UIN Alauddin Makassar, who study fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), especially jinayah (crime), and are therefore considered to have sufficient understanding and are expected to practice this knowledge in the form of observable behavior. This study employed a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative methods within a single study to obtain a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the research phenomenon. The quantitative data were collected from questionnaires, while the qualitative data were derived from interview results and relevant literature related to the research focus. The findings indicate that students’ practice of their knowledge falls within the moderate category, with a percentage of 66.67%. The effectiveness of law enforcement depends on legal norms, legal structures, and legal awareness. In this context, however, legal awareness becomes the primary aspect, as with legal awareness students are able to behave properly without engaging in actions that contradict or violate the law. Therefore, within the context of Islamic law, public awareness, more specifically students’ awareness, serves as the key factor determining whether the law operates effectively or not. In addition, in the context of Islamic education, an individual’s knowledge plays a significant role in shaping legal awareness
