Decisionmakers’ experiences of clinical IT-support for agility and resilience during and after Covid-19 : A case study on experiences and the role of clinical IT-supported decision-making within IT-reliant work processes at a university hospital

No full text
To ensure an organization's ability to survive external changes in the environment, it is imperative for organizations to achieve digital resilience through agility. Consequently with the spread of Covid-19, healthcare as an organization have been required to make constant decisions to maintain a resilience against the evolving change. To delve deeper into the following topic this study focuses on perioperative medicine and intensive care unit (PMICU) at a university hospital during and after Covid-19 to understand the decision makers experiences of agility and digital resilience with Clinical IT-Supported Decision-Making Process for their decision processes. This research applies an interpretative qualitative methodology to understand individuals experiences with deep-interviews. To ensure quality with the interviews a conceptual deductive framework was developed based on theories of knowledge management, interpunctuated socio-technical change, and process-oriented dynamic capabilities. The empirical data gathered through means of recordings are used to inductively analyze various deeper reasons and meanings for the lived experiences. To ensure nuanced perspectives this study interviews various clinical practitioners ranging from specialists to managers with various roles and responsibilities. The results show varied experiences regarding the role of clinical IT-supported decision making for agility and digital resilience due to mixed receptions with interoperability and expertise. These experiences illustrate a mix of both positive and negative distinctions with the role and interoperability, and its relevance for healthcares ability to attain a digital resilience through agile decision making. Alongside mixed receptions with Clinical IT-Supported Decision-Making Process, learning and knowledge have been perceived by the interviewees as crucial for agility, but certain knowledge are interpreted as situation dependent among some interviewees

Mer än matproduktion : Multifunktionellt jordbruk i policy och praktik

Over the course of the past century, European agriculture has transitioned from small-scale, manual farming to more mechanised, industrial practices. This development has resulted in increased productivity but also in environmental problems, such as greenhouse gas emissions, biodiversity loss, and social challenges. The policy response to the changed role of farming in the EU has been to apply a multifunctional approach to agriculture. Multifunctional agriculture (MFA) can be defined as an agriculture that is not solely focused on food production, but contributes to several different functions in the societies and ecosystems of which it is a part. Although conflicting values and goals are central challenges in agricultural policy, practice, and research in Europe, and the multifunctional approach to agriculture is dominant in EU policy, conflicts have not been studied to any large extent within the MFA research field. This doctoral thesis analyses conflicting values in relation to multifunctional agriculture. Through semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions with Swedish farmers and an analysis of policy documents at the national, sub-national and EU level, this thesis paints a broad picture of different aspects of multifunctional agriculture. The thesis contributes a visual conceptualisation of multifunctional agricultural activities to the multifunctional agriculture research field. The findings of this thesis contribute to the body of research that concludes that EU agricultural policy does not contribute enough to multifunctional agriculture. Furthermore, this thesis confirms the existing research finding that Swedish agricultural land is exploited to a larger extent than policymakers intend. There are goal conflicts between different aspects of multifunctional agriculture and it is not possible to solve them all. Practitioners and decision-makers need to decide on the goals they wish to prioritise, even if that decision comes at the expense of other ambitions. One part of the problem is that values are often not commensurable and therefore cannot easily be compared and ranked. Agricultural policy should enable farmers to choose different strategies and encourage diversity, since farmers have different interests and constraints and variable access to agricultural strategies. Such diversity would make EU agriculture better prepared for future environmental and other crises.Errata: Corrections have been made in this thesis on page 64. Behind the Seams : Unveiling Sustainability Reporting Practices in the Fast Fashion Industry

No full text
This study explores the various sustainability reporting practices of fast fashion companies. As the fast fashion industry faces increasing pressures over its environmental and social impacts, the need for transparent and accountable sustainability reporting has become of greatest importance. By using a mixed-methods approach, the research combines a systematic literature review with a thematic content analysis of sustainability reports to identify key themes and strategies in reporting practices, focusing on the strategies employed by Boohoo, H&M, Primark, Lindex, and River Island. The findings reveal valuable insights into the various sustainability reporting strategies by fast fashion companies, inter alia, illustrate their commitment to transparent practices. However, while companies demonstrate a commitment to transparency and traceability, significant variations exist in the comprehensiveness and authenticity of their disclosures. The study highlights the influence of stakeholder theory and institutional pressures on reporting practices, as well as the challenges faced by companies in achieving meaningful sustainability outcomes. Despite the limitations of the research, including a narrow focus on select brands and potential biases in reported data, the study contributes valuable insights into the effectiveness of sustainability reporting as a tool for promoting corporate responsibility in the fast fashion industry. Recommendations for improving reporting practices and enhancing stakeholder engagement are also discussed, with focus on the importance of genuine commitment to sustainability beyond mere compliance

On Conflict and Cooperation : Dimensions of Warfare during the Nordic Bronze Age

No full text
The existence of armed conflict during the Nordic Bronze Age (1800/1700 BC) is now accepted by most researchers, and different scales of conflict having been discussed in recent years ranging from interpersonal violence to open field battles with perhaps thousands of participants. However, violent conflict is still often portrayed as purely destructive social force that destroyed intercommunal ties. While the destructive nature of raiding and other forms of warfare cannot be denied, this contribution seeks to explore how such practices could also foster local and even regional cooperation. The data includes bronze weaponry and depictions of warriors in rock art. Incorporating this wealth of data, we can additionally suggest that previous models have underappreciated the prevalence of small-scale warfare practices such as raiding. Such practices may have led to a permanently shifting and changing network of conflict and cooperation which was a major contributing factor to the outward cultural homogeneity of the Nordic Bronze Age that we perceive today

Money and War : The Contribution of Numismatics and Monetary History to the Study of Conflict

No full text
The paper gives a series of examples of various aspects of the theme Money and War: Coinage debasement to finance the war, making false coins to destabilize the enemy’s economy, minting following the army, loss of the war treasury during transport, soldiers unhappy with bad coins or no salary, coins found at battlefields, coins found in soldiers graves, hoards buried by fear of war and/or not recovered by owners possibly dead during conflict. The examples are predominantly from France and Scandinavia during the Middle Age and the Early Modern Period, but there is also one from the American Civil War. These examples illustrate the importance of money for financing the war, the war-induced monetary disorders and their severe social and political consequences, the logistic problems of providing the right money at the right place in the right quantities as well as the population’s reaction to the fear of war looting and plundering. The examples draw on a wide range of evidence taken from the fields of history, archaeology and numismatics. The aim of the paper is to give an overview of possible fields of research and hopefully inspire future trans-disciplinary work

Toward transformative youth climate justice : Why youth agency is important and six critical areas for transformative youth activism, policy, and research

No full text
The involvement of youth in climate actions is increasingly recognized as critical to amore just and sustainable future. Despite progress in youth climate justice (CJ) activism, research and decision-making, gaps and challenges persist. Drawing on existing literature, first, we identify three key reasons for authorities to take youth involvement in climate actions seriously, namely (a) human rights and justice, (b) efficiency, and (c) legitimacy of policy actions. Second, we propose six critical areas for policy, research, and the youth movement to deliver transformative youth CJ: (1) closing the climate finance (i.e., adaptation and loss and damage) gap in a way that prioritizes youth-responsive activities, especially in climate impact-prone regions of the world; (2) adopting an intersectional approach to CJ that challenges homogenization of the youth CJ movement, accounts for the diverse experiences, needs and perspectives of different youth, and addresses intersecting structural forms of discrimination that particularly hamper the agency of racialized youth in the global South and North; (3) youth must recast their justice frameworks and channel their activism mode (e.g., buycott) toward challenging and resisting green extractivism, the necropolitical and ecocidal effects of which are concentrated in post-colonies and other racialized contexts; (4) knowledge co-production with youth must confront the risk of knowledge coloniality, extraction and power; (5) youth should engage in more-than-human CJ activism, recognizing the intertwined fate of youth and more-than-human nature; (6)as legitimate representatives of future generations, youth should consider claiming their space in legislative arenas to ensure the protection of future generations. The influence of popular culture in the after-school center : A qualitative study on the impact of popular culture on students' social interactions in after-school activities

No full text
The purpose of this study is to examine how popular culture affects children's social interactions in Swedish school-age educare. The study begins by describing how the increase in popular cultural expressions in children's daily lives can affect their social interactions and relationships. Previous research suggests that popular culture can be used as an inclusive resource, but can also be a factor in exclusion between children if they do not have knowledge or access to these expressions. The theoretical starting point used in this study is the perspective of situated learning and the concept of communities of practice, which clarify how social participation and learning are seen within meaningful contexts. Using a qualitative approach, semi-structured interviews have been conducted with four school-age educare educators and four children at two different schools. The analysis was conducted based on a thematic analysis. The results of the study show that popular culture plays a significant role in children's social interaction with each other. Common interests in popular cultural references and expressions can increase inclusion between children, but on the other hand can risk children being excluded if they do not share the same popular cultural interests. The leisure educators express that popular culture can function as a kind of tool for participation, but also as something that requires active educational planning. It is emphasized in the discussion that integrating popular cultural expressions and references into school-age educare is important for promoting learning and inclusion. This study highlights the need for educators and teachers to increase their understanding of children's popular cultural expressions and references, both in practice and education

Media och mänsklig värdighet : En kvantitativ och kvalitativ studie av nyhetsmediernas konstruktion av värdighet i rapporteringen om migration

No full text
