    Geographical Research in Bozdağlar (Izmir): Geographical Determinations about What Needs to be Done at the Point of Development of Special Interest Tourism

    Representing one of the important tourism and recreation centers of the Aegean Region, Bozdağlar is of interest to tourism geography and constitutes one of the important research topics due to its natural and human geography features. This study was designed to conduct a preliminary research on special interest tourism (SIT) in Bozdağlar, in the hinterland of Izmir. The aim is to reveal the importance of sustainable tourism criteria and propose a road map for the start and future of Special Interest Tourism. The primary data of the research was obtained from the field study conducted in Bozdağlar, and the secondary data was obtained from scientific sources and Izmir province tourism plans. The method of the study is \"mixed method\" based on geographical area examination, SWOT analysis and comparison. According to the findings, although Bozdağlar has rich natural and cultural attractions and opportunities, tourism services are quite lacking and threats are quite intense. In this context, current tourism in the region cannot meet most of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council's Destination Criteria (GSTC-D). As a result, activating the development potential of Special Interest Tourism in Bozdağlar will only be possible by making a regional tourism plan and applying the GSTC-D Criteria

    Potential Beneficial Effects of Apelin-13 on Testicular Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury

    TSA-2018-6719.Testicular ischemia-reperfusion (T I/R) injury leads to oxidative stress with excessive accumulation of reactive oxygen species in the tissue. This phenomenon has an important place in the pathophysiology of testicular torsion injury. In the presented study, it was aimed to reveal the prophylactic beneficial effects of apelin 13 (APE-13 ) on T I/R damage. Twenty-four male Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into four groups as sham, I/R, 10µg/kg APE-13 and 100µg/kg groups. I/R protocol and apelin 13 application doses were applied with reference to previous studies. At the end of the experiment, all rats were sacrificed and their testicular tissues were quickly removed. It was stored under appropriate conditions until biochemical analysis was performed. In the biochemical analysis of the tissues, it was determined that oxidative parameters and inflammatory cytokine levels increased and antioxidant levels decreased in the testicular tissue due to I/R. On the other hand, it was observed that these results changed significantly in the 10µg/kg APE-13 and 100µg/kg groups. Considering the presented data, it was revealed that the severity of T I/R-induced tissue damage was reduced when APE-13 was administered at doses of 10µg/kg and 100µg/kg.Atatürk Universit

    Güneş Fırtınaları Romanında Bahtin’in Temel Kavramlarının Ekoeleştirel Bir İncelemesi

    Mikhail Bakhtin is a Russian scholar who has been studied internationally in fields of literature and the humanities. Basing his theory on the principle of communication, Bakhtin formed a significant path in literary and cultural studies. Some scholars like Michael Gardiner (1993), Michael M. Bell (1994), Michael J. McDowell (1996), Timo Müller (2010) and Patrick D. Murphy (2013) propose that Bakhtin’s concepts can be appropriated to ecocriticism to make more powerful analyses of literary texts since both Bakhtinian literary criticism and ecocriticism highlight diversity, heterogeneity, agency, and interaction. In this way, Bakhtinian ecocritical theory suggests a new definition of the human subject in its relation to the physical environment and nonhuman beings. Revealing the viability of Bakhtinian critical theory with ecological concerns, this article aims to study the novel Solar Storms by Linda Hogan, a Native American female writer, through an “eco-Bakhtinian” approach to explore how nature is represented in Native American context, how the relationship between human and nonhuman worlds is depicted, how both worlds function in one another, how and why the perception of nature differs in cultural aspects, and how the concept of nature has changed over time. In doing so, this article attempts to show the interaction between culture-nature, human-nonhuman, earth-body, body-mind, traditional-modern, native-non-native, fact-fiction, story-history, self-other, individual-society, and text-reader.Mihail Bahtin, edebiyat ve beşerî bilimler alanlarında uluslararası ölçekte çalışılan bir Rus düşünür ve kuramcıdır. Kuramını iletişim ilkesine dayandıran Bahtin, edebiyat ve kültür çalışmalarında önemli bir yol çizmiştir. Bahtin’in fikirleri son yıllarda edebiyat ve kültür kuramlarının en verimli eleştirel temaları arasında yer almıştır. Michael Gardiner (1993), Michael M. Bell (1994), Michael J. McDowell (1996), Timo Müller (2010) ve Patrick D. Murphy (2013) gibi yazar ve akademisyenler, hem Bahtinci hem de ekoeleştirel kuramların çeşitliliği, heterojenliği, eyleyiciliği ve etkileşimi vurgulamasından dolayı Bahtin'in kavramlarının edebî metinlerin daha güçlü çözümlemelerini yapmak için ekoeleştiriye uygulanabileceğini öne sürmüşlerdir. Böylece Bahtinci ekoeleştiri, fiziksel çevre ve insan olmayan canlılar ile ilişkisinde insan öznesinin yeni bir tanımını ortaya koymaktadır.     Forecasting of global solar radiation: A statistical approach using simulated annealing algorithm

    In recent years, the share of renewable energy sources in current energy production has been increasing due to the depletion of fossil fuel resources, increasing energy needs and environmental concerns. Solar energy, one of the most important renewable energy sources depending on being clean, sustainable and environmentally friendly energy source. Understanding the solar radiation value is crucial for maximizing the potential of solar energy and ensuring the efficient operation of solar energy systems. In this paper, it is aimed to develop a new global solar radiation (GSR) prediction model by using simulated annealing algorithm (SAA). Modeling solar radiation data with significant variability is a challenging task that necessitates the use of nonlinear approaches. Although the SAA is widely used in engineering and natural sciences, it has not previously been used to develop a GSR prediction model. While developing the SAA forecast model for the Adana region, long-term sunshine duration and solar radiation data obtained from the Turkish General Directorate of State Meteorology were used, as well as geographical features such as latitude and longitude of the selected region. The performance and applicability of the proposed model was examined by comparing it with different GSR estimation methods developed in the literature. The primary contribution of this study lies in the introduction of an inventive model, which has been constructed for the first time in the assessment of GSR, to the current collection of literature. The produced results were statistically compared with the observed data using six separate performance and error measures. The results of all years showed that the relative percentage error (RPE) less than 11.66 %, the mean percentage error (MPE) does not exceed 12.55 %, the correlation coefficient (R2) greater than 0.98, the mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) test results appear to vary close to the value 10, the sum of squared relative error (SSRE) test results seem to approaching 0 and the t-statistic test less than 4.06 for the annual GSR. It has been observed that the developed SAA GSR forecasting model has a successful performance when compared to different forecasting models popularly used in the literature. According to the statistical error results, the estimated GSR data from the novel SAA-GSR forecast model aligns well with the measured meteorological values. Given the efficacy of the established SAA model in GSR estimation, this study is anticipated to offer valuable insights and contributions to the application of the SAA approach in other energy applications

    Unemployment hysteresis in Central and Eastern European countries during EU-membership

    This study aims to analyse the time series properties of the unemployment rates in 10 Central and Eastern European countries after joining the European Union. Three types of unit root tests were conducted: (1) linear unit root tests, namely ADF, PP, LM, and RALS-LM tests; (2) LM and RALS-LM unit root tests with two structural breaks; and (3) LM and RALS-LM unit root tests with Fourier function. The results reveal that the hysteresis hypothesis is valid for Bulgaria, Czechia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania and Slovenia, whereas the structuralist hypothesis is valid for Estonia and Poland. However, the natural rate hypothesis holds only for Slovakia

    Halkevlerinin faaliyetleri örgün eğitim dışında kalan vatandaşların eğitilmesi bakımından önem arz etmektedir. Toplumsal dönüşüm merkezleri olan Halkevleri sadece birer kültür merkezi olmanın yanında bir "Halkevi" anlayışı ile faaliyetlerini toplumun ihtiyaç duyduğu her alanda planlanmıştır. Bu bakımdan Halkevleri faaliyetlerinin toplumdaki yansımaları toplumun içinden çıkan basın hareketi ile incelenmiştir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, Türk tarihinde yaygın eğitimin başlangıcı sayılabilecek Halkevleri faaliyetlerinin incelenmesidir. Halkevlerine ait çalışmaların sadece tek bir perspektif üzerinden değil bütüncül bir şekilde karşılaştırmalı bir anlayışla incelenmesi bakımından önemlidir. Araştırma verileri betimsel nitelik taşımakla beraber nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden doküman inceleme sitemi ile elde edilmiştir. Halkevleri faaliyetlerinin içeriği arşiv kayıtlarının yanında gazete arşivi kullanılarak ele alınmıştır. Bu bakımdan karşılaştırmalı bir yapı sergilemektedir. Cumhuriyet Gazetesi e-arşivi sisteminden elde edilen haberler doküman olarak kullanılmıştır. Sistem içerisinde "Halkevleri" anahtar kelimesi ile yapılan taramalarda 1931-1952 yılları arasında 1190 haber tespit edilmiştir. Elde edilen haberler konu başlıklarına göre sınıflandırılmıştır. Buna bağlı olarak Halkevleri faaliyetlerinin ulusal basındaki yansımaları değerlendirilmiştir.The activities of the Halkevleri (People's House) are important in terms of educating citizens who are excluded from formal education. As centers of social transformation, Halkevleri were not only cultural centers but also planned their activities in every field that the society needed with the understanding of a "People's House". In this respect, the reflections of the activities of the People's Houses in the society were analyzed through the press movement that emerged from within the society. The aim of this study is to analyze the activities of the People's Houses, which can be considered as the beginning of non-formal education in Turkish history. It is important in terms of examining the activities of the People's Houses not only from a single perspective but also in a holistic manner with a comparative understanding. Although the research data is descriptive, it was obtained through document analysis system, one of the qualitative research methods. The content of the activities of the People's Houses was analyzed using archival records as well as newspaper archives. In this respect, it exhibits a comparative structure. The news obtained from Cumhuriyet Newspaper e-archive system was used as a document. In the scans made with the keyword "Halkevleri" in the system, 1190 news between the years 1931-1952 were identified. The news obtained were categorized according to their subject headings. Accordingly, the reflections of Halkevleri (People's House) activities in the national press were evaluated

    Data on the financial performance of companies on BIST Sustainability 25 Index: An Entropy-based TOPSIS approach

    In this data article, the Entropy-based TOPSIS technique is employed to assess the cash flow-based financial performance of companies. The study encompasses data from companies listed on the Borsa Istanbul (Istanbul Stock Exchange) and included in the BIST Sustainability 25 Index between 2018 and 2022. The performance metrics considered in the dataset are grouped into categories including liquidity, operational efficiency, financial structure, and profitability ratios.     Decontamination of Escherichia coli biofilm on polystrene surface by application of organic acid and thermosonication

    Bu çalışmada, gıda temas yüzeyinde gelişen Escherichia coli biyofilmlerinin organik asit ve sonikasyon muameleleri ile inaktivasyonu amaçlanmıştır. Gıda temas yüzeyi olarak polisitiren mikroplaklar kullanılmış ve bu plaklarda E. coli biyofilmleri geliştirilmiştir. E. coli biyofilmi içeren plaklar farklı inaktivasyon çözeltileri (PBS, laktik asit ve asetik asit) ile farklı sıcaklık (20, 40 ve 50oC) ve sürelerde (2 ve 5 dakika) sonikasyona maruz bırakılmıştır. E. coli biyofilm inaktivasyonu üzerine sıcaklık, süre ve inaktivasyon çözeltisinin etkisi istatistiksel olarak önemli (p<0.05) bulunmuştur. Farklı koşullardaki sonikasyon işlemi ile E. coli biyofilmi canlı hücre sayısında 0.43-6.21 log kob/mL, optik yoğunluğunda (OD600) ise 0.13-0.72 azalış meydana gelmiştir. En yüksek E. coli biyofilm inaktivasyonu 50oC'de 5 dakika organik asit ve ultrasonikasyon işlemi ile sağlanmıştır. E. coli biyofilm inaktivasyonunda canlı hücre sayımına dayalı test yöntemleri ile optik yoğunluk ölçümüne dayalı test yöntemleri arasında pozitif yönde anlamlı bir korelasyon olduğu bulunmuştur. Çoklu doğrusal regresyon analizine göre sıcaklık, süre ve çözelti gibi bağımsız değişkenler birlikte E. coli biyofilm inaktivasyon oranındaki değişimin canlı hücre sayısına dayalı verilere göre %94'ünü ve optik yoğunluk ölçümüne dayalı verilere göre ise %80'ini açıklamıştır. Sonuç olarak, inaktivasyon deneylerinde canlı hücre sayımına dayalı test yöntemleri daha güvenilir bulunmuştur. Ayrıca, gıda endüstrisi temas yüzeylerinde etkili bir sanitasyon için organik asit ve termosonikasyon muamelesi önerilmiştir.In this study, it was aimed to inactivate Escherichia coli biofilms on the food contact surface by the treatments of organic acid and sonication. Polystyrene microplates were used as food contact surfaces and E. coli biofilms were grown on these plates. Plates containing E. coli biofilm were exposed to sonication with different inactivation solutions (PBS, lactic acid and acetic acid) at different temperatures (20, 40 and 50oC) and times (2 and 5 minutes). The effects of temperature, time and inactivation solution on E. coli biofilm inactivation were found to be statistically significant (p<0.05). With the sonication treatment under different conditions, viable cell count of the E. coli biofilm was decreased by 0.43-6.21 log cfu/mL and its optical density (OD600) was decreased by 0.13-0.72. The highest E. coli biofilm inactivation was achieved by organic acid and ultrasonication at 50oC for 5 minutes. It was found that there was a significantly positive correlation between test methods based on viable cell count and optical density measurement in E. coli biofilm inactivation. According to multiple linear regression analysis, independent variables such as temperature, time and solution explained 94% and 80% of the change in E. coli biofilm inactivation based on viable cell count and optical density measurement, respectively. As a result, test methods based on live cell counting were found to be more reliable in inactivation experiments. Additionally, organic acid and thermosonication treatment have been suggested for effective sanitation of food industry contact surfaces

    The New Solar Radiation Estimation Models Using Different Weight Functions in the Moving Least Squares Approach

    In this study, moving least squares approach (MLSA) is used for solar radiation (SR) estimation in the selected region. While developing new models with the MLSA, three different weight functions which are Gaussian, cubic spline and Wendland are used. The compatibility of some modified Angstr & ouml;m-type equations were tested to estimate of monthly average daily global SR at selected region. The most suitable equation was found by comparing with the values measured and obtained from the equation. In this paper, six different statistical error analysis tests are used in order to compare the performance of new proposed models. According to the results obtained in the selected region, the weight function for which the best performance values are obtained is the cubic spline weight function

    Efficiency measurement with data envolepment analysis in fabricated metal products, machinery, electrical equipment and transportation vehicles sector: An application in BIST

    Bu çalışmada BIST Metal Eşya, Makine, Elektrikli Cihazlar ve Ulaşım Araçları sektöründe faaliyet gösteren 9 işletmenin finansal tablo verileri Veri Zarflama Analizi (VZA) ile incelenerek 2018-2022 yılları arasındaki beş yıllık dönemde ekonomik etkinliklerinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Analizlerde VZA'nın girdi yönlü CCR ve BCC modelleri kullanılmıştır. Çalışmanın örneklemini oluşturan işletmelerin 2018-2022 yılları arasındaki etkinlik sıklıkları incelendiğinde; EGEEN, FROTO ve OTKAR işletmelerinin tüm yıllarda hem CCR hem de BCC modelinde etkin olduğu görülmektedir. BFREN, TAOSO ve VESBE'nin BCC modelinde tüm yıllarda etkin olduğu görülürken CCR modelinde BFREN ve TAOSO 2020 yılında, VESBE'nin ise 2021 ve 2022 yıllarında etkin olmadığı görülmektedir. BCC modeline göre 2021 ve 2022 yıllarında sadece ARCLK firmasının etkin olmadığı tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca ARCLK firmasının hem CCR hem de BCC modelinde en az etkin firma olduğu görülmektedir. 2022 yılında işletmelerin en etkin yıllarını yaşadıkları görülmektedir. 2019 yılı için CCR modeline göre etkinlik değerleri oldukça yüksek olan BFREN, TOASO ve VESTL firmalarının etkinlik değerlerinde 2020 yılında 2019 yılına göre bir düşüş yaşanmıştır. Etkinlik değerlerinde yaşanan bu değişimin Covid-19 kaynaklı ekonomik krizden kaynaklandığı tahmin edilmektedir. CCR yöntemine göre etkin olmayan işletmelerden ARCLK ile VESTL'in EGEEN, FROTO ve OTKAR işletmelerini referans alarak girdi değerlerinde iyileştirme yapmaları gerekmektedir.In this study, Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) was used to examine the financial statement data of nine companies operating in the BIST metal goods, machinery, electrical equipment and transport vehicles sectors, with the aim of determining their economic efficiency in the five-year period between 2018 and 2022. DEA's input-oriented CCR and BCC models were used in the analyses. Looking at the activity frequencies of the companies in the study sample between 2018 and 2022, it can be seen that the companies EGEEN, FROTO and OTKAR were efficient in both CCR and BCC models in all years. While BFREN, TAOSO and VESBE are active in all years in the BCC model, it can be seen that BFREN and TAOSO are not efficient in 2020 and VESBE is not efficient in 2021 and 2022 in the CCR model. In the BCC model only ARCLK is inactive in 2021 and 2022. It can also be seen that ARCLK is the least efficient company in both the CCR and BCC models. It can be seen that the companies have their most efficient years in 2022. For the companies BFREN, TOASO and VESTL, whose efficiency values were quite high in 2019 according to the CCR model, there was a decrease in efficiency values in 2020 compared to 2019. It is estimated that this change in efficiency is due to the economic crisis caused by Covid-19. According to the CCR method, ARCLK and VESTL, which are inefficient companies, have to improve their input values by taking EGEEN, FROTO and OTKAR as a reference
