Alternative Price Dynamics and Valuation of Flexible Strategies
In this article, we study the optimal operational strategy of production projects. We investigate different underlying price models and determine the optimal barriers of transition to suspension, recovery, or irreversible abandonment of productive activity. We compute probabilities of switching between alternative states and the time spent in each state. Our findings suggest that in moderately volatile markets, different model assumptions lead to minimal variations in project strategy. This insight underscores that tractable model approximations can be strategically sound under certain volatility conditions. Our work significantly advances in this direction by demonstrating when and how model simplifications can be made without sacrificing accuracy
Geografia “circolare”, relazioni sostenibili e servizi ecosistemici. Uno sguardo (d)alle aree interne alpine
Nel saggio, la geografia circolare è proposta come un nuovo paradigma interpretativo e operativo per leggere e progettare le aree interne, in particolare quelle alpine. Essa si fonda sull’idea di “zero spreco territoriale”, ovvero un approccio che riduce al minimo la dispersione e lo sfruttamento incontrollato delle risorse, trasformando il territorio in un sistema che produce valore attraverso la circolazione e il riuso di risorse, idee ed esperienze. Non si tratta solo di una gestione ambientale efficiente, ma di un modello integrato che considera anche le dimensioni sociali, culturali ed economiche. In questo quadro, la geografia non è vista come semplice descrizione di luoghi, ma come disciplina delle relazioni: le connessioni tra comunità, ambiente ed economie locali costituiscono lo spazio geografico stesso. La “circolarità” implica che tali relazioni siano sostenibili, cioè capaci di autoalimentarsi senza esaurire i patrimoni locali (naturali, culturali, paesaggistici).
Le applicazioni pratiche del concetto riguardano: pianificazione territoriale e riqualificazione urbana, per ridurre consumo di suolo e valorizzare ciò che già esiste; agricoltura sostenibile e filiere corte, come strumenti di presidio e innovazione; energie rinnovabili e mobilità sostenibile, per limitare impatti ambientali; turismo responsabile, fondato su paesaggio, identità e biodiversità; partecipazione comunitaria, indispensabile per generare progetti condivisi e resilienti.
In sostanza, la geografia circolare indica un modo di pensare e agire sul territorio che valorizza le risorse senza depauperarle, creando beni comuni e rafforzando le comunità locali. È una prospettiva che trasforma le fragilità (spopolamento, marginalità, carenza di servizi) in occasioni di innovazione e rigenerazione
A SWOT-Consensus for CAR-T in Follicular Lymphoma: Fine Tuning of Patient Journey and Selection
: Over the past 2 decades, advancements in follicular lymphoma (FL) treatment, particularly with anti-CD20 antibodies, have significantly improved patient survival. However, a subset of FL patients experiences early relapse and progression within 24 months (POD24) after first line treatment, which is a sign of poor prognosis. Current guidelines recommend various second-line treatments, but there is no consensus on an optimal treatment sequence for relapsed/refractory (r/r) FL. Moreover, despite available treatments, reduced survival after second-line therapies and diminishing responses with each relapse highlight the unmet need for more effective options. Chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy has emerged as a promising treatment for r/r FL beyond 2nd line therapy, with three FDA/EMA-approved therapies (axicabtagene ciloleucel, tisagenlecleucel, and lisocabtagene maraleucel) showing high efficacy and manageable side effects. However, challenges remain in determining which patients will benefit most from CAR-T, especially given its high cost, safety concerns, and logistical barriers. A consensus study was conducted to guide CAR-T patient selection and treatment sequencing for patients in 3rd line or beyond. Key findings suggest that younger patients, those with high disease burden or poor first-line responses, should be prioritized for CAR-T. Additionally, CAR-T is recommended as a third-line option for patients with POD24, double refractoriness (failure to respond to two subsequent lines of immunochemotherapy), or early autologous stem cell transplant failure. The study underscores the importance of early assessment of treatment response, careful second-line therapy selection, and patient adherence to ensure optimal outcomes. The results, based on expert consensus, support CAR-T therapy as a viable option for r/r FL patients, offering hope for durable remissions in this challenging cohort
Multidisciplinary management of agenesis of corpus callosum: a narrative review
The corpus callosum (CC) is the most significant of the three cerebral commissures that join the human left and right hemispheres. Numerous vascular, chemical, genetic, and metabolic disturbances can impede the growth of the CC. Complete agenesis of the CC is the most prevalent abnormality. As a result of improvements in our knowledge and advancements in ultrasonography technology, an increasing number of congenital CC abnormalities have been identified. Prenatal magnetic resonance imaging is crucial to identify related central nervous system abnormalities. Counseling about the postnatal result is still difficult. This study sought to characterize the long-term consequences for children with isolated anomalies of CC detected during pregnancy, trying to provide the correct multidisciplinary approach to the pregnant woman also in terms of medical legal and ethical issues
Internal ribosome entry sites enhance translation in trans in antisense non-coding SINEUP and circular RNAs
Sequences in the 5′-untranslated regions of cellular and viral mRNAs can function as internal ribosome entry sites (IRESs), driving cis-acting translation of the downstream protein-coding open reading frame. Here we demonstrate that RNA sequences with either newly identified or well-characterized IRES activity can also induce trans-acting translation of an independent mRNA species through an antisense sequence. SINEUPs are antisense long non-coding RNAs that enhance the translation of overlapping sense mRNAs in trans by employing two critical domains: the invSINEB2 sequence, which up-regulates translation (effector domain), and an antisense region providing target specificity (binding domain). First, we show that the invSINEB2 from the natural SINEUP AS Uchl1 RNA acts as an IRES when functioning in cis. Next, we establish that known viral and cellular sequences with IRES activity can operate in trans as an effector domain in synthetic SINEUPs. To identify natural IRES-containing non-coding RNAs with transactivity, we found that the non-coding hsa_circ_0 085 533 (circMyc), transcribed from the c-myc locus, enhances protein expression of PX Domain Containing Serine/Threonine Kinase Like (PXK) by promoting mRNA association with polysomes through antisense sequences. These results suggest that SINEUPs and some circular RNAs are trans-acting IRESs, expanding the repertoire of molecular mechanisms to regulate translation
Spoken communication in primary school. A classroom-based case study on requests
The article discusses a classroom-based case study involving six primary school classes. Each class took part in a six-hour module dedicated to the speech act of requesting. The effectiveness of the instructional intervention was evaluated through the administration of a pre-test and post-test, in which learners were asked to role play in pairs the target speech act. Data were analysed to describe how learners realized the interactional sequences of the role play task and how they formulated the target speech act within interaction
Ecosocial work in azione: il contributo dell'agricoltura sociale allo sviluppo sostenibile
Il contributo presenta i risultati di un progetto di ricerca volto ad analizzare
esperienze di agricoltura sociale presenti sul territorio italiano secondo la prospettiva
dell’ecosocial work, prospettiva che considera in modo olistico gli ambienti di vita e
promuove concezioni del servizio sociale tesi alla sostenibilità. All’interno di un più
ampio progetto di ricerca PRIN sul lavoro ecosociale in Italia, il presente contributo
analizza 6 casi di agricoltura sociale indagando: il ruolo attribuito all’ambiente, il
coinvolgimento delle persone beneficiarie, e il ruolo degli attori coinvolti.
I dati, raccolti attraverso interviste semi-strutturate e analizzati secondo il metodo
dell’analisi tematica, rilevano come le esperienze di agricoltura sociale siano uno
spazio privilegiato per pratiche di ecosocial work mostrando sfide e opportunità per il
servizio sociale nella costruzione di politiche locali sostenibili e le potenzialità di una
visione olistica
Measurement of f1(1285) production in pp collisions at = 13 TeV
This study presents the first measurement of the f1(1285) resonance using the ALICE detector in inelastic proton–proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The resonance is reconstructed at midrapidity (|y| KS0K . Key measurements include the determination of its mass, transverse-momentum integrated yield, and average transverse momentum. Additionally, the ratio of the transverse-momentum integrated yield of f1(1285) to pion is compared with calculations from the canonical statistical hadronization model. The model calculation, assuming a zero total strangeness content for f1(1285), reproduces the data within 1σ deviation, shedding light on the quark composition of f1(1285)
Graph Representation Learning for IBD Diagnosis based on Microbiome Metaomic Data
Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is a chronic relapsing
inflammatory disease strictly related to the gut microbiome, a critical
component of human health. The analysis of gut microbiome presents
substantial challenges due to the high dimensionality and sparsity of
its metaomic data. Traditional approaches often struggle to uncover the
intricate relationships within microbial communities. In this work, we
introduce a Graph Representation Learning (GRL)-based framework designed
to classify patients based on the presence or absence of IBD conditions.
Unlike conventional methods that rely primarily on taxa abundance,
our approach directly incorporates taxonomic relationships, enabling
the construction of a generalized encoder for microbial taxa networks.
The learned representations effectively capture the structure and
dynamics of individual gut microbiomes, which are subsequently utilized
for phenotype prediction (i.e., presence or absence of IBD). By bridging
microbial taxa relationships with patient classification, our method
demonstrates the potential to advance microbiome-based diagnostics and
deepen our understanding of the role microbial communities play in disease
states
Sustainable and innovative strategies for the discovery of new therapeutic agents
During my PhD, I integrated green chemistry principles to develop sustainable and efficient methods for synthesizing biologically active compounds. In collaboration with Nerviano Medical Sciences, I focused on metal-free visible-light photocatalysis to enable radical coupling reactions: Synthesis of a-halocarbonyl derivatives via a Giese-type photoredox process, yielding intermediates converted into amino esters, heterocycles, and cinnamic derivatives. This strategy facilitated the synthesis of pharmacologically relevant compounds such as ilepcimide (anticonvulsant), amiloxylate (photoprotective), and piperlongumine (anticancer agent). Phptocatalytic Giese-type protocol for N-t-Bu-TZD: I developed a mild, metal-free method coupling N-tert-butylthiazolidindione-based olefins with organoborates or carboxylic acids, demonstrating broad applicability and enabling the synthesis of anti¬diabetic glitazones like azemiglitazone and pioglitazone. Concurrently, I explored novel strategies to target indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase 1 (IDO1) in cancer immunotherapy, overcoming limitations of conventional inhibitors through three approaches: Apo-IDOI inhibitors: I optimized VS-13 through SAR/SPR studies, incorporating bioisosteric modifications (H/D, H/F) and structural refinements to enhance pharmacokinetics, leading to an improved analogue
