Charged-particle multiplicity distributions over a wide pseudorapidity range in p–Pb collisions at sqrt(sNN) = 5.02 TeV
This paper presents the primary charged-particle multiplicity distributions in proton–lead collisions at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon–nucleon collision of sNN=5.02 TeV. The distributions are reported for non-single diffractive collisions in different pseudorapidity ranges. The measurements are performed using the combined information from the Silicon Pixel Detector and the Forward Multiplicity Detector of ALICE. The multiplicity distributions are parametrised with a double negative binomial distribution function which provides satisfactory descriptions of the distributions for all the studied pseudorapidity intervals. The data are compared to models and analysed quantitatively, evaluating the first four moments (mean, standard deviation, skewness, and kurtosis). The shape evolution of the measured multiplicity distributions is studied in terms of KNO variables and it is found that none of the considered models reproduces the measurements. This paper also reports on the average charged-particle multiplicity, normalised by the average number of participating nucleon pairs, as a function of the collision energy. The multiplicity results are then compared to measurements made in proton–proton and nucleus–nucleus collisions across a wide range of collision energies

The essay focuses on the issue of criminal liability for omission of the member of the
supervisory body. The topic is explored in depth not only through an analysis of Italian case law
and criminal law doctrine, but also through an interdisciplinary and comparative approach. The
study lays the foundations for developing a concept of preventive power, a fundamental
prerequisite for the offence of omission under Article 40(2) of the Italian Criminal Code. Finally,
it provides an outline for future reform.
Il saggio esplora i molti aspetti problematici relativi alla talvolta ipotizzata responsabilità concorsuale omissiva del componente dell'organismo di vigilanza (Odv) ex d.lgs. 231 del 2001. Il tema è affrontato e approfondito non solo grazie all'analisi della giurisprudenza e della dottrina italiane, ma anche grazie a un approccio interdisciplinare e comparatistico. Lo studio pone anche le basi per delineare un concetto di potere impeditivo, elemento essenziale della fattispecie omissiva impropria di cui all'art. 40 comma 2 c.p. Infine, vengono forniti alcuni spunti per una futura riforma
Intelligenza artificiale, architetture di vigilanza e ipotesi di conflitto
L'approccio eurounitario sul tema della regolazione della vigilanza del mercato dell'intelligenza artificiale è caratterizzato dalla tendenza ad accentrare la supervisione con autorità specializzate, pur ammettendo a certe condizioni la designazione di quelle esistenti. Nel settore finanziario, viceversa, il regolamento europeo ritiene allo scopo naturale la designazione dell'autorità nazionale responsabile della vigilanza finanziaria, salvo decisioni in deroga supportate da specifiche circostanze.
Dopo un rapido sguardo sugli ordinamenti esteri, l'articolo si sofferma sull'ordinamento italiano, che con il DDL n. 1146/ 2024 - diversamente dall'impostazione europeapredilige un accentramento assoluto su AgID e ACN, senza attribuire alcun specifico rilievo all'autorità di vigilanza finanziaria nazionale. Tale scelta, in deroga a quanto stabilito dall'AI Act, solleva interrogativi sui confini di competenza e sulla necessità di un raccordo per garantire una vigilanza coerente ed efficace

Miscarriage of justice in judges' mind: theory and experimental evidence
This study investigates—both theoretically and by means of a controlled laboratory experiment—judges’ decisions in cases when either “type-I” errors (i.e., convicting an innocent defendant) or “type-II” errors (i.e., acquitting a guilty defendant) can occur. Our findings indicate that judges are sensitive to both types of error. Furthermore, in both error scenarios we detect “compensatory leniency” in judicial decision making, with participants seeming to balance the inherent trade-off between the errors by managing jointly the two key levers that they are given by our design: (1) the decision on conviction/acquittal and (2) the decision on the severity of punishment

L’articolo si sofferma sulla narrazione autobiografica come forma peculiare del narrare in cui il soggetto si comprende, oltre ogni pretesa di autosufficienza, nell’impossibilità di prescindere dalla relazione all’alterità che ci attraversa. La verità a cui si perviene al termine del racconto di sé, del lavoro di autointerpretazione in cui consiste l’atto del narrarsi è che «il proprio è inappropriabile», è «un rinnovato ascolto del mistero che ci abita». L’autobiografia si presenta come una scrittura anti-egologica, perché contesta il primato dell’io, aprendolo al mistero che lo abita. Tempo, spazio, scrittura producono nel racconto di sé la comprensione del soggetto come essenzialmente costituito dalla relazione all’alterità, inaugurando un processo che conduce alla consapevolezza di uno strutturale non-possesso di sé
[Playground marking for contrasting sedentary lifestyle: systematic literature review]
Background: promoting physical activity and reducing sedentary behaviour are public health priorities aimed at ensuring health and well-being at all stages of life. Physical activity should be encouraged from early childhood, with play being a key component, including interactive 'floor-based' activities in safe spaces. The introduction of colourful markings in playgrounds and public spaces (such as 'playground markings') may offer a cost-effective and feasible way to promote physical activity, also providing structured opportunities for teachers to support motor skill development. Objectives: to provide evidence of the benefits of playground markings interventions in schools on increasing physical activity levels and enhancing the physical and psychological well-being in pre-school and school-aged children. Design: a systematic literature search was conducted in Cochrane Library, MedLine, Embase, PsycInfo, and Epistemonikos databases up to 13.02.2024. The primary focus was to identify systematic reviews (SRs) or, in their absence, randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and non-randomized controlled trials (NRCTs). Study quality was assessed using validated tools according to study design, and meta-analyses were conducted where feasible. The GRADE approach was used to evaluate the certainty of evidence and results were presented in Summary of Findings (SoF) tables. Studies not included in the meta-analyses due to data unavailability or heterogeneity in outcome measures or interventions were narratively reported. Setting and participants: students aged 3 to 10 years attending preschool and primary school. Main outcome measures: increased physical activity (including light, moderate vigorous and reduction of sedentary lifestyle); reduced obesity, overweight, Body Mass Index; well-being (quality of life, psychological aspect); cognitive level; school performance. Results: a total of 557 records were screened and 35 potentially eligible full-text assessed publications. The review included 14 publications corresponding to 11 studies: 6 RCTs and 5 NRCTs. No systematic reviews were included. Meta-analyses were conducted using data from 2 RCTs, examining outcomes related to reduced sedentary behaviour and increased light, moderate, and vigorous physical activity. No statistically significant differences between comparison groups. The certainty of evidence was very low for all outcomes. Four of the 9 studies that were not included in the meta-analysis were RCT studies and 5 non-randomized studies reported heterogeneous results with respect to the physical activity outcome with some outcomes showing an effect in favour of the intervention while others reported no effect. Conclusions: multi-coloured playground markings consist of a low-cost approach to promote physical activity in children. However, the results reported by the few available studies in both pre-school and school-age children are inconclusive

SINEUP RNA rescues molecular phenotypes associated with CHD8 suppression in autism spectrum disorder model systems
Loss-of-function mutations in the chromodomain helicase DNA-binding 8 (CHD8) gene are strongly associated with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs). Indeed, the reduction of CHD8 causes transcriptional, epigenetic, and cellular phenotypic changes correlated to disease, which can be monitored in assessing new therapeutic approaches. SINEUPs are a functional class of natural and synthetic antisense long non-coding RNAs able to stimulate the translation of sense target mRNA, with no effect on transcription. Here, we employed synthetic SINEUP-CHD8 targeting the first and third AUG of the CHD8 coding sequence to efficiently stimulate endogenous CHD8 protein production. SINEUP-CHD8 were effective in cells with reduced levels of the target protein and in patient-derived fibroblasts with CHD8 mutations. Functionally, SINEUP-CHD8 were able to revert molecular phenotypes associated with CHD8 suppression, i.e., genome-wide transcriptional dysregulation, and the reduction of H3K36me3 levels. Strikingly, in chd8-morpholino-treated and ENU mutant zebrafish embryos, SINEUP-chd8 injection confirmed the ability of SINEUP RNA to rescue the chd8-suppression-induced macrocephaly phenotype and neuronal hyperproliferation. Thus, SINEUP-CHD8 molecule(s) represent a proof-of-concept toward the development of an RNA-based therapy for neurodevelopmental syndromes with implications for, and beyond ASD, and relevant to genetic disorders caused by protein haploinsufficiency
