Libraries as Digital Literacy Spaces for Muslims: Challenges and Opportunities in Contemporary Islam
The development of digital technology demands that Muslims possess adequate digital literacy skills to understand and utilize religious information critically and responsibly. In this context, libraries play a strategic role as digital literacy spaces that provide trusted sources of Islamic information grounded in scholarly traditions. This study aims to examine the role of libraries as digital literacy spaces for Muslims from a contemporary Islamic perspective. The study employed a literature review method with a descriptive qualitative approach through a review of relevant literature. The results indicate that the digital transformation of libraries further strengthens their role in enhancing digital literacy and fostering a moderate and contextual understanding of Islam. Despite challenges such as the digital literacy gap and limited curated collections, digital libraries offer significant opportunities for equitable access to knowledge and the preservation of Islamic scholarly treasures.
Perkembangan teknologi digital menuntut umat Islam memiliki kemampuan literasi digital yang memadai agar dapat memahami dan memanfaatkan informasi keagamaan secara kritis serta bertanggung jawab. Dalam konteks ini, perpustakaan memegang peran strategis sebagai ruang literasi digital yang menyediakan sumber informasi keislaman yang tepercaya dan berpijak pada tradisi keilmuan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji peran perpustakaan sebagai ruang literasi digital umat Islam dalam perspektif Islam kontemporer. Penelitian menggunakan metode studi pustaka dengan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif melalui penelaahan literatur yang relevan. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa transformasi perpustakaan ke arah digital semakin memperkuat perannya dalam meningkatkan literasi digital serta membangun pemahaman keislaman yang moderat dan kontekstual. Meskipun dihadapkan pada tantangan seperti kesenjangan literasi digital dan keterbatasan koleksi yang terkurasi, perpustakaan digital memiliki peluang besar dalam pemerataan akses pengetahuan dan pelestarian khazanah keilmuan Islam
ETIKA PENGGUNAAN CHATGPT DALAM PENDIDIKAN DAN EKONOMI ISLAM: TINJAUAN MAQASID AL-SHARI’AH
Abstract
This study examines the ethical implications of ChatGPT usage in Islamic higher education, especially within the domains of Islamic economics and Sharia-based finance. As generative AI tools gain popularity among students and educators, they present both educational support potential and ethical challenges - including risks of plagiarism, diminished critical thinking, religious misinformation, and excessive technological dependence. Adopting a qualitative exploratory approach, this research integrates library studies with expert interviews involving scholars in Islamic economic thought and Islamic banking.
To enrich the analysis, a machine learning-based text similarity comparison was conducted between ChatGPT’s responses and expert opinions on selected topics. This comparative analysis quantitatively measured content alignment, revealing high levels of similarity (85–90%) in Sharia banking discourse and over 90% in Islamic economic fundamentals. The study employs both thematic analysis and normative evaluation grounded in Maqasid al-Shari’ah, focusing on the preservation of religion (ḥifẓ al-dīn), upholding intellectual integrity (ḥifẓ al-ʿaql), and protection of the soul/life (ḥifẓ al-nafs).
The results demonstrate that ChatGPT can be a valuable academic support tool, yet it must be used with critical supervision and scholarly validation. The paper concludes by emphasizing the urgent need for Islamic higher education institutions to develop AI ethics guidelines that are contextually rooted in Sharia principles, ensuring that AI integration enhances rather than compromises Islamic educational integrity
Dayah MUDI Samalanga in Aceh: Teungku Authority, Sociocultural Religion, and the Popularity of an Islamic Education Center
This study examines Dayah MUDI Samalanga as an Islamic education center within the sociocultural context of Aceh, focusing on teungku authority and the institution’s contemporary popularity. While modernization and digital communication are often assumed to weaken traditional religious authority, this article argues that teungku authority persists and is rearticulated through institutional visibility, community engagement, and media practices. Employing a qualitative approach using virtual ethnography (netnography), the study analyzes publicly accessible institutional digital content—including the official website, social media platforms, and video-based channels—alongside relevant literature to trace how authority and institutional identity are narrated in online public spaces. The findings show that teungku authority remains a key source of legitimacy for Dayah MUDI, constructed through scholarly credibility, symbolic positioning, and continuity of religious traditions. The popularity of Dayah MUDI is shaped by the interaction of leadership authority, institutional branding, educational modernization (including the expansion of higher education initiatives), and sustained media visibility through social media and institutional broadcasting channels. Digital media therefore function not merely as communication tools but as arenas where religious authority and institutional identity are publicly reproduced and extended beyond local communities. This study contributes to discussions on religious authority, Islamic education, and digital mediation by demonstrating that dayah institutions actively negotiate continuity and change in contemporary socioreligious environments.
Abstrak
Penelitian ini mengkaji Dayah MUDI Samalanga sebagai pusat pendidikan Islam dalam konteks sosiokultural Aceh, dengan menyoroti otoritas teungku serta popularitas institusi tersebut pada masa kini. Di tengah asumsi bahwa modernisasi dan komunikasi digital cenderung melemahkan otoritas keagamaan tradisional, artikel ini berargumen bahwa otoritas teungku tetap bertahan dan mengalami reartikulasi melalui visibilitas institusional, keterlibatan komunitas, serta praktik-praktik media. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif melalui etnografi virtual (netnografi), penelitian ini menganalisis konten digital institusional yang dapat diakses publik, meliputi situs web resmi, platform media sosial, dan kanal berbasis video, serta literatur relevan untuk menelusuri bagaimana otoritas dan identitas institusi dinarasikan dalam ruang publik daring. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa otoritas teungku tetap menjadi sumber legitimasi utama bagi Dayah MUDI, yang dibangun melalui kredibilitas keilmuan, peneguhan simbolik, dan kesinambungan tradisi keagamaan. Popularitas Dayah MUDI dibentuk oleh interaksi antara otoritas kepemimpinan, praktik branding institusional, modernisasi pendidikan (termasuk ekspansi inisiatif pendidikan tinggi), serta visibilitas media yang berkelanjutan melalui media sosial dan kanal penyiaran institusional. Media digital, karenanya, berfungsi bukan semata sebagai alat komunikasi, tetapi juga sebagai arena reproduksi otoritas keagamaan dan identitas institusi, sekaligus memperluas jangkauan pengaruhnya melampaui komunitas lokal. Studi ini berkontribusi pada diskusi tentang otoritas keagamaan, pendidikan Islam, dan mediasi digital dengan menunjukkan bahwa dayah secara aktif menegosiasikan kesinambungan dan perubahan dalam lingkungan sosioreligius kontemporer
Evaluating the Effectiveness of Legal Support for Women's Post-Divorce Rights: Maslahah Approach in Indonesia and Malaysia
The purpose of this study is to analyze and compare the fulfillment of women's post-divorce rights in Indonesia and Malaysia through the lens of maslahah (general welfare). The research specifically examines rights such as nafkah iddah and mut'ah, as well as the challenges associated with their implementation in both countries. A qualitative methodology with an empirical juridical approach was employed, relying on in-depth interviews with judges in Indonesia's religious courts and officials and community leaders in Malaysia, supplemented by observations and document analysis. Data were analyzed using a flow model that included data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that Malaysia’s legal system, supported by the Family Support Division (BSK), more effectively secures women's post-divorce rights compared to Indonesia, where, despite the protective provisions of SEMA No. 2 of 2019, women continue to face complex legal procedures and high execution costs. The originality of this study lies in its comparative approach and application of maslahah theory to assess women’s welfare within family law in two Muslim-majority countries. The study implies that Indonesia's legal system could benefit from reform by incorporating elements of Malaysia's institutional support structures, enhancing women’s access to their rights post-divorce, and promoting a more equitable system for women’s welfare
The Kaago-Ago Tradition of the Muna Tribe in Southeast Sulawesi from the Perspective of Islamic Legal Anthropology
The dialectic between Islamic law and customary law continues in Indonesian communities. Islam brought with it the value of harmonizing theoretical and practical concepts, so that religion does not exist in a cultural vacuum. This study aims to explain the practice of the kaago-ago ritual for the Muna community in Southeast Sulawesi. This research is an empirical study analyzed using the theory of Islamic legal anthropology. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and document studies. The results show that the kaago-ago ritual is carried out as a medium for conducting cross-dimensional negotiations with supernatural beings to request permission to open plantation land for the Muna community in Southeast Sulawesi. The 'urf study argues that the kaago-ago ritual does not qualify as customary law according to sharia, because the ritual contains no benefits, is contrary to common sense, and contradicts the qath'i text. This ritual phenomenon certainly requires Muslim scholars worldwide to continue striving to carry out ijtihad regarding the integration of tradition and Islamic legal provisions. This article's study of the anthropological conception of Islamic law finds novelty that in the kaago-ago tradition there is a dialectic between Islamic teachings and tradition as well as between humans and nature which aims to find harmony and order as the function of law in society
The Social Construction and Symbolic Value of the Uang Basuh Kaki in the Wedding Tradition of the Koto Balingka Community: A Maqāṣid al-Sharia Perspective on the Protection of Wealth and Family
This study examines the social construction and values associated with the Uang Basuh Kaki tradition in the wedding ceremonies of the Koto Balingka community in Pasaman Barat Regency, West Sumatera, Indonesia. Uang Basuh Kaki is a symbolic element in traditional marriage customs that represents respect and appreciation toward the bride’s family. This tradition is considered essential in maintaining social and familial harmony. Using the Maqāṣid al-Sharia approach, this research examines the aspects of wealth (ḥifẓ al-mal) and family (ḥifẓ al-nasl) within this tradition. Maqāṣid al-Sharia, as a theoretical framework, helps in understanding how the Uang Basuh Kaki tradition functions not only as a cultural practice but also aligns with Islamic objectives in preserving family welfare, social cohesion, and economic justice within the community. This study employs a qualitative methodology, incorporating in-depth interviews and participatory observations within the local society. The findings reveal that the Uang Basuh Kaki tradition holds complex meanings, both in terms of customary and Islamic perspectives, serving as a social mechanism to maintain economic balance and strengthen familial bonds within the community. This study highlights the importance of integrating local cultural understanding with Islamic values, as well as its broader implications for social and economic life within societ
Actualizing Sufi Values for the Moral Formation of Qur’an Memorizing Students: A Case Study at Al-Huffaazh, Simalungun
This study analyzes the actualization of students’ morality through the perspective of Sufism at the Tahfizh Qur’an Al-Huffaazh Foundation in Perdagangan, Simalungun Regency. Utilizing a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis. The findings demonstrate that the internalization of Sufi values—such as sincerity (ikhlas), patience (sabar), trust in God (tawakkal), and humility (tawadhu)—is authentically manifested in the students’ daily lives through habitual practice, exemplary conduct, and sustained supervision. These values significantly shape students’ character, enhance the quality of Qur’anic memorization, and foster both religious discipline and everyday behavior. Nonetheless, challenges exist, both internal (e.g., peer influence) and external (e.g., gadget usage, social media, and romantic relationships). The foundation has implemented adaptive strategies, including restricting mobile phone usage, optimizing halaqah (group mentoring), individualized guidance, and collaborating with parents to address these issues. The study underscores the urgency of an innovative, collaborative Sufi-based moral education model as a solution for nurturing Qur’anic generations with noble character in the digital era
URGENSI PENDIDIKAN AGAMA ISLAM DALAM PEMBENTUKAN KARAKTER SISWA SEKOLAH DASAR
Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk memberikan gambaran terkait dengan urgensi Pendidikan agama islam dalam pembentukan karakter siswa sekolah dasar. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan ialah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan menggunakan pendekatan kajian literatur. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti mengumpulkan berbagai sumber literature yang berkaitan dengan pokok pembahasan, seperti buku, jurnal, artikel, dan dokumen resmi. Hasil penelitian menunjukan Pendidikan agama islam berperan penting bagi pengembangan pada karakter siswa di sekolah dasar, penanaman nilai-nilai Islam, dan penanaman akhlak yang baik. Melalui pembelajaran Islam, siswa memahami konsep-konsep agama, bertindak jujur dan bertanggung jawab, serta saling menghormati. Peran guru agama Islam penting dalam membimbing siswa dalam penerapan ajaran Islam. Mempelajari Islam membantu siswa memahami sejarah Islam dan pentingnya identitas agama, urgensi PAI terhadap pengembangan karakter siswa sekolah menengah adalah mengembangkan manusia yang memiliki rasa tanggung jawab dan akhlak mulia.Kata Kunci : PAI, Karakter, Sisw

Gender issues have many problems, one of which is gender inequality which causes a lot of debate among society, where women are often disadvantaged. This research aims to answer various kinds of problems regarding gender equality. This research is qualitative research with a library research type of research and the analysis used uses comparative analysis by comparing events directly or with literature. Research result; 1) Gender is something within humans that is created unnaturally, can be changed, can be created and created by a society. Sex is something that exists from birth, is given by God, is natural and cannot be changed. 2) Gender equality is the existence of equality between men and women in gaining access, participation, control and benefits in all activities. Meanwhile, gender justice is a process towards equality. 3) Three forms of studies that examine gender in Islamic studies, namely; research that starts from pure studies, research that starts from studies of social science and humanities approaches, research that starts from studies that map gender issues
PENGEMBANGAN LEMBAR KERJA PESERTA DIDIK SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, AND MATHEMATICS (STEM) BERBASIS KEWIRAUSAHAAN UNTUK PROYEK KARTU MENU INFORMASI GIZI BUAH
The absence of worksheets that can encourage students' entrepreneurial spirit and promote the process of activity is one of the difficulties in implementing STEM education. The purpose of this study is to provide Student Worksheets (LKPD) for menu card projects that include details on the nutritional value of fruit and are based on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). The research and development technique is used in this study. The analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation phases are all included in the ADDIE development framework. Nevertheless, this article is restricted to the stage of development. A needs analysis questionnaire and a LKPD product quality assessment sheet were used as instruments for data collection. The findings demonstrated that the average scores for the expert validity evaluation of LKPD for face validity and content validity were 92.5% and 90%, respectively. With a very valid category, the overall validation result for the STEM-based LKPD combined with entrepreneurship is 91.25%. Consequently, experiments can be conducted using the created LKPD
