Análisis del impacto de la financiación y del coste del capital sobre el valor de los proyectos de energía renovable

Javier Rojo SuárezEl objetivo de la Tesis Doctoral es analizar de forma amplia y exhaustiva la problemática
de la valoración de compañías y proyectos cuya finalidad principal es la generación de energía
a través de fuentes renovables, con especial foco en la importancia e impacto que tiene la
determinación del coste del capital en dicho proceso de valoración.
En mi actividad profesional fuera del ámbito académico he tenido ocasión de estar
implicado en un periodo de más de 15 años en múltiples proyectos de diversa índole sobre
empresas y proyectos de energía renovable: valoraciones, elaboración de modelos financieros
y planes de negocio, revisión de modelos financieros, análisis de test de impairment, procesos
de asignación del precio de compra (Purchase Price Allocation) o asesoramiento en procesos
de financiación y refinanciación. En todo este periodo he podido observar como el desarrollo
del sector de las energías renovables, particularmente en España, ha pasado por diferentes fases
y se ha transformado completamente, como veremos en este trabajo de investigación, pasando
de ser una actividad dependiente de las subvenciones a ser un sector económicamente rentable
con un peso muy significativo en el sistema eléctrico español y no menor en la economía.
Por otro lado, conforme el sector crecía y se hacía más complejo, he podido ver cómo
la práctica de valoración en el mismo, así como el análisis de las palancas de valor del sector
presentaba problemas específicos a los que la literatura tradicional sobre valoración de
empresas (Brealey & Myers, 1998; Copeland et al., 1995; Damodaran, 2002; Rosenbaum &
Pearl, 2009) no siempre daba una respuesta plenamente satisfactoria. Es aquí donde surge la
idea de la temática de esta Tesis Doctoral que pretende abordar los aspectos específicos más
importantes sobre el análisis y valoración del sector de las energías renovables y darles una
respuesta específica, analizando en detalle su naturaleza y tratando de combinar la teoría general
de valoración de empresas con algunos enfoques novedosos orientados específicamente al
sector objeto del presente trabajo
Disfunciones en los pagos a cuenta del IRPF
Este trabajo repasa algunas de las disfunciones que se han detectado a lo largo de los años en los mecanismos PAYE (pay as you earn), a partir de sus cuatro características: son pagos anticipados de la futura obligación principal, son pagos que competen a sujeto distinto del obligado principal; son pagos autónomos y, por último, son pagos recuperables
Proyecto de innovación educativa basada en simulación y juego serio de habilidades estratégicas para fomentar la resiliencia ante desafíos y desastres naturales
La memoria corresponde al Proyecto de Innovación Educativa PIE24-087 PLAYxTRATEGIAPLAYxTRATEGIA es un proyecto de innovación educativa que combina simulaciones, inteligencia artificial generativa y juegos serios para fomentar habilidades estratégicas y valores de resiliencia ante desafíos y desastres naturales, en línea con la Agenda 2030. Se ha implementado en asignaturas de Dirección Estratégica en los grados de ADE y Turismo de la Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (URJC) y en el máster de la Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), con la colaboración del CSIC.
El objetivo principal ha sido potenciar la participación activa del estudiantado mediante metodologías activas, como el Extreme Event Game, integradas con tecnologías de IA, promoviendo así competencias blandas y pensamiento crítico. La experiencia ha alcanzado a más de 100 estudiantes, con alta satisfacción y evidencias de mejora en resiliencia y habilidades transversales.
El proyecto ha generado materiales docentes reutilizables y ha abierto líneas de investigación y transferencia, incluyendo contribuciones a congresos y publicaciones académicas. Sus resultados muestran la efectividad del aprendizaje inmersivo y el potencial transformador de la IA en educación superior
Influence of hybrid modification on functional properties of a commercial bio-titanium alloy Ti6Al4V
Although Ti6Al4V is widely used, its surface still needs improvement for medical applications. Here alloy was modified by a two-step process: laser treatment followed by micro-arc oxidation (MAO). This aimed to create a rough surface enriched with bioelements such as sodium, phosphorus, and zinc. SEM analysis revealed a complex but uneven surface, suggesting good potential for further hybrid surface development. Laser treatment improved the alloy’s stability and corrosion resistance. Wettability tests confirmed full hydrophilicity, a key factor in cell response. Notably, the single- and double-modified samples without nZnO showed the best biological performance, likely due to their high hydrophilicity
Coinheritance of polymorphic alleles of PIEZO1, G6PD and HBB enhances protection against malaria
Malaria has exerted potent selective pressure on the human genome over millennia and has been a significant force in shaping human evolution. We have determined in 424 individuals living in malaria-hyperendemic areas in Ghana and in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the genotypes at the loci PIEZO1, G6PD, HBB, and PKLR. By qPCR we have also estimated P. falciparum parasitemia in all these subjects. We found that 41% of individuals tested had one protective variant, 20.5% two variants, 6.4% three variants, and 0.7% four variants. We have confirmed that Pz_E756del, G6pd A-, and HbS are associated with lower parasite density. The highest allele frequency was that of Pz_E756del, approaching 0.2, and we found that it is in linkage disequilibrium with Pz_E750Q. While overall malaria prevalence did not differ significantly among the groups, non-pregnant individuals with multiple protective alleles had lower rates of high-density parasitaemia, suggesting an additive effect of these variants against severe malaria infection, while pregnancy showed different allele protection profile. The high frequency of individuals carrying two or more protective polymorphisms might have implications for malaria transmission and parasite reservoir maintenance. Thus, the significance of additive or possibly synergistic effects of multiple protective genes co-existing in the same person deserves further investigation
Media framing of inequality of opportunities in education during the pandemic: analysis of the Spanish online media agenda
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the confinement of the population, education went from its usual face-to-face model to an online one. Different research points out how this situation has aggravated previous inequalities in education. On the other hand, during confinement, media consumption grew significantly. In this way, citizens use the media to inform themselves and form their public opinion. Thus, this research seeks to analyse how Spanish digital news addresses this link between inequality of opportunities in education and the pandemic. For this purpose, the six most-read cybermedia were selected, and all the journalistic texts that related to both concepts were analysed for a year (March 1, 2020–February 28, 2021). The population is composed of 2,727 journalistic stories, and we work with a stratified sample (n = 958) according to the content production per quarter and for each of the selected media. The results show how the journalistic accounts analyzed tend to link inequality of educational opportunities with income inequality and with class and age gaps. Despite this, the level of deepening in coverage does not allow progress on possible solutions that help mitigate this social problem aggravated by the pandemic, although it is higher than when othertypes of inequalities are addresse
Assessing Laryngeal Neuromotor Activity from Phonation
Neurodegenerative motor disorders affect the neuromuscular system challenging daily life and normal activity. Parkinson's Disease (PD) is among the most prevalent ones, with a large impact and rising prevalence rates. Speech is most affected by PD as far as phonatory and articulatory performance is concerned. Neuromotor activity (NMA) alterations have an impact on larynx muscles responsible for vocal fold adduction and abduction, hampering phonation stability and regularity. The main muscular articulators involved in phonation control are the cricothyroid (tensor) and thyroarytenoid (relaxer) systems, regulated by two distinct direct neuromotor pathways, activated by the precentral gyrus laryngeal control areas. These articulations control the , directly responsible for regular vocal fold vibration. An indirect estimation of the muscular tension produced by inverse filtering may split into two independent channels, assumed to be the tensor and relaxer neuromotor pathways such as the differential neuromotor activity (DNMA). The amplitude distributions of both DNMA channels allow comparing phonations from PD-affected persons (PDPs) and age-matched healthy control participants (HCPs) with respect to a set of reference mid-age normative participants (RSPs). The comparisons are carried out by Jensen-Shannon distributions of PDP and HCP phonations with respect to those of RSPs. A dataset of 96 phonation samples from participants balanced by gender is used to train a set of decision tree classifiers (DTCs) to distinguish PDP from HCP phonation. The best results from 10-fold cross-validation offered accumulated mismatches of 0.09 and 0.1292 for male and female subsets. The sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of the classification results when separating PDP from HCP phonatios were 93.33%, 88.23%, and 90.63% (male PDP versus HCP) and 92.86%, 83.33%, and 87.50% (female PDP versus HCP), providing a stratification of PDPs and HCPs by objective disease grading from explainable AI (XAI) methods

Open-source ROS-based simulation for verification of FPGA robotics applications
FPGAs are increasingly incorporated in many high-end robotics applications, often involving computer vision and motor control. However, functional verification of FPGA designs is labor-intensive, time-consuming, and consequently expensive. Moreover, validation of complex systems, such as robots, poses even further challenges because neither the external interactions can be easily modeled with traditional testbenches nor the robot’s response can be adequately observed and ascertained. This work presents a new methodology that validates the robot’s behavior in a realistic simulated environment before transferring the design to the physical robot and the onboard FPGA. This methodology allows integral, fast, and flexible debugging cycles of robotics applications by integrating the functional simulation of the processing unit (FPGA) with the simulation of the robot, its environment, and their mutual interconnections. The Verilator simulation tool is used for fast Verilog/SystemVerilog verification and simulation. ROS, the standard robotics middleware, and Gazebo 3D robotics simulator are used for realistic robot simulation, including a robust physics engine. We have implemented several open-source software extensions to interconnect the Verilog circuit with the simulated ROS sensors and actuators. This methodology’s utility and correctness have been assessed by developing a complete proof-of-concept FPGA-based robotics application in which a commercial robot follows a colored object using its onboard camera and differential drive motors.
