    No full text
This study investigates the characterization and antimicrobial properties of sodium alginate (SA) films enriched with probiotic microorganisms, including Bifidobacterium animalis ssp. lactis B94, Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus GG, and kefir cultures. The films were evaluated for their physicochemical, mechanical, and bioactive properties. The results showed that the addition of probiotics significantly influenced the films' thickness, moisture content, density, and water vapor permeability (WVP). Films containing a combination of kefir, B. lactis, and L. rhamnosus (SA-KLB) exhibited the highest thickness (100.00 +/- 0.02 mu m) and WVP (2.11 +/- 0.00 g mm/h m(2) kPa), while control films (SA-C) had the lowest thickness (50.00 +/- 0.00 mu m) and WVP (1.45 +/- 0.00 g mm/h m(2) kPa). The moisture content of probiotic films ranged from 20.28 +/- 3.69% to 28.81 +/- 0.61%, with SA-KLB showing the highest moisture retention. Mechanical properties, including tensile strength (TS) and elongation at break (E), were also affected by probiotic addition, with TS values ranging from 0.42 +/- 0.06 to 1.49 +/- 0.20 MPa and E values from 20.45 +/- 3.60 to 28.62 +/- 4.40%. Antimicrobial activity tests revealed that the films effectively inhibited pathogenic bacteria, with the strongest effect against Staphylococcus aureus (inhibition zones of 23.00 +/- 1.41 to 24.75 +/- 1.77 mm) and the weakest against Escherichia coli (15.50 +/- 0.71 to 19.00 +/- 1.41 mm). The viability of probiotics in the films after drying ranged from 81.79 to 90.57%, indicating good stability during the drying process. These findings suggest that probiotic-enriched SA films have potential as functional packaging materials, offering both extended shelf life and health benefits by delivering viable probiotics to consumers.Scientific Research Projects Coordination Unit of Giresun University [FEN-BAP-A-250620-60]This research has been financially supported by Scientific Research Projects Coordination Unit of Giresun University (Project No: FEN-BAP-A-250620-60)

The utilization of in-situ heteroatom doping and carbonization techniques to produce porous biochar from waste biomass sources has the potential to significantly enhance electrochemical and CO2 adsorption performance of supercapacitors. In this work, an initiative N, S-codoped biochar was prepared through carbonation and KOHactivated pyrolysis of bagasse-based polycondensate precursors, which were synthesized using sugarcane bagasse as a carbon source, 3-amino-5-methio-1,2,4-triazole as a nitrogen and sulfur source and triglycidyl isocyanurate (TGIC) as a cross-linker, for efficient CO2 capture and energy storage. Through comprehensive material characterization and testing of the electrochemical and CO2 adsorption performance of the N,S-codoped bagasse-based porous biochar (NSBPB), the results demonstrated that the mesoporeous structure and the N, Scodoping displayed a significant synergistic effect on electrochemical and CO2 adsorption properties. The optimized NSBPB-600-2 displayed a CO2 adsorption capacity of 3.76 mmol g-1, and no significant decrease in adsorption capacity was observed over consecutive ten cycles. Moreover, the NSBPB-600-2 electrode delivered a specific capacitance of 217F g-1, and the NSBPB-600-2 symmetric supercapacitor exhibited a energy density of 13 Wh & sdot;kg- 1. This approach invoving in-situ heteroatom doping of porous carbon materials using clean biomass carbon sources not only offers the advantages of simplicity, environmental friendliness and low cost, but also holds great potential for applications in CO2 capture and separation, as well as in supercapacitors.Sichuan Science and Technology Program [2023NSFSC1101]; National Natural Science Foundation of China [21978182]The authors would like to acknowledge the financial support provided by Sichuan Science and Technology Program (2023NSFSC1101) and National Natural Science Foundation of China (21978182) for this research. No full text
At studying, we searched the frequency and voltage dependency of the electrical and dielectric traits of a nano made NiO-contributed GO thin film enlarged on a p-type silicon substrate using sol-gel technique. The electrical and dielectric features of Ag/GO-NiO/p-Si were investigated by capacitance-voltage (C-V) and conductance-voltage (G/ omega-V) indications in the frequency interval of 10 kHz-1000 kHz below dark and illumination at ambient temperature. While the capacitance and series resistance (Rs) values decrease with increment of frequency and increment trend in conductance was observed with the increasement of frequency. These decrement/increment trend observed at greater frequencies are attributed to existence of interface state densities. After, the frequency dependence of dielectric constant (epsilon)', dielectric loss (epsilon ')', loss tangent (tans), ac electrical conductivity (sigma ac) and complex impedance (Z*) of Ag/GO-NiO/p-Si structures were investigated in the frequency by means of the capacitance-voltage (C-V) and conductance-voltage (G/w-V) indications. The experimental findings showed that epsilon', epsilon'' and sigma ac were strongly frequency dependent

    No full text
Surface modification by Friction Stir Processing (FSP) has recently become an increasing research area. Researchers are developing hybrid Surface Composites (SC) with excellent mechanical and tribological properties, using hybrid reinforcement particles. This study investigates the effects of the hybrid mixing ratio of ZrB2 ceramic reinforcement particles added to the material surface to improve the mechanical and tribological properties of Al5083 Base Material (BM). Grooves corresponding to a Theoretical Volume Fraction (TVF) of 15 % were cut on the surface of the material. Particles with a mixture ratio of 1 % ZrB2-14 % SiC, 3 % ZrB2-12 % SiC, 5 % ZrB2-10 % SiC, 7 % ZrB2-8 % SiC, and 9 % ZrB2-6 % SiC were added to these grooves, and hybrid SCs were produced. The process parameters used in the study were 900 rpm tool rotation speed, 20 mm/min traverse speed,- 8000 N axial load, 3.5 degrees tilt angle, and single pass. In the test and inspection results, it was determined that the hardness, wear, and tensile test results of the P2 sample with a 3 % ZrB2-12 % SiC hybrid mixing ratio exhibited ideal results compared to other hybrid SCs produced. It was determined that the addition of 5 % or more ZrB2 reinforcement particles caused agglomerations in the microstructure and negatively affected the mechanical and tribological properties. The highest hardness value was 112 HV; the lowest volume loss was 2.05 mm3; the highest tensile strength was 279.93 MPa, resulting in 47 % higher hardness, 276 % lower volume loss, and 6 % lower tensile strength compared to the BM.Gazi University Scientific Research Projects unit [FDK-2022-7684]; Gazi University Scientific Research Projects Coordination OfficeThis study was supported by the Gazi University Scientific Research Projects unit (Project no: FDK-2022-7684). Anahtar kelimeler: Çocukluk çağı travmaları, bağlanma stilleri, evlilik doyumu, yetişkin bağlanma, travmatik yaşantılarThe aim of this study is to examine the predictive effects of childhood traumatic experiences and attachment styles developed in adulthood on marital satisfaction among married individuals. The research was conducted within the framework of a quantitative approach using the relational survey model. The study population consists of married individuals residing in Osmaniye, Turkey, in 2023. The sample included 402 volunteer participants, selected through convenience and criterion sampling methods. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews and online questionnaires. The data collection tools employed in the study were the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire–Short Form (CTQ-28), the Relationship Scales Questionnaire (RSQ), and the Marital Life Scale (MLS). In data analysis, independent samples t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and hierarchical regression analysis were used. The findings revealed that childhood traumas significantly and negatively predicted marital satisfaction. Attachment styles, however, were not found to be significant predictors of marital satisfaction, nor did they function as mediators or moderators in the relationship between childhood traumas and marital satisfaction. Furthermore, it was observed that certain demographic variables such as educational level, occupation, perceived economic status, and type of marriage had a significant effect on marital satisfaction, whereas variables such as gender, age, duration of marriage, and number of children did not show a significant effect. The results indicate that childhood traumas have lasting effects on romantic relationships in adulthood, and that marital satisfaction is shaped not only by individual factors but also by developmental and contextual influences. In this regard, the findings contribute to the development of preventive psychological intervention programs that consider individuals' early life experiences, support the dissemination of attachment-based psychoeducational practices to enhance marital relationships, and offer guiding insights for future interdisciplinary research. Keywords: Childhood trauma, attachment styles, marital satisfaction, adult attachment, traumatic experience

Shotgun metagenomic composition, microbial interactions and functional insights into the uterine microbiome of postpartum dairy cows with clinical and subclinical endometritis

    No full text
Clinical endometritis (CE) is associated with bacterial pathogens while the same has not been proved about subclinical endometritis (SCE). We aimed to use shotgun metagenomic sequencing to investigate the associations between potentially unidentified pathogens and SCE. Uterine cytobrush samples from multiparous Holstein cows (n = 23) were taken at 21 days in milk (DIM) and sequenced via the Illumina shotgun platform. At 36 DIM, the cows were diagnosed as CE (n = 7), SCE (n = 7), or healthy (n = 9). We did not find differences in the alpha and beta diversity of bacteria and eukaryotes among the health groups. Relative abundance of typical pathogens i.e. Fusobacterium, Peptoniphilus, Peptostreptococcus, and Trueperella was greater in CE than healthy controls. We did not find evidence of eukaryotic or viral association in infection, yet, distinct patterns of bacterial co-occurrence were observed among pathogenic and non-pathogenic bacteria. In CE cows, Wnt/catenin pathway had lower abundance than SCE or healthy cows. Our findings support that CE is characterized by domination of pathogenic bacteria that intercorrelate, whereas SCE is not associated with bacterial colonization.Freiburg Galaxy Team: Person X and Bjoern Gruening, Bioinformatics, University of Freiburg (Germany - German Federal Ministry of Education and Research BMBF [031 A538A de.NBI-RBC]; German Federal Ministry of Education and Research BMBF [031 A538A de.NBI-RBC]; Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts Baden-Wrttemberg (MWK)The authors acknowledge the support of the Freiburg Galaxy Team: Person X and Bjoern Gruening, Bioinformatics, University of Freiburg (Germany) funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research BMBF grant 031 A538A de.NBI-RBC and the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts Baden-Wuerttemberg (MWK) within the framework of LIBIS/de.NBI Freiburg

A Review of Emerging Technologies on the Rehydration Behavior of Foodstuffs

    No full text
This research examines the intricate interplay between novel drying techniques and rehydration processes, emphasizing their influence on food quality and rehydration behavior. Advanced methods such as electromagnetic radiation (microwave and infrared), ultrasound, heat pump drying, low-pressure superheated steam, high hydrostatic pressure, pulsed electric fields, and ohmic heating were evaluated. Additive manufacturing techniques, including 3D and 4D printing, and nanotechnology's role in enhancing rehydration properties were explored. The study expressed that, methods like freeze-drying and microwave-assisted vacuum drying significantly preserved microstructural integrity and porosity, enabling higher rehydration capacities. For example, freeze-dried samples exhibited up to a 9-10 fold faster rehydration rate, compared to traditional air-dried methods. Mechanistically, porosity, capillary action, and preserved cellular structures were identified as critical drivers of improved rehydration performance. Emerging techniques such as pulsed electric field and ultrasound enhanced water diffusion and minimized structural damage, further optimizing rehydration efficiency. Insights into parameters like rehydration medium, temperature, and liquid-solid ratio were modeled to predict and enhance product reconstitution quality. The findings underscore the potential of integrating sustainable practices and advanced technologies to revolutionize food processing by reducing energy consumption, minimizing waste, and achieving superior product quality. These innovations position the study as a significant step forward in optimizing rehydration for food industry applications
