Film and the Portal: The Experimental Animation of Leonardo Carrano
No full textIn the context of international artistic animation, Leonardo Carrano's work represents an emblematic case study for reflecting on the contemporary practices of abstract animation and the convergence between artisanal and computerized techniques.
Starting from his training as an abstract painter, Carrano interprets the nature of representation – in its different forms and languages – linking it to the native form of engraving: an opaque body, simultaneously both hard and malleable, inviolable and metamorphous, mute and synaesthetic. The artist ‘sculpts’ different forms and artistic supports (from acids to silicon blocks, from canvas to film, to electronic and digital pixels, up to the current VR experiments), tracing the archetypal foundation of the image in the imprint. The cinematographic frame and the frame of the digital image are, in fact, the kinetic correlative of the painting canvas and the engraving plate. Film becomes a sort of alchemical portal for Carrano: an animistic space where any figurative and aesthetic form appears and is revealed according to a configuration in which his work method surprisingly resembles that of an artisan and alchemist

con riferimento alla normativa in materia di transizione ecologica e tutela dell’ambiente.
Si tratta di un principio giuridico? Afferisce al diritto dell’ambiente? Il
legislatore e le amministrazioni sono tenuti al suo rispetto nella produzione e
attuazione di regole giuridiche? Sebbene l’esame della normativa vigente sembri
prospettarne la qualificazione come principio giuridico espresso settoriale, ma
difficilmente applicabile nell’attuazione delle politiche ambientali, nel contributo
saranno esposti taluni elementi che renderebbero adattabile lo stesso anche nella
materia ambientale.Positive law is increasingly influenced by the concept of technological neutrality,
including in relation to regulations on ecological transition and environmental protection.
Is this a principle of law? Does it pertain to environmental law? Are legislators
and administrations required to comply with it in the creation and implementation of
legal rules? While an analysis of the current legislation suggests its classification as an
expressed sectoral legal principle, albeit one that is difficult to apply in the implementation
of environmental policies, this contribution will present certain elements that
could make it adaptable to the environmental field as well
Ahead of the “5Ws” model: The Art of Letters (1674) as a communication handbook
No full textEmanuele Tesauro’s treatise on The Art of Letters (1674) can be considered an underestimates modern manual of communication as it deals with epistolary techniques and informative narrative patterns, in both private and public interactions. The definition of narration as a communicative process founded on eight “circumstances” or questions causes the scholar to probe the rhetorical framework of the so called “5Ws” theory, as it became popular in the first half of the twentieth century thanks to Harold Lasswell in reference to coeval propaganda techniques. Assuming that Tesauro cannot be considered a precursor of contemporary structural models of information flow, nonetheless his work can provide a situated analysis of the necessary elements constructing reliable messages in terms of clarity, completeness and informative reliability ahead the rise of mass communication. The analysis of The Art of Letters emphasizes the author’s attention upon the principles of effective communication pursued by contemporary “gazetteers” at the time of the “printing revolution in early modern Europe”, in line with a rhetorical legacy inspiring effective communication and profitable linguistic exchanges, starting from the Aristotelian legacy and its semantic and communicative track also probed by Umberto Eco and Roland Barthes

No full textThe article “From the People-Subject to the Antagonistic Subject” by Dario Gentili reconstructs the trajectory ofItalian Marxism through three decisive moments: Gramsci’s humanist historicism, Galvano Della Volpe’s scientific materialism, and Mario Tronti’s operaismo turn. Gentili examines how Gramsci’s interpretation, consolidated by Togliatti, embedded Marxism in the Italian idealist tradition by promoting the people as the political subject. Della Volpe breaks from this by advocating a scientific-materialist reading of Marx, free from Hegelian mediation. Tronti radicalizes this move by centering theory on the working class as an antagonistic subject, opposing both the concept of “people” and the logic of synthesis. The modern factory becomes the privileged site of class conflict and the production of workers’ knowledge. With the decline of Fordism, Tronti revises his theory, exposing the limits of operaismo and traditional revolutionary politics. Gentili argues that the true legacy of this tradition lies in affirming antagonism as irreconcilable separation, rather than conciliatory synthesis
Assessing the impact of essential service locations on social hardship: Evidence from Rome
No full textThis study investigates the impact of the proximity and accessibility of essential services on social hardship in urban environments, using Rome as a case study. Employing spatial regression analysis on micro-level data, we analyze the relationship between essential services, including healthcare, education, and public transport, and
social hardship, measured through the Socio-occupational Distress Index. The results reveal a nuanced relationship between service proximity and social hardship. Specifically, while the proximity of day clinics significantly reduces social hardship both in the local area and adjacent neighborhoods, hospitals and secondary
schools exhibit limited effects when not paired with accessible public transport. Notably, the integration of public transport enhances the positive influence of healthcare and education services on well-being. These findings highlight the importance of tailored proximity strategies in urban policy, emphasizing the role of integrated mobility solutions to optimize service distribution and reduce social hardship. Future research should explore the dynamic interplay between service models, socio-economic factors, and sustainable urban planning
Train platforming problem from the viewpoint of passenger flow management
No full textThis paper addresses the problem of train platforming problem (TPP) from the viewpoint of passenger management. Currently, the train platforming decision and the passenger management decision are done separately. However, as the train platforming decision can have a significant influence on the path that each group of passengers takes in the station area; hence, the passenger flow in the station should be taken to account when making a platforming decision. In this study, this problem is defined as the Train Platforming and Passenger Management Problem (TPPMP). We propose modelling the TPPMP using a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) formulation. Our case study result suggests that the passenger flow in the station can be improved significantly when trains are allowed to be reassigned to different platforms
