Psychometric properties of the Purpose In Life-Short Form in the Spanish population
The aim of this study was to analyze the psychometric properties of the Purpose in Life Test-Short Form (PIL-SF), a brief self-report measure of the presence of meaning in life (MiL). Participants were 349 nonclinical Spanish undergraduates (225 women, 64.5%, and 124 men, 35.5%), age ranged between 18 and 26 years (M = 20.85; SD = 2.16). The PIL-SF, the Seeking of Noetic Goals-8 Items (SONG-8), the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS), and the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire (OHQ) were used. Descriptive analysis, estimation of the internal consistency, and Confirmatory Factor Analysis of the PIL-SF were conducted, and correlations between the PIL-SF and the SONG-8, the SWLS, and the OHQ were calculated. The PIL-SF showed good internal consistency and an excellent fit as a unidimensional scale confirming its factorial structure. Regarding construct validity, correlations between the PIL-SF and SWLS (r= 0.59) and OHQ (r = 0.56) were positive, significant (p < 0.001), while correlation between PIL-SF and SONG-8 was negative, significant (r = −0.23, p < 0.001). The Spanish adaptation of PIL-SF seems to be a valid measure of MiL with good internal consistency.Psicologí
Localization of Muscle Edema and Changes on Muscle Contractility After Dry Needling of Latent Trigger Points in the Gastrocnemius Muscle
Background. Myofascial trigger points (TrPs) are hyperirritable spots within taut bands of skeletal muscles that elicit local and referred pain when stimulated. Among the variety of techniques used for treating TrPs, dry needling (DN) is the most commonly applied intervention. The physiological mechanisms underlying the effects of DN remain to be elucidated. Objective. To examine changes in skeletal muscle after DN in the area where the TrP is located. Methods. We measured in vivo changes that occur in human skeletal muscle one hour after DN over a TrP with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and tensiomyography. The study included 18 asymptomatic subjects with a latent TrP in one medial gastrocnemius muscle, and the contralateral leg was used as control. Results. The results showed that MRI signal intensity significantly increased one hour after the DN intervention, suggesting the presence of intramuscular edema. Tensiomyographic parameters showed higher muscle stiffness with an improvement in contraction time after DN. Conclusions. This is the first study showing intramuscular edema after TrP DN in human skeletal muscle. Future research should focus on using DN therapy in patients with active TrPs and on monitoring changes occurring at longer follow-up with imaging techniques.Fisioterapi
Use of a gamified website to increase pain neurophysiology knowledge and improve satisfaction and motivation among students studying for a degree in physiotherapy: a quasi-experimental study
Background The scientific evidence highlights the difficulties that healthcare professionals experience when managing patients with chronic pain. One of the causes of this difficulty could be related to the acquired training and the lack of knowledge about the neurophysiology of pain. In the present study, we assessed the effectiveness of a gamified web platform in acquiring knowledge about pain neurophysiology and determining the satisfaction and motivation of students of the Degree in Physiotherapy at the University of Lleida. Methods A quasi-experimental study was carried out with a sample of 60 students who had access to a gamified web platform that included notes, videos, and clinical cases prepared by the teaching staff and was based on a previous study that included patients and healthcare professionals. Results The results show that after the intervention, there was a statistically significant increase in knowledge about the neurophysiology of pain, and the effect size was in the desired area of effect. Likewise, many students considered that their motivation had increased as a result of the methodology used in the present study. Conclusions The results support the use of this methodology to promote knowledge about the neurophysiology of pain while improving students' motivation. This study was funded by the Electronic Components and Systems for European Leadership Joint Undertaking (ECSEL JU) in collaboration with the Europan Union´s H2020 Framework Programme and National Authorities, under grant agreement H2020-ECSEL-2019-IA-876190.Fisioterapi
Near-infrared imaging for automated tsetse pupae sex sorting in support of the sterile insect technique
Tsetse flies are the cyclical vectors of African trypanosomes and one of several methods to manage this
vector is the sterile insect technique (SIT). The ability to determine the sex of tsetse pupae with the objective to separate
the sexes before adult emergence has been a major goal for decades for tsetse management programmes with an SIT
component. Tsetse females develop faster and pharate females inside the pupae melanise 1–2 days before males. This
earlier melanisation can be detected by infrared cameras through the pupal shell, and the newly developed Near InfraRed Pupae Sex Sorter (NIRPSS) takes advantage of this. The melanisation process is not homogeneous for all fly organs and the pupa needs to be examined ventrally, dorsally and laterally to ensure accurate classification by an image
analysis algorithm. When the pupae are maturing at a constant temperature of 24 C and sorted at the appropriate age,
24 days post-larviposition for Glossina palpalis gambiensis, the sorting machine can efficiently separate the sexes. The
recovered male pupae can then be sterilised for field releases of males, while the rest of the pupae can be used to maintain the laboratory colony. The sorting process with the new NIRPSS had no negative impact on adult emergence and
flight ability. A mean male recovery of 62.82 ± 3.61% was enough to provide sterile males to an operational SIT programme, while mean contamination with females (4.69 ± 3.02%) was low enough to have no impact on the maintenance of a laboratory colony.
Ciencias Experimentale
In vitro culture and micropropagation of the Baetic-Moroccan endemic plant Lapiedra martinezii Lag. (Amaryllidaceae)
Lapiedra martinezii Lag. is a potential medicinal and ornamental plant facing conservation challenges. Thus, this study was focused on determining the conditions for culture initiation and propagation using in vitro techniques. The optimal sterilization procedure combined thermotherapy at 54 degrees C for 60 min and immersion in 7% (w/v) Ca(ClO)(2) solution for 20 min. The most suitable medium to initiate bulb scales cultures was Gamborg B5 medium containing 500 mg L-1 casein, 2 mg L-1 adenine, 10 mg L-1 glutathione and 10 g L-1 sucrose. The most productive multiplication medium tested was Murashige and Skoog medium containing 30 g L-1 sucrose, 4.0 mg L-1 6-benzylaminopurine, and 0.12 mg L-1 1-naphtaleneacetic acid. Most plants developed in vitro rooted spontaneously in the multiplication phase. The vast majority of the plants (89%) were successfully transferred to ex vitro conditions, and 100% survived over 1 yr of cultivation outdoors. Sucrose at a concentration of 60 g L-1 was the most effective treatment to increase the biomass of bulblets. High auxin/cytokinin ratios produced the highest callus induction efficiency. The vast majority of callus developed in dark conditions, but none regenerated in the combinations of growth regulators previously tested. The plants obtained by micropropagation did not show significant differences in morphometric traits compared with the wild specimens, which supported the stability of the materials produced in vitro. This is the first report on cell cultures and micropropagation of L. martinezii, and the results can be applied to other Amaryllidaceae for industrial or conservation purposes. This research was supported by a research grant from the University of Alacant program “Becas y Contratos para la formación de Doctores del Vicerrectorado de Investigación de la Universitat d’Alacant FPU2010.”Biotecnologí
Microtensile Bond Strength of CAD-CAM Restorative Dental Material Blocks to Resin Cement: An In Vitro Study
Introduction: Today’s dentistry frequently employs bonded partial restorations, which are
usually fabricated in ceramic materials. In the last decade, hybrid materials have emerged that attempt
to combine the properties of composites and ceramics. Objectives: To evaluate in vitro, by means
of a microtensile test, the bond strength between CAD-CAM restorative materials and the cement
recommended by their manufacturer. Material and Method: From blocks of CAD-CAM restorative
material bonded to composite blocks (Filtek 500®), beams with a bonding area of approximately
1 mm2 were made and divided into four groups: EMAX (IPS e.max CAD® lithium disilicate), VE
(VITA Enamic® polymer-infiltrated ceramic matrix), LUA (Lava Ultimate® nano-ceramic resin with
sandblasting protocol) and LUS (Lava Ultimate® nano-ceramic resin with silica coating protocol).
In each group, perimeter (external) or central (internal) beams were differentiated according to the
position in the block. The samples were tested on the LMT 100® microtensile machine. Using optical
microscopy, the fractures were categorized as adhesive or cohesive (of the restorative material or
composite), and the data were analysed with parametric tests (ANOVA). Results: The LUS group had
the highest results (42 ± 20 MPa), followed by the LUA group (38 ± 18 MPa). EMAX had a mean of
34 ± 16 MPa, and VE was the lowest in this study (30 ± 17 MPa). In all groups, the central beams
performed better than the perimeter beams. Both EMAX and VE had the most adhesive fractures,
while LUA and LUS had a predominance of cohesive fractures. Conclusions: Lava Ultimate®
nanoceramic resin with the silica coating protocol obtains the best bond strength valuesOdontologí
Diego Pérez de Valdivia was born in Baeza around 1520. For several years he held a chair of theology at the University of Baeza, founded by Master Ávila. After being persecuted and imprisoned by the Inquisition, he went to Barcelona, where he carried out his university and priestly work. In this paper we are going to focus on the immaculate conception linked to his treatise: De la singular y purísima Concepción de la Madre de Dios (1582), where he argues that he has no doubts about it: “the Blessed Virgin was conceived without stain of sin”. It is considered to be the first theological treatise in Spanish on the Immaculate Conception in the style of the Avilist spirit.Religió
Christ, "Viam Veritatis" to attain happiness. The christology of the Summa Theologica of Saint Thomas Aquinas
In the Summa Theologiae, Saint Thomas Aquinas captured in writing the mature fruit of many years dedicated to study and reflection on the mystery of Christ. He did not start from scratch, but rather synthesized with originality the best of the Tradition in dialogue with his contemporaries. This article offers a tight synthesis of Christology of this work, highlighting only the aspects that we found more interesting. We have focused only on the Tertia Pars, even knowing that there are other important christological elements scattered throughout the rest of the work. We have followed the outline of the matter proposed by theauthor himself. Firstly,we deal with the issues that answer the question: Who is Christ?and then we stop at two capital actions to understand the mystery of our salvation: The resurrection of Christ and his ascension to heaven. Although we do not dedicate a special point to talking about the spiritual Christology, the reader will be able to perceive that Saint Thomas' reflection on Christ is not limited to the areas of biblical, dogmatic theology or theological anthropology, but everywhere we can find the elements that vividly touch spiritual life.
Juan Alfaro, from his particular concern
for cultivating an integral theological method
that integrates in harmony the biblical data,
ecclesial tradition and theological reflection,
seeks to specify with precision the effective
contribution of Mary to the incarnation, arguing
that this cooperation is configured thanks
to the intrinsically salvific character that the
incarnation enjoys, since this confers on the
very “fiat” of Mary its dimension of immediate
contribution to the salvation of the world,
fulfilled only by Christ. The figure of Mary
helps us to accept the gift of salvation, which
can only come from the unique mediation of
Christ. The author thereby demonstrates
the legitimacy of Marian theology in Catholicism,
without the Marian question
having to be considered, in this way, a
stumbling block to ecumenical dialogue.Religió
