Background - Swedish sports organizations often struggle to gain financial income, due to reasons such as the 51% rule within Swedish sport, not obtaining enough financial income internally through the organization and the loss of earnings from the Covid-19 pandemic and other economic fluctuations. Therefore this study was conducted to analyze and describe how Swedish sport organizations seek financial help externally to be able to finance their organizations. Where the organizations network status was examined to see the potential external help they could benefit from and how the usage of crowdfunding could be an alternative for the organizations to gather financial help. Purpose - The purpose of this study is to analyze and describe how sports organizations finance themselves. Method - The way in which the study was performed, was through a qualitative method with an abductive approach. Through six semi structured interviews with representatives from the Swedish sports organizations the empirical data was collected. Then analyzed in relation to theories and previous research by a thematic analysis. Findings - The findings of this study suggest that Swedish sports organizations tend to prioritize their internally generated financial amounts of capital to finance their organizations through traditional financial methods such as: membership fees, sponsorship income, ticket sales, public support and in addition some organizations earned capital through player sales. Rather than reaching out to external financial investors, where crowdfunding was seen as a potential financial method to gather financial support. The Swedish sports organizations considered it to be important to engage and maintain their networks for this type of financial gathering method to be functionable
From Crisis Management to Resilience : A Narrative Analysis of the Principle ofResponsibility in MSB's Policy Documents
This thesis explores changes in governance and management within Swedish public administration, with a particular focus on the principle of responsibility in the context of crisis management. Through a narrative analysis of the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency's (MSB)policy documents, the formulation and evolution of the responsibility principle from 2014 to 2024 are examined. The results show that the responsibility principle has undergone significant changes. Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, Swedish administration was characterized by decentralization and a strong focus on municipal self-governance. However, the pandemic exposed serious flaws in this model, such as fragmentation, lack of coordination, and unclear allocation of responsibilities. The study identifies that during the pandemic and other crises, there has been an increased emphasis on collaboration and clearer allocation of responsibilities. MSB's role as a coordinating authority has become increasingly central, with a stronger focus on building resilience and effective crisis preparedness. Despite this, challenges remain, particularly in implementing a more integrated and adaptive governance model capable of effectively managing future crises. The conclusion is that effective crisis management within Swedish public administration requires a balanced integration of both centralized and decentralized governance models. Such a balanced model entails a clear, responsible national strategy that includes both formal structures and institutions as well as broader governance processes. This approach enables better handling of complex and varied crises by leveraging the advantages of both coordination and flexibility. Although societal issues have become increasingly complex and require greater expertise, the state's role remains central. This implies that a mixed model of governance is necessary to effectively address contemporary challenges by ensuring comprehensive and inclusive governance
The essay examines the role of the principal in an organization where the state’s mission seems to clash with the conditions provided to schools by the municipality as the fonder and employer. The experience is reflected in situations where teachers and parents seem to have a different understanding of the school’s mission than the principal perceives based on the curriculum and budget provided by the municipality. One question is what the principal needs to know about the knowledge of teachers in order to lead. The investigation is based on Aristotle’s concept of knowledge with phronesis as the focus, reading Fink’s description of Aristotle’s concept, and with help from Sa Cavalcante Schuback and Schön regarding understanding that transitions into action. Additionally, based on theories of leadership and the role of understanding in leadership, a perspective of myths in school is also examined, which may be an explanation for the difficult situation in which both teachers and principals find themselves
The common patterns of successful writing-instructions : A text analysis with a particular focus on speech acts and text activities
This study investigates how six writing-instructions aimed at third-year students in upper secondary school, resulting in high student performance, are designed. The aim was to identify common patterns of speech acts and text activities in the writing-instructions and to examine how clearly these communicate what is expected of students. To address this, a qualitative analysis of the six writing-instructions was conducted using tools from systemic-functional grammar: speech act and the concept of text activity. The analysis results show that the writinginstructions primarily communicate through the speech acts of statement and command. The speech act statement is used to provide information about the requirements and expectations of the task, while the speech act command structures the instructional part. The congruent use of speech acts demonstrates that all writing-instructions clearly convey their message. The framing text activity of explanation is used in all writing-instructions, providing a clear guidance, and writing frameworks, and is clarified and reinforced by the embedded text activity of description. The study results suggest that writing-instructions that clearly communicate expected content, structure, and writing frameworks correlate with higher student performance. Further research could expand this study with either a larger sample or in combination with an interview study
Since 2005, listed companies within the EU have been subject to common regulatory frameworks. With the introduction of IAS 36 paragraph 134, several countries have had to adapt to the new regulations to increase harmonization and comparability in accounting. This study investigates how two member states in the EU (Sweden and the Netherlands) adapted to the new regulations established by the IASB, which is the body that has received approval from the EU as an international standard setter.IAS 36 paragraph 134 was part of IASB's improvement projects regarding the impairments of goodwill and intangible assets with indefinable useful life. The goal of IAS 36 paragraph 134 was to increase the clarity and requirements regarding information on goodwill. The standard means that the companies are forced to provide information on impairment tests by detailing the management of goodwill in the form of disclosure requirements. Previously, companies were able to write off goodwill systematically, but after the change of IAS 36, they instead need to conduct annual impairment tests on Goodwill. The previous research has shown a reasonably weak compliance between the countries, which decreased interest in research during the present. The purpose of the study was to investigate how well Swedish and Dutch listed companies comply with the standard IAS 36 paragraph 134. The study used collected annual reports from 2022 where 40 companies were included in the survey, 20 Swedish and 20 Dutch. After the implementation of a chi-square test, the study concluded that there was no significant difference in the level of compliance between the countries. The results showed that both countries had a high level of compliance of IAS 36 paragraph 134, which can be explained by the countries' high adaptation to the new regulations. This study mentions several decisive factors to the high compliance with the standard.
This essay is based on three portrayals of situations that arise when I, as a psychologist, meet clients and colleagues with a different view of psychological well-being than I have. Where I have a humanistic approach and the people I meet have more of a scientific approach to psychological well-being. To understand and reflect on these situations, I use several theoretical concepts that describe the difficulties that arise on both a societal, relational and individual level. These theories are the order of discourse by Michel Foucault, alienation by Rahel Jaeggi, I-Thou and I-It by Martin Buber and bad faith by Jean-Paul Sartre. Foucault's concept of the order of discourse helps to show how the current discourse, in this case the scientific one, both excludes and minimizes alternative discourses, in this case the humanistic one. Jaeggi's concept of alienation shows the experience of being in a relationship but not connecting, which in turn creates an experience of estrangement and powerlessness. Buber's word pairs I-Thou and I-It highlight aspects of how humans are objectified and how this is affected by the relationship with other people and the ability to create genuine encounters. Finally, Sartre's concept of bad faith shows how one can understand the comfort of the self-deception in avoiding taking responsibility for one's life decisions and one's mental health. In the essay, I also take help from the author Janet Frame and her literary work about her time as a patient in a psychiatry ward. Her texts have helped me to show the whole person, not just the role assigned to the individual
Source-Based Writing : Students’ Approaches and Critical Aspects of Learning
This study explores upper-secondary school students’ source-based writing skills and what teachers can focus on to improve these skills. The students who participated were enrolled in university preparatory programmes at a Swedish municipal upper-secondary school. The results are based on 73 texts written by students in the subject Swedish (first-language education) and 11 interviews based on the students’ texts. Before the interviews, I went through the students’ texts and prepared questions about their use of sources. I use phenomenography to describe four different ways of using sources and variation theory to identify four critical aspects of learning this skill. To use sources in the most developed way, students need to be able to discern that: (1) acknowledging sources varies with literacy practice; (2) ideas from sources support arguments in own writing; (3) own ideas are separate from those of others; and (4) sources are compared and evaluated throughout the writing process. These critical aspects can be used to plan the teaching of source-based writing for upper-secondary school students
