Incarcerated Motherhoodand the Right to Education: A Pedagogical Scoping Review.

«Phoenix. A New Kind of ‘Rebirth’ for Women and Children Living in Conditions of
Marginalization», esplora la condizione delle madri detenute attraverso una lente pedagogica e intersezionale, con l’obiettivo di ridefinire i servizi educativi e sociali destinati
a donne e bambini in situazioni di marginalità. Dalla revisione della letteratura,
adottando una metodologia rigorosa e multidisciplinare, sono stati individuate 85 studi
internazionali di interesse. La successiva analisi tematica ha fatto emergere sette nuclei
concettuali comuni agli studi: lo stigma sociale e istituzionale, le narrazioni e le rappresentazioni, il razzismo sistemico e la prospettiva intersezionale, la salute mentale ed il
benessere, le forme di agency e dis-empowerment, la maternità dentre e fuori dal carcere,
le politiche penitenziarie. Quanto emerso documenta alcune criticità comuni ai diversi
contesti oggetto di studio della letteratura analizzata: la maternità si configura come spazio
ambivalente, in cui le donne negoziano la propria identità tra controllo istituzionale
e pratiche di resistenza, all’interno di un sistema detentivo poco attento alla dimensione
di genere e al ruolo genitoriale delle donne.The paper, the result of a scoping review conducted within the framework of the PRIN
«Phoenix. A New Kind of ‘Rebirth’ for Women and Children Living in Conditions of
Marginalization», explores the condition of incarcerated mothers through a pedagogical
and intersectional lens, with the aim of redefining educational and social services for
women and children living in conditions of marginalization. Drawing on a rigorous
and multidisciplinary methodology, the literature review identified 85 relevant international
studies. The subsequent thematic analysis revealed seven core conceptual areas shared across the studies: social and institutional stigma; narratives and representations;
systemic racism and intersectional perspectives; mental health and well-being; forms of
agency and disempowerment; motherhood inside and outside prison; and prison policies.
The findings highlight recurring critical issues across the various contexts examined:
motherhood in prison emerges as an ambivalent space in which women negotiate their
identities between institutional control and practices of resistance, within a penal system
that remains largely inattentive to gender dynamics and the parental role of women

Observation of the decays B + → Σ c ( 2455 ) + + Ξ ̄ c − and B 0 → Σ c ( 2455 ) 0 Ξ ̄ c 0
We report the first observation of the two-body baryonic decays B+ → Σc(2455)++ ̄Ξc− and B0 → Σc(2455)0 ̄Ξ0c with significances of 7.3σ and 6.2σ, respectively, including statistical and systematic uncertainties. The branching fractions are measured to be B(B+ → Σc(2455)++ ̄Ξ−c) =(5.74 ± 1.11 ± 0.42+2.47−1.53)× 10−4 and B(B0 → Σc(2455)0 ̄Ξ0c) = (4.83 ± 1.12 ± 0.37+0.72−0.60) × 10−4. The first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively, while the third ones arise from the absolute branching fractions of ̄Ξ−c or ̄Ξ0c decays. The data samples used for this analysis have integrated luminosities of 711 fb−1 and 365 fb−1, and were collected at the Υ(4S) resonance by the Belle and Belle II detectors operating at the KEKB and SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy e+e− colliders, respectively
Self-image matters: Examining individual differences in resistance to loss framing messages
In response to the growing prevalence of overweight and obesity, public service advertisements (PSAs) promoting healthy eating have been placed throughout consumers’ online retail experiences. Some of these advertisements highlight the benefits of healthy diets (gain framing), while others warn against the negative consequences of unhealthy eating (loss framing). Understanding consumer resistance to PSAs, particularly psychological reactance, has become increasingly important due to shifts in how people access information. In an era when content platform algorithms personalize information exposure, health content continues to appear only if consumers actively engage with it. Yet consumer reactance, which often leads to information avoidance, can substantially reduce continued exposure. Through three online experiments, we found that loss framing messages are more likely to elicit greater psychological reactance compared to gain framing, particularly among individuals with a lower promotion focus trait or higher concern for face. This increased reactance results in more negative attitudes toward PSAs and further reduces willingness to engage with the information provider. This research offers practical insights for public health communicators and online food retailers on the effective placement of PSAs
Individual, collective and contextual dimensions of sustainable lifestyle change in daily life contexts: an integrated perspective
This paper aims to develop a conceptual and theoretical perspective on sustainable lifestyle change according to a multidisciplinary approach. In particular, we discuss the interplay between three orders of factors that, according to the literature and to our conceptual model, are relevant in shaping sustainable lifestyles and lifestyle change in people daily life contexts, such as their living neighbourhoods. The three orders of factors are the following: (1) Individual level factors (as typically present and discussed in the environmental psychology literature; e.g., attitudes, values, beliefs, intentions, emotions, connection to nature, etc.); (2) Collective level factors (as typically present and discussed in the social psychology and sociology literature; e.g., social capital, social norms, social and place identity, sense of community, place attachment, energy memories & energy cultures); (3) Contextual factors (as typically present and discussed in the environmental science and economic literature; e.g., regulations, technology, infrastructures, economic resources, etc.). For each of these three levels, we will present and discuss some classical and recent literature findings, and we will provide a summary of the current state of the art knowledge about sustainable lifestyle adoption in neighbourhoods’ contexts
Some Remarks on the Lexicon of Erasure between Antiquity and Middle Ages
Abstract: Writing, erasing, rewriting. In the ancient and medieval world, the reuse of writing media was a constant habit; this is testified to not only by direct sources (wooden and wax tablets, opisthographic papyri, palimpsest scrolls) but also by the lexicon of literary and documentary texts. This contribution, without any ambition to be exhaustive, discusses some of these references (from Plutarch to Geoffrey Chaucer, via Cicero and the chronicles of the Abbey of Saint Gall) specifically related to ‘erasure’, aiming to identify recurring themes, similarities, and differences across the time period from Antiquity to the Middle Ages
Effect of vegetation on microplastic retention and dynamics in transitional river environments for the conservation of aquatic ecosystems
Plastic pollution in the aquatic environment is one of the most worrying environmental problems. The presence of plastics in rivers, lakes and oceans adversely affects the health of aquatic fauna and humans. The scientific community is evaluating the use of Natural Based Solution as a mitigation of the problem and recent studies have investigated the possible use of marine and riparian vegetation as collection points for plastic debris. Less studied is the contribution of river vegetation.This thesis investigates experimentally the effects of vegetation on plastic retention in rivers and the dynamics in transitional environments, i.e. the estuaries, through laboratory experiments. The first part of the thesis focuses on the dynamics in estuaries, experimentally reproduced through gravity currents generated with the lock-release technique. Despite the wide interest in study, there is a lack of literature regarding the study of the influence of vegetation on the dynamics of gravity currents, especially concerning the impact on velocity field and turbulence. For this reason, we have chosen to simulate the vegetation starting with the basic configuration, a single cylinder mounted perpendicularly on the bottom. Measurements of the velocity field are carried out with the technique of Particle Image Velocimetry, in the condition of the refractive index match. An innovative visualization technique is applied to identified the turbulent structures present in gravity currents, both in undisturbed configuration and with the cylinder,providing results comparable with existing literature. A statistical approach based on multiple repetitions of the experiments is applied to study the influence of an emergent cylinder on the ensemble velocity field, on the Reynolds stresses and the terms of the turbulent kinetic energy balance equation of a gravity current, before and after impact. The obstacle significantly alters TKE redistribution, with increased pressure diffusion suppressing turbulent diffusion as the current is approaching it. This leads to a reduction of turbulence within the current's inner layers. Measurements of the density field are obtained by adopting a light attenuation technique to investigate if a different submerged and flow blockage ratios alters the anatomy, propagation and mixing of gravity currents. The results show that presence of vegetation amplifies the upstream current height and diluition downstream the obstacle. The entrainment parameter remains unaffected by different ratio of submergence. The energy budget shows an increasing in mixing process in the presence of an obstacle. These effects are greater with increasing height (i.e. reduction in the submergence ratio) and diameter (i.e. reduction in flow blockage ratio). The second part of the thesis aims to quantify the ability of river vegetation in trapping plastic waste, a topic still little studied despite the fundamental contribution of rivers in the transport and diffusion of these pollutants. Laboratory experiments on real plant samples have shown how river vegetation efficiently retains large and medium-sized debris. In addition, an increase in the complexity of the plant structure and a greater density of the area occupied by vegetation, allows a good trapping even of small debris. This work advances understanding of the role of vegetation in managing plastic pollution and the hydrodynamic processes in transitional aquatic environments, offering practical insights into eco-engineering applications
Knowledge spillovers through high-skilled migration network: Evidence from OECD countries
We investigate the role of international high-skilled migrants in diffusing innovation from origin to destination countries by assessing their impact on the production of knowledge in host countries. Since better innovation performances can be mechanically correlated with a larger presence of high-skilled immigrants, we propose a new identification strategy to account for migrants’ self-selection into the migration network and sort out potential endogeneity bias. Our results, tested on a panel of 20 OECD countries (1987-2016), show that: i) high-skilled migration magnifies the effect of internal knowledge in improving national innovation performances (while middle or low-skilled migration flows have no statistically significant effect); ii) knowledge spillovers are stronger if origin and destination countries assign similar share of their public R&D budget across the same technological fields; iii) the contribution of high-skilled migrants is most valuable when host countries are relatively lagging behind in active research and innovation policies
