Keldysh Lattice Boltzmann Approach to Quantum Nanofluidics
We present a mathematical framework to include quantum interfacial interactions, provided by Keldysh nonequilibrium quantum transport formalism, bottom-up coupled to a nanoscale lattice Boltzmann method. As an applicative scenario, we simulate a two-dimensional water flow between two parallel solid plates hosting electrons and phonons in the solid bottom wall. The corresponding tool may prove useful for the computational design of quantum-engineered nanofluidic devices, showing its capability to explore the effects of the interfacial quantum transport phenomena at scales of experimental relevance

An artificial neural network experiment on the prediction of the unemployment rate
This paper proposes an advanced Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) methodology with a Genetic test in order to estimate unemployment forecasting in 23 high-tech and most-developed countries over the period 1998–2016. The main findings reveal that the methodology adopted ensures an excellent accuracy of unemployment forecasting for the selected countries, allowing the analysis of the contributions of each input to unemployment estimation as well. A significant role is exerted by GDP, labor productivity, population growth, and Artificial Intelligence innovation, while inflation assumes only a secondary role. A minor contribution is also observed in Foreign Direct Investments and government size. Therefore, economic growth based on innovation in Artificial Intelligence with explicit effects on productivity, under adequate population growth, seems to drive the unemployment rate
Archeologia partecipata e comunità in un territorio montano del Lazio
A partire dal 2020 l’Università degli Studi Roma Tre ha avviato il Monti Lucretili Landscape Project, progetto di ricerca rivolto alla ricostruzione diacronica del paesaggio nell’area dei Monti Lucretili, un piccolo distretto territoriale del Lazio. Nell’ambito di questo progetto, il gruppo di ricerca si è avvicinato ai temi dell’Archeologia pubblica, instaurando un dialogo diretto con le comunità locali che vivono ancora oggi questi luoghi. Le comunità locali sono state coinvolte a più livelli attraverso diverse iniziative, tra cui laboratori partecipati, forme di archeotrekking, ma anche ricostruendo alcuni simboli identitari. Questo contributo vuole presentare la metodologia applicata finora nell’ambito del progetto MoLuLaP, illustrando le attività condivise proposte alle comunità locali e i processi partecipativi finalizzati alla conoscenza del patrimonio culturale e alla valorizzazione del territorio.
Since 2020, the Rome Tre University has been carrying out the research named Monti Lucretili Landscape Project, which focuses on the diachronic reconstruction of the landscape in the Monti Lucretili area, a Latium territory located in the north-eastern surroundings of Rome. One of the activities planned for the project is related to Public Archaeology. Local communities have been involved on multiple levels through various initiatives, including participatory workshops, archeotrekking, and the reconstruction of identity symbols. On the Impact of Microbeamformers in 3-D High Frame Rate Ultrasound Imaging: A Simulation Study
Background and objective: three-dimensional ultrasound imaging is based on two-dimensional (2-D) arrays controlled by application-specific integrated circuits, which implement the so-called microbeamformer (μB) to reduce the channel count. μBs are designed for line-by-line scan sequences based on focused beams (FBs), providing low frame rates. On the other hand, high frame rate (HFR) imaging techniques using defocused beams are increasingly attractive for reconstructing detailed tissue and blood motion information. Although an increasing number of researchers works with μBs integrated into 2-D probes, there is limited literature on the influence of the μB on image quality in HFR imaging applications. Methods: This simulation work evaluates the μB impact on multi-plane HFR transthoracic echocardiography by considering a μB connected to sub-arrays of different sizes (from 2×2 to 8×8 elements). Scan sequences based on the transmission of FBs, focused wide beams (FWB), and planar diverging waves (PDW) were tested. B-mode images were reconstructed and compared to the ideal case (no μB) to assess the image resolution and contrast loss due to the μB. Results: Compared to the ideal case, the μB presence can yield resolution and contrast deterioration up to 17.5% and -26 dB, respectively. Such a deterioration corresponds to the transmission of widest PDW, and can be partially recovered through the synthetic transmit beams technique. Conclusion and significance: A μB designed for FB applications can be used for HFR imaging, although with impaired imaging quality. Guidelines are provided to achieve a suitable trade-off among image quality, μB size, channel number and frame rate

“Z” Anatomical Needle Cut Leads Ejaculation (ZANCLE): Unilateral incision for bladder neck obstruction with ejaculation-sparing intent: A single-surgeon experience
This study aimed to evaluate functional outcomes and anterograde ejaculation rates in patients undergoing monopolar, unilateral transurethral incision of the prostate (TUIP) with “Z” shaped incision with ejaculatory sphincter sparing for primary bladder neck obstruction (PBNO) in a case series performed by a single surgeon. Between December 2018 and July 2023, data from patients who underwent monopolar, unilateral TUIP were prospectively collected. Patients with a prostate volume of less than 30 mL were included. Functional outcomes, including maximum flow rate (Qmax, mL/s), post-void residual volume (PVR, mL), International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), and IPSS Quality of Life (IPSS QoL) score, were assessed preoperatively and at 1, 6, and 12 months postoperatively. A total of 106 patients met the inclusion criteria, with a median age of 42 years (range: 37–57) and a median prostate volume of 27 mL (range: 20–29). The median hospital stay was 1 day, and the median catheterization time was 3 days. At 1-month follow-up, the mean Qmax increased from 10.2 ± 2.5 mL/s to 22.8 ± 3.9 mL/s, while the mean IPSS score and IPSS QoL score decreased from 16 ± 2.7 to 6.9 ± 1.5 and from 4.3 ± 0.9 to 1.9 ± 1.6, respectively (p < 0.001). The mean PVR volume decreased from 125.5 ± 16.1 mL to 27.7 ± 7.3 mL (p < 0.001). Uroflowmetry results remained statistically significant at 12 months of follow-up (each p < 0.001). Anterograde ejaculation was preserved in all cases. Unilateral monopolar TUIP confirms to be a feasible and safe procedure for the treatment of BNO in young and sexually active patients
