The Difficulty in Numerical Computation Impacts Motor Decisions in a Stop‐Signal Task
The proper interpretation of environmental information is necessary for effective decision-making. The resulting cognitive burden may affect the entire process if interpretation is not instantaneous. In this study, we investigated how numerical distance (ND), a measure of cognitive demand in numerical comparisons, influences movement initiation and inhibition. To this end, 32 participants completed a novel numerical comparison stop-signal task (NC-SST), in which the cognitive demand of each trial was manipulated by varying the ND between pairs of numbers presented in both Go and Stop signals. Participants were required to initiate or stop a movement if the number was higher or smaller than the one indicated as reference. Results showed that larger NDs (i.e., easier comparisons) facilitated faster and more accurate responses during movement initiation and enhanced stopping performance. Using a generalized drift-diffusion model, we found that drift rates increased with Go ND and were modulated by the spatial location of numerical stimuli, consistent with a left-to-right space number association. A generalized linear mixed-effects model further revealed that Go process parameters, particularly the drift rate, strongly predicted successful stopping and interacted with Stop ND and stop-signal delay (SSD). These findings demonstrate that greater cognitive difficulty impairs both movement initiation and inhibition, and that motor decisions result from the integration of cognitive information onto perceptual features, extending the classical race model framework

In this fourth volume of the editorial series Custodi Consapevoli della Legalità, six chapters are published, the result of research carried out by graduates of our university and focused on issues of legality. In particular, this volume brings together contributions that relate to two different areas of the project, social and cultural heritage, although, due to their interdisciplinary nature, they also engage with themes and questions connected to other areas. This fourth volume seeks to highlight the talent of outstanding graduates whose work has deserved publication, thereby underscoring the importance of fostering awareness, beginning with these authors themselves, of the need to safeguard and protect shared forms of heritage through the tools offered by legality

Queer Identifications, Activism and Desires in Skam Italia
SKAM Italia (2018–) proposes an articulated reflection upon media, devices and the production of gendered subjects, visually representing their social and cultural positions. The series highlights the role of affective and emotional bonding, along with erotic desire, as key to the production of identification and subjectivities among teens. Addressing topics such as sex-positivity and the coming-out narrative, SKAM Italia contributes to the national debates on toxic masculinity and gendered violence against women and LGBTQIA+ people. Through an intersectional approach to transfeminism, masculinity studies and queer theory, this chapter will address how the series intertwines popular narratives with a didactic approach and LGBTQIA+ activism to address the construction of teen identities and bonding in contemporary Italy
