    Politeness Strategies in the EFL Classroom: A Pragmatic Analysis of Teacher-Student Interaction

    This study examines the politeness strategies used in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms, with a focus on teacher-student interactions at St. Gabriel Senior High School, in Maumere. Adopting a descriptive qualitative approach, the study integrates Brown and Levinson’s (1987) politeness theory with Sack, Schegloff, and Jefferson’s (1974) conversation analysis. Data were collected through observations, field notes, audio recordings, transcripts, and questionnaires. To identify politeness strategies, thematic analysis was used, combined with Conversation Analysis to examine interactional features of the data. The analysis revealed that teachers predominantly used positive politeness and bald on record strategies to balance authority, clarity, and rapport. Positive politeness was evident in greetings, praise, empathy, and encouragement, while bald on record strategies were employed for instructional clarity and classroom management. Students frequently demonstrated negative politeness through short, respectful responses that indicated acknowledgement of the classroom hierarchy. CA revealed key interactional features, such as turn taking control, adjacency pairs, repair sequences, and pedagogically functional interruptions. Questionnaire results further confirmed students’ positive perception, which indicating that politeness strategies contributed to comfort, confidence, and active participation. These findings highlight the importance of politeness strategies in ensuring harmonious interactions, promoting engagement, and enhancing the pedagogical atmosphere in EFL settings

    Investigating the Deep Learning Approach and Lampung Cultural Values (Piil Pesenggiri): A Theoretical and Cultural Analysis

    This conceptual paper investigates how the deep learning approach articulated in the New Pedagogies for Deep Learning (NPDL) framework can be theoretically and culturally aligned with Indonesian national graduate profiles, recent Indonesian government formulations of Pembelajaran Mendalam (PM), and the Lampung cultural philosophy of Piil Pesenggiri in the context of English language teaching (ELT). Drawing on document analysis of NPDL texts, Indonesian curriculum and policy documents, the Academic Paper on Deep Learning, scholarly discussions of graduate profiles, and regional literature on Piil Pesenggiri, the study develops a tri-level comparison between global, national, and local frameworks. The analysis shows that NPDL’s six global competencies-character, citizenship, collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking-broadly converge with Kemendikdasmen’s holistic, competency-based vision of graduates and with national deep learning discourse, which combines knowledge, skills, character, and citizenship in integrated graduate profiles. At the local level, core elements of Piil Pesenggiri such as juluk adok, nemui nyimah, nengah nyappur, and sakai sambayan provide cultural resources that can support the social, ethical, and collaborative dimensions of deep learning, while also generating tensions around honour, face, hierarchy, and group harmony. The paper argues that, when these convergences and tensions are explicitly recognised, ELT classrooms in Lampung can be designed as spaces for deep learning projects that develop the 6Cs through locally meaningful themes, tasks, and interaction norms. The study concludes by outlining principles for culturally responsive, deep learning-oriented ELT and by suggesting directions for future empirical research on the localisation of global pedagogies and national deep learning reforms in Indonesian schools

    Epistemological Obstacles in Solving PISA Adapted Problems on System of Linear Equations In Two Variables

    This study aims to identify and analyze the epistemological obstacles encountered by junior high school students when solving PISA-based mathematical literacy problems on the topic of System of Linear Equations in Two Variables (SLETV), viewed from the perspective of PISA competency levels. The research seeks to contribute to the development of more effective mathematics instruction. This study is deemed essential because epistemological obstacles can hinder students' ability to apply mathematical concepts in real-world contexts an ability that is central to international assessments such as PISA. A qualitative approach was employed through Didactical Design Research (DDR), involving 23 ninth-grade students. Data were collected through a written test consisting of a mathematical literacy problem adapted from PISA items, and supported by interviews and classroom observations. The data were analyzed using qualitative descriptive methods, focusing on students’ thinking processes and emerging error patterns. The findings reveal that students encounter various epistemological obstacles across all PISA competency levels (1b to 6), such as conceptual misconceptions, procedural errors, and difficulties in translating contextual information. At the lower levels (1b–3), students struggled to formulate basic algebraic models and perform arithmetic operations. At the higher levels (4–6), they experienced challenges in handling complex calculations, verifying solutions, and applying reasoning in abstract or multi-step situations. These obstacles stem from fragmented prior knowledge, limited exposure to contextual problems, and a lack of reflective habits. This study highlights the importance of integrating authentic real-world problems, providing systematic scaffolding, and fostering continuous self-verification practices in instructional design. The findings offer practical insights for developing targeted pedagogical interventions to enhance students' mathematical literacy and better prepare them to tackle SLETV problems in contexts similar to those featured in PISA

    Effectiveness of Traditional Game-Based Learning: using Panjat Pinang Context to Improve Students’ Mathematical Modelling Skills

    This study aims to develop a context-based Learner Worsheet (LKPD) on comparison material using the traditional game of panjat pinang to enhance the mathematical modelling skills of seventh-grade junior high school. The research employed a design research approach with the Tessmer model, consisting of preliminary and formative evaluation stages. Instrument included expert validation sheets (to assess content, construct, and language), practicality questionnaires, and a mathematical modelling ability test (covering understanding tasks, mathematising, working mathematically, and explaining results). Data analysis involved calculating percentage scores for validity and practicality, along with descriptive analysis of students’ mathematical modelling performance. The results indicate that the LKPD achieved high validity with an average score of 84,77% and good practicality with an average score of 81,25%. Field testing demonstrated its potential to improve students’ performance in all four stages of mathematical modelling. In conclusion, integrating panjat pinang as a cultural context creates meaningful learning experiences, making the concept of comparison more accessible and engaging. The LKPD can serve as an effective alternative mathematics teaching material and a reference for developing other culturally relevant resources.

    Game-Based Learning Utilised Kahoot! Application for Mathematics Literacy and Motivation Among Primary Students: Experimental Study

    This study explores how game-based learning using the Kahoot! application can enhance mathematics literacy and learning motivation among primary school students. Employing a quantitative experimental approach, the research involved two student groups: the experimental group engaged in math lessons incorporating Kahoot!, while the control group received conventional teacher-centered instruction. A total of sixty elementary students took part in the study. To evaluate outcomes, mathematics literacy was assessed through pre-tests and post-tests, while a motivation questionnaire gauged students' engagement and attitudes toward learning math. The findings showed that the experimental group experienced significantly greater gains in both mathematics literacy and motivation. The interactive, game-like nature of Kahoot! created a more enjoyable and participatory learning atmosphere, promoting better understanding of mathematical concepts. These results indicate that game-based learning tools like Kahoot! can enhance academic performance and foster a more positive attitude toward mathematics. The study underscores the potential of digital learning innovations to make classrooms more interactive and student-focused, ultimately supporting the development of key mathematical skills in primary education

    PEMBERDAYAAN BUMDES BERBASIS TEKNOLOGI DIGITAL: STRATEGI PENGEMBANGAN PRODUK BEKATUL DAN MANAJEMEN USAHA DI DESA TIMORENG PANUA

    Abstrak: Program pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilaksanakan di BUMDes TP Mandiri yang menghadapi permasalahan dalam tata kelola kelembagaan, inovasi produk, dan strategi pemasaran. Potensi lokal berupa bekatul selama ini belum dimanfaatkan optimal, padahal memiliki peluang besar untuk diolah menjadi produk bernilai tambah. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah meningkatkan kapasitas BUMDes melalui strategi pengembangan produk bekatul dan pemanfaatan teknologi digital untuk pemasaran. Metode yang digunakan meliputi sosialisasi, pelatihan manajemen, workshop inovasi produk berbasis bekatul, dan pendampingan digital marketing dengan e-catalog serta media sosial. Mitra kegiatan adalah pengelola BUMDes dan pelaku UMKM lokal berjumlah 20 orang. Evaluasi dilakukan dengan pre-test dan post-test, observasi keterampilan, serta monitoring peningkatan penjualan. Hasil menunjukkan peningkatan pengetahuan manajemen sebesar 75%, keterampilan pengolahan bekatul menjadi produk pangan meningkat 68%, serta keterampilan pemasaran digital naik hingga 70%. Selain itu, omzet usaha BUMDes meningkat rata-rata 25% dalam tiga bulan pendampingan. Kegiatan ini terbukti efektif memperkuat daya saing UMKM desa melalui integrasi inovasi produk dan pemasaran digital.Abstract: This community service program was implemented at BUMDes TP Mandiri, which faces challenges in institutional governance, product innovation, and marketing strategies. The local potential in the form of rice bran has not been optimally utilized, despite its significant opportunities to be processed into value-added products. The aim of this program is to strengthen BUMDes capacity through strategies for developing rice bran–based products and utilizing digital technology for marketing. The methods included socialization, management training, workshops on rice bran product innovation, and digital marketing assistance using e-catalogs and social media. The program partners consisted of 20 participants, including BUMDes managers and local MSME actors. Evaluation was carried out through pre-tests and post-tests, observation of skills, and monitoring of sales growth. The results showed a 75% increase in management knowledge, a 68% improvement in rice bran processing skills into food products, and a 70% increase in digital marketing skills. In addition, BUMDes business turnover increased by an average of 25% within three months of mentoring. This program has proven effective in strengthening the competitiveness of village MSMEs through the integration of product innovation and digital marketing

    ANALYSIS OF THE MULTIDIMENSIONAL PERFORMANCE OF REGIONAL GOVERNMENTS IN ACHIEVING THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (SDGS) IN PACITAN REGENCY 2024

    Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan menyediakan evaluasi komprehensif mengenai komitmen dan kinerja multidimensi pemerintah daerah Kabupaten Pacitan dalam mencapai standar pembangunan global. Kajian ini berfungsi sebagai studi kasus penting bagi ilmu kebijakan dan tata kelola regional. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif deskriptif dengan memanfaatkan data sekunder. Capaian total 92 indikator diklasifikasikan ke dalam empat Pilar Pembangunan: Sosial, Ekonomi, Lingkungan, dan Hukum/Tata Kelola. Status capaian setiap indikator dinilai menggunakan sistem scorecard berbasis tiga kategori: Tercapai (A), Akan Tercapai/Membaik (B), dan Perlu Perhatian Khusus (C). Evaluasi menunjukkan kinerja yang kuat dan progresif di Kabupaten Pacitan pada tahun 2024, dengan 73 dari 92 indikator (79,35%) berhasil mencapai target (status Hijau). Pilar Pembangunan Ekonomi menunjukkan kinerja paling unggul tanpa indikator yang berstatus Perlu Perhatian Khusus (Merah). Secara kumulatif, Prestasi Capaian SDGs Kabupaten Pacitan mencapai 91,11%. Meskipun demikian, terdapat 7 indikator (7,61%) yang masih memerlukan intervensi khusus (status Merah). Kendala struktural utama yang diidentifikasi adalah keterbatasan fiskal daerah dalam pembiayaan pembangunan.Abstract: This study aims to provide a comprehensive evaluation of the multidimensional commitment and performance of the Pacitan Regency government in achieving global development standards. This study serves as an important case study for regional policy and governance science. This study uses a descriptive quantitative approach utilizing secondary data. The achievement of a total of 92 indicators is classified into four development pillars: Social, Economic, Environmental, and Legal/Governance. The achievement status of each indicator is assessed using a three-category scorecard system: Achieved (A), Will Be Achieved/Improved (B), and Needs Special Attention (C). The evaluation revealed strong and progressive performance in Pacitan Regency in 2024, with 73 of 92 indicators (79.35%) achieving their targets (Green status). The Economic Development Pillar demonstrated the highest performance, with no indicators requiring Special Attention (Red) status. Cumulatively, Pacitan Regency's SDGs Achievement reached 91.11%. However, 7 indicators (7.61%) still require special intervention (Red status). The main structural constraint identified was regional fiscal limitations in development financing

    SEKOLAH TANDUR: TRANSFORMASI PETANI MILENIAL MENUJU PERTANIAN BERBASIS DIGITIAL

    Abstrak: Pengabdian Sekolah Tandur di Desa Parakan, Trenggalek dilaksanakan sebagai upaya peningkatan softskill dan hardskill petani serta penyuluh dalam memanfaatkan teknologi digital pada sektor pertanian. Tujuan kegiatan ini adalah untuk meningkatkan literasi digital petani milenial dan penyuluh melalui pemanfaatan aplikasi e-TANDUR agar mampu menginput, memvalidasi, mengelola, serta menganalisis data pertanian secara lebih efektif. Metode yang digunakan meliputi sosialisasi, Focus Group Discussion (FGD), pelatihan, dan praktik langsung dengan melibatkan 40 peserta yang terdiri dari petani, penyuluh, dan Dinas Pertanian dan Pangan Kabupaten Trenggalek. Evaluasi dilakukan melalui angket dengan jumlah 20 pertanyaan berbasis skala Likert yang diolah menjadi persentase. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan keterampilan dengan capaian rata-rata yang signifikan. Berdasarkan hasil evaluasi, persepsi petani menunjukkan peningkatan drastis dari rata-rata 62,0%–71,0% menjadi 99,0%–100%. Sementara itu, penyuluh juga mengalami peningkatan dari 69,45%–76,00% menjadi 98,91%–100%. Peningkatan ini membuktikan bahwa program Sekolah Tandur berhasil mengatasi hambatan digital dan mengubah persepsi pasif menjadi adopsi teknologi yang positif di kalangan petani dan penyuluh di Trenggalek.Abstract: The Tandur School Service Program in Parakan Village, Trenggalek was implemented as an effort to improve the soft skills and hard skills of farmers and extension workers in utilizing digital technology in the agricultural sector. The purpose of this activity was to improve the digital literacy of millennial farmers and extension workers through the use of the e-TANDUR application so that they are able to input, validate, manage, and analyze agricultural data more effectively. The methods used included socialization, Focus Group Discussions (FGD), training, and hands-on practice involving 40 participants consisting of farmers, extension workers, and the Trenggalek Regency Agriculture and Food Service. The evaluation was conducted through a questionnaire consisting of 20 questions based on a Likert scale, which were then processed into percentages. The results of the activity showed a significant improvement in skills with significant average achievements. Based on the evaluation results, farmers' perceptions showed a drastic increase from an average of 62.0%–71.0% to 99.0%–100%. Meanwhile, extension workers also experienced an increase from 69.45%–76.00% to 98.91%–100%. This increase proves that the Tandur School program has succeeded in overcoming digital barriers and changing passive perceptions into positive technology adoption among farmers and extension workers in Trenggalek

    Abstrak: Penyakit kanker tidak hanya berdampak pada kondisi fisik, tetapi juga memengaruhi aspek psikologis, salah satunya kecemasan. Dalam konteks kegiatan ini, kecemasan dimaknai sebagai perasaan gelisah, kekhawatiran, atau keresahan yang dialami peserta terkait kondisi kesehatan mereka, dan bukan sebagai diagnosa klinis. Diperlukan upaya untuk membantu penderita mengelola kecemasan tersebut secara adaptif. art therapy merupakan salah satu aktivitas yang terbukti efektif dalam menurunkan kecemasan dan menyalurkan emosi secara positif. Penelitian ini bertujuan menurunkan tingkat kecemasan penderita kanker melalui kegiatan art therapy. Mitra kegiatan adalah Rumah Singgah Kanker di wilayah setempat dengan jumlah 11 orang peserta. Kegiatan dimulai dengan sosialisasi mengenai kecemasan dan dampaknya terhadap kondisi fisik serta psikologis, kemudian dilanjutkan dengan pelatihan art therapy sebagai media penyaluran emosi. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan penurunan rata-rata skor kecemasan dari 11,27 pada pretest menjadi 5,00 pada posttest. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa art therapy efektif dalam menurunkan kecemasan pada penderita kanker. Kegiatan ini diharapkan dapat dilanjutkan secara mandiri sebagai sarana penyaluran emosi yang positif.Abstract: Cancer not only affects physical health, but also psychological aspects, one of which is anxiety. In the context of this activity, anxiety is defined as feelings of restlessness, worry, or unease experienced by participants regarding their health condition, and not as a clinical diagnosis. Efforts are needed to help patients manage their anxiety adaptively. Art therapy is one activity that has been proven effective in reducing anxiety and channeling emotions positively. This study aims to reduce the anxiety levels of cancer patients through art therapy activities. The activity partner is a local cancer shelter with 11 participants. The activity began with an introduction to anxiety and its impact on physical and psychological conditions, followed by art therapy training as a medium for channeling emotions. The evaluation results showed a decrease in the average anxiety score from 11.27 in the pretest to 5.00 in the posttest. These findings indicate that art therapy is effective in reducing anxiety in cancer patients. It is hoped that this activity can be continued independently as a means of positive emotional expression

    REVITALISASI BAHASA LAMPUNG MELALUI PERANCANGAN ILUSTRASI EDUKATIF PADA BUKU PEMBELAJARAN

    Abstrak: Bahasa Lampung mengalami penurunan penggunaan di kalangan generasi muda akibat minimnya media pembelajaran yang menarik, kontekstual, dan berbasis budaya lokal. Kegiatan pengabdian ini berkontribusi langsung pada program Revitalisasi Bahasa Daerah melalui pengembangan ilustrasi edukatif berbasis budaya Lampung untuk buku ajar tingkat sekolah dasar dan menengah. Kegiatan dilaksanakan secara partisipatif melibatkan Balai Bahasa Provinsi Lampung sebagai mitra utama, 25 guru Bahasa Lampung sebagai evaluator pedagogis, dan 2 penutur asli sebagai validator linguistik-budaya. Metode kegiatan mencakup studi budaya, eksplorasi visual, perancangan ilustrasi, validasi ahli, serta uji lapangan. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan bahwa ilustrasi yang dikembangkan memenuhi kategori sangat layak, dengan skor rata-rata 4,76. Indikator kelayakan meliputi kesesuaian budaya (4,76), kemenarikan visual (4,84), kejelasan ilustrasi (4,72), dan potensi peningkatan minat belajar (4,80). Guru menilai ilustrasi mampu memperjelas kosakata abstrak, sedangkan penutur asli memberikan koreksi penting terkait warna, detail tapis, ekspresi karakter, dan akurasi istilah. Produk akhir berupa buku ajar ilustratif dinilai efektif dalam memperkuat pemahaman kosakata, meningkatkan motivasi belajar siswa, dan memperkaya materi pada program revitalisasi bahasa daerah.Abstract: The Lampung language is experiencing a decline in usage among the younger generation due to a lack of interesting, contextual, and locally-based learning media. This community service activity contributes directly to the Regional Language Revitalisation Programme through the development of educational illustrations based on Lampung culture for primary and secondary school textbooks. The activity was carried out in a participatory manner, involving the Lampung Provincial Language Centre as the main partner, 25 Lampung language teachers as pedagogical evaluators, and 2 native speakers as linguistic-cultural validators. The activity methods included cultural studies, visual exploration, illustration design, expert validation, and field testing.The evaluation results showed that the illustrations developed were classified as highly feasible, with an average score of 4.76. Feasibility indicators included cultural appropriateness (4.76), visual appeal (4.84), clarity of illustrations (4.72), and potential for increasing interest in learning (4.80). Teachers assessed that the illustrations were able to clarify abstract vocabulary, while native speakers provided important corrections regarding colours, tapestry details, character expressions, and accuracy of terms. The final product, an illustrative textbook, was assessed as effective in strengthening vocabulary comprehension, increasing student learning motivation, and enriching the material in the regional language revitalisation programme
