Digitaliseringens påverkan på hållbarhetsarbete
No full textThis bachelor thesis seeks to explore the convergence between sustainability and digitalization within the corporate business sector. As these two trends continue to grow and merge they change how organisations work, communicate and how they are structured. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate how the correlation between digitalization and sustainability works and how it can be useful to strengthen the organisations effort in terms of sustainability. In order to examine this we used two questions: “How is corporate sustainability work affected by digitalization”? and “How can digitalization be utilized to enhance these efforts”? To analyze this we have used a theoretical framework combined with a qualitative approach combined with interviews. The theory provides us with guidance on how to analyze how digitalization is used as a strategic resource and how the organisations can adapt to external changes and how they work to live up to regulations like the Corporate Reporting Directive. We have gathered primary data from interviews with large listed companies from Nasdaq. This sample allows us to compare our results from different sectors such as banking and more traditional industrial companies. The results say that digitalization is a necessity for reliable and efficient sustainability work, through automation and more efficient processes makes the data collection and the traceability both easier and dependable. We have also found that it comes with certain difficulties, mostly in terms of implementation challenges like systematical integration and changes in the culture within the organisation.
When interruptions become commonplace : Users’ experiences of digital notifications and the impact of design
No full textSyftet med studien är att undersöka hur användare upplever och hanterar digitala notifikationer i vardagen med fokus på produktivitet, stress och social påverkan, samt deras designupplevelser. Semistrukturerade intervjuer med fyra vuxna smartphoneanvändare analyserades med reflexiv tematisk analys. Resultaten visar att notifikationer ofta upplevs som direkta avbrott som påverkar fokus och skapar stress, men att påverkan varierar med individuella strategier och kontext. Indirekta effekter genom andras användning fragmenterar även gemensam uppmärksamhet. Deltagarnas relation präglas av ambivalens och misstro, där notifikationer upplevs både som nödvändiga och som belastande. Genom ett sociomateriellt perspektiv (Orlikowski, 2007) visar studien att notifikationer är en del av vardagspraktiker där teknik, sociala normer och strukturer samverkar, vilket pekar mot behov av designlösningar som tar hänsyn till både individuella och kollektiva effekter.This study explores how users experience and manage digital notifications in daily life, focusing on productivity, stress, social interaction, and design perceptions. Findings indicate that notifications are often perceived as direct interruptions affecting focus and generating stress, with impacts varying by individual strategies and context. Indirect effects from others’ notifications also fragment collective attention. Participants’ relationships are marked by ambivalence and mistrust, seeing notifications as both necessary and burdensome. Using a sociomaterial perspective (Orlikowski, 2007), the study shows that notifications are part of everyday practices shaped by technology, social norms, and structures, highlighting the need for design approaches that address both individual and collective consequences
Hur bidrar FDI till ekonomisk tillväxt i Afrika? : En empirisk studie om sambandet mellan FDI och tillväxt
No full textThis thesis investigates the relationship between Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) andeconomic growth in 53 African countries between the years 2000- 2022. Using a fixedeffects panel data regression model, the study analyzes how FDI and control variables suchas political stability, trade, population growth, health, unemployment, and economicfreedom affect GDP per capita growth. The results show that while FDI displays a positive coefficient, it is not statisticallysignificant in the fully specified model. This suggests that the growth-enhancing effect ofFDI is highly dependent on contextual and institutional factors. Trade shows a positive andstatistically significant effect on growth, consistent with classical trade theory, whileunemployment has a negative and statistically significant association, in line with Okun’sLaw Okun (1962). Surprisingly, economic freedom shows a negative and significanteffect, which challenges traditional liberalization perspectives. Other variables such aspolitical stability, health, and population growth are not statistically significant. The study concludes that while FDI can contribute to economic growth, its impact is notautomatic. Strong institutions, improved infrastructure, and human capital development arekey to transforming FDI into sustainable economic progress
Physiologus inflytande på medeltida och tidigmoderna kartor
No full textThis study: Physiologus influence on medieval to early modern maps, aims to show the influence of thePhysiologus and the Physiologus driven bestiary tradition on medieval mappamundi to early modernmaps in Europe. Physiologus was one of medieval Europe's most popular texts where the Christianmoral code was discussed using animals as a mnemonic devise. The animals were given a number ofnatures, or attributes, which was then interpreted according to Christian teaching. The bestiary culturestretched over many centuries and affected the society it was surrounded by. The method used in thisstudy is iconological interpretation, pictures from the bestiary tradition are studied together with animalfigures in maps in an effort to see if it is possible to identify the animals in maps as belonging to thePhysiologus tradition. They are identified by their attributes, narratives and interpretation. Four animalshave been singled out, the siren, the elephant, the aspidoceleon (whale) and finally the serra (sawfish).All of them have been identified from the studied maps successfully, however, due to the morphingability of the serrafish, that particular identification is quite difficult. The study also aims to bridge aninterdisciplinary gap which has resulted in an inability to understand the importance of Physiologus as arelevant source from late antiquity until the beginning of early modern times
The defence in the feed : A qualitative study on the Armed Forces' communication spread on social media with insight from civilians
No full textThis study examines how the Swedish Armed Forces use digital media platforms as a mediatechnical and visual communication tools, and how this communication is perceived by civilian audiences. The study adopts a media technical perspective and explores how platform-specific affordances, design logics and user cultures shape the representation and interpretation of military identity, presence and societal role in social media environments. The empirical material consists of a combination of discourse analysis, visual analysis, and semi-structured interview with civilian respondents. The analysis focuses on the Swedish Armed Forces communication on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, which are compared in relation to how each platform enables distinct communicative expressions and organizational identities. The results show that the Swedish Armed Forces strategically adapt their communication to the mediatechincal conditions of each platform. TikTok is used to create proximity, humanization and everyday relatability through informal and humorous expressions. Instagram functions as a balanced platform where representation, inclusion and recruitment are combined with a controlled visual aesthetic. YouTube is primarily a tool to communicate professionalism, authority and legitimacy through longer and more formal formats. The interviews reveal that civilian audiences both identify with and negotiate these messages, with the boundary between entertainment, seriousness, and the normalization of military presence emerging as a key theme. The study contributes to a deeper understanding of how mediatechnology and platform logic shape government communication, and how military authorities construct their identity within a contemporary digital media landscape.
Susan and Barbie: Linguistic constructions of gender in the television series Scrubs
No full textThis study investigates how gender is linguistically constructed in the television series Scrubs, focusing on the characters JD and Elliot. Drawing on Butler’s theory of performativity and Harré and van Langenhove’s positioning theory, the analysis examines dialogue from the first season and aims to reveal how explicitly gendered terms, implicitly gendered language, recurring forms of address, and references to normative behavior function as discursive strategies of identity construction. Through both quantitative and qualitative methods, the study shows how JD and Elliot are portrayed, revealing how sitcom dialogue both reinforces and challenges traditional gender norms. By situating the analysis within the broader context of popular culture, the essay highlights how scripted television dialogue reflects and reinforces cultural ideas about masculinity and femininity, while also offering audiences moments of resistance of gender norms. The findings underscore the pedagogical potential of using popular culture texts to promote critical media literacy, encouraging students to question everyday language practices and recognize the social structures they uphold
