A Qualitative Study On Interprofessional Collaboration In Psychosis Clinics Within Outpatient Care

    No full text
The aim of this study is to explore how interprofessional teams in outpatient psychosis clinics establish collaboration in practice, and to what extent professional roles influence communication within the team. Although collaboration is essential in psychiatric care, there is a lack of in-depth research on how it is concretely shaped in outpatient contexts. This study addresses this knowledge gap by examining everyday collaboration processes within clinical teams. Data were collected through five qualitative focus group interviews involving various professional groups. The analysis was conducted using thematic analysis with an inductive approach, later complemented by the theory of Organizing Professionalism as an interpretive framework. The study found that professionals contribute to interprofessional collaboration in practice by bridging differences, negotiating responsibilities, and creating spaces for joint work. Communication was shown to be more person-dependent than profession-dependent, with trust, humour, and openness emerging as key factors. The findings also indicate that numerical representation and formal responsibility affect influence within the team. The study concludes that effective collaboration in outpatient psychiatric care does not arise automatically but is actively constructed by team members

Heteronormative silences and queer resistance in queer people’s experiences of eldercare and home

    No full text
The meaning of home for queer people has been widely empirically explored as well as theorized. Not least has the home been important for the older generations of queer people, who lived in times where their sexualities and gender identities have been criminalized and pathologized and where there have been few public meeting places historically. However, having care needs may blur the lines between private and public and complicate notions of integrity in one’s home. This article is based on qualitative interviews and aims to explore experiences of queer people in a Swedish context who have eldercare services—either people who have home-care-services or who are living in care homes. A queer theoretical framework and reflexive thematic analysis was used. The results illustrate how there is a silence around gender and sexuality in the everyday life within eldercare. This in turn is caused by material conditions where downsizing and effectivization of the eldercare have created pressed working conditions that leave little room for small talk between staff and recipients of care. Norms on age, gender, and sexuality with notions on older people as asexual (as well as cisgender and straight) may play into this silence as well. The boundaries between the private (home) and the public (eldercare) become blurred. This in turn conditions which intimacy practices that become im/possible. Simultaneously, there is a presence of queer resistance as well as of longings for other (queer) futures

Headhunting as Ritualised Violence in Prehistory and the Recent Past

    No full text
Why does headhunting as a cultural phenomenon occur so often in both the ethnographic and archaeological records? There was certainly no direct transmission of this peculiar cultural trait between societies divided by thousands of years and separated across several continents. Yet, intriguing parallels exist between very diverse groups; between societies as remote from each other as the nineteenth and early twentieth century Nagas of northern India, and the Iron Age populations of southern France. In this paper, I consider some themes relating to headhunting that emerge from a study of ethnographic records in relation to beliefs and ideas about the body, and examine the role of headhunting in promoting, exacerbating and conceptualising inter-societal violence

We, the Expelled : Historical experiences among Polish Jews that came to Sweden 1967-1972

    No full text
We, the Expelled is a study of historical experiences communicated by the Polish Jews who came to Sweden as refugees in 1967–1972 due to the antisemitic campaign in Poland that began in 1967. The campaign reached its crescendo with the regime critical demonstrations in March 1968 and led to the last major Polish Jewish emigration. Grounded on a hermeneutically based oral history, the dissertation presents an analysis of historical experiences communicated in published biographies as well as in life stories and recorded dialogues, which have been collected in collaboration with the Nordic Museum and their digital collection platform Minnen.se. The dissertation aims to contribute with a deeper and more nuanced understanding of Swedish Polish Jewish history in relation to two central historical events: the Holocaust and the antisemitic campaign. From the analyzed experiences, a chronology of experiences emerges with these two events as organizing and meaning making breaking points. The first and most significant breaking point is the Holocaust. The second is the antisemitic campaign, which resulted in the flight to Sweden. The two breaking points demarcate a time before, a time in between and a time after in the chronology of experience. The analysis of the chronology of experience is based on the narratives that dominate the historical cultural situation in which the historical narration takes place. The Swedish Polish Jews who are the focus of the dissertation communicate historical experiences not only of the Holocaust and the antisemitic campaign, but also of the Soviet Union under Stalin, life in Poland during the Cold War, structural antisemitism and of Sweden during the heyday of the welfare state. These events are central in the historical culture. At the same time, their experiences deviate from the dominant narratives. In their depiction of the Holocaust, they tell of survival in the Soviet Union in contrast to the dominant narrative about the Holocaust that was established during what has been called the Era of the Witness. During the time in between, in the Polish People’s Republic, they communicate a more multifaceted picture than the dominant narratives, the presence of structural antisemitism plays a significant role. In the concluding part about life in Sweden, however, the historical experiences follow the dominant narrative of the welfare state. By displaying this group’s narration of the past, the study contributes with a Swedish-Polish-Jewish perspective on some of the most central historical experiences of European modernity

    No full text

    No full text

Art in Transit : Temporary Exhibitions with Foreign Contemporary Art in Sweden 1945–1969

    No full text
Under efterkrigstiden började nya utställningsformer introduceras. This thesis examines 410 exhibitions of foreign contemporary art at public art institutions in Stockholm and Gothenburg between 1945 and 1969. By mapping the artists’ attributed nationality, the artistic media displayed and the organisers of the exhibitions, a broad picture emerges of exhibitions of foreign contemporary art in Sweden during this period.  After the Second World War, temporary exhibitions became a central part of public art institutions in Stockholm and Gothenburg, and the proportion of exhibitions displaying foreign contemporary art increased. Most of these exhibitions presented works from the Nordic countries. After that, the exhibitions featured works mainly from Western European countries, such as France, Great Britain and Italy. Exhibitions showing Latin American works were also displayed throughout this period, and over time, an increasing number of exhibitions from the United States began appearing. The most frequently used artistic media were painting and graphic prints, and the dominant exhibition format was nationally organised group exhibitions, with solo exhibitions remaining rare until the opening of the Moderna Museet in Stockholm in 1958.  The majority of exhibitions were organised by actors outside the art institutions, such as galleries, art education organisations, collectors, cultural institutes and chambers of commerce. As a result, art institutions were able to offer a wide range of exhibitions despite having limited resources for organising them. These various external actors had a significant influence on the design of the exhibitions. Art education organisations and foreign cultural institutes showed a wide range of artistic styles. Galleries and collectors focused on more narrow artistic presentations, often accompanied by more exclusive catalogues. Sales were common in all types of exhibitions, with works in different price ranges. Art and commercially produced utility objects could also be presented in the same exhibition where, without direct sales, trade promotion could still be encouraged. These commercial and profit-driven elements show that art exhibitions played a role in the restoration of international trade at the time and that they could function as an extension of the art market, but also that the art education ideals of the time regarding the accessibility of art often included consumption. National group exhibitions accounted for a large proportion of exhibitions until the end of the 1960s. This format aimed to present a representative picture of a country’s art scene and can be traced back to the World’s Fair exhibitions of the 19th century. In the post-war period, new forms of exhibition began to be introduced. At the Venice Biennale in 1948, solo exhibitions were held featuring avant-garde artists from the interwar period, and this emphasis on pioneering artists was also evident at the Moderna Museet, which, from its opening in 1958, completely abandoned national group exhibitions in favour of solo exhibitions and stylistically profiled exhibitions. Even in the national group exhibitions, an adaptation to this change was noticeable during the 1960s. The exhibition format was retained, but the national representatives in the international avant-garde began to be highlighted

PFAS-förorening i kustnära ekosystem : En studie av sediment, vatten och bentiska organismer i Östersjön

    No full text
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) have been produced and used since the 1950s. The chemical structure of PFAS makes the substances both lipophilic and hydrophilic. These properties have contributed to the use of PFAS in a number of industrial and commercial applications. Wastewater treatment plants are a collection point for contaminated water, and currently, there are no methods to completely purify the water from PFAS. Therefore, wastewater treatment plants constitute a direct source of PFAS emissions into the environment. The purpose of this study was to investigate the occurrence and concentration of perfluorosulfonates (PFSA), perfluorocarboxylates (PFCA), and their precursors. This was done by sampling sediment, water, and the organisms Monoporeia affinis, Macoma balthica, and Mytilus edulis in close proximity to the wastewater treatment plants Himmerfjärdsverket and Przedsiębiorstwo Wodociągów, both of which have their outlets in the Baltic Sea. The results of the study showed significant correlations between the concentrations of PFCA in sediment and PFSA in M. balthica with the distance to the wastewater treatment plant Himmerfjärden. No further significant correlations were found, indicating that the persistence, spread potential, and presence of diffuse sources of PFAS affect the concentrations in environmental matrices and organisms. The results also showed a very high concentration of PFAS in M. affinis, which differed from the other organisms. To put the results in a larger context, the study discussed how PFAS can spread from primary consumers to the remaining parts of the food web

"Dirty local, green global" : A qualitative study on professional local journalism in a transitioning Swedish north

    No full text
The aim of this study has been to investigate how the so-called green transition in the Swedish north shapes professional norms of local journalism in Norrbotten and Västerbotten. The study departs from theories on professional journalism, local journalism and journalistic roles. Particular attention is dedicated to the proximity dilemma and how the journalists maintain a professional distance to their audiences. The research is conducted through qualitative semistructured interviews with nine journalists working in Norrbotten and Västerbotten. The findings indicate that traditional professional values such as objectivity and neutrality, enacted through the watchdog and disseminator journalistic roles, are challenged by the so-called green transition due to the scope and complexity of it. The journalists’ professional roles serve as an armour against outside impact, and even if the journalists have personal opinions on the so-called green transition, they mostly do not consider themselves affected by them in their reporting. Furthermore, the local-global dimension of the transition indicates a re-negotiation of local community borders, which creates a dilemma of distance rather than proximity. This challenges professional local journalism, as it becomes more difficult to define the audience that local journalism is supposed to serve. The result of this study demonstrates that inherent aspects of professional journalism, such as autonomy and an ethics of public service, are worth examining in relation to societal changes. Moreover, it indicates a possible renegotiation of professional journalism, considering the challenges brought by the so-called green transition
