Subfamily evolution analysis using nuclear and chloroplast data from the same reads
No full textThe chloroplast (cp) genome is a widely used tool for exploring plant evolutionary relationships, yet its effectiveness in fully resolving these relationships remains uncertain. Integrating cp genome data with nuclear DNA information offers a more comprehensive view but often requires separate datasets. In response, we employed the same raw read sequencing data to construct cp genome-based trees and nuclear DNA phylogenetic trees using Read2Tree, a cost-efficient method for extracting conserved nuclear gene sequences from raw read data, focusing on the Aurantioideae subfamily, which includes Citrus and its relatives. The resulting nuclear DNA trees were consistent with existing nuclear evolutionary relationships derived from high-throughput sequencing, but diverged from cp genome-based trees. To elucidate the underlying complex evolutionary processes causing these discordances, we implemented an integrative workflow that utilized multiple alignments of each gene generated by Read2Tree, in conjunction with other phylogenomic methods. Our analysis revealed that incomplete lineage sorting predominantly drives these discordances, while introgression and ancient introgression also contribute to topological discrepancies within certain clades. This study underscores the cost-effectiveness of using the same raw sequencing data for both cp and nuclear DNA analyses in understanding plant evolutionary relationships.論文(Article)[Notice]

Ocean thermal energy conversion net power maximization for the optimization of plate heat exchanger geometry
No full textOcean Thermal Energy Conversion is a steady source of renewable energy that uses the natural temperature gradient within the ocean but requires large and expensive heat exchangers, considerably contributing to the overall cost. Thus, this study focuses on finding optimum herringbone plate heat exchangers geometry leading to the highest net power output to heat transfer area ratio (). A method to assess and maximize is developed, applied to a heat exchanger geometry from the literature, before being used to find optimum geometries , which resulted in a 33.8% increase in compared with the geometry used as reference, at chevron angles of 48.7° and 30°, mean channel spacing of 3.7 and 1.5 mm, corrugation pitches of 15 and 6.0 mm, and width to length ratios of 0.6 and 1 for the evaporator and condenser, respectively. The effect of each parameter is also analyzed showing a high impact of evaporator mean channel spacing and corrugation pitch and identified possible geometries for further studies. A sensitivity analysis revealed a design gross power with, granted a sufficient pipe diameter, negligible effect on optimum geometries, while the heat source temperature difference yielded two possible optimum for the condenser and a potential single one for the evaporator.論文(Article)[Notice]

Participation of Private Schools in the National High School Baseball Championship
Full text link高校野球において私立高等学校の躍進は目覚ましい。2024年8月に開催された全国高等学校野球選手権大会（夏の甲子園大会）に出場した49校の7割超（37校）が私立であり、3回戦以降に進んだ公立校は1校のみであった。また、平成以降における夏の甲子園大会優勝校の9割超が私立であることなどから、夏の甲子園大会における私立の優勢は明らかである。高校野球における私立優勢の状況は一般的と考えられているものの、地域限定的に検証がなされているだけで、夏の甲子園大会のような全国規模での大会では検証されていない。そこで、本研究の目的は、夏の甲子園大会の過去の全大会における49地区から勝ち抜いてきた代表校は私立と公立のいずれの出場が多いのか、私立と公立の出場率はどのように変化してきたのか、を明らかにすることであった。研究対象は、1978年から2024年までの夏の甲子園大会の全46大会に代表校を輩出した49地区が基本単位であり、49地区からの代表校が分析対象となった。私立出場率は各地区から選出された私立学校を46大会中の割合で算出した。公立出場率も同様であった。夏の甲子園大会における私立出場率は1978年の40.8％から1979年に最低の36.7％を記録しその後は一貫して上昇、2008年に85.7％で最高となり、その後は70～80％台で高止まりしていた。地区別での検討では、私立出場率の最高は西東京の97.8％であり、最低は徳島の0％であった。46大会中の私立出場率と2024年の夏の甲子園予選に各地区で出場した私立学校数に有意な正の相関関係が認められた。46大会を前期と後期に分けると、前期の私立出場率と公立出場率には差はなく、後期の私立出場率は72.6％で公立の27.4％より有意に高率であった。以上の結果から、夏の甲子園大会における私立出場率は2001年前後以降に公立より明らかに高くなり、49地区の中での差は0％から97.8％と極めて大きいこと、また私立学校数が多いと私立が夏の甲子園大会に代表と選ばれる可能性が高いこと、が示された。今後も研究を続け、高校野球における私立優勢の状況を確認し、その公平性や公正性を検証していく必要があると考えている。論文(Article)本論文は「九州地区国立大学教育系・文系研究論文集」Vol.11,No.2に査読を経て受理された。journal articl
How is the Governance of the OCT different from that of other Professional Self-Regulatory Bodies in Ontario?
Full text linkOCTガバナンス改革の基礎となったGSI報告書に対し，OTFは2019年に意見書を公表し，そ の内容の多くを批判した。本稿ではOTFが他の専門職的自己規制団体との比較の観点からGSI報告書 を批判したことに注目し，そうした諸団体のガバナンスのあり様と OCT のそれとを比較検討した。結 果として，他の専門職的自己規制団体の多くが，専門家委員は専門家会員による互選制度を採っており， また評議会における過半数を専門家委員が占めるなど，GSI報告書において提示されているガバナンス 改革案及びそれを反映させた現行 OCT 法の規定とは大きく異なることが分かった。つまり，政府の専 門職的自己規制団体への対応は，教職に対してのみ特異な形態を採っているということになる。論文(Article)departmental bulletin pape

A Report on Enhancing English Discourse Competence in Elementary School：Students A Focus on “Small Talk”
