Smartphone morality : A mixed-method study of how young adults judge their own and other people’s digital media reliance

    No full text
Escalating smartphone reliance is a debated issue, especially when it comes to the digital wellbeing of young people. Hence, this article addresses smartphone use as a morally contested activity among young adults. We first analyse the existence of moral dissonance pertaining to one’s own smartphone use – whether one uses the device according to internalised norms or not. Second, we explore moral distancing – to what extent morally problematic smartphone use is ascribed to others rather than to oneself. Combining survey results with focus-group interviews from Sweden, the study shows that moral distancing is less pronounced among young adults than in the overall population. It also shows that young people’s capacity to domesticate digital media in a morally congruent way plays into the social reproduction of gender and class. While the smartphone is socially normalised, young adults, especially women, report a great deal of moral reflexivity and distress in relation to the device.Measuring Mediatization, Stage 2Geomedia Pane

Media and Memory : Perspectives of two journalists and the role of three media organizations in post-genocide Rwanda

    No full text

Concluding Remarks : Reflections on Research into Conflict Archaeology

    No full text
This chapter offers a comprehensive reflection on the field of Conflict Archaeology, focusing on its development, challenges, and future directions. It addresses dominating paradigms within research on conflict-related material, such as the historical reluctance to engage with the topic due to war fatigue and antimilitarism following the World Wars, and highlights how archaeological findings have reshaped our understanding of past conflicts. By examining case studies from Scandinavia, particularly fortification research in Sweden, the chapter explores the growing recognition of Conflict Archaeology as well as the need for conflict research relating to gender. Looking forward, the chapter underscores the importance of applying Conflict Archaeology to contemporary societal challenges, including climate change and ongoing conflicts. Through these insights, it advocates for a more nuanced and socially engaged perspective in conflict research

    No full text
As artificial intelligence (AI) becomes more prevalent in various industries, the accounting sector is undergoing significant changes, particularly in small accounting firms where resources and adaptability are often limited. The purpose of this study is to investigate how AI has impacted the role of accounting consultants within small accounting firms. This investigation will examine changes in tasks, working methods and skill requirements. In this study a qualitative research method was employed, whereby semi-structured interviews were conducted with eight respondents. The study adopted a deductive approach, employing established theoretical frameworks to analyse the empirical material collected. The study is based on the Diffusion of innovations theory (DOI) and role theory, which highlight how technological changes affect the design of work roles, work tasks and competency requirements. The study demonstrates that AI has transformed the working routines of accounting consultants by automating manual tasks such as data entry and invoice processing. The focus of work has shifted towards review, analysis and consulting, which has raised the qualification level of the profession. Consequently, AI has become a driving force for a transformation in professional roles, with consultants adopting a more analytical and consultative approach, as opposed to administrative tasks

    No full text
” So, time is like a kind of currency for educare staff members” - A qualitative study of the importance of time in conflict management in school age educare.   School age educare is a part of the school’s operations where students from different social and cultural backgrounds meet. In the school age educare social arena, situations occur daily when students don’t get along, which leads to conflicts between the students. Conflicts are and will always be a part of the students’ everyday lives.   In our study, we have chosen to investigate how the educare staff members’ conditions for creating and maintaining good relationships have for impact on conflict work. We have focused on whether the time conditions exist to be able to work with the strategies required in a conflict and in what way a good relationship can promote conflict management.   We have chosen to do a qualitative interview study to answer our research questions. Our findings have been analyzed from a sociocultural perspective and curriculum theory to provide answers to our research questions concerning conflict management in the school-age-educated.  Our results show that school-age-educated staff members are aware of the cause of conflicts and that a good relationship between students and staff is important to be able to give the students the tools they need to be able to resolve conflicts by themselves. The results show that school-ageeducated staff members feel that there are not enough time conditions to be able to handle a conflict in an ideal way.

    No full text
This essay examines two Swedish legal cases related to Nazism, with the aim to investigate if there are influences of Satanism and The Sinister Tradition from groups such as, The Order of Nine Angles and Atomwaffe Division. Currently, various media reports that young people are drawn into online groups connected to Nazism and Satanism. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether this has developed in Sweden and to what extent. The method used i this study is qualitative analysis of ideas and ideological content, as well as visual analysis of the language of images and semiotics. I have used several theories, including understanding solitary perpetrators, ritual and power, and analysis of propaganda image, to gain the best possible insight into the theme. The symbols present in the empirical material, along with what emerges through investigation and interrogation, indicate influences of this. The analysis reveals interesting aspects of how influences from Nazi German occultism persist, and how Satanism and The Sinister Tradition have been adopted and influenced one of the legal cases being studied

Responsible Production Practices to Minimize Food Waste in Aviation Catering : A Case Study at Newrest Arlanda

    No full text
This study investigates how production practices within aviation catering generate food waste and explores how responsible production can be strengthened within the regulatory and operational constraints of the sector. Focusing on Newrest Arlanda as a single qualitative case study, the research addresses two central questions: (RQ1) How do current production practices and routines contribute to food waste? and (RQ2) How can responsible production practices be improved to minimise food waste? Data were collected through eight semi-structured interviews, including two face-to-face conversations and six written-response interviews across management, supervisory, and frontline roles. The findings reveal that food waste is structurally produced rather than the result of individual behaviour. Key drivers include forecasting buffers, rigid portioning and tray standards, departmental fragmentation across hot kitchen, cold kitchen, assembly, and dispatch, and aviation-specific food-safety regulations that classify most returned or compromised food as Category 1 waste. Data limitations further hinder organisational learning, as waste records function largely as compliance tools rather than mechanisms for improvement. These findings align with global food-service research showing that operational uncertainty, risk aversion, and regulatory pressure intensify overproduction and limit opportunities for reuse or redistribution. In response to RQ2, participants identified realistic opportunities to enhance responsible production. These include redesigning menus to be more modular, improving forecasting logic, strengthening communication between departments, and fostering leaner flows with clearer feedback loops. Staff also emphasised the need for better engagement, training, and recognition to build ownership of waste-reduction initiatives. At an institutional level, participants highlighted the importance of collaboration with airlines, airport authorities, and regulators to re-examine safety margins, contractual specifications, and opportunities for circular-economy solutions. Overall, the study proposes that meaningful waste reduction requires both internal operational improvements and broader institutional cooperation. It contributes to the limited literature on airline catering waste by integrating institutional theory and lean thinking to explain why waste persists and how responsibility can be embedded earlier in production design

Förbättrad handledning, större framgång : Hässelby-Vällingby stadsdelsförvaltnings handledning av Stockholmjobbare

    No full text
The study aims to examine which measures the Hässelby Vällingby district administration can implement to strengthen motivation within municipal workplaces to receive Stockholm job participants. The study has also reviewed the effects of the initiative Enhanced Guidance within Stockholm Jobs on the district administration so far, focusing on implemented measures and achieved outcomes in strengthening supervisory roles within its municipal workplaces. In this study, a qualitative method has been used to collect data. The empirical material consists of nine semi-structured interviews with individuals employed at Jobbtorg Nordväst, Hässelby-Vällingby cityadministration, and various department heads and employees of its municipal operations. The informants narratives in this study have been linked to cultural-ethnic sensitivity theory, and thematic analysis as well as the stakeholder evaluation model have been applied to enable a grounded analysis of the perspectives from the informants. The study's results show that the initiative Enhanced Guidance of Stockholmjobbare has been positive so far. The administrative burden for the operations has decreased, and the appointment of a head supervisor responsible for the improved introduction, training, and guidance of Stockholmjobbare during internship and base employment has contributed with positive effects in strengthening the municipal operations' motivation in Stockholmjobb. Despite these advances, several challenges remain, such as unclear role distribution between Jobbtorg and the head supervisor, staff turnover within the Stockholmjobb team, certain operations’ continued low willingness to receive Stockholmjobbare, Stockholmjobbare’s difficulties in adapting to workplace culture, the need for a more practical and culturally sensitive supervisor training, lack of public recognition and financial incentives for operations and supervisors, as well as insufficient knowledge about the work differentiation of Stockholmjobbare compared to other staff at the workplace. The study’s results indicate that the city administration should continue to support the role of the head supervisor and municipal operations through administrative assistance. Recommendations to the Hässelby-Vällingby city administration are to clarify the role distribution between the head supervisor and Jobbtorg, establish a sustainable Stockholmjobb team, refine supervisor training with practical knowledge, continue the dialogue with the city commissioners and the SFI operations, and consider providing public recognition to committed municipal workplaces, Stockholmjobbare who have moved on to self-sufficiency, as well as financial incentives for workplace mentors.

When design blends in : A study of how subtle design principles is noticed byusers in Minecraft

    No full text
Uppsatsen undersöker hur subtila designelement enligt principerna inom Calm technologypåverkar användarupplevelsen i Minecraft. The essay investigates how subtle design elements according to the principles of Calmtechnology affect the user experience in Minecraft. The focus is on analyzing sound, HUD(Heads-Up Display) and interface, as well as how these elements interact with each otherand the user's peripheral and central attention to create a good user experience. The study was conducted using a qualitative method, where six participants were observedwhile playing Minecraft. Participants were later interviewed to gain a better understandingof their experience with the design elements. The results show that the sound in the gameworks both as an atmosphere creator, but also provides the player with importantinformation by signaling the presence of enemies or changes in the environment. HUDelements such as health and hunger gauges are only attended to when needed, reducingcognitive load. The interface enables a smooth interaction between the player and the gameby minimizing interruptions in the game and supporting the user's independence. The study confirms that design elements that follow Calm technology principles cancontribute to creating balanced and sustainable digital environments and experiences. Bydirecting the player's attention between the periphery and the center, these elements canenhance the user experience without having to disrupt the immersion
