affect the overall family wellbeing, contributing to enhance family quality of life (FQoL) in the field of
early childhood intervention has become a priority. However, it is a distal outcome that needs other
short-term outcomes to be addressed, some of them under the potential impact of support services.
This study examines the relationships between caregiver burden, family confidence, and FQoL, as
well as the influence of child and family variables. This research was funded by Spanish Ministry Projects: Knowledge Generation. State

mechanisms of retinal degenerative diseases. Many of these mechanisms are related to or modulated
by the oxidative burden of retinal cells. It has been recently demonstrated that cellular communication
in the retina involves extracellular vesicles and that their rate of release and cargo features might
be affected by the cellular environment, and in some instances, they might also be mediated by
autophagy. The fate of these vesicles is diverse: they could end up in circulation being used as markers,
or target neighbor cells modulating gene and protein expression, or eventually, in angiogenesis.
Neovascularization in the retina promotes vision loss in diseases such as diabetic retinopathy and
age-related macular degeneration. The importance of micro RNAs, either as small extracellular
vesicles’ cargo or free circulating, in the regulation of retinal angiogenesis is also discussed.Authors’ research receives support from: ‘Consolidación de Indicadores’ CEU-UCH 2022-

that leads to the loss of motor neurons. The dietary intake of ALS patients is thought to influence the
prognosis and progression of the disease. The aim of this study was to examine the nutritional, clinical
and sociodemographic characteristics of ALS patients in Spain. A cross-sectional descriptive study
with demographics, clinical anamnesis and anthropometric assessment was carried out. Nutritional
intake was recorded and compared with dietary reference intakes (DRI). Forty subjects (25 males;
15 females) aged 54.7 ± 10.17 were included in the study. The mean weight and height were
67.99 ± 8.85 kg and 167.83 ± 8.79 cm, respectively. Clinical phenotype, time to diagnosis, year of
onset and family history were not associated with the place of origin. Clinical phenotype had no
influence on time of diagnosis. Caloric and protein intakes were adequate, while carbohydrate,
vitamin B8 and iodine intakes were significantly lower than the DRI. Lipids; vitamins B1, B2, B3,
B5, B6, B12, C and E; sodium; phosphorus; and selenium intakes were significantly higher than the
recommended nutritional standards. ALS patients, who are homogeneously distributed throughout
our national territory, should modify their dietary habits to minimize ultra-processed products and
prioritize foods rich in healthy fats and fiber. This research was funded by the Catholic University of Valencia “San Vicente Mártir”

reactions to metal debris, abnormal soft-tissue reactions, and high blood metal ion levels. This study
aims to: (1) assess whether the toxicity of high levels of ions is related to altered oxidative stress
and (2) evaluate tribological factors related to increased blood levels of chromium (Cr) and cobalt
(Co) ions. This work was supported by grants from the University CEU-Cardenal Herrera (GIR23/13).Medicin
Next generation meshes for hernia repair: Polypropylene meshes coated with antimicrobial benzalkonium chloride induced proliferative activity of fibroblasts
Hernia repair is one of the most frequently performed world-wide surgical procedures in which
hernia meshes are becoming increasingly used. Polypropylene (PP) mesh implants reduce the risk
of recurrence and post-operative pain, although many other risks are associated with it, such as
bacterial infection. In this study we developed PP meshes coated with the well-known antimicrobial compound, benzalkonium chloride (BAK) by dip-coating. Several dilutions (40, 20, 30, 10,
7.5, 5, 2.5, 1, 0.5, 0.1 and 0.05 % v/v) of commercial BAK solution (BAK diluted in 70 % ethyl
alcohol at 0.1 % w/v) were used to produce antimicrobial meshes with different amounts of BAK.
The dip-coating treatment with low concentrations of BAK (1, 0.5, 0.1 and 0.05 % v/v dilutions)
was found to have biocompatible results in fibroblast. The use of 0.1 and 0.05 % v/v dilutions (PP
meshes with up to ~2 % w/w of BAK) showed proliferative activity on fibroblast cells, indicating
that these novel antimicrobial meshes show great promise for hernia repair due to their ability to
prevent infections while inducing fibroblast proliferation.Ciencias Experimentale
Evaluation of an educational intervention in Physical Education classes to improve Sleep Knowledge
Sleep education is essential for adolescents in high school. The low score on the Sleep Beliefs Scale (SBS = 11.81) by the
sample of 91 students aged 16,31 years (SD = 0.51), belonging to two secondary schools in the province of Cuenca (Spain), confirms
their lack of knowledge in this area of health. Due to a shortage of initiatives in this field and the need to address and treat sleep in this
population, the main objective of the study is to investigate the effectiveness of a comprehensive health project aimed at sleep knowledge
through Physical Education (PE) classes. Through four sessions of PE, using an active methodology centred on physical exercise and
based on the resolution of practical situations applicable to real life, statistically significant differences were found (p < 0.05) in the
improvement of sleep knowledge when comparing the performance in the SBS of the experimental group (pre = 11.95 vs post =
15.83) against the control group (pre = 11.67 vs post = 12.30), after a two-week intervention. With a 19.5% increase in the positive
evolution of scale responses in the experimental group, such programmes are successful and feasible to incorporate into curricula.Ciencias de la Actividad Física y del Deport

Different studies have shown the motivations for adherence to these diets, and others have highlighted some health advantages and disadvantages. Purpose of the study: Further studies are needed to define the socio-demographic determinants that influence the choice of a plant-based diet and to study the relationship that the choice of dietary pattern has on the health and lifestyle habits of the population.Nutrición humana y dietétic
Social representations of giftedness among university students in preservice teacher
This study examines the conceptions and beliefs entrenched in schools regarding giftedness, which hinder the proper educational development and attention to the diversity of these students. It focuses on the social representations present among university students in preservice teacher. The research adopts a mixed-method approach, utilizing social representations theory through prototypical word analysis, with the participation of 274 individuals. The results reveal that the word “intelligent” prevails in all social representations, while peripheral elements vary and are more related to socioemotional aspects. Academic training stands out as an important element that destabilizes the central core of the representation, offering a more holistic view of the concept. In the collective perception of the inves-tigated group, several myths, stereotypes, and false beliefs are identified. Among them, the belief in the idea that giftedness is innate stands out. Additionally, the stereotype persists that these students always excel in performance and face difficulties in their personal and social adaptationEducació
Spanish adaptation and validation of the ALS Depression Inventory-12 (ADI-12) in patients with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
Background. Patients with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) have a higher prevalence of mood disorders, including depression, than the general population. Non-specific measurement instruments have been used to evaluate depression in these patients, which complicates accurate diagnosis. The ALS Depression Inventory (ADI-12) exclusively assesses depressive symptoms in patients with ALS. Aim. To adapt and validate the ADI-12 in a Spanish sample. Methods. A selective design was used with 74 patients with ALS, using the ADI-12 questionnaire. The original instrument was translated and back-translated into Spanish. The internal structure, temporal stability, convergent, and discriminant validity of the instrument were analyzed. Results. Two confirmatory models showed internal validity (p = 0.502 for the one-factor model, p = 0.507 for the two-factor model). The Cronbach's alpha (0.900 in the first measurement and 0.889 in the second one) indicated a high internal consistency of the test. The Pearson correlation (0.90) indicated high temporal stability. In terms of convergent validity, the ADI-12 showed moderate correlations with the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) (0.51-0.58), and low correlations with time since ALS diagnosis (-0.26 to-0.27). Limitations. The main limitation of the present study was the small sample size. Conclusions. The ADI-12 is fitted to a single general factor of depression, and the scale shows high internal consistency and high temporal stability, therefore, its use is recommended for the diagnosis of depression in patients with ALS.This study was funded by the Catholic University of Va- lencia San Vicente Mártir (grant 2021-203-003 ).Medicin
